    This is my old high school. She wasn't lying when she said it broke everybody in the community. My heart breaks to this day remembering Ms. Kuczka. It sounds stupid, but she was the first PE teacher I've ever had who always made me feel comfortable as a bigger student in gym class. It's little in the moment, but those small encouragements mean so much when you're a shy child. Gym wasn't supposed to be an uncomfortable place. She simply wanted us to be healthier and more active. In those moments, the meaning behind the actions are simple, but the impact lasts forever. Central VPA was a deep community for us students. A school of siblings. I'll never forgive those same hallway walls painted with our students' art, being tainted with something so evil.
    R.I.P, Ms. Kuczka. Thank you for always letting me listen to music when we did our laps. Oh, and don't forget to bring your damn gym uniforms, or that ass was going to detention 😭😭! Love and miss her so much!

    I live down the block from the school where it happened, and that day will live with me forever. I was running errands and got caught in traffic nearby--it was chaotic. I saw parents running from blocks away, ditching their cars in the middle of busy roads, to get to their children. Kids climbed out of second-story windows and were running to the park adjacent to the school. Strangers were rescuing kids and ushering them across the road. Police were on the scene within minutes, and because of Uvalde, acted immediately saving many many lives.

    • @myeyeswentdeaf6213
      @myeyeswentdeaf6213 Год назад +37

      Uvalde was a disgrace. That only worse even after. That mother who hopped the fence and brought her 2 son and their classes out to safety was arrested. The judge threw out the charges but Uvalde Police threatened to bring back up an old charge from years ago that was suspended or violate her on a probation (or something similar) threatening her with that if she didn’t stop talking to the press.
      Then at the funeral (this is actually recorded, a biker admits they were hired by Uvalde Police) a Motorcycle Club was there intimidating reporters.
      Then to top it off, the most disgusting of all…Do you remember this rumor that was going around during the right’s attack on school boards and books that litter boxes were being put in classrooms for children who identify as cats to use as restrooms? It was even pushed by actual sitting US Congress members. That WHOLE BS thing originated from a company who donated ‘School Mass Shooting Emergency Kits’ to a whole bunch of schools. It was a bucket with bandages, gauze, tourniquets, a whole bunch of first aid supplies and I think even a radio, and they also came with a bag of kitty litter to soak up blood and guts all everything….also directions suggest if children are on lockdown in their classrooms for hours it can be poured in the emptied out bucket and used as temporary facilities. This company donated 1 for each classroom closet for hundreds of schools… aaand what does the right do? Actual sitting US congress members and senators for F sake? They take something that serious and twist it into this BS to 1. use for attack on trans people. 2. Give their dopey base another ridiculous thing to outrage about. And most of all… 3. Take the focus off of mass school shootings and non existent gun control laws threatening our children and turn the focus towards the threat of nonexistent litter boxes.
      Doesn’t get much lower than that.

    I've been an art teacher for almost 10 years. Fortunately never experienced a school shooting, but definitely see a drastic change in behavior and mental health in students. Far less engagement, even with students who love art. My first 4 years before the pandemic were the best, I'm now considering either leaving the profession or moving to a smaller district. You can only take so much trauma each day and feel like you are not supported by a district that wants to ignore the problem or even blame teachers for not doing enough when we are doing too much.

      There’s a reason why, drug rehabs, mental health treatment centers, trauma therapy, etc. ALL have an art therapy class or day.
      NO MATTER WHAT, that room will ALWAYS be a place for pure and true art. What happened in that room was terrible, but NO MATTER how terrible, it’s got nothing on art, the healing power art has. Art has some kinda power that can help people cope, bounce back, etc. And if it’s one thing I’ve noticed is (and this is NOT me saying ‘LoOk At ThE bRiGhT sIdE’ or some BS like that), I’ve noticed in my own screwed up life is some of the best art, my own and others, has come from trauma. Some of the best artists I’ve ever seen were in prison. I’ve come up with some of my best concepts trying to process my trauma or emotions through art. That scumbag may have killed people in that room but he could never kill the purpose of that room…. It should stay as the art room. I hop it did.

    My graparents on my moms side had high school education, raised 4 kids and put them all through university, and owned their own home just by working.
    My parents are very skilled and well educated, and managed to raise my brother and I in our small house but with very little extra time after work for raising us or having their own life.
    Now Im older than my parents were when I was born, much older than my grandparents were when they had all 4, and what do I have? College education and a great work ethic, busting my ass at 15 different jobs and not one has ever paid a living wage. I live in a very small apartment, drive a car that can't be inspected again, no savings or retirement plan, no kids, no hobbies (no money or room), no life to speak of no matter how hard I work.
    The kids that are coming up now have even more education and understanding of whats going on, and know that after school, nothing awaits most of them no matter how hard they work. They have easy access to weapons. What more do you need to know?

We pretend to have the same chances and expect to be masters of our own destiny, but after you run into the wall over and over and can't physically do more, you should realize it's just luck, and the odds get longer every year.

(My definition being mass shooting). Back in the early 90’s a kid was shot in the neck on the first day of school in the hallway, but that such a rare occurrence. It happened because some kid was show another kid his gun by his locker and it went off, hit another kids down the hall. Then last year a couple kids (I think this was a gang thing) had an argument in school an one wait outside and chased him like 2 or 3 blocks and the news reported it as a school shooting. Your school shooting stuck out to me because Baltimore!? Inner city school shootings where the intent is just high body count of random victims is extremely rare.

      You live in a fantasy world where your children are victim to the reality you refuse to acknowledge. And what is a good citizen? Simply one who never says, does or thinks anything that is unusual. Schools are maintained in order to bring this uniformity up to the highest possible point. A school is a hopper into which children are heaved while they are still young and tender; therein they are pressed into certain standard shapes and covered from head to heels with official rubber-stamps. Education is not merely neglected in many of our schools today, but is replaced to a great extent by ideological indoctrination. Our schools and colleges are turning out people who cannot feel fulfilled unless they are telling other people what to do.
      "Education should aim at destroying free will, so that after pupils are thus schooled, they will be incapable throughout the rest of their lives of thinking or acting otherwise than as their school masters would have wished." - Johann Gottlieb Fichte

      Teachers know. Teachers know who’s being bullied. They may not know exactly where it’s happening or when. They don’t know every instance that’s happening, like what happened to you (btw, sry you had to deal with that), but they know who’s being bullied.
      And for the same reason you didn’t tell on them who pulled a knife on you, is the same reason the teachers who knew you were being bullied didn’t say nothing, is the same reason prison guards who see an inmate getting punked…, they know just like you knew, you telling an authority figure, or even them seeing an authority figure looking out for you on their own, will just make things sooo much worse for you.
      There’s ONLY ONE way to handle bullies. That’s why I’m against these ‘Zero Tolerance’ for fighting policies in schools, because these teachers and school staff know who’s who and they know who was fighting to stand up for themselves. Sad thing about ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy is it’s usually the kid that’s being bullied that’s always the one who gets caught starting the fight, because they’re not the type experienced in knowing what to look for and when and how to not get caught. They just know today’s the day I’m gonna stand up to my bully and they end up pummeling him in the middle of math class or something. But sad part is, then, because of ‘Zero Tolerance’, that kid who gets bullied, for whatever reason (like maybe he’s weak or skinny and nerdy or whatever), he gets expelled, but NOW he gets sent to the bad school..the school for violent and troubled youth. The kinda place his bullies wouldn’t last a day. Ain’t that some sh**!?

Just look at how many among us scoff at others for just wanting to raise children. There’s a sinister idea pervading sick society that the fewer humans living, the better. School shootings are just one manifestation of that nihilism. I am homeschooling my children and live in a county where almost one third of the children are homeschooled and the percentage is rising. And even though his mother and I have had our issues he's always had mom and dad at home when he needed us . He understands what love and compassion are, he also understands that life is hard and it can get harder if you make it. He graduated from highschool he now has a full time job and he's 18 years old. He also understands a lot of the nuance things we learn in life the "moral compass" . I attribute it all to his upbringing when I was his age I was serving 6 years for armed robbery I was doing drugs ,dealing drugs, just wild ! And I did not have the same upbringing that my son has had. Mostly just my mom. The thing that - as a European - strikes me the most is the total lack of aftercare. Let's say a students parent dies in an accident or from cancer or somthing. The whole class gets immediate psychological support IN class, IN school for at least a week AND the other children of the school can come too, if theay feel the need to. There is individual aftercare for as long as you need it. Luckily, our country hasn't had any school shootings, but then again, it is a whole lot harder to get ( a licence ) for a gun too ...

Remove magnet on door to lock, put paper over our window, and hide in a corner quietly?? Glad I'm retired, but anywhere I go I sit with my back to the wall and look for possible exits or a place to dive under. And I've never been through a school shooting. (Thank goodness). Let me preface this with, I’m a ‘single mom’ of 2. 2 comments that REALLY stood out.....the first is “he knows all those drills”. That LITERALLY was a punch to the gut. The second, was an earlier comment about the shooters possession of a gun in his parents home, and there was “nothing they could do”. I’m from an old school mind set, if my child is acting a fool, in MY HOME, I’m sorry, but there’s NOTHING SHE can do-to stay in MY home. And, the guns would have been taken immediately, and destroyed, BY ME. Most fatherless homes, one of which I actually am, btw, create wishy washy rules about stupidity of kids. Moms can’t be dads. Dads are the better of the 2 parents to do tough love. Moms get too emotionally involved. It was REALLY difficult to ignore my inner mom, and tough love my kids. And when moms a narcissist, all bets are off. The kids destined for a nightmare in adulthood. Think about it, does ANYONE think there are any school shooters, or random murders in general that were not mentally ill? As a culture, the US breeds mental illness. We need to do better.

      So you think that being a father means you have to be the disciplinarian? Is that maybe where things go wrong, because who says that that role is what they want, or that it is a natural one? It is not the 50s anymore where raising boys was about drilling this masculinity (toxic) in to them. And woman are too emotional? Lol. I think the US, and most of this world is suffering because of this idea that men are the saviors of this world.

    My kids are adults now & I never worried about issues like this. I live in Canada 🇨🇦 & school shootings do not happen here, like they do in the US. We have our problems here too...but, nothing close to what is happening in The States. Thank goodness. Plus, our gun laws are more strict about who can purchase a gun. The licensing & paperwork are more strict. We shake our heads everytime another school shooting happens in the US. Your politicians seem more interested in protecting gun laws than protecting your kids. It's absolutely disgusting. After so many...nothing has changed. As alot of your politicians are funded by the NRA. So sad & heartbreaking 💔...that their priorities are NOT about the safety of their citizens. Something needs to change.

    • @strangefruit8776
      @strangefruit8776 Год назад +3

      The problem is our politicians are more concerned with banning guns than they are about protecting children. UK is almost to the point of requiring a license to even possess a knife. The United States is the last country with the right to self defense. Ending that will have a ripple affect across the board. For one, our country would almost certainly be attacked by a foreign adversary.

    • @juliemackenzie1978

      @@strangefruit8776 What I hear is...your citizens are not about banning guns..they are about people, not being able to get ahold of guns that are made to kill many. Semi-automatic weapons that soldiers & policemen use. There is no reason for the average person to have these weapons. You would just obliterate an animal...if you used something like that to hunt. What would be the point? No meat to get. So, the problems will continue. If you are not part of the solution...you are part of the problem. Right?

    • @RustyStator
      @RustyStator Год назад +3

      @@juliemackenzie1978why have such a strong opinion of something you have no real understanding of? No meat to get? This is just regurgitated propaganda. I hunt wild boar with an AR15 specifically because of the high capacity and fast follow up shots. They roam in packs, and are extremely aggressive in many cases. The damage caused is far less than a typical hunting rifle in a larger caliber.
      I know you don't care about any of this, but it needs to be said. Canada has proven the slippery slope "fallacy" over the last 5 years. You can't even buy handguns anymore. You have officially been disarmed by your government.
      A major argument from the pro gun side has always been: they will start with semiautomatics and magazine restrictions, then it's all the guns. Well wouldn't you know, Canada did exactly that. So I guess these gun nuts are on to something.... We settled our stance on private gun ownership with the British empire in the late 1700s.
      Fortunately for you, Americans will come to your aid should your leaders decide to subjugate you, as has happened several times throughout history. It's cool though.... Trudeau seems like a genuine, and honest politician. Definitely not a power hungry narcissist..... 😅

    • @RustyStator
      @RustyStator Год назад +2

      @@juliemackenzie1978also... another incorrect statement. Police and soldiers use Automatic weapons, not semiautomatic. There is a major difference. The point of having privately owned weapons close to the capability of our police and military would be obvious to anyone who doesn't live an extremely sheltered life. The police are the armed enforcement of the state... get it? They are the ones that would be used to subjugate..... so obviously we want weapons close to equal capabilities to defend our freedom should the need arise. 2nd amendment exists for a reason, and that's the reason.

    I am fro IL. Around 10yrs ago Chicago shut down some government housing. Those people were placed in St Louis and Bloomington/Normal IL. Crime spiked in those areas. Red flag laws allow anyone to make an accusation and have their firearms taken without due process. How many have an ex who have had fight with? We need armed security with metal detectors. Protect our kids like politicians are protected. The gun violence going on in neighborhoods is gang related. The governor here in IL banned nearly 200 types of guns back in January after his re-election and yet the gangs are still killing people. St Louis is also a stand your ground state and has Castle Doctrine. People have a right to defend themselves against people who wish to do them harm. Chicago has gotten so bad that groups of people run through the city robbing 10-12 people in just minutes and many of these are caught on camera. IL just passed cashless bail. Our DA Kim Fox is woke and in many cases refuses to prosecute crimes. People should not be allowed to go out and re-offend when they have commited viole t crimes. Cook county is called Crook County for a reason.

    It's goes back to what Mark says alot. A loss of love, including self love. When you hate yourself, you also often hate the world that you feel made you hate yourself, so it makes sense in your mind to end your pain by ending others lives.
    I feel it's only going to get worse as we continue to move further and further away from goodness, truth, compassion, self sacrifice for others, and true love.
