Thank you for such a detailed video andfor sharing your findings with distancing the laser. I just had a long night running material test on some amamzon leatherette patches and I got the markings from the kapton tape. I never thought about running a short cycle just to get the patch tacky and then removing the tape! Thanks again! Any more of these projects to come?

Great video! Can you use a diode laser with Hydbond?

Yes- I've used a laser diode on the Hydbond. I stayed away from the blue- diode lasers have difficulties with just about anything blue.

Having the same problem with creases. Where did you get the replacement pad for your hat press? Thank you.

I used a silicone pad from Amazon- Soply 12" x 15” Thickest (.33") Silicone Heat Press Pad Mat Silicone Pad for Heat Transfer Machine Press Replacement Pad. I cut a small piece that fit the hat a little better. Hope this helps.

@thelaserchannel1 thanks a ton. I purchased some heat press pillows from Amazon. If those do not work I will give this a try. Be safe!

@@stonegatefarms It works better than what comes on the hat press.

I'd like to start engraving leatherette patches for hats. However, I've read that engraving leatherette can produce toxic fumes. I've also read that certain companies such as JDS leatherette patches are safe to engrave. Or should I just stick with real leather? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks...

A very good question- I use leatherette and leather-like for my patches that state they are laser safe. I rely on a good exhaust system to remove all fumes from projects- I don't want to inhale any fumes from any material. Real leather actually gets tricky- it depends on how the leather was tanned- some tanning chemicals are laser safe and produce great results and other tanning chemicals are not laser safe. I recommend buying from good sources who state if it's laser safe and if there's any harmful fumes. Hope this helps!
