I'll never forget the first time I got into my car to go to work, turned it on, only for it to sound like I poked a damn grizzly bear in the eyeball. It was LOUD. Turned out the rust had taken its toll and it was hanging away from the exhaust port.
Looks like you already had a replacement muffler before. So this is your 2nd replacement muffler in 2019 for your 2006 Impala. I just changed my 1st muffler with a Walker SoundFx this month on my 2008 Impala and my OEM muffler lasted 16 years. Your experience doesn't give me any confidence that our Walker mufflers will last. I live in the rust belt of a New England state.
Just a good tip for anyone doing this job, if you soak the rubber fastener (boot) that holds the muffler to the hanger in WD-40 for about ten minutes, the fastener will slide off very easily.
I'm going to be changing my first muffler and need to ask you a question since I've never done it.My exhaust pipes are 2 1/2 inches diameter and I'm buying a Walker muffler that has 3 inch inlet and 2 3/4 inch outlet. Can any modification be done to make this fit on my pipes? Thank you.
They make reducers for that in just about every size imaginable. You can find them at any auto parts store. You also may need to modify the length of your pipes or reducers to make it all fit. Direct fit, if available, is often worth the extra cost.
Do you have a ballpark figure to replace the muffler on a 2007 Impala. I just got mine replaced and was charged 185 before taxes...there was a little bit of welding done as well and a couple parts the mechanic said would cost 15 and 10 dollars, but the muffler was the spendy part... Thanks for any info.
This is probably the most clear and clarifying video I've seen in years and something about the voice it's very sue them makes me want to trust you. 😆
Great video. Straight and to the point.
I cut a 1 inch slit (or 2) in each end of the new muffler so it clamps tighter
wow. this video is very good and clear... I have a similar platform Impala needs a muffler. I think I just follow your steps.

So you don't necessarily need to do any welding if it's a direct fit and you have an exhaust clamp?
A direct fit should fit right into the existing pipe. Clamp it and done!

This is the first time I changed it out on this car. I thought the new muffler was sort of loud but otherwise it had held up.
Love the video very helpful💝😊

Thanks for sharing the tip.
was there supposed to be water dripping out the front of the muffler??
Thank you 🙏 very helpful

Excellent vid. Thank you.
I still have the original on my Impala. Should I cut as close to the old muffler as possible?
Yes, so that you don't shorten the long pipe where it meets the muffler.
@@TheOriginalMechanic thanks.😀
Wouldn't it be easier to just cut the hooks off the old muffler?
nice thank you

That doesn't seem unreasonable.
Which was the other part used to secure the muffler? Not the 2 1/2 inch clamp, but the other part?
Is it bad just to remove it ? And not putting nothing on it?
No muffler at all? It's ok if you don't mind be noticed and like to watch people cover their ears.
you probably could have sprayed lube/wd on the rubber holders
Very helpful
