I am almost 6 weeks out, all of my original pain is gone, which I am so grateful for. However, the stiffness, shin, splints, incision, pain in knee pain from learning how to walk differently again are killing me.
Very useful thanks. Since I can't drive I can't get to the physio. I live alone and have been reliant on your videos and have been making good progress
I appreciate your series. After discharge from home health I missed having guided therapy. So working your exercises replaces that, thank you. My biggest challenge at 11 weeks is that after 2 months of protecting the injured side all the tendons, ligaments and muscles in my hips and back are super tight. A video with stretches to loosen these would be helpful. With protections no longer in place, of course.
Thanks guys! I’m a 35 yr IT VETERAN and have rehabbed THA folks in acute, inpt, op, HH as far as adherence to precautions while utilizing AD’s for ADL’s etc. and functional strength, endurance etc.. Now after years of trying not to have one and resultant mm imbalance 2’ pain related compensatory gait patterns, at 67 and RTHR, it’s a whole ‘nother ball game. Thank you for these. I think it is important that we do have these progressive ex’s demonstrated by two healthy guys who know how to move accurately and can demonstrate these things correctly for us. Thank you.
Thank for these informative videos. You explain and demonstrate everything really well. I followed the advise in your first video and now that I'm on week 4 post surgery, I'll get started on these.
Just had a total hip replacement 3 1/2 weeks ago and progressing very well with my original exercises. I am looking forward to starting your exercises. I’ll begin them tomorrow morning. I love the presentation, especially the ad lib comments….cracked me up. 😂 Great job guys….and excellent exercises for me to continue my rehab. 👍🏼
Great content, my left hip was replaced yesterday and I start Monday with pt aimed at my hip replacement. I will reusing these exercises til I am cleared to drive again, Marc
This is twice now that they've given an exercise that I've been told explicitly NOT to do. The straight leg raises were forbidden without question. In another video, they gave an exercise that was safe for anterior, and physical therapy here said not to do that one for anterior. Are these guys outside the US, or what? I can't go to physical therapy. I'm not sure what to do now.
I'd like to ask a question ? 6-weeks ago I had a total left hip replacement, Anterior approach, my question is Why do you say "if you had anterior" Don't do a standing kick back or Hip Extension, I'm not sure what the proper name is, While standing, balance on one leg and move your other leg in a backward direction, I'm just curious because my physical therapist gave me that exercise to do on my 5th week after surgery?
You guys are so right about walking with a lean I totally ditched my cane to fast I thought it was slowing me down but now I see that it balances me.. thanks
How about a series for those of us who are young and very fit? I could walk fine at day 17. At 5 weeks I was already doing all of these very easily. I have to add 10lbs of ankle weight to make leg raises challenging, etc. Is it just a matter of adding resistance to these same exercises, or are there other types that can be done?
I think the exercise for younger patients are still the same like on the video, the difference only that young patients will recover faster than elderly or old adults, so if you are able to do these exercises with no problem at all and you're following the precautions, you should be alright and are free to continue to the next exercise video, ignoring the recovery time. If not, then take it easy and keep watch on your progress for every week.
Hi, Atul here am 60 year old today from India. I had to undergo my right hip replacement on 11th October 2022, but still feel pain in my right thigh muscles, crotch region, inner thigh muscles and walk with a distinct gait. Extremely painful when any particular muscle "tweaks" while walking. Will I ever be able to walk straight? What is recommended or is it already too late? Anxiously awaiting your recommendations and suggestions...
How about exercises for total hip replacement but other hip needs replaced still, leg length is inch off, bad hip being longer leg.. please help hard to recover new one n not cause more damage or pain to bad hip..
Hi guys. I had anterior THR 4 weeks ago. I will have the 2nd one done in Aug.. My gait was great the 2nd week after surgery but now my left hip ( nonoperative) is giving me more and more grief and it is causing me to limp 🤦♀️. Suggestions? I have 8 weeks to go before I fix the left.
My anterior hip replacement is scheduled for September. I’m a side sleeper. I sleep on my left side and I sling my right leg (the bad side) over my left leg to sleep. I won’t be able to do that. I can’t fall asleep on my back. If I have a wedge abduction cushion strapped on, how does one get up to go to the bathroom at night. I’m nervous.
I have a question, forgive me if this was covered somewhere and I missed it. I have had one hip done, with the other scheduled for October. Can I still use stationary bike and treadmill or wait till after having the 2nd operation?
After THR, posterior, I was progressing, very slow, but steady in PT. I was up to 1/4 mile per day by week 5, quads and gluts very weak. Still on walker. My question is: I was progressing and getting off all pain meds by Day 42 .. I started the standing exercises where I stand on the operated leg and doing the exercises with the good leg. Everything went bad.. the pain got worse, doing those, every day until day 3 the pain went to 8 whenever I loaded the stem. What do I do? Ignore the pain? Is that a case of too much micro movement? The pain was too much. But I really need to get strong. I’m very frustrated. I’m at 6 weeks and still need the walker
@catherinenyberg2483: l am also at 6 weeks' and still using crutches. My doctor says this is normal, and that l am making particularly good progress.🤷 She recommended l use only one crutch at home, but there's no way l can walk without hobbling without some sort of support. I started some of these exercises today (just ahead of 6weeks in), but had already been doing the standing exercises regularly. (Hip abduction, posterior raise, frontal raise...) I've been told not to rush it - being patient is part of the process!
P.S. l also experienced crushing pain trying to put all my weight on the operated hip for the frontal leg raise, so l'm just not doing that one again until l feel more secure. I'll talk to my doctor about it when l see her. Different strokes for different folks is all!!
It would be a lot more helpful if you had people who are actually recovering from these conditions to demonstrate. It's very hard to relate to a young more-than-fit person who has complete range of motion.
I feel ur need because it gives realistic expectations because range is way less then what they are able to do. Due to situational concerns with each individual. I just had replacement a week ago. And I struggle with certain exercises. Some I have a better range. It would be nice to see someone doing it with less range to motivate u especially if ur a beginner or struggling due to pain. Just remember any movement is better than none. As PT says motion is lotion!!! God bless a good suggestion. 😉❤️❤️❤️
We don’t need hip replacement patient to do this they can’t demonstrate it as well as these guys they tell you to do it in a small range of motion at first, these are simple exercises anyone can follow, skip the exercises if it hurt or you can’t to it.
I have been a fan for a long time. However, the new format has been underwhelming. With all due respect, it comes across as if you are "phoning it in" and moved on to greener pa$ture$. Some of the information from the two gentlemen is also patently incorrect or not following Best Practices. Example: They suggested in one of the previous clips that when putting on pants the "good leg" should be dressed first. As a recovering hip replacement patient, I assure you that is not what my doctors and PT team have advised. Sorry to see such a good program is moving towards becoming just another RUclips content producer.
There is no way in hell that I can do clam shell at 4 weeks. I cannot even lift it off the other knee without severe pain which will exacerbate the pain longer term. So you may want to mention that some people cannot do this at 4 weeks. In fact my PT said not to even try until it's no longer painful to try it. Same thing applies to straight leg lifts. I think this is bad advise in your videos.

How old are you if you don’t mind me asking?? I am 48 and nearly 4 months old new hip but still dont feel that great
Knee ...😢😢😢
this was one of the most informative, and up to date hip rehab video on the web. thank you sooooo much.
Im still doing the exercises for 0-4 weeks post hip replacement and the current ones after six weeks
You guys are fantastic and with your sense of humor, you make the exercising FUN 😊😊😅
Very useful thanks. Since I can't drive I can't get to the physio. I live alone and have been reliant on your videos and have been making good progress

I third that request !
Absolutely 👍

Is this Bob and Brad from 20 years ago? The humor seems so similar :) Good stuff guys. Best wishes from a fellow PT.

So happy to be able to help. Best of luck in your recovery.
Surgery, right hip, anterior. I am very much appreciating these videos!! Thank you. Glad I found Bob and Brad. Appreciate the subtle humor. 😊👍🏻
Nice exercises, but to perform the clam, there should be a pillow between the legs to keep the hip precautions...
Got it done June 9....you guys are great!!! Such great help!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hope you’re doing well! I had mine done June,10th 2022!
So helpful for future PTA, thank you guys
thanks for best demonstrations i’ve found so far !

Thank you for your support!

Doing a great job fellas. Very balanced and sensible
I loved the correction on ‘building bones’. :)

Ok. Got it. I was confused. Stepped away from my computer for a minute and was like. Hmmm. Nice to meet you!! LOL
Is it for anterior or posterior?

Any suggestions for a 6 week out r total hip replacement, BUT suffering from pain on L hip AVN surgery scheduled for May 3, 2023??
Thanks .... Gracias.

Wat of the leg that had no surgery is the week onr
Anything different for the Super Path hip? I have lots of proximal hamstring pain, 12 days postop
I have a question, forgive me if this was covered somewhere and I missed it. I have had one hip done, with the other scheduled for October. Can I still use stationary bike and treadmill or wait till after having the 2nd operation?
I used a mini cycle with just my good leg .
Hi Bob & Brad. Why am I still numb on the side of my leg?
After THR, posterior, I was progressing, very slow, but steady in PT.

loving it sore , but great 🥰🌹
Nice
Very informative.. these same exercises can be done in the pool .
8:05 bone density is good. No bone density ur gonna have a bad time.
I think your hip hiking demonstration was more of a hip flexion exercise.
Thanks for helping me...😂
It would be a lot more helpful if you had people who are actually recovering from these conditions to demonstrate. It's very hard to relate to a young more-than-fit person who has complete range of motion.
A very helpful suggestion. 👍
What difference does it make who is demonstrating the exercise? I’d rather see someone doing the exercise correctly.
I feel ur need because it gives realistic expectations because range is way less then what they are able to do. Due to situational concerns with each individual. I just had replacement a week ago. As physical therapists they should be demonstrating the modified version of pt exercises.
We don’t need hip replacement patient to do this they can’t demonstrate it as well as these guys they tell you to do it in a small range of motion at first, these are simple exercises anyone can follow, skip the exercises if it hurt or you can’t to it.
Products are very expensive
Hi got my hip replacement in june 22 . I can walk now i do excercises but the problem i am limping . What should i do ? Thanks
Work on your abductors .. still too soon for 2 months by month 6 you should be limp freee
@@sendit3251 thanks dear
Try to avoid limping. Limping depresses the folks around you. 😂😂😂
Bob and Brad clones! even the same delivery and humour

Aren't we supposed to use muscles not a glider
👍
Umm ok.. I I turned this on, walked away and came back to different people. I almost fell over thinking you guys sold your channel or something!!!
Yeah I want to see Bob and Brad not other people 🤔
Great exercises though 😊
You are not supposed to lay on your side or lay on your stomach.
Please don’t do any jokes … these are not good jokes !
And you are not supposed to lift your abdomen upwards.
