I have a 2015 MINI Cooper S Countryman, and I live in the same city that NM Eng is in, so I went directly to them to buy this set up. I installed it in the first week of August 2016, and felt a HUGE difference in the off the line and passing acceleration of the car that same day. And now having that paired up with the JB+ PNP unit and the Sprint Booster for the throttle, my MINI feels like it can take on almost anything on the road. This NM Eng open air filter is fantastic and a great way to start the "Mod" process.
To everyone thinking about buying an intake like this, do yourself a favor and buy an aem intake instead, it makes the hood scoop functional and directly pulls cold air from outside instead of sucking up hot engine air.
would it be recommended to add a catch can on the countryman s as well to reduce the amount of oil entering the turbo and enhance performance and life of the turbo?
Might damage maf sensor through time due to filter weight..only few mm when attached to clamp; heat exposure of filter might just be an issue too on city driving
I just bought one of these but now I am curious what the advantage of this is over something like what k&n offers. that kit still has the cold air funneled into the intake as opposed to disconnecting that pipe and just leaving it there. also why use double sided tape? I would be interested to see someone who is running this after a couple months that still has this on there. I like the look a lot but I am now questioning the functionality.
+Alex Napier I'm sure the K&N kit is similar in performance. If you have an issue with the tape you could of course secure it any other way you would like - it is an aftermarket kit, after all :-)
For the 2012 + with the N18, there is an edge that mounts on the lower section of the ECU, making it quite sturdy. And I added a little 3M aircraft tape, which is cannon proof. The hesitation off the line is gone. And RPM acceleration is lightning quick in manual shift mode. Good mod so far. Nom nom nom...
wow i cant believe that anyone thinks installing an air filter like that is a good idea , i mean why on this earth would you put it at the back on the engine bay where it is constantly pulling hot air, the factory one was better as it had a factory cold air feed from the front. me personally would of just installed a sports panel air filter in the factory air box unless you are up for cutting holes for bigger better cold air feeds for the air filter to breath from.
Above 20 mph, this system provides the same temperature of air as the factory system (this information is in the product description if you follow the link). This is because the cold air intake isn't removed, but is left in place. This system utilizes this air, but also a great deal more air from within the engine bay. Bottom line is that it is a much more efficient design than the restricted factory type.
It serves the same function as it did before, it's just not clamed together with a inefficient filtering system. It still serves to draw air into the engine bay so it should be left in place.

Yes, that's correct. The cold air intake is left unconnected sitting just below the new filter set up.

The Countryman doesn't have a hood scoop
Not legal in California of course🤦🏻♂️
It is. It is the highest quality double stick tape on the market today.
Does the old cold air intake still push air towards the upgraded filter?
You just leave the cold air intake right there?
It does - it just no longer feeds directly into the stock air box.

+pman562 Absolutely - a catch can is always recommended for boosted engines.

What are the chances of water intrusion?
what do i clean the filter with? what type of oil do i use? my cousin got a mini cooper with this installed already.

thank you
Double stick tape is considered high quality?
The aircraft tape is.

what garbage... doens't make use of the 1 source of actual cold air sucking up hot engine air, and relying on a 2 sided piece of tape to hold.
can you take the fresh air intake tube out? what good does it do just sitting there?
