An original member of the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts first found fame and fortune with the release of their 1971 live album, At Fillmore East. Betts played a key role in making the Allman Brothers Band stadium-filling superstars in the mid-‘70s then returned the band to prominence in 1989, keeping the group among rock’s respected vanguard through the ‘90s. As leader of his Great Southern band during the 2000s, Betts continued to play stages around the world, elating fans from Chicago to Tokyo.
The band members on this release include Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals), Duane Betts (lead guitar), Frankie Lombardi (drums, backup vocals), Mike Kach (keyboards, lead vocals), Pedro Arevalo (bass), Damon Fowler (lead/slide guitar, vocals) and Steve Camilleri (drums). In addition, there is a special guest appearance from Devon Allman, son of Gregg Allman, on “Midnight Rider.”
The 90-minute performance features several Allman Brothers Band classics, including 10 minute plus versions of “Ramblin’ Man” and “Blue Sky” and a 21 minute version of “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.”
As a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and won a Grammy Award for best rock performance for the bands instrumental, “Jessica,” in 1996. Betts is recognized as one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time with Rolling Stone ranking him at #58 in their 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time 2003 list. Dickey is recovering well from an accidental fall last September and is enjoying being back playing guitar and fishing.

The music of our youth, forever in our hearts. RIP ❤
I'm 63 I remember hearing their music when I was 14 years old rambling man for one great music in deed. When you get old your mind and body will tell on you.A lesson here we're all getting old at least he gave us good music. One day we're young the very next second we're old...Play on Dickie Betts!
Dickey will be sorely missed. a living legend.
Bless his heart it's a bitch getting old .. glad to see he's still making music.
Yea... Getting old sucks, but man the music he created will live forever. Bless you Dickie.
Who would of imagined that Dickey would out live them all. I guess alcohol doesn't kill all of them. It is sad to see him performing at this age and is limited by said age. After all he is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Respect. Respect. Respect.
Good genes.
I continued to watch B.B. King as he sat on his chair, occasionally playing a riff here and there, singing, and having guest guitarists on stage. He sang, talked and we loved it. Same with Dickey Betts. He earned it. As long as he wants to perform, we want to get together, like old friends.
Dickey not only outlasted most of them, he invested in a lot of property. He made it.
He still sounds better than most at his age. Roll on, Dickey!!
R.I.P. Dickey Betts you will be messed as your music will live on forever
our deepest condolences to the family and all the fans and I am a fan. 😇🙏
Crazy this man played while having a heart attack what a legend
There's a negative aspect of aging here...it's sad and tough to watch at times. But we can focus on the positive...a living legend playing his music in his own way with his son (who is great).
FEEL THE SAME 💞🎶🙏
like that comment,
This is the result of a stroke, not alcohol. Not to say that a lifetime of living hard doesn’t have negative effects, but I don’t think that’s what we’re seeing here. (I saw him in some of his lowest points and he was still tearing it up.) I think it’s great he’s still getting out there, it helps in the recovery. His stroke was maybe a year before this performance... I say it’s pretty admirable that he would even try. People may recall that Jerry Garcia had to totally relearn the guitar after a stroke.
I'm turning 65 in Sept. and getting old sucks.
He still plays a mean guitar. Thank you Dickey for the wonderful songs you have written and the melodic guitar playing. Dickey’s solo album Highway Call is still one of my favorites. God bless!❤️
One of my favs also!
He's still got great tone!
AMERICAN TREASURE!
Dickey may not be displaying the chops we are used to hearing, but you can still hear that it's him playing. His style. It's his song and he can do it anyway he wants to. Glad to see him still performing after all these years! He wrote some legendary, killer songs!!
That man is authentic. He is aged, no crime in that. Ramblin man sounded great and the voice has more gravelly sounds to it...a strength not a weakness. Duane had a sounding solo also, keep reaching your father is above the stratosphere. Thanks for years of studio blue sky, ramblin man, and Elizabeth Reed...all sound just as good if not better live. Surprise! Have a good one
a living legend but very aged after a hard life of abuse. They are all in this great song.
this is too sad to finish. what a great musician he was back in the day. the kindest thing I can say now is at least he's still playing.
What a legacy his son is his spitting image yes Dickies getting old. hard to listen but we will all get there sooner than later I'm very grateful for the music he's done he will live on for a long long time
As Neil sang ..It's better to fade away .
Dickie shounds horrible. Great band and jams!!!
Yes Dickey definitely aged but The Rambling Man is doing what he enjoys most & that’s playing music for his fans 🍑🍄✌️❤️🎶🎼🎤🎸😉
Yahoo! just ordered the vinyl, and also the live from the lone star roadhouse
It hits really really hard when I heard him says "when it's time for leaving, I hope you'll understand"... T_T
We'll understand, sir...
Yea. Id love to play even at his level today!! Love ya Betts!
Long live Richard Betts. The road goes on forever 👍🏼
Dickey's voice isn't what it was, which saddens me. We all love Dickey.
His solos are a bit slower, but his use of double-stops is better.
Nice to see his son is stepping up to carry the torch.
Love you Dickey 😍❤️
I don't mind him slowing down, but I sure miss that bell-like Dickie Betts guitar tone.
Legacy !!! Thanks Dickey for that. Better to play all the way !
Thank you.
I was fortunate enough to be at this concert. I've seen Dickey countless times and I knew something was off and that it wasn't "age". I was floored to see Dickey sit while playing. Unfortunately, this is right before Dickey had a mini-stroke. I hope he takes it to the road one more time if his health permits
I was at the concert too.
I remember thinking this might be my last chance to see him live.
Sure enough, that may have been his next to last performance.
Glad he can still play. I just saw John Mayall a couple weeks ago and he still brings it at 85+ years old! What is the retirement age for musicians anyhow?
There is no retirement age... it only happen when you can't remember how to play. Keith Rchards said he can't remember the songs but his "hands remember where to go"...muscle memory.
There is my boy, the bass player!!!!!
Pedro J. Arévalo!!!!!!
Dickey 'sweet tone' Betts. He's the one that plays music with his guitar.....instead of mindless widdling and fretboard pyrotechnics
Leyenda viva ,el guitarrista que hizo los fraseos y formas más complejas con la guitarra , junto con Duane allman
Awesome!
LOVE YOU
That gold top is beautiful.
Entirely too cool !!!!
ramblin' gamblin' man
RIP DICKY!
I'm somewhat a new fan and I really just can't believe after hearing the history and wealth within the Allman's Brothers Band's array of music that there wasn't a massive number of subscribers and fans for such an original, Richard 'Dicky' Betts.....I'm really enjoying your Highway Call album alot and I write songs (mostly demo recordings so far) myself....Finding your alls stuff is great and I'm looking forward to listening more, God willing. Thank you!
Wow. This is sad to watch
Dickey Betts is one of my all time guitar heroes. I play myself and my daughter was named Jessica because of that Allman Bothers song that Dickey so much contributed to. It saddens me to no amount that his guitar skills are gone. Maybe he was drunk , I don't know. It hurts to see him fuck up so badly.
:-)
There’s some people who never lose their voice, like David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, some that that sound like they’ve aged some. But man poor Dickey, he can still pull off the guitar, but that voice, wtf.
The bitchy part about getting old,is loss of finger flexibility and being unable to play those fluid runs you could in your 40's. Hits around 60 and steadily compromises your playing. Willie Nelson is amazing to play as long as he had.
This is just sad...
I always love dickey but i think its time to stop thats it
