She is vastly underappreciated. Her early stuff and her other band Marriages are great dark music. Kind of like a really dark metalish version of Tori.

The drop you describe at 8:46 is probably the result of the residual resonance from an ebow (or possibly the hollowbody feeding back). The note isn't actually fretted, its a slide harmonic. Used a lot by Ben Sharp of Cloudkicker as well for conjuring extramusical aeroplane motifs.

Everything Emma does and is part of is pure gold. Add to that the sonic wave of reverb and delay from Jay's slide guitar work, the choice of drum textures and bass lines... it's haunting and alluring, dark and moody, a perfect compliment and serves the song so well.

Discovered her live in 2010 when she played in Red Sparowes (saw them live in Paris at the time).
She stole the show for me, so I started following her.
When she launched a Kickstarter for her first solo release, Electric Guitar I, I immediately backed it.
Since then I've seen her live multiple times, and a number of her albums are among my favorite pieces of music ever.

  • @Doofkopf12345

Things not lining up perfectly can be attributed to the following things, that are just unavoidable when doing live sessions like this:
When shooting live sessions like this, you usually do a live take with lots of wide shots.
Then you do individual takes with closeups of all the band members.
All this is then edited together to look like one performance.
So live sessions are actually live takes, but video and audio may not be from the same take.
Pair that with video editors that aren‘t necessarily musicians themselves and things may not align perfectly.

On top of being a great musician, Emma is a beautiful soul. I once gave her one of my ambient live-looping record (she just released one herself) and she wanted to give me her vinyl in return.. and since I don't have a record player, I left with a T-Shirt.. I mean.. who does that ? :) So glad you're doing this.
I'm pretty sure it's 100% live and I don't see anything happening that tells other wise. When he does the slide going down motion, the note turn to feedback (on purpose: he's really close to the amp and plays a semi-hollow) so we hear the harmonics, which sounds like separated notes.

@@bnjmnmrtn360"same people who think this is music" meaning Emma's music? Mate, I live for music and she's amazing. I think you need to open your mind to appreciate dark, raw, emotive songwriting. Also you seem to equate liking this kind of music with political correctness which is just the most asinine thing I've ever heard of in my life. Myself and one of the other biggest ERR fans I know both hate political correctness. I think you should remove your head from your ass a bit, lighten up, and learn to enjoy new music man

Very cool sound! Reminds me of early Swervedriver, and Mazzy Star, and Trinity Sessions-era Cowboy Junkies, and the second half of the Singles Soundtrack version of Smashing Pumpkins’ Drown. Just my uneducated opinion, but I know what I like and I found myself wanting her vocals more prominent and not easily buried under the waves of (good) noise, but its some ear strain to stay with her vocals which I felt would have benefitting from being more present in the middle of those waves that came and buried her voice. Just my opinion. I like it, but could have liked it more if the mix were a bit different. I assume it was an artistic choice vs unintended mix? But wouldn't have been my 1st choice.
