Actually, the main reason why this movie even exists is because John Lasseter wondered what Mater would do (In all those places around the world, in which John came up with the idea). So yeah, for the long and short of it, Cars 2 was like John Lasseter's personal fanfiction (Even though he's technically the original creator. Weird, I know.) I think this movie wouldn't have such a hated rep if the title was changed to Mater Tales: The Movie, or something like that. Cars 2 felt more like a full length Mater Tales cartoon than a continuation of the first movie.

And to an extant have no clue what Americana was. Cars is a kids movie, but features 1950 America, which is for much older kids at heart, like Lassetter.
Yeah a lot of people were not pleased with Cars 2 including myself. Though it does have good action scenes it was wasted potential with Larry the Cable Guy as Tow Mater. But it's not PIXAR's worst as that goes to 2022's Lightyear which completely ruined the mythos of Buzz Lightyear for me.
MegaSoulHero fucking excuse me? You do realize that John Lasseter pretty much single handedly saved Disney from making more shitty direct to DVD sequels including but not limited to a Chicken Little spinoff (yes they were planning to do that). He demanded that those movies be canceled. All of these fantastic movies that Disneys been making lately like Big Hero 6, Wreck it Ralph, Zootopia, Frozen, Tangled, and so on? NONE of those would have existed if it hadn't been for Lasseters influence. So if he wants to make another Cars movie, I think he's earned the right to do that. And the reason Cars 2 was lacking was because he wasn't even directing it until only a few months before its release, but by then it was too late for him to really save it. This is not George Lucas, this is John motherfucking Lasseter you're talking about. Show some goddamn respect.
I was 3 and a half when I watched it in cinemas. I loved it so much, even though I had no idea what was going on too. I rewatched it recently after 5 years, and yeah, it’s a bad film, but i still love it and I finally understand the story.
I remember this being on in the living room when I was 16 years old and I watched the scene where lightning is chasing mater and he says “McQueen I’m the bomb yes mater you are the bomb” I just stood there and asked myself “are you serious?!” Like in the year 2011 where you had kung fu panda 2 and rango Pixar decided to release this and according to John lasseter he makes films for the audience to which i say what audience?! Because it’s not for everyone
Leopold Litchenstein Maybe, but there is so little to go on and this studio has manipulated us like this before: just look at Brave and The Good Dinosaur. But we will see.
This should have been an Incredibles movie. Just replace Lightning McQueen with Dash, who is travelling the world as an athlete, whilst Mater is replaced with Mr Incredible, who is still doing missions behind his family's back. Of course, the problem with that set up is that it's too similar to the first.
Ironically when we did get Incredibles 2, I'd say it was disappointing, I mean it's still a good 7/10 movie for me but it just wasn't as good as the first one and I didn't like how it immediately picked up after the first movie, I think it would have been better with Dash and Violet grown up and Jack Jack being a teenager. Also, I did find it annoying that they made a Monsters Inc prequel instead of a sequel, a sequel would have been far more interesting with Boo a bit older and maybe trying to get back to the monster world.
I liked cars but was a bit disappointed with the sequel. The whole spy car idea was cute, but out of left field considering the first film. I get why they focused on Mater. A) they made a bunch of cute shorts where he told these far out stories about him doing all these weird far out things that turned out to be true and they thought it would work for a movie. B) Paul Newman died so he couldn't be Doc Hudson c) Owen Wilson was still recovering from his suicide attempt so he wasn't available but for a few scenes. For me, cars 2 is more of a spin off than a sequel.
Ok, I'm having a bit of trouble with this. I have never liked any of cars movies. In the first one, Lightning was just an asshole who I never rooted for and he never stopped being one. And I get that the sequel had a dumb premise and was ridiculous through and through. But when it comes down to it, I would rather watch the second one. At least there's an actual conflict that has repercussions. In the first one nothing was on the line, nothing was happening, and nothing changed! And it would always confuse me when people praised the first one and condemned the second one. I came to this video hoping for some concrete answers, and all he did was complain about it without addressing any problems. If someone could point out the problems that make it worse than the first, I'd gladly hear them out.
Actually, the main reason why this movie even exists is because John Lasseter wondered what Mater would do (In all those places around the world, in which John came up with the idea).

I did love the scene where they were exploring Cars Japan.
They chose these movies over the incredibles for sequels because they could get more merchandise out
And now there is a 3rd one. (sigh) Third times the charm?
Considering the trailer's dark tone, possibly
Leopold Litchenstein I've learned that trailers lie.
Logical Juan Well yeah but we have at least a little hope
Leopold Litchenstein Maybe, but there is so little to go on and this studio has manipulated us like this before: just look at Brave and The Good Dinosaur. But we will see.
lighting death gave me hope
When I was little I thought this film was better than the first movie. But now, I see it as a pointless movie.
Same.
Cars was based on Susie the Little Blue Coupe, and I think you should review that at some point.
This is basically a 90 minutes Mater's Tall Tale
I loved both movies. Cars is my favorite Pixar film and I do not care what anyone says.
Welp, Cars 3 came out and, it was surprisingly good/okay.
This should have been an Incredibles movie. Just replace Lightning McQueen with Dash, who is travelling the world as an athlete, whilst Mater is replaced with Mr Incredible, who is still doing missions behind his family's back. Of course, the problem with that set up is that it's too similar to the first.
Well, they did make an incredibles 2, so I’m sure Pixar listened to him.
"Why wasn't there an incredibles 2 made??"
And then the year 2018 came along...
I thought it was common knowledge even in 2012 that they were making The Incredibles 2.
Also... THEY'RE MAKING A THIRD CARS MOVIE!
Well, I enjoy Cars 2. Yes, the idea was dump, but it was fun seeing cars fight themselves with gadgets. Still I respect that video.
I feel like i'm the only person in the world who likes this movie.
You aren't, but that doesn't make it a good movie.
DRG I know it's a bad movie, but I actually really enjoy it 😆 I like the backgrounds and the friendly atmosphere
i feel like i'm the only one who likes the first movie.
average gamer not true. More people like the first than the second. The first is actually my third favorite Pixar movie.
I like the first one better, second one I give it a 2.5 out of 5
I actually liked Cars 2.
The think I really liked about the movie is how where ever they go it looks like the actually place in the real world
Ironically when we did get Incredibles 2, I'd say it was disappointing, I mean it's still a good 7/10 movie for me but it just wasn't as good as the first one and I didn't like how it immediately picked up after the first movie, I think it would have been better with Dash and Violet grown up and Jack Jack being a teenager. Also, I did find it annoying that they made a Monsters Inc prequel instead of a sequel, a sequel would have been far more interesting with Boo a bit older and maybe trying to get back to the monster world.
I can't wait to see what he will say about Cars 3.
I'd love to see your view on planes and planes fire and rescue.
Why does everybody hates this movie? (I honestly don't think it is bad)
Honestly the only good thing about these movies is seeing what real life cars are in the scenes
And then we got a THIRD CARS MOVIE!!!! yayyyyy!!!
-cries in the corner-
Rip I love cars 2
I understand that this isn't a great movie but I actually enjoyed it and liked it more than the first one.
It is the Man who knew Too Little. The same plot.
Yay he jinxed it
We’re getting an Incredibles 2!!!
"This one is definitely running on fumes" Cars. I see what you did there
