I’ve owned my 2005 Evo 8 gsr in Rally Red since 2008, and just hit 106K miles last month. I’ve been daily driving it for the past 10 years and it’s been amazing. It took me 2 years to find a stock Evo...only had 23k miles at the time. This is the most informative video I’ve ever seen on buying an Evo. Good job!
Bought my 2006 MR new. Got it tuned at EIP in San Jose and it picked up about 30 whp. Just turned 30,000 miles and aside from tires, just regular maintenance. I never race, but I don't drive like an old lady either. The car attracts a lot of attention from people who know cars. I plan to keep it forever. Life is too short for boring cars.

Had brand new 03 Evo 8. Brand new Evo 8 RS. RS was fully build. And also had used modded 2008 X. Which was a pain in the ass! Best way is to start fresh, with low miles. Evo 8 and 9 is more raw. The X is more luxury and can be fast, but making serious power and easier to work on is the 8,9 for example turbo location. I'm still thinking to buy another X but with super low miles and fully stock. It's harder to find the 9. And I'd like to see one in person. Btw. 2008 Evo and below had stickers on each panel , that way you know it's never been hit. Hood. Fenders. Doors. Rear trunk. Fenders. Yet evos are pretty cheap to modify and to fast compared to other cars out there. Including fixing them. Great video btw. Cheers
Agreed but stock is getting harder to find especially low miles. But as proven I’ll still take stock over modded even if it means higher miles. Maybe you should stop selling them! Ha obviously you come back
In 2007 the evo 9 SE was released. Although technically not a new car but I guess that was Mitsu’s way to refresh the 9 I own a 9 RS and love it. I daily drive it and it has been extremely fun. Honestly if I could afford another car project I would probably go for the 8 since it’s cheaper but I contemplate a X MR as a new daily.
Name User Truthfully I have only locked up the brakes once. It was still on stock pads and rotors due to an idiot who decided to slam on their brakes. It stayed pretty straight with no real issue. Now I run Stop Tech sport pads and slotted rotors and it’s pretty good other the the occasional pad material transfer which makes it feel like I have warped rotors lol
Thank you for the information, I’ve always loved evos , never really knew much about them always loved them tho. I remember always buying them in need for speed games , gran tarismo .
Hi, I'm a newbie of driving, but I really like the Evo 9 and I don't have another car. I wanna let Evo 9 become my first car. Do you think it's worth it for me to buy an Evo 9 for regular driving?
Wow! This video is gold. Thank you very much. 9s are pretty rare in Norway. They are at like 55k+usd. Even tho I love the 9, I probably going to try to get an 8 for my first. They are around at 35k-40k here.
I'd like to hear you go into more details about your philosophy on purchasing cars via credit instead of cash. Can you go into more details about your credit union and how you personal finance the vehicles you purchase?
really great informative video dude. I've been looking at an '12 Evo X and I've been wondering whether to pay cash or finance because I've always been told just paying cash is better, but you made really strong points about that that cleared up my way of thinking. But otherwise great stuff dude! Subbed
Guys it’s an evo, it’ll give you problems but it’s a racecar, you’ll still love it but yeah get them you can easily build them and beat other cars haha but 7,8,9 is the best 🤣‼️🤟🏽
Holy shit, these Evos are so cheap Stateside. Over here in Kenya, a stock 10 from 2008/9 will cost you around $22,000+ while 8's and 9's run between $18,000 and $35,000. Funny how things are more expensive in poorer countries, while financing is more expensive and incomes are lower. That said, we're lucky as we get JDM units and some UK FQs for import. Thanks for the video.
Also don't forget that the Evo 8 MR has a higher top speed and will actually go over 175 mph stock. I did that in my RR 2005 RS. The Evo 9 and Evo X will be limited to 155 despite having more torque. There were only 300 Evo 8 RS for the States. 150 Evo 9 RS for the States due to only one model year. Also there were only 1000 Evo 8 MR and 1500 Evo 9 MR for the States. The Evo X was better at handling but it was slower than the Evo 9 due to weight. I've owned a 8rs, 8mr, 10gsr and now the proud owner of a 9mr!
@@willsanders187 so which one i should buy, for u which one is the best just no evo 10 i dont like him xD i mean he is good but is not evo hart i mean engine..
You think An Evo 9 GSR may be Good to me if i use it to go to college? Cause u know its fun drive it that sound i love it. the car is amazing but for daily driving and having some fun u think it's a good decision?
I own a FBO evo x GSR for 4 years. Clutch, R. diff, and wear and tear. Probably costed me 4k to replace those. I drove it for about 50k miles. I miss it everyday.
A very critical point missed in the video about the Evo X - driving dynamic is VERY different thanks to its torque vectoring rear diff (MMC calls it S-AWC ). You can look it up, but to put it on layman's terms, driving an X through corners becomes virtually effortless as the rear diff (AYC) actively distributes torque to the wheel with the most grip. An AWD car can feel like it momentarily transforms into a RWD car and oversteers for you when you need it. Then it compensates when you start slipping. Totally unlike what a mechanical rear diff does; its something that has to be experienced. And to this day it's still unreal when that "torque vectoring moment" occurs and the system engages. Makes driving the X in a "sane" fashion very difficult when you see a corner up ahead.
How is it with the older evo's ( i live in germany)? Would you recommend building an evo 4, 5 or 6 for bigger horsepower (500-600)? where are the big differences between the older and the newer ones when your'e looking for power. I ask that because you really monstly see 8s 9s and 10s on youtube making big power which confuses me a bit because in fact enginewise they are the same as the newer models :) you'd really help me out with an answer on this comment thank you love your content 👍
Hey hello to Germany! The internet is so cool that we get to converse like this. You bring up some good points and while we unfortunately don’t have any Evo’s prior to the 8 I think your ideas make complete sense. I think the RUclips issue is 2 fold. 1- newer Evo’s are more popular... therefore more views. 2 - in my experience a lot of RUclipsrs are US based; again nothing prior to the 8. Appreciate the support! If you do decide to build an Evo definitely let me know!
will sanders thanks for the quick answer i only wanted to know if i might haven't thought about something important on the older models but i also think it is how you mentioned. Most Evo content really comes from the US and i guess I'm not the only one from europe thinking about building an older model. But now I know and i'll let you know when i start my project:) keep up the great content👍
I thought about buying an Evo 1 being legal now in US but idk just seems too old but and Evo 4/5/6 makes total sense. Thanks for the kind words! Good luck!
Personally I say the Evo 4/5/6 are the best evos, you mostly see 8/9 because that was what the US got. 4/5/6 has the same engines as the 7/8/9 although the 9 has Mivec. The older evos are lighter and have the same engine. Basically if you want a fast fun car go 4/5/6... if you want more of a daily driver go 8/9 (has better interior)
So does this mean that an RS is really for racing specs. MR with slight tune with a little addition performance. GSR is like the stock and low end evo with no MIVEC. Is this true? I mean I'm trying to buy an EVO9 and the mods that I probably made is a little tune to the performance. Maybe doing something with the turbo lag. Idk much or anything about modification so I open to suggestion. Thanks for the help
One day ill buy one, hopefully. I live in alaska, all evos or stis that come up for sale are heavily modded, high mileage, rec tittle and still are asking full clean retail price 😥
If you buying evo jus make sure its been serviced whelk and no rust if you’re going for a highest horsepower Evo make sure it’s a five speed because Limitado any evil you get your going to have to put money into it on maintenance such as wheelbearings and other things
I think it's funny people who charge $5-10K more selling a car with bolt-ons automatically thinking it improves value or they'll want you to pay extra to buy back the stock parts they pulled off the car
Hey bro great video ! I know it’s been a while since you uploaded this but I am recently in the market for an evo 8/9 and I found one that is a very good deal with only 70k miles but it has an SRS light occasionally turning on. Should I be alarmed of this ? I know it could mean faulty airbags but idk If that is entirely true considering it comes and goes ? Thank you!
Great video. I do have a question. Im young, and not really familiar with the technical side of cars (yet). Is there a good like "checklist" you would recommend for things to look for? Like you said cold start, receipts if its modded. Im just kinda afraid to get something because im so inexperienced.
I have driven all working part time with my brothers friend importing evos from Japan and my brother is a mechanic and the best there is , is the Evo 3 rs and evo 4 rs
What's the BEST EVO (I love all evo years) for BOTH driving and modifying/tuning? I was thinking about the 8 but what's your opinion? (Planning to live in Japan so I'll buy one there). Thanks!
In Japan I don’t really know. In the US the 8 is the best for modding and the 10’s are the best for daily driving. I’d say the later holds true in Japan but the former probably is the 7 or 6 maybe I really don’t know. Older cars cost more to have there too I think 🤔
Your video is very helpful. I just sold my 240sx that I’ve owned for five years and I’m planning on getting an evo 8 or 9. Those cars are a little hard to come by from where I live. In the meantime I’ll continue to save up when the time comes.
@@apexcentra4018the EVO that im looking at is a 2006 EVO 9 SE 5 speed manual transmission. What kind of trouble am i looking at with that type o mileage? Please advise
Yeah I see most people adding stuff without tuning them an blowing them up, or launching them an blowing the t case. But overall if you do it right an drive it respectively, the car is a beast an will last. !!
I picked mine up for 18k, 103k miles, one owner an only had a greddy exhaust. Find one thats not too modded an youll be good. 8 or 9 is a good choice, just stay away from the 6 speed trans or swap it to a 5 speed like I did. Also evolutionm.net.. Follow me on IG @punchlinejswaps
Evom is a good forum. The prices vary for many reasons. A lot of them have very visible issues if you know what to look for. Also, the 05 differs a lot from the 04 and 03. Lastly, the ixs hold higher value
High risk with possible high reward. Auctions typically Caine from dealers getting rid of cars or bank repossession. So, while they can be perfectly good cars they can also be a mess that someone got rid of. I would just make sure it’s an awesome deal to cover the potential problems
Should a buy and evo 9 MR 133k miles that has a 6 speed transmission rebuilt with carbon syncro's and new trans internals, It also has ETS 3.5 Intercooler with lower ICP, and Injen upper ICP. Electronic Boost Controller, Stealth high flow cat and MAP o2 Open dump, and 2.5 Downpipe for 15k?
Hard to say on paper it looks ok. Some of those mods are not what I would choose which makes me question their judgement. May mean nothing; may mean everything.
will sanders Yeah man I’ve been thinking about it for a while and like you said it may mean nothing or may mean everything. I was going to buy a stock evo for 16k off a dealership I just needed to sign the contract and it was mine but the owner of the dealership sold it behind my back. Hopefully I get one soon 🙏🏼 Need to look carefully for the one. Thanks anyways! Appreciate it
So, basically.. for a guy that is currently saving for one and plans on giving it some modifications over the years (it wouldn´t be my daily), it would be prop. best to look for evo 8 gsr. I found pretty cheap evo 8 mr 340, but i´m not sure why´s the price so low. Also, i´m affraid of the 6 speed transmission. :/
Just for fun, i browsed autotrader for evos and prices are up. I should stop daily driving and garage my 2014 X GSR with SSS package and just used it on weekend fun drives.
Meh depends. I can promise you cars as an investment are almost always terrible so do what makes you happy. When your old who wants to think back on how they sold their low mileage Evo for a few grand more versus all the crazy sh*t they did in their Evo
Should I buy an 05 evo 8 that 100k miles and the owner has a 272 cam in to it and a few supporting mods and a fully built head, it has a rebuilt title but he’s asking $12,500 for it and he doesn’t have the ac bolted up, is that A good deal for an evo of that sort ?
I want an Evo X someday lol. I'm still in college but someone with minimal driving experience really shouldn't have an Evo as a first car lmao. Fortunately Evo X's are still depreciating so in 5-7 years when I've saved up enough money I can possibly own one.
So if I want a Evo that looks like an MR which what I mean by that is having the vortex generators and that stuff I should just buy it after market and install it on a GSR? Another question I heard that the MR’s hood an fenders are lighter because they have different metals, would this make a difference from the gsr or the se Evo 9? Right now there’s a Evo 9 mr that’s selling for 32,999 and it’s bone stock except for a exhaust and it has a Europe break light on the rear bumper. It has only 36,000 miles and it’s dark grey from the factory. It’s in Illinois and I live in. California. Like I said the only reason why I want an mr of because of the lighter hood and fenders, the boost gauges that came stock with the MR and the bbs wheels. I’m barley gonna turn 16 this November and I’m hoping of buying one when I graduate in 2020. I hope you can clear this up and if the MR for 32,999 I listed is worth it or not or should I get a SE for the 5 speed transmission
PLEASE someone help i want to buy evo but wheere i live there is only 1 evo for last 10 months and i am afraid to go on because its modified with built engine the parts are : 1) built engine with stoker 2.3l and seller says built with tomie parts . 2)ecu motec m800. 3)tein mono flex coilovers. 4)turbo gtx3076 gen 2. 5)clutch master 850 twin light. 5 gear manual. 6)Diaphragms .. its evo 9 gsr comfort with about 65km on it, keep in mind i really dont know thing about the parts and its the only evo out there, its only uses 98 gas please tell should i give it a try, and the seller says its very well maintained with best oils filters and so on ... #@will sanders any opinion please thanks
Hey man great video, so instead of saving up for another year n buying a 20k evo 9 I should lean towards a credit union ? N find one cash? Maybe even negotiate on the price too

what do you think about buying a high mileage 2010 evo gsr? im talking about 160k plus kms on it. but completely stock tho? thinking about getting one early 2019.
Great video!! I've been wanting to buy an Evo 8/9 for years. I've noticed the prices have not dropped. I should buy one this year before the prices start going up. Wife's friend's boyfriend let me drive his 8 about 2 weeks ago in turn i let him drive my Silverado SS, I've got that itch for turbo power again.
Idk where you live but since you said Silverado I’m assuming US? You’re right about them not dropping. In fact US prices have actually been rising slightly the last couple years. They are very addictive cars
Looking into buying a Evo X. Cannot decide between GSR or MR. MR is getting lots of bad rep because of the transmission AND if I buy a GSR, I would need to learn a manual. Any thoughts?
My X video will be live tonight or tomorrow morning but my opinion is I loved the MR transmission and would have no problem owning another. I think it’s still a good idea to learn a manual though!
I just picked up a "GSR" evo, we call it a cj lancer here in australia. I test drove the dual clutch Evo and was bored out of my mind. Manual hands down mate!
i am so totally confused here.if money allowed i would go for an evo X mr,so am looking at IX mr,only to hear gsr is better?just saw an evo X gsr going for USD$12000,sweet deal.BUT is evo x better than ix in performance?please help
Sorry for late reply! See latest videos for explanation. X’s are still new enough that they are depreciating whereas IX’s are stable if not rising. 12k for a X concerns me that’s really cheap. GSR IX is better value; both are good
I think I wish we had it here ha. 5 was the mid evolution of the 2nd generation. So... I’m inclined to think it’s similar to the 6 without the price premium of the 6. Someone correct me if I’m wrong
Hey dude. Whitch evo is the best family car? I have 2 kids one is four and the other is 8 months old evo 8, 9 or x? // thanks four your vlogs, a fan from Sweden
Evo X for sure. Safer, more reliable (newer), more standard equipment. Than you for being a fan! Mostly though, thanks for not buying a crossover, just because you have kids!
Transmission issues on the ix mr are wayyyyyyyyyy overblown. My ix mr has been at 400 hp 500 tq for the last 10 years and 0 transmission issues. Also the resale factor of the ix is off the charts, bought my ix for $25k a decade ago, can get close to $25k for it today.
I know not having ABS does have a limit. We still have power brakes so we can lock up with really aggressive pads to dangerous levels. I've contemplated having the power removed. Buschur makes a kit, but it hasn't been an issue so far.The SE def had the BBS and that's what I was most upset about. O well, I kept the BBS wheels from my X MR.....
How much would you say an 2004 Evo 8 is worth? Car doesn’t have turbo kit or manifold, so doesn’t run atm. It has a built head and the paint on the car doesn’t match. It also only has 100k miles on it.
It’s been a long time since I researched aftermarket parts but HKS was never the fastest. Admittedly, them along with some other Japanese companies make some stellar looking (and fast) parts but you can get just as fast, usually faster, for a lot less. You can buy built Evo’s in the 30’s.
Using metric so obviously not in the US. Hard to say then really. Knowing nothing but mileage and price (assuming USD) then it may be ok for US market but could be an awesome, or terrible, deal in another country.
I found an Evo 8 Gsr with 14k miles for 25000 are they're any good guides to pricing that I could use to ensure I'm not over spending for a particular year or model?
They really are not problem cars. People mod them incorrectly and make them problems. Parts cost more sure and you can buy a much newer, or completely new, car for the money. As a first car it just depends on your threshold, ability and finances for fixing issues likely caused by previous owner(s)
WOW. This dude is the most informed and intelligent Evo owner I've come across. Thank you!

Truthfully I have only locked up the brakes once.
Haha that’s how we all learned of cars... video games
will sanders which evo do you prefer ?
Hi, I'm a newbie of driving, but I really like the Evo 9 and I don't have another car. I wanna let Evo 9 become my first car. Do you think it's worth it for me to buy an Evo 9 for regular driving?
no I would look for an 8
@@willsanders187 why? I don't like the triangle on the front bumper.
Wow! This video is gold. Thank you very much.
9s are pretty rare in Norway. They are at like 55k+usd. Even tho I love the 9, I probably going to try to get an 8 for my first. They are around at 35k-40k here.
Sheesh... guess that’s the price you have to pay to live in someplace so beautiful though!
Nice video Will, very informative. I've just bought my first EVO here in the UK. A 2004 Black FQ330
Thanks and awesome car man! Post some IG pics and tag me I’d love to see it!
Steve SAS How much did you pay?
I really miss my Evo 8. As soon as I pay off my current loan I am going to get another one. Nice video man
Thanks I appreciate it! Good luck on the hunt:)

I'd like to hear you go into more details about your philosophy on purchasing cars via credit instead of cash. Can you go into more details about your credit union and how you personal finance the vehicles you purchase?
@will sanders
i would like to hear more about this as well
really great informative video dude. I've been looking at an '12 Evo X and I've been wondering whether to pay cash or finance because I've always been told just paying cash is better, but you made really strong points about that that cleared up my way of thinking. But otherwise great stuff dude! Subbed
Glad it helped! Cash is always king. Keep it whenever you can.
Guys it’s an evo, it’ll give you problems but it’s a racecar, you’ll still love it but yeah get them you can easily build them and beat other cars haha but 7,8,9 is the best 🤣‼️🤟🏽
Well said!
Yea the world is funny that way. There’s just less cool cars than there is rich people so prices go up. I’d love to have more lenient import laws!
Ya
Also don't forget that the Evo 8
MR has a higher top speed and will actually go over 175 mph stock.
You have a problem. Trust me I recognize the symptoms
cant find an 8 or 9 tahts going for less than 17-18k. only ones i can find close to 15 are auto evo X's :/
15 is a hard number for these cars. Just to be clear though the auto is actually a dual clutch transmission that's . pretty sweet.
Great review. Much love from New Zealand
Much appreciated
I love how you put up the WRX for a brief second when talking about modding lmao
Gotta get the jabs when you can
Excellent review & advice !
Thanks for the interesting informative video.
Q: was your Evo 8 RS came with stock steel wheels?
I want to buy an evo 7 is that bad cuz nobody tell somthing about him?
No, in fact they are awesome (at least from what I can tell). Same generation as the 8 and 9.
@@willsanders187 so which one i should buy, for u which one is the best just no evo 10 i dont like him xD i mean he is good but is not evo hart i mean engine..

not in the us
You think An Evo 9 GSR may be Good to me if i use it to go to college? Cause u know its fun drive it that sound i love it. the car is amazing but for daily driving and having some fun u think it's a good decision?
I had an Evo 9 GSR in college. Good way to make college even more overpriced hahah but it was fun
@@willsanders187 hahaha Ok Thanks firts youtuber that reply new sub 💖
Really? That’s terrible! I’m far from perfect but I try to respond to questions albeit a bit slow at times
Answer for the thumbnail: Definitely yes
Why? People nowadays treat these kind of rally cars are supercars
Pretty much. Values seem to have leveled and are going up
I own a FBO evo x GSR for 4 years. Clutch, R. diff, and wear and tear. Probably costed me 4k to replace those. I drove it for about 50k miles. I miss it everyday.
Hopefully not the first 50k
I just liked watching the little display tell me which wheels were getting power
All evos since the evo 4 have torque vectoring. It’s only in the USA they don’t have it because your evos are neutered versions
Nicholas Seeto your'e absolutely right dude:)
RS is more race geared where GSR is everyday amenities. MR is kinda both together
what different between EVO9 MR and EVO9 GSR?
evo 10 has torque vectoring right? doesnt that make a massive improvement for handling when you have high hp?
I think it helps regardless the hp
One day ill buy one, hopefully. I live in alaska, all evos or stis that come up for sale are heavily modded, high mileage, rec tittle and still are asking full clean retail price 😥
Well I mean... Alaska 🤷♂️. Kinda the price you pay ha. Need to just come to the lower 48 and drive one back
So what are the best years and performance between the lancer and Subaru???
Can’t say for Subaru’s but Evos are probably 03-05
If you buying evo jus make sure its been serviced whelk and no rust if you’re going for a highest horsepower Evo make sure it’s a five speed because Limitado any evil you get your going to have to put money into it on maintenance such as wheelbearings and other things
I think it's funny people who charge $5-10K more selling a car with bolt-ons automatically thinking it improves value or they'll want you to pay extra to buy back the stock parts they pulled off the car
Best case mods don’t lower value in my opinion. Maybe if you happen to have the EXACT mods/ brands I planned to buy
@@willsanders187 they do lower value since the engine has had more power put through it, increasing wear. same thing as increasing milage.
Good points generally people who mod drive harder despite them always say they don’t haha
Thank you!
sorry just saw this. msg me on IG ThatWillSanders if you have questions still
Awesome video! How come with the MR you say to expect to change the transmission? Is there something that goes wrong with it?
if you're hard on it i.e. autoX or racing it just isn't as strong. As a normal car it's fine
Great video. I do have a question. Im young, and not really familiar with the technical side of cars (yet). Is there a good like "checklist" you would recommend for things to look for? Like you said cold start, receipts if its modded. Im just kinda afraid to get something because im so inexperienced.

Sorry I'm so behind on comments but I bought mine with 120k. Mileage doesn't matter so much as overall care, condition and up keep.
I own a 2005 Evo 8 MR in 2018. Just bought it a few months ago actually.
Best fkn car ive owed ! Im making 460hp with basic bolt ons an a good tune.
Yep! Super easy to mod. Unfortunately, that’s what causes a lot of issues for people who mess them up. Enjoy it!!
Yeah I see most people adding stuff without tuning them an blowing them up, or launching them an blowing the t case. But overall if you do it right an drive it respectively, the car is a beast an will last. !!
Hey guys im about to pick up an 8 or 9 .... but the prices are all over the price .... can you point me to an evo forum and also great work✊️
I picked mine up for 18k, 103k miles, one owner an only had a greddy exhaust.
What do you thing a buying evo in auction? i am talking about 8 or 9 models.
High risk with possible high reward. Auctions typically Caine from dealers getting rid of cars or bank repossession. So, while they can be perfectly good cars they can also be a mess that someone got rid of. I would just make sure it’s an awesome deal to cover the potential problems
@@willsanders187 would you buy evo from auction or not, its worth try to risk?
Not sure if you saw my response. Basically only if the deal could cover a lot of potential problems
Appreciate it
They sell super fast! It’s like 1964 you sleep in the car if you have too!
That’s a mustang reference btw
Can you daily drive an evo 8/9? I found a clean evo 8 mr for about 23k. It's really great but I'm not sure if I can daily drive it.
So you’re obviously in Europe and I think more models there have the 6-speed. I wouldn’t let it stop me.
@@willsanders187 Alright, thanks for response... do you feel like 5 speed swap is worth it or just wait if something goes wrong?
What is the opinion on JDM Evo IV’s? Found one for $6500 CAD.

Ah.... simple times.
Was wondering why did you convert back to the evo 8/9 when you had the 10?
was it a bad car or anything?

I know not having ABS does have a limit. We still have power brakes so we can lock up with really aggressive pads to dangerous levels. I've contemplated having the power removed. Buschur makes a kit, but it hasn't been an issue so far.The SE def had the BBS and that's what I was most upset about. O well, I kept the BBS wheels from my X MR.....
How much would you say an 2004 Evo 8 is worth? Car doesn’t have turbo kit or manifold, so doesn’t run atm. It has a built head and the paint on the car doesn’t match. It also only has 100k miles on it.
There’s a lot of uncertainty here. Doesn’t run, missing parts, and likely been wrecked. With only this knowledge I’d say only a few thousand.
I've been seeing a Evo 9 SE with high end parts such as HKS with 50k miles for $39,000. Is it even worth it?
It’s been a long time since I researched aftermarket parts but HKS was never the fastest. Admittedly, them along with some other Japanese companies make some stellar looking (and fast) parts but you can get just as fast, usually faster, for a lot less. You can buy built Evo’s in the 30’s.
Short answer is no it’s not to me.
what am I looking for in terms of price range when I'm looking for an evo? I'm looking at an evo 9 for 20k at around 130k km. think it's reasonable?
Using metric so obviously not in the US. Hard to say then really. Knowing nothing but mileage and price (assuming USD) then it may be ok for US market but could be an awesome, or terrible, deal in another country.
I found an Evo 8 Gsr with 14k miles for 25000 are they're any good guides to pricing that I could use to ensure I'm not over spending for a particular year or model?
Low mileage cars are harder to judge. Depends on year, mods, condition and rather or not it’s original
Will I am thinking of getting a evo 9 for my first car is it worth all the problems it brings with buying the car
They really are not problem cars. People mod them incorrectly and make them problems. Parts cost more sure and you can buy a much newer, or completely new, car for the money. As a first car it just depends on your threshold, ability and finances for fixing issues likely caused by previous owner(s)
