  • This video shows a DJI Mavic 2 Pro Active Track Test in real life conditions. The Mavic 2 Active Track 2.0 is far from perfect but has come very far. Watch Mavic 2 dodge obstacles and hopefully avoid crashing.

    That's really impressive. Only negative is it's over aggressive avoidance of objects. I think it should have a 'smooth avoidance' mode for filming so camera doesn't jerk like that.

    • @TECHDRONEMEDIA
      @TECHDRONEMEDIA  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, it pretty busy compensating, plus it's filming is auto witch does help either.

      if you are filming something important, instead of spontaneously, then scope out areas to avoid.

      I rather it be aggressive than to smoothly run into a tree.

    Amazing.
    I can only imagine in the next 2-5 years how smooth this feature will be in the newer drones to come.

    • @MinerMends

      Dji wants to make this feature diff. They talked that it's pretty good as it is but they want to make the sensors of the drone be able to get even closer to obstacles withought hitting them.. like I mean 1 or 2 inches away from it. They also want faster drones for better active tracking.

    Excellent video and thanks so much!! I think most people need to have a lot of patience when dealing with these next level of drones. I don't think we can even fathom the amount of experimenting, time , and testing that go into these drones. If you compare these to the ones of three years ago, the new technology just blows my mind sometimes. I started flying about two years ago because it opened a new avenue of taking photographs and video. I am also amazed at the creativity this has unleashed in a ton of people and new techniques are being shown and shared every day. My dream set up would be an Inspire 2 like Ken Heron received ( what a lucky guy ). But, being a retired senior citizen, I would never see something like that in my future. Thanks again, happy flying, and keep up the great work.

    Thanks for the test. I think it's a good drone performance to avoid obstacles. Enough to save the pilot's mistake. I have this drone and I am satisfied. Exist better drone that has flawless options to avoid. Almost 99.8% do not crash. Skydio 2. But Mavic is well equipped to save a collision for the most part.

  • @chairhappy3838
    @chairhappy3838 5 лет назад +1

    If it loses you in active track, thats one thing, but at least it did not crash!!! The more important feature is that obstacle avoidance seems to work even with branches.

    It's great to see AT 2.0's improvements. Thank you. However, there are a lot of these types of videos, but I'm yet to see one that takes advantage of the big white slider in the middle of the screen! I want to see how others use this feature of Active Track. Most AT videos are from behind our the side, fixed at those positions. I would love to see AT circle around the subject using that slider.

    • @TECHDRONEMEDIA
      @TECHDRONEMEDIA  5 лет назад +1

      hehe, that would be quite a challenge with the route I choose. Might do a separate video on active track show off the different modes

    • @pixelvisionfr
      @pixelvisionfr 5 лет назад

      From what i saw on M2P specs in DJI Website, left and right avoidance are limited in speed, therefor, if you set a subject too far away, and have the drone circle you while active track, my guess is that angular speed will be too high and avoidance system will not work.. that most likely explains why we don't see it. Now, in close range, and without asking too much from circle while AT, maybe it can work...

    Interesting. I've been thinking about getting one to capture more interesting footage for my off roading videos. However, there is a lot of trees and branches in a lot of the places I ride so wasn't sure if a drone would work in such a complex environment. Question, how fast can it go and still avoid obstacles? Also, what did you do differently on the 2nd run where it was able to follow you? Did you lower the altitude or something? What about the other attempts where it lost you...what was different on those ones? Thanks for posting the video.

  • @commonsenselogic

    Nice. From what I have seen so far, the Mavic Air 2 with active track 3.0 would have avoided that tree branch and not lost you. But active track 2.0 is still only second to 3.0 and Skydio. Wish there was a 3.0 update for the Mavic 2.

    Could not get a clear answer from DJI , maybe you know ( or anybody else reading this )
    In active track say trace or profile , will the drone once encounter an obstacle
    A. Go around it and attempt resuming following the subject or
    B. Hover in the spot the obstacle was encountered

    • @TECHDRONEMEDIA
      @TECHDRONEMEDIA  5 лет назад

      It depends, but it will go around it and attempt resuming following if possible. if you scroll to the end of the video, you will see it trapped on the wrong side of a tree, and it will just stop and hover.

    • @chyna320
      @chyna320 5 лет назад

      Let me try a different question than , if the APAS is disabled as in when in the intelligent modes ( per DJI manual page 32 ) will the drone go around obstacles or this is what the APAS does ?

    • @TECHDRONEMEDIA
      @TECHDRONEMEDIA  5 лет назад

      It goes around obstacles without APAS enabled when it's in ActivesTrack mode as it tries to follow you. APAS help you avoid and continue around obstacles when you fly the drone.

    Pretty high risk course ... small space to avoid collision. On one side for sure impressive but on the other side at least in this course pretty useless footage due to the dancing between the height pathes ... it is not as smooth as it should be to become usefull. If the drone would evade to a lower or higher flight level the result would be far better. For most people a far too high risk to play with a 1200€ drone with risk of total loss or damage.
    5 years and it might be able to look a lot further to get a smoother evasion föight path.
