Just 3 minutes ago, I was watching Seinfeld, season6, ep.6 and in Jerry's apartment, on the top shelf is a copy of R.C. Pro-Am.🤓 Very cool!! I paused the screen to make sure I was correct. Yup! Jerry played NES with Kramer back in the day! I was 12 when Pro-Am arrived for NES, played it.. loved it! 🎮
David Wise and his catchy chip tunes are a thing of beauty. The rubber banding, especially by the yellow car, was maddening but it was still a really fun game.
28:40: Chris, Tim and Stephen Stamper, Paul Proctor and Mark Betteridge, the people who are on the high score table, except graphic artist Kevin Bayliss and composer David Wise!
This reminds me of the late 80’s more than almost any other game. I used to rent it all the time. It gave me joy and pissed me off so much too. It has a weird vibe, almost like Paperboy, but a good weird!
This takes me way back. I played this & RC Pro-Am II all the time with a friend next door for a couple of years. We'd play this, then go jump small dirt ramps on our bikes in his back yard. Those were some good times of just being a kid.
It just occurred to me that this game could make a good basis for a Mario Kart on the NES. Instead of trying to emulate the SNES Mode 7 and miserably fail, this could give birth to a really fun Mario game.
This game was so good, but it had one major flaw, catch up for the AI. Sometimes they would zip by you and there would be nothing you could do to catch up.
R.C. Pro Am, another of Rare's classics on NES. Diddy Kong Racing takes ideas from this game such as speed zippers as such, because the game was planned to be called Pro Am 64.
This is one of the 9 NES games we owned growing up so I have fond memories of this game and played the crap out of it. I don't think I've ever made it as far as you though haha. The levels get crazy difficult in the mid 20s and if you make one mistake it's all over.
@@rjcupid owned super Mario bros. 1 and 2, Blades of steel, TMNT 3, adventure island 3, Zelda 1 and 2, Battletoads, rc pro am. My favorite was legend of Zelda for obvious reasons. It's a classic. One of the best games of all time.
@@The_Bad_Guy. That was an awesome assortment of games your family had. Adventure Island III and TMNT III were pretty late in the NES lifespan too. I hope you still have them, AI III is expensive now! Zelda fascinated me as a kid. I sadly was never able to own it back then, but I rented it and even drew maps because the rental didn’t come with the map. The only other game that sparked my sense of wonder as much as Zelda was Metroid. Zelda Link To The Past on SNES was amazing too. Thanks for sharing.
@@The_Bad_Guy. Ya I think we discussed game collecting before on the Rescue Rangers 2 video. I haven’t collected in a long time, but I have almost every NES game which I found in the 00’s. It’s very impressive to have 400 games; good work haha. I think it’s even more impressive to have your childhood games because I remember we sold them all or tossed them when the SNES came out. Collecting for the NES has always been my favourite. Finding them at garage sales and at thrift stores for next to nothing back in the day was the best.
Did anyone else have one of those cartridges where, if you played for long enough, the whole track glitched out and began to slowly fade away, bit by bit, until you couldn't see anything but the hazards and it became impossible to steer?
There were many times where I would pop this cartridge in the ol' NES, let the (amazing) theme music play a few times, then turn the game off. Not like I was actually gonna play the game - I'm awful at it!
As a kid i remember if you keep playing this game, after "beating" it eventually the tracka start to disappear during the races and slowly u are left with a black screen entirely. Does anyone else remember this?
I have this game with the gold and white round seal. I played it with the either the standard NES controller or the NES Advantage. I enjoyed it, but I couldn't beat the whole game. And then, later one day, I want to get another copy of R.C. Pro-Am with the oval seal.
Playing this game was fun as a kid now a days when I play it still makes me laugh I loved the sounds in this game and the high pitched noise that the AI cars made always makes me laugh and the speed strips are funny as hell specially when you catch an oil slick at high speed the sound is sooo funny 😄
This was the first real "racing" game on the NES where the other vehicles on the track weren't just obstacles to avoid to create the illusion of a real race. That requires heavy processing capabilities for such primitive hardware, because it has to keep track of where the other racers are and what they're doing when they're off screen.
I always wished that these old-school racing games - this, your Super Off-Roads, Indy Heats, what-have-you had some sort of definitive Final Race at the end. It was always either jarring to just have the game come to a sudden dead stop (the sequel to this game does that after what I think is either 32 or 36 tracks), or confusing as you wondered if the friggin' game planned on ending at some point in your going-on-three-hour marathon session. Sadly, by the time the likes of Rock N' Roll Racing came along and actually gave you quite a cool little ending for your efforts, this style of racing game just sorta faded away afterward.
Man, you made me remember how unfair this game would become, you could be 1st in every race until one point where one tiny mistake was everything you needed to never be able to catch up again hence out and game over.
This game was Dark Souls of Racing Games. I still remember that at one point during the race one of the opponents got a super boost and there was no chance to get that one car cause it was that fast! (happened here in level 18 i guess with that green one!) And as soon as you made one big mistake you became 4th and you were immediatly game over :D How many levels can you race here???? So pretty well done here mate and thanks for bringing back many memories :D
Ahh yes remember this game well I don’t know how far I got maybe up to the third class of cars and I never knew there wasn’t an ending still a cool and fun game will you cover the sega version of this game that would be cool. You always help me remember my childhood the golden age of arcade games and the generation of game masters.
I love this game as a little kid it's really really addicting the only two things I really hate about this game is that damn orange car The AI really cheats, it makes a comeback for no reason. And it gets really brutal like battletoads tier later on in the game. Other than that, I love this game. 😊
I don't remember many NES games being quite as addictive, or as maddening, as the original R.C. Pro-Am. It's one of the system's true classics.
Thanks for doing this one. It was a favorite of mine as a kid.
Yep a really great time waster also when games was just so simple
What's up old man 😊. Long time no see Migo. I remember beating this 32 tracks of muscle memory hell lol.
Have always loved it, one of the best NES games without a doubt!

Same. This and ExciteBike
Oh wow, I’m 7 years old again…

The mother to my children/my wife was 1 year old when I bought this. Crazy.... Time flies
The cover says 32 race tracks, but only 24 are there.

Same here, except I was a "kid" in my mid twenties.
Memories! This game was hard especially when you go deep in it
Oh, the memories. The memories! Classic Rare all the way. Good job, too, Alex. 👏🏼
Ty :)
I remember playing the Game Boy version, and it is fun yet frustrating. I didn't know there was an NES version.
The NES sequel had 4 player support just like the Game Boy version. Worth a look!
There was also a Sega Genesis port. It's a nice upgrade along the same lines of the Genesis's version of Snake Rattle and Roll.
Second one is better, but this is still a classic game.
Yes and yes 😀
