@Sienna Mobbs it’s a sensitive topic now mind you I do know that there are white people that have almond shaped eyes, but the Fox eye trend derives from the aesthetic of usually monolid upturned eyes and when someone does it to obtain that look, it’s appropriating something that a lot of Asian people have been made fun of which is tending to have small upturned slanted eyes. It’s sort of like doing the racist gesture where people pull their eyes to mimic mostly East Asian features, but in a less in your face way. It’s like a slap in the face for having something you’ve been made fun of become the new trend just because a white person (examples: Kendall Jenner & Bella Hadid) is doing it. Now I’m sure that they didn’t have any malicious intent and could of just wanted more of a “lifted” looks, but it doesn’t mean that it’s any less offensive. Additionally using this technique to achieve that look causes pre-mature aging with fine lines n wrinkles. “You might say but what about Asians that get double eyelid surgery?” It’s different in the sense that Euro-centric beauty has always been the standard not Asian beauty or Black for example when Asians immigrated to the U.S they had Asian men and women forced to get double eyelids because they looked “untrustworthy,” but nowadays it seems to be going backwards where more non people of color are appropriating other P.O.C features. I have no problem with doing the eye makeup but when it comes to purposefully having your eyes slanted, it feels a bit off-putting...
@Sienna Mobbs no don’t be sorry! I’m glad you took time to educate yourself :)))
