Overview
==========
RC Pro-Am turns out to be a really playable game, even after all this time.
==========
Perfect Run Definition
==========
A perfect run in RC Pro-Am includes:
* All races are won with a 1st place prize (all gold trophies)
* All vehicle upgrades are obtained
* All NINTENDO letters are obtained
* 24 races are won (technically the game has an indefinite number of races, but after race 24, the levels repeat)
----------
A perfect run does NOT need:
* Getting all ammunition (all you need is enough ammo to win)
* Getting all invincibilities (those little white stands)
* Getting all weapons (you can only have one at a time anyway)
* No crashes (number of times crashed isn't tracked in the game)
* Avoiding all hazards (oil slicks, water, walls)
----------
Bonus/style points (not needed for a perfect run, but nice) for:
* Hitting an oil slick but recovering from the spin-out without crashing.
* Minimal ammo use
* Never usings bombs (I hate them =)
* Never ending a level with bombs
* Long drifts
* Avoiding hazards generally
* Skillfull or elegant driving

Tips & Tricks
==========
** Wrecking an enemy car removes the speed-boost AI cheat **
In the late game, it's all about managing the other cars. The other cars cheat (especially the yellow car). When another car gets a speed boost power-up, there's a sort of slide-whistle sound that indicates it. Wreck the yellow car immidiately when you hear the whistle. Fire missiles right when another car passes you, rather than trying to catch up.
** Blue is the "best" opponent (besides cheating Yellow) **
Blue is a better driver than the other colors, especially in the late game. For most of the game, you can overtake Blue on a straightaway, but in the last levels (around 19+) Blue can overtake you. This means you have to be ready for Blue to steal the victory at the finish line (which happened to me on my first attempt... blue stole it only a few pixels from the finish on level 24!).
** Avoid bombs **
Bombs are awful =) You can keep someone from passing you, but once they do you can't do anything about it. Missiles, of course, work the opposite way. A number of levels have both bombs and missiles. If that's the case, get the bombs before the missiles (with as little time between as possible). That way you still get the extra ammo for picking up the bombs, but get to use them as missiles!
I remember running out my house to get this game from Toy’s R Us on my 10th birthday. I remember my Aunt and Grandma giving me money to get it. They’re both passed on now, and is another nice memory of how good they were.
Thanks.
BEAUTIFUL!!
I’m basically the same age. Time flies by doesn’t it?
Thats a good memory. They wanted you to be happy. Did you play the game with them or did they watch you play it?
@@andrewtrushinski3848 Nah, they were pretty clueless to video games, and just played cards.
2020 and this still manages to put a smile on my face. This is timeless classic, and one of Rare's best games out there. Also, the yellow car is a cheating bastard.
omg yeah! The yellow car!
seriously F that yellow car. held a grudge for 35 years
As soon as you hear that sound if you dont blast him it's over with.
I told my parents the game cheated and they thought I was nuts
@@wdkaye 2:13 LOL
I freegin love the nostalgia. Such a big part of my childhood. Ahhh the 80’s.
90s for me. I got it used yo.
I was so bad at this game, so bad. Ah the memories.
Yep good old days 👍
Had so much fun playing RC Pro AM and Super Off Road as a kid. Late 80s, early 90s for me.
Same I played the shit outta this game..
Imagine all the fkn anxiety we went through as kids...hearing that high pitched turbo kick in after you spent hours trying to beat a certain stage only to fkn lose at the last second hahahaha I loved it.
Connecting the pre-race menu with the starting jingle is honestly a stroke of genius. The pace of gameplay in this game took the breath away just playing it. You didn't have time to stop.
After enduring those frustrating years, just seeing the Yellow Car get put in its place feels so good
This person playing this is the best I’ve ever seen! If you haven’t played this it gets really hard around the 14th level to get it perfect is very very hard
16:08 There's nothing more satisfying than when you make the Orange car crash right as it's about to go into turbo hyper-speed.
yeah, that cheater bastard
Are you color blind? Yellow!
@@actsismmljcorrectlyobeyed6190 No, it's Orange, just look and compare the orange car to the yellow directional arrows on the course, such as 2:13
@@TheNoisePolluter SIGH 🙄
@@TheNoisePolluter Fandom RC Pro AM
"Computer AI
The computer is very weak on track 1, but gets progressively harder as the player advances through the tracks. In the first 24 tracks, if the blue car is significantly behind the player, it will speed up to a speed somewhat faster than the player's current maximum speed. But if the blue car is significantly ahead of the player, it will slow down to a speed significantly slower than the player's current maximum speed. The green and yellow cars maintain a constant speed, usually slightly slower than the player's current maximum speed, but if the player shoots and destroys an opposing car, the player risks having the yellow car reach the "impossible" constant speed of 127 mph. (The players absolute maximum is 103 mph)"
WOW!!!!!!! What memories. It has to be at least 30 years since I played this game.
Same here.
I used to barrow it from my neighbor friend
My D-pad thumb hurts just watching this. Brings me back!
Still the best racing game ever made. No other can take its place
Pro-am2 ?
Sega rally?
F-Zero GX would like a word.
Mario Kart?
Rad racer
Mario Kart
Pre-Mario Kart. I loved this game so much as a kid. Easily one of my favorites of all time.
Me and my brothers would stay up all night playing this game when I was a kid. Good memories ^^
I am smiling ear to ear watching the whole thing remembering how fun this was even if you lost
came up on my insta feed and had to come to youtube and check - incredible vault of memories with this game!
Memories!!! Yes I was a Nintendo Nerd back in middle school! Remember playing this a lot and up past midnight on a school night and hear my dad say “Boy turn that thing off and go to bed”!!! Memories.
I still hear the theme song from this song playing in my mind from time to time. Haven’t played it in 20 plus years
Bro that's why I'm here now 😂
@@AB1B1 ha! Thanks for replying. It gave me a reason to come back and hear these sounds again. Good memories.
I get nes songs in my head from time to time also. Some I remember right away.
I inherited this game... lol. i had a neighbor at an apartment complex that had this huge box of NES games, this was back in 1999 or so, the family moved out and he left half of them behind... gold dust. this game was in there.
also for those that want a 2 player experience of this exact gameplay, rock n roll racing on the SNES. epic fun.
I always loved the sound the cars made when you got a powerup right after hitting a zipper like at 5:06. WOoOoOoOoOo!
Tom C hahahah I hear ya, very crazy addictive sounds in this game
FACTS
Tnx alot for the video, this was my 2nd game in 1990 I was 9yrs old, my thumb was bleeding at times from playing it so much, I got emotional, makes me feel like a kid again!!!
Dj Conejo mee2
Nintendo thumb....we lost a lot of good men out there.
Oh god this game was so addicting...
This was a fun as hell game hours and hours playing this as a little kid
I LOVED THIS GAME! Way beyond its time!

My Childhood!!!!
I dont even want to know how many hours I spent on this game lol goodtimes!
Me too from S.Korea :)
Same. But now I'm grown up and play it for Genesis.
Hehe.. it's basically the same game except your antenna blows back when you speed up. .. and 5 cars on the track instead of 3.
I spent many a days and nights after school playing this game. For me, definitely top five best NES games. I know the list is long but damn this was a good one.
I have to agree with you on that.
Super Sprint and Super Off Road are my two personal favorite NES racing games, tho I know they started in arcade first.
This was an excellent game at that time
I really miss this game. Definitely one of my favorite all time games!!
I used to spend hours playing this game! I forgot how fun it was. Now I wish that I could play it again!
Oh my ...brought back to child hood. I used to remember the feeling of going to rent a game and the game I wanted was there.
Thats because back then there wasnt as many foreigners with visas coming to saturate the job market and cause traffic
One of my most often played games from my childhood. I always wanted to race RC cars back then…couldn’t afford them…this had to do, haha…
Legendary game🙏❤️
I was born in '83, and I think my family got a NES in '87 or '88. This game came out in '87, it was likely a year or more later that I played it. It was one of the few games that I had at the time. This video brings back so many feelings of a younger time. Years later in college I got a FC Twin "8 and 16 bit console" (played most NES and SNES games), which I then combined with this game and a Game Genie (my original from as a kid), and I think that this game realistically becomes impossible at level 32 if I remember correctly. Eventually they get so fast that you literally can't win.
I just won the rc pro am for the first time...ive been playing 26 years..hard game...learned from yours...thanks for the help
I always found a lot of symbology between life and RC Pro-Am. It's not so much about how good you are, but more about how good you are getting through obstacles and trying to do it better than the person behind you...and hoping you're lucky enough to have missiles to shoot at them if they happen to get ahead of you.
Man I think the Orange car used to use Nitris or something...cause I remember being a kid and being out in front a that guy would hit a switch and it was like Doc Brown in the Delorean on me....This and Mike Tyson's Punchout were the only games that stumped me...didn't beat Punchout til I was like 28 and determined to go back and conquer my childhood nemesis...RC Proam...well 35 and counted, still no luck.
loved this game! marble madness, tecmo bowl, and super off road too.
This video is so therapeutic sonically. Thank you.
Such a great game. I loved the upgrade feature on this back when I was a kid. I got this gane from a friend but I can't remember what I traded for. I know I traded a baseball card for Caslevenia.
21:17 Talk about a close finish.
Now I need to play this game again.
OG drifting game. What fun this was!!! Thanks for the vid.
Great gaming! man that takes me back I watched your video and I'm going to find a copy for myself on ebay. Thanks a lot.
omg! my favorite of all time right here!! i have played this game so much my my nintendo froze.
Mine too!!!!
This reminds my so much of of dad 🕊... thank u for posting this 👍🏾
Amazing how my mind remembers the strategy as it is playing out. Also, I think the reved up engine sounds like the car in the movie The Wraith (another 80's gem).
Wow my favorite childhood game I haven't seen it since I was a child 😲😲😲 damn things have really changed,
But I'm glad I'm getting older though....Respect✔️ Good Shit💯
I absolutely loved this game when I was younger.
You, my friend are a CHAMPION!!!! SUPERB
The theme song haunts me randomly to this day.
Also was this the blueprint for Mario Kart? So many similarities!
I forgot all about this game!! I loved it so much! I need to get it back now
The sound fx on this are amazing.
The title screen suddenly popped in my head out of nowhere and for the love of me i couldn't remember the name or even the fact it was a game with RC cars, all i remember were the two cars on the screen from my childhood, and i finally found it. What a amazing rush of nostalgia
Too many memories this video made me smile
Love...LOVED this game! This and Excitebike were mybtwo favorite games for Nintendo Console
I remember watching my older brother play this. It's one of my earliest memories of a video game.
I didn´t know that it was made by Rare!
Wow so many memories. I loved this game!!
Legend. never gets old.
I remember playing this with my bro alot, we arent into racing games but we love those that had power ups and weapons.
This game was brutal!!
7:02 got me to spit out my coffee in hilarity.
Race 5 they almost got you but the shotgun blast was perfect on the green and orange. I love seeing real plays of this game it's gets exciting cause the opportunity to lose is always there
I still remember this game. Unmatchable ❤️❤️❤️
Cool... I enjoy viewing RC Pro Am
I remember when my dad bought me the NES. After 6 months he told me "you can choose 2 games", so we went to the store and there was a lot of games, I chose Mike Tyson Punch Out and I chose (for his cover) R.C. PRO AM without knowing anything about the game. Boy, both game were awesome but tough as nails.
Thanks Dad for those great gifts.
Rock n' Roll Racing is personally my favorite retro isometric racing game, but I can see they clearly got their inspiration from this.
nostalgia ....tuve este juego en 1994 al principio mas de lo que perdia que lo qye ganaba inolvidable
BEAUTIFUL!
One of my all time favorite games!!
Spent countless hours playing this game. It says 32 tracks of fun. I finally reached 32 tracks thinking I beat the game. But it continues on after that until you can no longer win. Lol in a sense I did beat the game. So much fun!
The first several seconds (before the race begins) sounds like the beginning of Major Tom by Peter Schilling, which is a song about space travel.
You are Amazing at this game!🔥🔥
i remember level 24 from my childhood. i was like 10 years old when i got this for christmas back in 1988 and got that far. i just dont remember if i beat it or not though. but that dont matter considering i topped the game 12 years ago.
The first job I ever had was at Pike Nurseries in Forrest Park GA in 1989. I bought this game with one of my first paychecks. What memories....
The game that got me into racing games on christmas of 95 when i was 3yrs old
Damn. Way better than I was at this game 🤦🏻♂️😂 The intro music still fires me up! 😎🤙🏽 I was hoping this would be on that little mini Nintendo with all the games stored on it but it’s not haha sucks.
I used to play this game when I was like 10 years old 30 years ago. I bought my Nintendo at 1989 for $109 I was 8 years old.
Why is this so satisfying to watch?
One of my earliest goals in life i can remember was spelling NINTENDO in this game. Oh man the memories!
The blue car speeds up when you get far enough ahead of it, and slows down when it gets the lead. so in a longer race you may wish to let it pas you when you are a lap or two away from winning so it will slow down again, and allow you to pass later.
I use to rent this game a lot from the local video store on weekends. Great times
Wow! Mad Skills!
That guitar bass is hitting hard.
Loved this game it was so much fun
Damn... right in the childhood :(
This reminds me FORZA 7 but not. Ha. Man, this video brings back memories! Wow! Awesome
Lol I remember the anxieties of the other cars catching up when ur in the lead!
This Game brings me back.
Sweet had my buddy buy this for me at a antique store
Someone needs to send this game to Arin and Danny (the game grumps). It would be comedy gold.
My brother loved this game so much!!!
very awesome!
WELL PLAYED!!
My Favorite RC racing NES game my childhood teenage years of 1989 90's !!!👍
amazing memories with this one. the nes was soooooooo fun.
That was some awsome !)
I would challenge this guy to see who is the best at RC Pro Am. I could keep going until I got tired of playing. Great game.
Dudes got mad skills with those rockets
when you hear that bleep blip bloop you know that car is going haywire!
No way!!! So cool!!
