- All in all, this is a great scanner. This is a quick update to my videos of this scanner from 2009. In this video, you will hear fire department activity at Herhsey Chocolate World. There may have been a fire inside the building. Please comment and subscribe. I will have many more videos of this scanner to come in the future.
I remember when I first bought this scanner I watched every video you reviewed it on
Thank you for watching it all these years later! This scanner was great when it came out. It never performed as well as the unidens but wow it was nifty and user friendly.
MisterTwister55 Have to agree on you on that one I really like the SDS 100
@@danielburch6735 I have an sds200. It outperforms the radio shack on p25 all day long but it has a few huge flaws. Weird noises, terrible menu and memory system, and really bad analog performance.
Yeah I totally agree with you on that the one thing I do like about the pro 106 it scans faster through analog to me the SDS 100 scans a lot slower analog
ive been an avide listner since 1992 started out in michigan i just love it and it comes in handy here in georgia when seaver weather comes in im still new too the p25 system but im fixen too get a RadioShack® PRO-197 39,000-Channel Digital Desktop Scanner hopefully soon they just switched here too the p25 system enjoy the vids thanks again
Jun 2021 and mine still sounds superb.
absolutely! the audio won't be as healthy sounding as a quality ham radio, like my VX-170, but it scans much faster and receives just about anything. Go for it!
One nice feature of this radio is the led that curves over the top front edge of radio. Can be programmed to different colors so you can have say blue for police, red for fire and so on.
People use scanners for a variety of reasons. Many have a keen interest in monitoring radio communications services such as EMS, rail, airband, ham etc so they can keep informed. Others use scanners because they are naturally curious whilst others use them to thwart the law which is causing many radio systems to become encrypted.
I love this scanner :)
I have the base/mobile version, which is the PRO-197, and it's absolutely wonderful. I considered the Uniden model but went with model because of prior experience with other models of this manufacturer, which is GRE America. Actually the model I have is the PSR-600 which is in fact the PRO-197 (only badged differently).
These are excellent digital-capable scanners. However, I also love the Uniden models as well :)
i really appriciate your reveiw...its good info.........its not loud so people cant use em for home invasions
iam very happy with my 106 scanner and i my scanner about 3 year now and sitll run
like a champ and i my take scanner everyehere i go
thank you for the response & 73 from Minnesota.KØBLR
For anyone wondering why older scanners won't work anymore.. Fire departments all around the U.S. have switched over to digital radios.. They will not be picked up by low scanners.. 5-600 dollar ones will though if you code them right.
I bought this scanner second hand and did not come with an owner's manual and our local police department switched to digital, which is why I got this scanner but when I enter the frequencies that used to be analog but are now digital all I hear is squelch noise or white noise or whatever you call it, in other words I can't hear the transmission it's blocked out and I have no idea how to program the frequencies to digital so I can hear them. I basically have no idea what I'm doing. So my question is, How do I program them into it, to digital, so that I can hear the transmissions??? Our local sheriff's department is still on analog, 155.310 and such, fire, city fire, county fire, ems, etc, and I programmed those in and they transmit and receive just fine. What am I doing wrong??? Please let me know if you can or will help me, if you would! It would be greatly appreciated! I have asked the same thing on other videos of this scanner but have not yet got anyone to respond! Thank you for your attention and any and all assistance to this problem!! Thank you again for any information regarding my situation!
If you hit the finc key and hit ATT you will see the G will disappear. The G stands for Global Anttenuate (sp) witch removes unwated adjacent signals. So if your not near a tower Hit Func key and the att key and your signal will get better
One thing that "anyone who knows" can suggest to anyone who may be limited by economic status is to buy something that doesn't have digital capabilities but DOES HAVE "limit search" capabilities and use that to find out ALL signals that they can hear. I have an 80 channel Radio Shack tabletop that picks up a few local non-digital police frequencies but it also picks up all kinds of other things for as far as 30-80 miles in all directions.
800 MHZ NJ state police comes in very strong.
I need step by step instructions to program a p25 p1 system. I will write this information in my notebook along with other info for my pro-106. Thanks
Hello fellow Pennsylvanian! I've over in Lancaster county!
Just got the scanner. The video is good for the basic programming but i can't seem to add multiple HEX id channels on the programmed talk group? A lot different than my old uniden apco scanner.
800 MHz is just another frequency. it doesn't mean much. trunking is when you have a radio programmed for 10 or so frequencies and it constantly changes without the user knowing it. the other radio changes with it. it keeps the convo more private and allows for more channels on less frequencies. it also helps dispatchers out a lot, too.
Nice demonstration of the pro-106.. question: on the rocker button that came off, was it from normal use or did it catch on something and pull off, or get banged etc..?
Not able to completely program my scanner. After putting all info in I F1 to save and it comes up memory full... How do I erase un-needed memory?
Good video! Does it still pick up analog? My old pro 91 won't pick up police as of yesterday they just switched to digital! Radio shack $424.00 for this model! But can't go without one!
Digital is what most departments are going to. Digital could use vhf (Very high frequency- 150MHz) or uhf (Ultra High Frequency-500MHz). The old analog systems could use vhf or uhf also. Does this help?
I am too but I'm at my department enough to not need one lol.. Every call I want to listen to I'm usually riding on.... I'm an Explorer..
So this is a digital scanner cool...a guy on Craigslist has one for sell 175.00 is that a good deal
ok thanks for the video. I have all my objects in yet I don't understand how to get the alert lights with the different colors to get programed. What steps do I need to take?
I just decided to send in my PRO-106 for reprogramming by www.scannermaster.com. Great scanner but it stopped receiving anything but VHF. I think Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee may have switched to a Phase 2 system. I also upgraded to BNC VHF/UHF/800 MHz REM-842B REMTRONIX Portable Triband Antenna. I can't wait to get it back and see, hear what is does. I also decided it was time to upgrade to something new and wanted a base station scanner, so I got a Uniden BCD536HP. Absolutely loving it! I also have a Uniden BC450A. Are you familure with the Unication pagers, I'm a volunteer first responder and looking at Unication Pagers.
Mister twister. is possible rename list. eg. *02 to "Chicago police"
Actually, this scanner is made by Whistler. If you go on their website, you will see the exact same scanner. I just bought the Whistler on Amazon for 239.00. saved 160.00!
Not when this video was made it wasn't. It's made by GRE and some were rebranded for radio shack. Whistler rebranded GRE scanners as well. It wasn't until 2014 they startedmaking the WS1040 themselves. Great scanner tho.
@belly52 It will definitely receive but it has limits to what it can decode. What system do you want to listen to? (what type)
Is it true what Radio Shack is saying that analog scanners go out in May of 2010? They told me That I have to get a digital scanner, I thought all scanners were digital.
I have a BCD396xt and am not satisfied with the transmission signal it gets here in good ol' Sunny Orlando. It has almost 5 signal bars, and still has "interference." Sometimes, I can't even understand what they're saying. It almost sounds encrypted, but it's not. It's P25. It is a simulcast system. How is the signal usually with your scanner? Or do you have a suggestion as to why the signal isn't great, or good for that matter..... ?
just wondering what is the main purpose to have a scanner??
Hi there Mister Twister,
Well tomorrow is the big day......I'll be trading one of my 817's for a Pro-196 scanner. It looks like it comes with the computer adapter....Is it easier to program the radio with a computer? One feature I'm is can the radio switch between tower sites like the uniden?
Nice scanner. Now you have another subscriber. Me.
This scanner can pick up the 800 mhz range right? I am in San Diego and recently the fire department switched to the digital system. Thanks
does this thing scan like a regular scanner? I usually put 10-12 active channels on 4-5 different banks,it looked like yours stayed on 1 channel?
he is Trunking. it uses 1 or 2 control channels and multiple for handhelds and mobiles and extenders. It can be programed that way. but most PD systems use Digital Trunking System.
so this will pick up digital fire department channels correct? I am needing a scanner that will pick up signal without being encrypted.
If your system is rebanded for 800/900mhz/ p25 how would u input the freq to listen to them.Do you have to input DEC/HEX or tone etc... listed under radioreference database?
Would you recommend this scanner to me? Many of the police in my area use digital 800MHz communications.
@MisterTwister55 thanks 4 ur help
Hey I have a question..was just wondering how I go about Resetting The GRE PSR 500 scanner I programmed it but I did some stuff wrong and would like to reset it and reprogram It completely and I cant find anywhere in the manual on the CD it came with to reset it..Any help would be Great...And the crazt part about it is is I just bought the scanner to replace my old Uniden BC72XLT scanner that I has for couple years and you would think I would Know a Little bit on how to work this New scanner.
does this pick up departments that went to full digital.
Yes.
Digital Reception wont help if PD encrypt.
No it won't pick up tactical encrypted channels. Most of the police have been moving to these. Detective units etc
would this scanner pick up all emegencies services in the uk
would you know if a Uniden BC346XT Trunk Tracker lll analog scanner would pick up digital?
okay I didn't think so... I am trying to find one that will though for a reasonably cheap price
whats up with the top button?
@belly52 Ok. If you find out the system, I'll tell you if it'll work.
can pro-106 talk to another radios ?? or he just scan ?
oh thank you
Would you reccommend this scanner for storm spotters on top of the ham gear I already use?
would this scanner work in the uk
Please advise how to program multiple talk groups in the same p25 system??
Its simple, use the Radio Reference Database to import Scanlists.
my analog radio shack scanner has a belt buckle that screws on.
i have the pro 106 it scans but i dont hear anything can you help im in toledo ohio
Soon, (most likely within a month or two), my local joint communications system, i,e, police, fire, sheriff, and ambulance, will be switching to the P25 digital system. My main question is, does anyone happen to know if/when the Union Pacific railroad will be switching to P25? Also, if anyone is wondering, my local railroad uses the Falls City Sub Dispatcher on 160.410 MHZ. Any help is accepted, and Thanks!
cant program a Motorola type 2 smartnet. is it 800 or vhf
i wish some one would call me, im not understanding this. i just bought a pro 652 witch seam very close to this.
ive used my cheap belt clip since i got mine from my bro and i use the hell out of it its strong just dont be lifting weights or something with it on lol
This one's digital radio can break any encryption?
NO you cannot monitor encrypted communications on any scanner.
wrong dude
I think you're confusing encryption with digital voice. I am not wrong.
That’s a good question I’d like to know to
how much do these run for?
hey my pro106 is given me problems when i turn it on it just saying pausemode on the sceen and just beeping
am not sure at the min as uk police have when digital i have an old scanner withs picks up analog
The top button is broke. That sucks.
can anyone tell who fixs scanners cause i having problem with mine pro106
how do i program the id freq
how to program p25 convental
Does anyone know what the latest digital scanner is?
ICOM R-30 and AOR DV-10 both coming in 2018 !!!!! built in Bluetooth and GPS.
Covers the serial number than shows it right after lol
*then
You might have a better decode rate (with a stronger incoming signal) if you turned off GLOBAL ATTENTUNATION (the capital G).
It almost sounds like a police scanner app on iphone
i got one for 260 dollers got to get the software next
mrtwister, i need your help, please hit me up when you have a moment, I bought this scanner because of your review, but i really need help
Thanks
Dude the fuck did you do to the dpad lmao.
@Tony62703 haha yeah
Can anyone give me some wisconsin scanner frequencies aircraft or police I live in Vilas but we Riley live Milwaukee
Maureen Patch go to www.radioreference.com and it has several choices for how you can get the frequencies for your town, county, state, region for scanning.
Maureen Patch n
Probably not..
@MisterTwister55 mine was made like 1000 after yours.
i hate digital soo expensive plus it always fails where analogue just works at least it does for me
buy a Motorola xts or apx instead of a scanner and you'll change your mind in a 💓
007879 is serial number :}:}:} i need that scanner i could make alot more videos if i had it
sorry to spoil your privacy but that was quite stupid, serial number is 007879. Great video though
*trollface*
@edward092492 lol
007879 His Serial Number
