    I like what they do with Bastion in this show, that fact that he isn't Master Mold and Nimrod just combined by a magical artifact, but instead their "evolution" and/or "successor", but also the symbolism that his character have, that at some point in the future Nimrod/Master Mold come to the conclusion that in order to eliminate the mutant race, they have to evolve too, and kinda become some sort of "synthetic mutant" by having that pink goo traveling to the past and infecting the person who's end becoming Bastion's father, transforming said person into the 1st prime sentinel and then with his mother having him, having Bastion, living the same life as any other mutant, first being a normal human but at some point during his teen years, start awakening his powers, but also his hate for mutant, kinda like saying: "In order to destroys what i hate, i have to become what i hate".

    It was a small little scene in the overall comic story, but I remember a poignant bit where some elderly bar owners were watching their rowdy patrons cheer on some anti mutant rhetoric on TV, but they don't. Because they were of Japanese descent, and they remembered a time, where they were considered the enemies and could be rounded up to cheers. It was a really interesting moment to someone that had never thought comics had anything to do with the real world to that point.

  • @milkiassamuel780
    @milkiassamuel780 5 месяцев назад +8

    After watching episode 8, Bastion quickly became one of my favourite X-Men villains. Bastion is such a great villain in this show, and his plan is genius yet horrific to think about. His being a mix of Nimrod & Master Mold is wild. I love how charismatic he is with his belief that mutants supposedly take away humans' chances of the future, like a twisted, charismatic entrepreneur/salesman pitching his belief onto your average human middle-class guy, spreading more fear and insecurities about mutants to inevitably get them to act on said fears. Theo James is doing a SUPERB job in the role and like you said whenever I read a comic featuring him Ill just hear his voice. What's even worse is that there is a level of truth and meta-commentary from his philosophy and how he manipulates blue-collar class racism and the bigotry normal humans create based on their fears. Not to mention the fact that such a big part of the population are secretly Human Sentinel sleeper agents and didn't even know it is SCARY ASF! These things can also reproduce and extend the human population, making the implications even more terrifying.
    It's funny how Gyrich teased this fate in the first episode, saying, *"Tolerance is extinction."* This basically means that whenever humanity starts tolerating mutants, humans will inevitably believe they'll go extinct; therefore, they believe that whenever mutants start tolerating humans, mutants need to go extinct, hence what happened in Genosha.
    That Wolverine and Nightcrawler fight scene is some of the best Western animations I have ever seen in a comic book animated show like GODDAMN THAT SCENE WAS CLEAN ASF! I loved seeing the first-person perspective of what it's like to teleport with Nightcrawler.
    I love how much of an overprotective mom Jean was to Cable, and seeing the Summers family fighting together was cool and cute to watch. Dom Torretto would be proud.
    It was really surreal watching Dr Cooper become so numb to the death and misery humanity creates to make mutants suffer, ultimately coming to accept that Magneto was right about humans. Magneto also officially declared war on humanity after all the pain and death he witnessed and sending that EMP blast around the world, which no doubt caused hundreds of other deaths, like planes falling out of the sky, reactors losing power, and God knows what else was such a scary yet overpowered move!
    BTW, THE CAMEOS IN THIS EPISODE ARE INSANE; WE GOT SPIDERMAN, OMEGA RED, DOCTOR DOOM, BARON ZEMO, SILVER SAMURAI, etc...

    • @brettwood1351
      @brettwood1351 5 месяцев назад +1

      Bastion's interesting, because he's so clearly suppossed to mirror a mutant's experience. So how much is inborn programing directives from Sentinels, and how much was learned? I'd kinda like to find out. Even the way he restrains Val Cooper, using Metal, even if in a different way, reminded me of something Magneto would do.
      Someone calculated from how many flights are in the air at any given time how many people Magneto would have killed just from plane crashes. Ranged from Hundreds of thousands, to over one and a half million.

    That scene of Wolvy's POV of Nightcrawlers teleporting was a work of art. Excellently portrayed. But I find there were a couple missed opportunities:
    1. Having Cap voiced by Brian Bloom from Earth's Mightiest Heroes (no offense to Josh Keaton; guess I'm still sore EMH was axed).
    2. When helping Wolverine, Nightcrawler says, "No, my friend. Nine!" When he could've said, "Nein, my friend. Nine!"
    Though, with Magneto pulling off that massive wave, I'm curious if they're going to try and adapt Fatal Attractions before the season is done--at least the part where Logan loses his adamantium, and he goes through Season 2 without it. It seems like a bit too much at this point, but this show has thrown it's share of curveballs before.

    Loving everything about this show. My ONLY gripe was how they did Captain America. Who was that in that suit cause that was definitely not Steve Rogers?😅 Talking about “wE hAve tO Do tHiS bY tHe BoOk rOgUe, i HaVe tO wAiT tIlL ThE gOvErNmEnT sAyS i CaN gO” Bruh the real Steve Rogers would have already had Trask gift wrapped at the X mansion before Rogue even knew what was going on. There’s a whole movie about how Cap is like that what was this version doing?😂

    I've always enjoyed "Magneto Was Right". Thing is that that doesn't have to mean that humans have to be exterminated but rather that:
    a) assimilation is NOT a successful strategy --- i.e. showing systems you are not a threat doesn't result in acceptance, smashing and/or disregarding those systems is the path forward
    b) when you are sufficiently othered (in extant systems) acceptance is always conditional.
    *That* is why I love it. Not because of violence. Rather because no matter how one may disagree with methods I will argue to the ends of the earth that those two points are unassailably true.

    If you are activated as a Sentinel Prime, are you dead?
    Wolverine and Nightcrawler were slicing them up left and right, but surely they can't just wake up from the EMP and go about their lives, right?
    Meaning Bastion killed his own mum, Beast's almost girlfriend, Sunspot's butler, and an entire town.

    Hoping for techno-organics could mean maybe Danger coming out on side of the X-men initially, potentially with one of the human sentinels crashing into the danger room as an alternate origin.
    I'm looking forward to when Mr. Sinister betrays Bastion, probably with some snide statement about how Bastion didn't want to try it his way. Even better if Mr. Sinister's plan of waiting until the force is fully assembled before unleashing it, was foreshadowing of his own plan and not just lecturing Bastion.

    For me, anything about techno-organic life in the Marvel Mutant Universe starts and ends with Warlock and Doug Ramsey, and I don't think the plot is going to introduce them any time soon. That and Bastion has potentially transformed hundreds (if not thousands) of people against their knowledge (food and drink) into killing machines for the sake of his agenda, including his mom and many of the people from his hometown. So if any questions or statements about this has to come up, it's probably going to the notion of what good is evolution when it's birthed from a hateful agenda and coupled with enslavement of one group to drive the other into extinction. But odds are that this is probably just a "hidden mine" scenario where the question is more "who can the X-Men/mutants trust if any human can be a Sentinel" than anything about a new step in evolution and the bigots who control who "evolves" and who doesn't.

    This show has been great, I feel it is made for me, I was reading comics at the time of many of these stories and was a fan of the show growing up, my only complaint is some tales like Inferno were too condensed but still well done. They sometimes have examined the techno-organic evolutionary path and related themes, especially in x-men, mainly through the technarchy (kind of like the borg), the prime sentinels (such as omega sentinel), johny sublime's "sister" archaea (think that was her name) who in contrast to her sibling who could take over organic bodies, she took over cyborgs (a prime sentinel in fact if I remember correctly) etc. And that is only from xmen, other marvel franchises have had it as well to some degree (iron man, he stored copies of his personality in computer systems, or when hank pym and Ultron became a single being). It certainly is a good time to examine it though with the advances in AI and neural link, etc. If they do explore those ideas, i hope it's with nuance so that both the good and bad are presented.

    I think the point is that "mutant replacement" isn't necessarily a bad thing. Mutants, even if a different species and very much fundamentally people, while the prime-sentinels are in some way something less, restricted and limited by controlling programming directives. Also when you look at that future, all the human sentinels look the same and have the same power set, while all the mutants are different from each other. When you look at it you see what Bastion, and those signing up see as "fundamentally human" which is a kind of sameness, a kind of homogeneity, while the threat of the mutants is their differentness, their diversity, and thus their very existence will always be a threat to any status quo. The people willing to sign up are on some level willing to become something less than a person, if it means they will have an edge over what is different, over what can't be made to conform. Which works. Because that's what hate does. It makes you into something less. It's like a programming directive, that overrides your free will, it forces you into a mold, and forces your mind into one where you can't accept anything outside of it. In the end it makes you into a worse monster than the one you think you're fighting, real or not.

    Your covering of this has me convinced that when they release the first season on DVD I'm going to buy it. Not going to sign up for the service to stream it, but after all the bad press it got in the lead up I'm happy to hear that most of it seems to have been a case of (mostly) empty virtue signaling and that the series is what was promised back when it was announced.
