Just an FYI: this engine is a 1.6 THP - a fruit of BMW and PSA cooperation. In Europe it is often found in range of Citroen and Peugeot models. Direct fuel injection and twin-scroll turbo are just a couple of features that helped this power plant win The International Engine of The Year award in 2007 and held it till 2015 (1.4 - 1.8 category). I am using its turbo and turbo manifold in my NA to turbocharged project (Citroen C2 VTS). Proper DIY content, good job Milan.
I currently have the same problem with the water pipe leaking coolant. I couldn’t get it to seal on properly due to lack of space. Your video actually helped me out, thank you!
I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S, they are hard to work on. I did not want a mini but I learned to love it. My car is paid off but I still invested a lot of money after my transmission started slipping gears. I just wish I could work on my mini like you!
this is the exactly project I want to do, so nice I found a good quality and teaching video series for when it comes the time I have the money to do it.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS FOR EVER!!!! my R56 has a terrible coolant leak but i just havent had the time to replace it. i want to upgrade the system. i think that the plastic parts are shit! thank you so much for the video!!!
for 60/40 ratio, it has to be 3.78L coolant, 2.52L water, total of 6.3L. 60% of 6.3L is 3.78L 40% of 6.3L is 2.52L Not 1.5L of water. To make it easy to calculate for the ratio, divide 60 by 40 to get 1.5, then divide the amount of coolant (3.78L in this case) by the 1.5. This will give you 2.52L which is how much water you need. Will work for all ratios.
The OEM water piping is less reinforced for a reason. Ideally, as the hose ages, it can expand a bit without having a blow out. You dont want to use silicone piping for coolant the same way you dont want to use worm clamps on them. Theyre so restrictive the line is alot more likely to break.
It would actually be not too bad because you can move the entire engine/trans forward a few inches because the subframe can slide :) Neat feature with these things.
Hey did you disconnect the battery at all, I’m afraid to because I had the whole motherboard go bad from a jump start or a battery change… minis computer has so many sensors we need disconnected on this job…. Please LMK THANKS
Silicone hoses have been proven to be more of an issue than factory many times over. Factory hoses are very good on an R56. Replace the pump t stat and crossover pipe and you should be good.
Just changed my heat exchanger gasket and turbo oil feed line because I have oil leaks. I can say it is a pain in the ass to put the car in service radiator position. I have a R 56 N 14 engine from 2008. And also rust is starting to show. Only on the headlight I lost 4 of the screws because they got stuck on the bushing and melt the plastic. Anyway be prepared because is not as simple as you see in RUclips 😁
Great video. Can you tell me please the water pipe from the thermostat to the water pump, How is it secured? Is it a pull out clip same as the thermostat end? Thanks buddy..
It is sandwiched between the passenger side of the engine block, and the thermostat on the other side of the block. You have to more the thermostat do replace it.
Ηey dude really nice video...just wondering where can I find an expansion tank and a hose kit for a Peugeot 207 GT 1,6 THP ? Really looking forward to installing one.
I was looking for a metal version of that water pipe and the thermostat. Hate these plastic cooling parts. Nobody makes it. Tons of ppl have problems with those parts
I'm doing the exact same thing to my 2009 JCW. I like that you took off the intake manifold to get more room. I think I will do that too and while its off remove the carbon from the intake valves. I really like that water pump. Where did you pick that up?
@@parvb Sorry for the late reply. I am pretty much still doing this same mod. Just my coolant hoses are Blue generic (ebay). I have the intercooler and all the intake tubes to replace just like this video. On top of this video I took off the intake manifold and already cleaned the carbon off the valves with a solvent a pick and some brass brushes. That actually only takes a few hours to do and is not very difficult and should restore performance and fuel mileage if I ever finish this project! I am going to do the noise maker delete and I have a more tapered charge pipe that helps spool up the turbo a bit quicker that I have been running for a long time (the inlet turbo pipe on these cars breaks at about 50K miles so just do it. I have the Alta spring that helps you retain boost. I have a forge blow off valve seat that keeps the stock valve but blows off to the engine bay so you can hear it better. The stock blow off valves fail pretty early too, and so does the high pressure fuel pump so keep an eye on that stuff. The stock JCW intake is actually pretty good so that is stock. I am in California so I cant go too overboard on this or it wont pass smog. For suspension I have the Bilstien sport struts that are shorter than stock on NM springs. I have a 20mm rear bar on urethane bushings (which creak bad, need to fix that). I have adjustable rear control arms. I am going to put in front urethane bushings and also redo the control arm bushings in urethane as well. I stiffened up to lower motor strut mount by filling the gaps with silicon. It was worn out so now it makes it shift more positively. Pretty much feels like new. But to get it better I might get a new arm that has solid urethane bushings. Huge project and I am a master of procrastination when I hit a snag. To make it worse I am not using a manual, just youtube videos to do this work (which is probably most of the problem right there).
i like the hose idea, but doesn't oil melt those types of hoses. i know oil is not in the coolant, but what about the inter-cooler and just changing the oil ? also with the bigger inter-cooler would that put stress on the rad/rad fan ?

How long did it take you to replace all the coolant hoses
for 60/40 ratio, it has to be 3.78L coolant, 2.52L water, total of 6.3L.
60% of 6.3L is 3.78L
40% of 6.3L is 2.52L
Not 1.5L of water.
To make it easy to calculate for the ratio, divide 60 by 40 to get 1.5, then divide the amount of coolant (3.78L in this case) by the 1.5. This will give you 2.52L which is how much water you need. Will work for all ratios.
dimeitry He now has 76% coolant and 24% water.
Somewhere around that 75/25 mark.
1.5 + 3.78 = 5.28 L total
3.78/5.28 = 71.6%
1.5/5.28 = 28.4%
