Thank you for sharing your experience, Steven. I am also 40 and will be having a total hip replacement November 11th due to a torn labrum, tilted pelvis and hip dysplasia. Your videos have truly helped ease my mind in so many ways. Wishing you all the best in your recovery with your new hip! Thanks again!
Good luck with your recovery. I'm 61, and I had my hip replaced on September 30. I was back at work in 3 weeks and played golf after 7 weeks. No pain in the lower back groin or leg , which was severe before the surgery. Good luck with the blood clots. I had one 15 years ago in my leg and the test showed I am S-protien deficient.
Hang in there. I’m so glad you listened to your body and advocated for yourself. You are absolutely right that it’s life threatening if not caught. We lost my sister in law to a PE when she was just 26. Her lungs were full of blood clots and she had been to the doctor for respiratory symptoms multiple times over the weeks leading up to her death and they kept saying just bronchitis or upper respiratory infection.
I hope and pray for a healthy recovery for you ! I am 14 days post op so stumbled upon your videos. I would love to follow your progress . Wishing you all the best!
Very informative video. I am getting a hip replacement in November 2024. I really appreciate you sharing your journey. This gives me a lot more insight of what I may face. Keep thriving and doing God’s work. Keep pushing! I wish the best for you and your family.
You are incredibly tough and calm. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to good health soon! The impingement/labrum content you both made was super helpful for me. Had those procedures last week. I know this one might be in my future too. So very much appreciate you both. Heal well!
I just had full right hip replacement Dec 19th, 2024, your channel and post about your experience was super interesting and helpful to compare recovery notes, I am a dentist so very physical job and hope to get back to work after 4 weeks. Great info thanks. Cheers Dr Tod
Every one is different. I'm still taking my narcotic medicine but only 2 to 3 times in a 24 hour period. Sleeping and trying to do number 2 is a hassle.
Hang in there, sorry to hear about the clotting issues, those are no joke. The incision looks great, mine was about twice as long and looked like a beginning sewing student closed it up, left with quite the nasty looking scar. Glad to see they have/had you on crutches, they sent me out with a walker and then a cane. With your ultra background, your walks will be over a mile in no time at all, like the rest of the journey, just listen to your body............ and then go a little further, 😁
Being an athlete my self with hip issues, thank you for these videos. A lot to think about before diving in head first with this surgery. Well wishes going your way, this too will pass and you will be back to yourself when your body is ready.
Sorry you have to deal with the clots on top of the hip recovery. Keep hanging tough and stay on top of your health. This is a great example of following up with a different doc when something doesn’t feel right. I’m very happy you found some answers.
I had my right hip replaced on October 1st and have been 9/10 on the pain scale ever since. My surgeon said my pain is highly unusual. I would think he would be curious as to why! We'll see what he says at my post op appointment tomorrow. Good job being proactive in advocating for yourself.
Had my right THR done in Aug 2024. I am 73. One over night. Never really had any pain to speak of. Am able to walk long distances with no issues. Experience some stiffness when first getting up from a chair but otherwise all is good. Convinced a lot depends in surgeon and condition going in!
Oh my lord, i hope you make a speedy recovery, the cost of those meds is daylight robbery especially for potentially life saving medicine. Makes me glad im in the UK and have the NHS! Having both hips replaced over the next few months and looked at having it done privately as have been on the waiting list for 4 years but it was going to cost £34000.00 for both hips so thats a no no! Best wishes to you in your continued recovery, hope i have a better experience! All the best from Scotland!👍👏👏♥️🏴🇺🇸
Wow yeah thats alot of money. Although thats about what my left cost (at least what they billed my insurance). This ER visit was $16,000! Insane! I am doing better. My most recent update video came out yesterday ruclips.net/video/8sepx90rdB8/видео.htmlsi=ZvzmPRqRpIVblinu
Really sorry you've had a bit of a rough ride. I was lucky and my right hip replacement 2 years ago was a walk in the park in comparison and it works and feels just like a natural hip.
Ooof! This was a rough one. I'm not a medical expert at all but it's surprising to hear you got blood clots considering how much you've been able to move this whole time. I hope the big scares are behind you and that your progress keeps lifting you higher and higher. Thanks, as always, for sharing so much with us.
Wow!!!! The cost of the meds is totally ridiculous. You could die not being able to afford it. The makers should be ashamed of themselves! I'm so glad that you went to the doctor in time. I pray that all goes well. 🙏🐈⬛🐾
@@UltraTrailSteven The Eliquis price is unreal. I was just put on it a month ago for heart condition. My pharmacy price was $600 for a month supply. After insurance it was $186. My Cardiologist said to try their hospital pharmacy because they can usually beat the others prices. They got it for me at $18 dollars a month. Unreal the difference. Maybe you can do some more checking for a better price. Good luck
Just had my right hip done in mid November. The difference between the two is like night and day. My left hip just feels odd. I’m not even sure what it is but it feels like a replacement. My right hip was totally different and I don’t feel any different than my real hip. I got hope from the hospital with my walker and ditched it . I didn’t need any of the toilet chair or anything to get in bed.
I had a total hip replacement of my right hip on 10/2. Watched your Week 1 video first (will comment on that next). I’m so grateful that you are posting these videos and that your surgery and recovery is so closely aligned time wise with my own. I’m not a runner (bad knees too), but I do like to cycle, hike and lift weights. I’m so encouraged by your video! I’m wondering what the impact of this blood clot may have on any treatment plan for your other hip. Super scary and so glad you listened to your body. Heal up! Keep the content coming!
Great info! Saw your first video a week ago, had hip replacement yesterday at 56years of age. I still lift, surf, and try to keep up with my wife and boys, so its great to get a perspective of this procedure from someone who still gets at it. The ice machine is awesome, thanks for the tip! 👍🏼
I just had my right hip done monday Dec 9th the Anterior method at Kaiser. Doing well, but looking at your video the doctors at Kaiser were on their A game . They set me up with tylenol 1000mg , Gabapentin, which I'm not to crazy about. Colace, Famotidine, Dexamethasone, docusate Sodium, Pradaxa and Oxycodone if needed for bad pain, which so far on day 4 post op not much pain. But im 65 very active and stopped running about 20 years ago because i knew how bad it is for our joints. I try to eat clean but still get my protein from grass fed meats, avoid fast foods and preservatives. Mediterranean diet is what are family has been on for years, we just get arthritis from the tomato seeds, supposedly. But Good Luck and I'll follow your progress Man :) :)
I’m 46 and 28 days post hip replacement posterior. Nights are still the only time I have pain. I never knew how much we involuntarily stretch in our sleep. Painful after surgery. So excited for all of us to get outside and mobile again.
Thank you for the videos. My hip replacement is in 2 weeks time so I have a really good idea what to expect. Also the replacement is on my 67 th birthday, so I won't forget when I had the surgery. Once again thank you.
Had my hip replaced in February 2019. Doc put me on self injected warfarin right away. Said if I wanted my hip to last, never run again. My work required me to be on my feet all day walking on asphalt and concrete. Summer of 2024 I knew it was time to quit. I Could feel pain in my groin and the other hip was beginning to bother me as well. I’m now 73. Pain has gone away. Best of luck to you in your recovery.
I'm ten weeks post-operation, for full left hip replacement, I still haven't ran, but can cycle and do all non impact training, all the best from the UK
Thank you for sharing this journey you’re so brave and you take care of yourself so well. I think it’s good to get out in the sunlight, especially for recovery sunlight is so beneficial for the human body as humans were not meant to be indoors 24 seven. Thank you for sharing this journey.
Here in Mexico as a rule after the hip surgery (and i think any major surgery) the doctor receipts anti blood clot medicines. I have to take it for 21 days in my postop regardless of any conditions. Today is my day 10 postop for my second hip replacement surgery. Keep taking care of yourself. Wish you recover soon

Had my left hip done Aug 1st. Right scheduled for Dec 19th. Recovery for the left was decent. First couple of weeks sucked. Still have residual numbness but they say it'll take a year before I know for sure. Sorry to hear about your clotting. Hoping I can get by the 2nd hip like my first. Good luck to all.
I had my left hip replaced on the 6th September and two days ago ended up back in hospital with pneumonia! My incision is 27cms long! It has healed well. I have no pain since week two. Haven’t needed any pain relief at all! The swelling was the worst of it all for me. I hope you continue healing well!
Great to hear your recovery has gone well! I hope the pneumonia clears. Make sure and keep an eye on it though. Hopefully the hospital did a chest CT scan to rule out blood clots.
The same happened to me, I was laying on my back and I slightly rolled to the left and then a big clunk, my left leg flopped over, I quickly stood up and it all popped back to normal but it was very sore for days. Now I’m scared of it happening again. When I get out of bed I hook my good leg under my bad leg and lower it to the floor. My physio told me it can happen after the operation but it was very scary and painful. I’m four weeks on from the operation now, still in pain but slightly better now. Hope you heal quickly.
I have had the same surgery as you, it's my 8th day of recovery. 10 months ago I had the surgery at the left side of my hip. It is a different experience, than what I experience right now. I had more pain the first time. I think it's amazing your posting your experience, so people can understand what it's like. One difference from you and me is that I use a syringe and you use socks. Greetings from the Netherlands and keep fighting!
I was told 3 days ago that I need both of my hips replaced. Plus I injured my spine when I injured my hips. I fell when the 4' ladder I was on collapsed and I literally bent over backwards. The ladder collapsed on my right toe, I fell backwards hitting the top of my head first and the ladder had collapsed on the floor and I landed my back on top of a box of cleaners. This was a year ago this month. Anyway they finally did MRI's so I screwed myself up pretty good. My right knees been replaced and then modified. Right shoulder is torn and already has a metal plate and screws, left shoulder has a bloody broken plastic plate and screws and is also torn again. I ended up with gastro parisis from Trulicity shots so I can't take pain meds because my intestines/stomach is paralyzed and I have diverticulitis so I'm on stool softeners and Linsess to survive eating on the TMI side.... I won't have anyone to help me. I have my own private cat rescue and have 37 cats, 16 with FLV...6 dogs, plus parakeets and chickens to care for. I can hardly walk so darn it I'm scared to death....I hurt 24/7 and sleep after exhaustion maybe 2-3 hours broken up a day. Any advice will be more than welcome. Thanks for the videos... GOD BLESS You 🙏🐈⬛🐾
Time to close the animal rescue. Also, there is transdermal pain medicine. Line up home care with any neighbors or friends and inquire about homecare with social worker at hospital before the surgery.
I had a total shoulder replacement my first "major" surgery at age 75 a few ago. MY best friend and his wife had hips replaced and knees replaced. I said we three should go the the airport and try getting through TSA with all the metal we have collectively...LOL He was game...she wasn't !! BUMMER
So sorry about the blood clots. It’s unclear to me if that was precipitated by the hip surgery, or if it was totally unrelated. Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery!
So sorry to hear that things haven’t been as smooth as you hoped for but at least your hip seems to be healing well. On a slightly different note a while ago I asked you for some advice about Hoka shoes and you recommended either Clifton 9 or Bondi 8 shoes. Well I currently have a pair of each and am super happy with both so thank you very much for that advice. Stay strong you’ll be back running very soon.
So glad that the hip itself is doing so well! Bummed about the PE and DVT, but surely if a med costs that much (!!!) it's going to do its job and have you good as new! Keep up the good work! We're still praying!
I had a total hip replacement on September 23rd 2024. I stumbled upon your RUclips videos about your wife’s surgery and recovery this last July when I thought what was wrong with my left hip was going to be a simple fix possibly bursitis and I was looking for exercises to hopefully help with the pain. After pushing for an MRI with contrast, I found out it was AVN requiring a total hip replacement. I don’t fit the profile for AVN so doctor unsure my blood supply was cut off to the femoral head, causing it to die and collapse. I will be 60 in November and I have always been extremely active, so this was quite a shock. I did not realize until today that you and I had surgery very close timewise and I am surprised that you drove yourself to the hospital and then you drove you and your wife home after finding out you had blood clots😳…. I hadn’t given much thought to the blood clot concerns until watching this. I pray that you are doing better.
I had a total left hip replacement at age 51, I was a trail runner for 20 years. I was back to work at my office job in 10 days after surgery. 2 orthopedic surgeons advised no more distance running.
@@UltraTrailSteven my surgeon told me I could get 23-25 years out of the hip if I did not run, he said that would be reduced to 8-10 years if I started running again. The Revision surgery on the second replacement is more involved. I've since had a total knee replacement on the same leg. Different surgeon told me it was directly related to all the years of wear and tear from the miles, I miss it soooooo much. Part of my life is gone.
@@edrecker3048 I have ceramic on ceramic joints and was told I could expect 25-35 years of life out of mine under normal wear. They didn't estimate a lifespan with running. THe whole reason I wanted the replacement was to run again, so I will try

TY for your vids. They were encouraging to say the least. I am currently 3 days after and bruising is insane. Hurts a good amount to walk especially bringing knee up. But i trust the Lord Jesus for full recovery for u and myself. Blessings brother.
Hey Steve watching your follow up video, sorry to hear of your set back. I can tell you a long story about DVT, pulmonary embolism etc. I had both, not due to my hip surgery but I am on lifetime warfarin (blood thinner) because I had to have blood work to test for clotting issues and I do have antiphosphlipid syndrome which is an autoimmune disease. I have to follow a specific protocol before I have any surgery. Will have to do it again when I have revision hip surgery. I did not know I had this until I had a DVT and PE 11/12 years ago. I hope your blood work comes out negative. Take care.
My first left a hip replacement I had femur nerve damage and had to learn how to walk all over again. It took me 6 mths to get back on my feet My right hip replacement had to be replace 3 mths after surgery because the spike didn’t set. Ten days after the second surgery I got sciatic nerve damage from hematoma and wasn’t sure at the time of surgery if I would have permit nerve damage that as of today is not as I was before surgery. I now have long term disability from hip replacement surgery. My dreams of continuing do triathlon were vanished Today I have found horse back riding. To enjoy. .
It's great to see that your doing so well. And also you taking the walks. What I noticed was if I sat around to long I'd get stiff which to me was a step backwards. I hope your coughing isn't anything serious. I thought maybe at first it could be the coughing from the gases given, but that's just a theory. I'm not an MD, I'm just someone that's been through some stuff. Anyway, continue on with your recovery and best wishes to you and don't forget your focus, Running!! Take care!

Sadly know what you’re going through with the blood clots. I had DVT #3 this spring and it’s been the slowest recovery yet. 🥴 Dr. Monticelli at RMCC here in the springs is a FABULOUS hematologist if you need one. I hope you recover quickly. It took a good 6 months for me to feel somewhat normal again after mine. 😬
Man, I’m sorry to hear that you had to go through the pain of blood clots aswell on top of hip recovery. The doctors prescribed Eliquis for me aswell when I left the hospital, I need to take them for 3 weeks, 2 times per day and then switch to Aspenter for one month, hope I won’t get any blood clots as I’m also wearing the compression socks. I hope you won’t have any more problems with blood clots and wish you a fast recovery!

Yeah absolutely
I was wondering if you've heard that the Covid injection, particularly the Astrazeneca one, (Which has now been withdrawn from the market), can have blood clots as a serious side effect? @@UltraTrailSteven
Thank you! I am glad this was helpful, and I wish you the best in your surgery and recovery!
Glad your recovery is going well!
Omg I’m so sorry! That’s awful.
Good days and bad days. I can relate, broke my shoulder a year ago. But you look really great.
Yes! Thank you!
I hope and pray for a healthy recovery for you ! I am 14 days post op so stumbled upon your videos. I would love to follow your progress . Wishing you all the best!
Thank you! Praying you have a smooth recovery as well!
Praying for a speedy recovery for you!!! . I had a right hip replacement and doing my left on 1/15/25. I truly enjoy viewing your journey. God bless!!

Very informative video. I am getting a hip replacement in November 2024. I really appreciate you sharing your journey. This gives me a lot more insight of what I may face. Keep thriving and doing God’s work. Keep pushing! I wish the best for you and your family.
Thank you, and best of luck to you!

You are incredibly tough and calm. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to good health soon!
The impingement/labrum content you both made was super helpful for me. Had those procedures last week. I know this one might be in my future too. So very much appreciate you both.
Heal well!

I’m heading in today for a Left THR surgery. Thanks for your videos they’ve been very helpful. Best wishes for your continued recovery.

I just had full right hip replacement Dec 19th, 2024, your channel and post about your experience was super interesting and helpful to compare recovery notes, I am a dentist so very physical job and hope to get back to work after 4 weeks. Great info thanks. Cheers Dr Tod

Oh man that scar sounds serious! Thanks!
Being an athlete my self with hip issues, thank you for these videos. A lot to think about before diving in head first with this surgery. Well wishes going your way, this too will pass and you will be back to yourself when your body is ready.

The Eliquis price is unreal.

@@UltraTrailSteven Thanks Steven. Yes I got the CT but at another hospital, our little hospital in rural NSW doesn’t have the facilities.

GOD BLESS You 🙏🐈⬛🐾
Praying for you!
Time to close the animal rescue. Also, there is transdermal pain medicine. Line up home care with any neighbors or friends and inquire about homecare with social worker at hospital before the surgery.

Yes I am fine now. Thanks!
I hope your recovery goes well! The doctors said I could drive. We caught the clots early thankfully

I had a total left hip replacement at age 51, I was a trail runner for 20 years. I was back to work at my office job in 10 days after surgery. 2 orthopedic surgeons advised no more distance running.
Depends on the surgeon. I know running will reduce the lifespan of the hip.

Take care.
