I’ve got a 17 yr old daughter who dislikes any music I listen to. I’ve now gotten her tuned into DB & when she hears him, she stops dead in her tracks & says *Dickie Betts makes everything alright* 🤗.
Would somebody please tell Mr. Dickey Betts, thank you for all the times we have seen him live and that we love him and miss him dearly. I know he's 76 now and all just wish him well.
Dear Dickie, I've loved you since 1972, driving across the US in a Wolksvagen Bus, singing along in your guitar rifs. I can sing all of your guitar solos. I love you!
HE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDERRATED REALLY -- EVEN DUANE GAVE HIM CREDIT - 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT STYLES -- BETTS THOUGHTFUL TECHNICAL PRECISE -- DUANE SPONTANEOUS ALWAYS -- ALMOST ALL OF DICKEYS ISSUES WERE SELF INFLICTED -- THE RENDITION OF BLUE SKY AT SUNY IS SIMPLY BRILLIANT & STILL BEAUTIFUL TO THIS DAY
Mr. Betts is one of the greatest guitarists of our times. A true guitar god , he should be in the top 10 greatest pickers of all times. Just think of how many young people was inspired by this great artist.
I saw the ABB a few times back in the 90s. One show in New Haven comes to mind, when Dickey was just on FIRE that night and it seemed the rest of the band knew it and just turned him loose on us. It was one of the most memorable guitar nights ever. Tone. Uplifting feeling. It was amazing. This guy is awesome.
Dickey added the Franklin's intro right after Jerry died. The Brotherhood of Light showed a video of Jerry looking down on the band. Gives me goose bumps remembering it.
All I can say is Dickey Betts has been an entertainer of his signature sound. The harmonies, the blend, the long journey, that he takes the listener on.
I was fortunate enough the be third row front center with MTB and Dickey Betts. Blackberry Smoke does a good job of carrying on the traditions of Great Southern Rock. What will we do with our Dixie concert Flags you know the ones we used to wave when southern rock bands were playing. I really miss those days I'm real old now.
He can still play.....Like any other musician, he has good nights, bad nights and magical nights.....And on those special nights, every note you hit sounds great and leads to more and more.
Drank his skills away?? Listen Steve, apparently you are a younger man who has yet to feel any effects from Father Time. DB is 70 years old, which although younger than it used to be, is still old. Eric Clapton freely admits there's things he can no longer play on the guitar due to getting older. Dude, if we're lucky, we all become a shell of what we used to be. And that ain't always all bad.
Howlin Waters: Dickey over the years has played this great tune in a variety of grooves, I guess depending on his mood/feelings. Sometimes with snappy precision, other times in a laid back almost behind the beat bluesy groove. Rather than tired, it's in this more funky rendition that one must sway along and pop one's fingers to really appreciate the lovely musicianship. As for old Men, you do see his super talented young son playing alongside in this video. Agree that the bass player is especially hip, but you must have missed Pedro's rhapsodic statements about the boss's evergreen power during these years. I don't mean to seem condescending, but do try listening again.
Ill tell you where the four winds dwell In franklins tower there hangs a bell It can ring, turn night to day It can ring like fire when you loose your way.
yeah man, Duane and Dickey.....i hear new things from them every day....have you heard the latest edition of eat a peach with the Fillmore songs on.....mind blowin.....
+jamman6565 Hey thanks for getting back to me on that. I haven't seen Great Southern since< I think 77 at Cap Center. Not to sure on the exact time frame. I'll have to get out there next time they are around.
@samk069 Man...that's too bad. Dickey is absolutely amazing, but I would LOVE to have an opportunity to see The ABB with Derek and Warren, these two guys playing together is quite incredible, as well. Hoping I get a chance to see the Allmans in any way, shape or form!
@b4d27 I'm seeing the ABB this coming March. My brother and I are getting ourselves and my father front row tickets to the ABB and Dickey Betts and the Great Southern (since dickey isnt with ABB anymore) as a birthday present for him. ABB in march and DB in April. The ABB has been my dad's favorite band for 30+years and he has never seen them live. AND he introduced my brother and I to them. cant wait! /endrant
~woke up on top of my "92" chevey s- 10. gathering of the vibes 2007. first festival i've .been to .dickey & his son ,duane & great southern played the night previous in the rain . happen to capture it on vid... well woke up to a wake & bake.. .. rubbed the sleep out of me eye's. and said good mornin ,to the group. duane looked at me with this black eye and said can you give me a ride to the airport me and my pop arn't getting along...woops of cousre i could not get out of the lot ...woops...
Saw dicky Betts LIVE in New Brunswick the NJ State Theater . Not a missed note , not one noticeable mistake. Funny, when he came out on stage first thing Dicky said was "Been a while, so I hope I don't make to many mistakes."
This guy is a big influence on me and many guitarists. One thing about Dickey Betts is that you can always tell it's him or someone influenced by him. That singing tone! It really has his name all over it. The drummer in this lineup is not that great. Dickey is a giant of American Southern rock and he's a gifted composer. His instrumentals are fabulous! Jessica, In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed and his songs like Rambling Man are a testament to his greatness. Thank you Mr. Betts!
When Charlie Daniels wrote that song in 1973, Dickey was using a red sunburst Les Paul most of the time. In just a couple of years he was playing a goldtop. In 1995 & 96 Dickey used a RED ES-335 in most shows but by 1997 he was playing a..guess you would call it..a "tobacco burst" Fender Stratocaster. (see ABB 1997 video) In more recent years he used that guitar for electric slide. The guitar in this video is one of his new Dickey Betts signature Les Paul's. One of his new ones is red though.
Trucks and Haynes are worth the ticket alone. I saw Tedeshi and Trucks and it was awesome!! Dickey is his own man!! (and Andy Aledort ain't no slouch) This band Rocks!!!
Can't wait to see him 5/4/13 in WPB, Fl.. Hope he plays Blue Sky. This sounds so great. But I wouldn't mind if the piano player sat this song out though. No disrespect, but it was a little over the top : )
The countless 3 chord songs which Dickey produced were made great by the guitar work of Duane. I have liked the stuff that he did alongside Duane for decades. It doesn't take a well trained ear to hear the lack of magic which exists in his work since Duane's death. The thing that made Betts so good was the "harmony" leads that he did with Duane. This clip here is a very good example of my point.
@1957user I just read your post about not paying to see the ABB or Dickey Betts in concert because you say they are not good live. Ummmm, gee, THEY ARE A LIVE BAND! That is where they both excel! I have never before read a statement that so clearly illustrates just how cluess a human being could be.
the allman brothers are no more....until they reunite there's only great southern and the gregg allman band.....until dickey and gregg are on stage together, the brothers aint a band anymore....BREAKS MY LITTLE HEART RIGHT IN TWO!
No matter how down I am this song always lifts me up!! Love Dickey Betts!
Today we lost another great one - not just from ABB and GS but the whole of the world of music. RIP Dickie. Gone but never forgotten.
I’ve got a 17 yr old daughter who dislikes any music I listen to. I’ve now gotten her tuned into DB & when she hears him, she stops dead in her tracks & says *Dickie Betts makes everything alright* 🤗.
I'm always blown away by the new twists Dickey Betts puts on these classic songs!
Would somebody please tell Mr. Dickey Betts, thank you for all the times we have seen him live and that we love him and miss him dearly. I know he's 76 now and all just wish him well.
Dickey’s guitar work is a joy to my ears. My fav picker!
I love him.
Dickey is a joy. Nobody like him.
I love Dickey Betts.
RIP Dickie , you are one of the best southern country music guitarist ever in time you will be mist for sure .
Dickie Betts is a key founding fathers of Southern Rock;
and this is a special gift to all of us. Thank you so much.
What a warm, organic and melodic sound.
Dear Dickie, I've loved you since 1972, driving across the US in a Wolksvagen Bus, singing along in your guitar rifs. I can sing all of your guitar solos. I love you!
Bless you Dickey. Will always love ya!
Dickey is my favorite guitar player. He is so under rated. Lots of the licks credited to Duane Allman on the early albums are really from Dickey.
HE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDERRATED REALLY -- EVEN DUANE GAVE HIM CREDIT - 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT STYLES -- BETTS THOUGHTFUL TECHNICAL PRECISE -- DUANE SPONTANEOUS ALWAYS -- ALMOST ALL OF DICKEYS ISSUES WERE SELF INFLICTED -- THE RENDITION OF BLUE SKY AT SUNY IS SIMPLY BRILLIANT & STILL BEAUTIFUL TO THIS DAY
Oh,my goodness,man,man,man...How much better can you get?!...
He plays a pretty guitar, always did, always will
Mr. Betts is one of the greatest guitarists of our times. A true guitar god , he should be in the top 10 greatest pickers of all times. Just think of how many young people was inspired by this great artist.
Fantastic what a great song .!And the whole band is good.

Dicky and his son shreddin' the heck right outta them Les Pauls' - I Freakin' Luv It !!!
Don't care what anybody say's Dickey is sorely missed my many Allman Bro's fans. Me included.
totally, me too
Dickey & the gang nailed it !!!!
I couldn't help but grin when he hit the familiar intro to Blue Sky. Picking is still like drinking water to Dickey Betts.
I just like this..
It's music..
My favorite musician straight up. This is my favorite song. Wish I could meet you Dickie.....

A genuine trubidor,, an ambassador to and of the mind of young southerners in my generation !
this band is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Saw them at Penns Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA about a month ago....BEST show I've seen in years...hands down!!!
when i die i left instructions 4 them 2 place this song @ my service!!! n my TOP 5!!! Dickey killed this!!! my all time Allman Bros. track!!!
Dickie rules....; listen to the albums from the late 70's and early 80's! Great Southern was really good then, and holds their own now!
He is still very good. An ABB founder forever!
He can still play.....Like any other musician, he has good nights, bad nights and magical nights.....And on those special nights, every note you hit sounds great and leads to more and more.
such a funky soul groove
Thanks for letting us hear how Dickey's been doing. To hear this, sounds like everything is doing just fine.
Please keep playing U all sound great ,all in the family..👍
love it!
me too
Good to see Dicky sober. Yeah, Allman Brothers can never be the same without him. Christ I named two daughters Jessica and Melissa. Ha, ha.
When You See Metal Gates at the Front of the Stage You Know You are Still Relevant. Dickey Has Been For His Entire Life.
This Band Is Fucking Killing It!!
Dickey is the Itzhak Perlman of the guitar; he can extract sweet tones from his beloved 'goldie' in the same way Perlman does from his Stradivarius.
Drank his skills away?? Listen Steve, apparently you are a younger man who has yet to feel any effects from Father Time. DB is 70 years old, which although younger than it used to be, is still old. Eric Clapton freely admits there's things he can no longer play on the guitar due to getting older.

Cant believe this is what the brothers were missing. Dickey didnt lose anything
Dickey favorite guitarist
The guitar and that voice...they define the genre. Rock on DB!!

Warren was not in Great Southern
This week @ Turning Stone Casino--nice to hear to break-up the winter !!!

Ill tell you where the four winds dwell
In franklins tower there hangs a bell
It can ring, turn night to day
It can ring like fire when you loose your way.
Happy birthday Dickey!
saw DB and GS 4x. loved all the shows. great music and musicians...
yeah man, Duane and Dickey.....i hear new things from them every day....have you heard the latest edition of eat a peach with the Fillmore songs on.....mind blowin.....
this is kickass!
Sounds so much like Franklins Tower in the beginning of this.
they do a franklins tower jam before every blue sky since garcia passed
+jamman6565 Hey thanks for getting back to me on that. I haven't seen Great Southern since< I think 77 at Cap Center. Not to sure on the exact time frame. I'll have to get out there next time they are around.
Damn, I didn't know. I've heard it too. No wonder I like this song. It's a sick jam, and especially this version of it.
That's because it was
@samk069 Man...that's too bad. Dickey is absolutely amazing, but I would LOVE to have an opportunity to see The ABB with Derek and Warren, these two guys playing together is quite incredible, as well. Hoping I get a chance to see the Allmans in any way, shape or form!
I fuckin love Dickey Betts!
Yeah Dickey! Wishin' you well man!
Holy shite. The real deal
Duane, Berry Oakley, Butch, Gregg, Dickey (fired) all gone now.GET on board with "Blackberry Smoke"! The South CAN do it again!
Obe Doobie dude I love blackberry smoke! They're the best southern rock band out there at the moment, imo.
This is the best comment I've ever seen!!
Come see Dickey Betts June 9, 2012 at Rock, Ribs, and Ridges in Vernon, NJ. They will be rocking the Mountain with NRPS, SwampDaWamp, and Cabinet !
Indubbiamente bravi!!!
Best ever
Much respect to Mr. Betts. And mister duane ( skydog) allman especially Gregg. Love their music.

Duane Betts looks SO YOUNG.
Well yea, this was almost 11 years ago.
increible!!!!! Dickey Betts un animal!
Oh yea!
Dickey looks sober here! Sounding good too !
Dickey was scheduled to play Sun Fest in West Palm Beach earlier this year and cancelled at the last minute. I was so disappointed.
Turn your love my way
Absolutely, Franklin! Go Dickey! Mr Franklin Bluebird.
He's still got it......

First Song From The Allmans I Heard was Rambling Man. It Stuck! Dickey And The Allmans Have Given Us All So Much.
This proves that nobody really needs a whammy bar on a guitar.
True.
Anybody that plays a Gibson without a Bigsby proves that you don't need a whammy bar 🤷♂️ and that's most Gibsons. So....?

The Souths gonna rock the West Coast this weekend, Marin County Fair,
wont be long and I L be there.
You are correct.
Gah damn it Dickey play that fukkin guitar!!!
Dickey is the best!
I've seen the Brothers and Greg Allman (solo), but never saw Dickey. This is a great performance but I want the original version played at my funeral.
You too, are correct.
