Hi there. Great review again. This time on zoom version. But my question stays the same as with pro: like is it better to grab one of those now, or maybe wait a little (like few months or so...?) Just to become perfect i gues.
But in this video you mention something like: it will never become 'perfect" because of p4p and p5???!!!

I don't know if its possible with your buddies drone, but if you could shoot the area with the red sand beach that you did with your pro as a comparison that would be outstanding. However I understand if that's impractical with a borrowed drone.

The 1080 zoom can go 96 mm I love it such a great experience when exploring with the zoom I’ll never buy another drone unless it has a zoom feature
The APAS feature on this drone is incredible! And your testing of it was amazing. Very well done flight test.
I find that when I take off and go up about 20 feet it helps with the return to home feature. I have always calibrated my drone before I take off. The Mavic 2 zoom is one of the best drones I have ever flown.
I was flying it once at about 289 feet and had a Hawk come in checking out my drone, and have a video of the bird turning away from my drone.
Damn...after seeing these flaws with some of the features. Just make me think twice about just not buying it at all. As they're just not even worth the asking price with those gimmicky features. Seriously....$1500 is a lot of dough and I expect that drone to have all the bells and whistle and perform better than the asking price. No way I'm shelling out that kind of money for a drone that only use half of the features in one area here and there.

This tech amazes me, they're flying robots. I imagine in not too long, rather than walking around with their annoying phones people will be walking around with their annoying personal drones in tail.

So I have to say having The Mavic Pro 2 and then returning it to get the phantom pro 4 v2 (this drone(phantom pro 4 v2) was a nightmare I’ve never had so many problems with a drone, I got 5 exchanges all of them had issues I do not recommend) and the giving up on the phantom I decided to go for The Mavic 2 zoom and I have to say it’s amazing!!! I surprisingly use the zoom feature a lot I keep it at 1080p which honestly is still really good video. I really recommends this drone (mavic 2 zoom)
Alberto Leon- I have the 2 Pro. Had a Zoom also and exchanged it for the Phantom 4 Pro Plus V2.0. I also had one issue after another. Returned it for another. Another set of issues. I was then over the P4P V2. Returned it and got the Zoom again. Love it and my Pro. Guess sometimes the grass isn’t greener on the other side.
I did the opposite I originally bought the mavic 2 zoom and after seeing my friends post edited videos from his mavic 2 pro I returned the zoom to bestbuy and bought the 2 pro and I love this drone .
There is no blur in my footage when I zoom in to 96mm, the zoom combines optical with digital zoom.
I'll try it in my next test 👍

Exactly, not perfect but it's a great start sn if they update there software from mavic air then thr zoom an 2 pro will have exact pin point landings
Not good enough to warrant the asking price. As you are only getting half the features on only in certain mode which defeats the whole purpose. The whole obstacle avoidance feature should've been on at all time in any flight mode for it to even be worth having on the drone. The only time it can be turn off is if you have it in full sport mode to fly in full speed where obstacle avoidance becomes pointless to be use to detect obstacle and avoid collision.
That is some terrific park you are testing the Zoom at. I am a lap swimmer opposite the skate park which in am sure your son is counting the days for that opening? What do they charge for membership at the pool???
I so regret buying the GOPRO KARMA. I spent $1,200 I could have waited and bought the ZOOM? F'me! :(
Well I am going to have to sell some things so I can afford the ZOOM. Even though GoPro sent me a new Karma after my drone on its own suddenly went out of control and landed in the ocean. I still won't fly it again. Loosing the Gimble and CAMERA isnt worth throwing away a 400 dollar camera and 75 dollar gimble. DJI #1

I just got my big Dji box dropped off and new phone will be here tomorrow! I went with the Zoom w/ racing Edition goggles and also the fly more. Going to keep the Mavic Platinum and mod it to have SUPER Speed Sport mode. Thanks for the awesome video bro, you are #1!

probably just better light than before, so better information for tracking. also, maybe it was focused better are better to say with smaller sensor, you got basically everything in focus, so less work for af etc. but i would say main reason for better id better light, so more contrast etc. try both at the same time if they can avoid themself and who will track you better lol.

I watched you a lot of times for the past week or two as well as Captain Drone. I had the money to pay for 1 of these DJI drones, but I only want to fly etc, so I have bought a Bugs 4w 4k with 3 batteries. I just really like the look of it. It was a hard decision but yeah thanks to you and cap I should have it by the beginning of next week. Can't wait lol 😁 ps is, 32gb the best way to go for drones? Cap said don't go higher. Thanks Mark and congrats on your drone. Some of the higher end 4k drones are ok with above 32gb cards but that is a safe size for most 👍

Dustin you may recall yesterday I bought the Mavic Mini in which you replied, thanks for that, but having played with it for a while I see that it has limited functions/settings. The MAVIC MINI for the money it's a great little drone fly's great, very easy even for a beginner like me. I then came across this video. Watched the whole video, then took back the Mini drone to the store and purchased the DJI Mavic 2 pro. Once again great video, editing and clarity. Top job young man.
Dustin, i just wanna hear from you, about i crashed my Mavic 2 Pro a weeks ago(3yrs after the date of purchase)on Bulk Carrier Ship side during my Ship side photo capture as the obstruction sensor did not work and continues drifting of the Mavic 2 Pro until it Crash the ship side and fall into the Sea(probably because i got slow internet connection and error that distructed downloading Firmware update thru laptop Computer). Do you think this is the cause of crashing my Mavic 2 Pro?, is it possible to use my remain Mavic 2 Pro Remote Controller to Bind/Link to Mavic 2 Zoom?. Dji Support advice me to send email to them in order to assess whether the cause of crashed is to be compensate by Dji as per After Sales Policy Rgrds & Thanks in advance to hear from you(Your long time Subscriber here/Licensed Drone Pilot)
Sorry about the crash Clint! Maybe big metal ship messing up compass, gps and sensors on drone? You can use same remote for another Mavic 2 and bind it 🍻

I never encounter problem w/ Compass, Gps because i always fly my Mavic 2 Pro in a Metal take-off procedure(raised by hand in order to have clear at least 2 meter above Metal). i calibrate the Compass prior take-off, Only thing is i should suppose abort to continue fly the Mavic 2 Pro as i observ drifting movement during initial take off in order to calibrate IMU, including update of the Firmware(as i remember Error on my last Firmware update due to Network error slow internet connection, probably one cause of my Crash). Aside from that is i have "Arris Raptor2 Water Landing Skid for Mavic 2" but i trusted not to connect since 6months, so this is a lesson learn to me, Next time, no matter what i will always connect my "Arris Raptor2 Water Landing gear for safety purposes" 🙏

Awesome, great drone, handles the wind quite nicely i see, great active track system like wow except for that small hiccup going downhill through the trees where it lost u but I can forgive that. I have not seen a better active track to date. For me the video quality was great. The zoom function in 4K was good enough, could be better. Yeah overall im impressed. Im definitely thinking of purchasing one in the hopefully near future.

Very nice tests and video. The active track is marvelous. I'm anxious to know what happens in tracking a flying object like another drone or a slowly flying RC-plane above 12mph and no obstacles in the vicinity except the target. Should M2Z keep up distance from the target above 12 mph?

I have had mine for over 3 years and it's the best for what I like to do. I know there is others out there but if you are not in the drone business just wait until I saw this one and got it.
I was in an abounded parking lot flying about 25' trying to wear a battery down when I hit a small almost invisible power line that was feeding
other parking lot lights. I looked up and all I saw was what looked liked I hit a buzzard. That was the the Mavic hitting the wire.
It broke several props and damaged the front left collision sensor.
I had State Farm insurance on it so I gathered up my drone and headed to their office. I explained what happened. The lady was very
helpful and filled out the insurance papers. She said when I get it repaired bring her the invoice and they will pay for it.
I got on the DJI website and filled out the papers to send it to Forth Worth for repair. A few days went by telling me it was being
repaired. Shortly I got an e-mail telling me it was on the way back to me. The cost was about $240.
DJI did something that really showed customer support. They sent me a brand new DJI Mavic 2 Zoom and a new set of blades.
I received in the mail a check from State Farm covering my drone. I have since changed my insurance to them, both home and
two vehicles.
I don't fly much as I would like to but when I do I enjoy the world from above.
That last set of trees was all about perspective. Avoidance detection and determent ONLY works where there is an alternative route. It DID see the obstructions and stop. The reason it did not go under there, is because it could not SEE that there was a tunnel from that perspective. WE know there is, because we have a lot more intelligence and memory. From the drones perspective going downhill, there was no tunnel because from its higher perspective all it saw was a wall of leaves, and below that, the tunnel was obscured by those same leaves, not to mention there was a lot of dark ground shade behind the leaves. I think it worked flawlessly. I would be impressed to see ANY drone pass that test at the same trees from the same angle, and same amount of leaves on the trees etc. There is a difference between simple yes no logic tied to avoidance cameras and actual AI. These drones are not programmed to commit to a search grid if they can't see a tunnel from where they are blocked. There is either a way (YES) or not a way (NO). And because you were going DOWN a steep grade, and the Trees were below the drone, there was no way that the Drone could detect a tunnel underneath the leaves, on top of which it would have to get VERY close to the ground and fly on a descending flight path to maintain that low level. Again, this is not how the logic of ANY drone works. It erred towards caution in a very complex danger frought situation AS IT SHOULD have. As the human controller, we learn the tips and tools, and adapt to their limitations. I for one, was very impressed, and not at all surprised at the last avoidance issue. For what it is, it is amazing. BTW your friend REALLY likes and trusts you lol! p.s. Great vid. I own this drone but have never flown it. I haven't had time and live in a restricted airspace. I hope to try it out soon, and I'm looking forward to it. Databyter
Good review except I really wanted to see you pan the gimbal left - right. It will do it on your screen , just wanted to see how much more complicated it made things. Good work though with the avoidance with the trees and LOW obstacles, the most I have seen out of any review which normally do large bridges. I'll subscribe.

No wonder the landing did not end center on the landing pad - looks like you did not calibrate the landing pad before flight. Appears that the N end is pointing NW 😂. I have the Mavic 2 Zoom and have had spot on landing with the current firmware (DEC 2020).
You need to take off with the camera pointing at the ground. Then go up to 30ft - it needs image recognition - then return to home and it will be within a couple of inches.

I have searched the internet and I can not find a comparison of the video / photo quality of the Autel EVO vs Thor Mavic 2 Zoom ??? This seems like the most important comparison for those considering the EVO vs M2 Zoom. I have seen multiple comparison videos on the EVO vs M2 Pro, but that is not really a honest apples vs apples comparison. This is a really important review to me and I am sure many others who are on the fence about which bird to buy. I rest my case. Thanks for your stellar work on these reviews!

Great test, scared me on those branches..lol.. Yesterday I filmed where I could have used the point of interest and didn't even think about it, dang it, gonna have to start using the intelligent features so I look more intelligent. Play awesome review again Dustin but I wanna bring something up Approximately at11:52 When you are landing and testing the zoom features the video look little distorted I'm talking about kind of a fishbowl effect and I remember seeing a video about this problem they were saying it's a software issue what do you think
I'll have to rewatch that part to see what you mentioned.
I noticed that like jello effect on all the trees around them
When the cameras, both Pro and zoom, are aimed straight down seem to have that fish bowl effect. Not sure exactly why but maybe the lens shape or something...
possibly a software issue it is the opinion of photographers that brought this to the attention

Next time you fire up your drone double tap the screen and scroll left and right and you can make the gimbal move in the direction you wanted to

If your a camera guy and knows manual settings, get the Pro for best picture. If not, the cheaper Zoom should be good enough 👍

A few camera gurus are saying DJI is not using the 2 Pro camera to it's potential and limiting it in software either because of overheating or to not compete with it's phantom line

The camera on the zoom felt really solid to me. It seems like they really built the gimbal system well.
Well after seeing you run around, I guess Usain Bolt has nothing to worry about .. ha ha! Sort of surprised that neither Mavic 2 has 4K 60 fps ... my Evo has that, which is nice. Does have pretty good obstacle avoidance and tracking. Nice test. Thanks for the review. Cheers.
60fps would have been nice. How is the EVO with point of interest after some updates? Still a little jerky when circling? Haven't had a chance to test recently.
I haven't had a chance to try 'point of interest' since the one update, but the jerkiness when panning (yawing) is gone. I've used the EXP function to slow several functions down to make things more 'cinematic' ... kind of like employing the DJI Tripod mode .. same effect. Will probably do a shoot tomorrow, and might look for a place to test that .. also want to test the waypoint via drawing on a google map feature. Lots to test, and I have just 2 batteries, but they last longer than what I got with my P3A. Both batteries only have 3-4 cycles on them, so they are a long way from optimal performance. Cheers.
