Hey Chris on the eagle and larger blades you can bury the tip in the log and move the feather stick to make curls. You can make curls really fast like that. Great job on the mods and bbob 2
oh hey.....i did this once for a friend's sheath and he loves it. I thought you might like to try it - Next trip out to the lumber store, ask them if you can have some of the steel banding they cut off the blocks of 2x4's. The banding is spring steel and flexes very well. Take it and insert it into the nylon retention straps. When you pop the snap or velcro, the spring strap "snaps open" and holds it there until you close them.
It blows my mind to see people talking about the OKC Old Hickory. I've had one since I was like 10 years old. I bought it at Walmart for field dressing wild game.
Steel eagle...If that doesn't shout 'Murica, I have no idea what does. That knife is a beast of beauty, I'm gonna need to get my hands on it some time soon.
Hey Chris... You are often taking about shock-cording your knife handles for control. I'm very interested in this, although I'm not sure how to go about it all. I usually just put a piece of 550 cord on my handles. Is there an advantage to shock-cord? Perhaps, in your time, you might can do a video about shock-cording the knife handles? ... Purpose of shock-cording vs. para-cord, which shock-cord materials you favor, and procedures you use? That would be a great! Thanks
The shock cord has an elasticity to it where paracord doesn't (as much). Shock cord, in my opinion, works a lot better for use as a knife, axe, etc. lanyard because of the tension it produces thereby keeping your hand, for all intents and purposes, "locked in" to the handle of the blade. And, if you haven't used either paracord or shock cord on your knives lanyard holes before, you will amazed at the added control you will have witj your blade (tool, hatchet, tomahawk, etc.) Hole that helps.
I have the version of the Steel Eagle with the saw on the spine, the 107C. While I do like having the saw, because it actually does work, the 107E is so much prettier!
Thanks for the old hickory/ka-bar sheath tip. I'll swing by your amazon market and pick mine up tomorrow. Add a Nalgene canteen and some Vaultz mesh storage bags and I'll make a clean sweep of it, lol. Thanks for the vids Chris.
It's just occurred to me that your stripping and polishing techniques have come up with a whole new class of blade finish - I like to call it "Liquid Steel"! That's yours, free of charge. Enjoy! Steel Eagle is the best example so far.
Hey Chris, could/would you do a review on the Tops Ucon Hawk axe/hatchet.? If you already have, my bad, but I can’t find it. I greatly appreciate your skills, abilities, and your opinions so it would greatly help in my decision to purchase such a expensive tool. Thanks, Nick
I have a steel eagle 107e and was wondering if it might fit in that kbar leather sheath that you bought for the old hickory. I dont wanna spend alot of money on a custom one for it.
what do you like better the Tops Silent Hero or the Steel Eagle? Thinking of getting one of them. How is the Silent Hero at batoning and chopping. I like it better but not sure about the handles on it tho.
Brody had a 107C in the movie Predators. The black finish on these tyoe of knives is there for a reason. The Steel Eagle 107 is made entirely of 1095 steel which is a high carbon steel. The high carbon is great for holding an extemely sharp edge through a ton of punishing tasks but, it rusts like hell. The black finish you removed helps prevent the knife from rusting. So you basically took a great survival knife and turned it into a pretty backyard knife. Awesome.
trey olson True but the coating has nothing to do with the tactical mumbo jumbo. Its there to help keep a majority of the blade from rusting, when in the shit, without having to put in an extra effort to keep that from happening. The whole "tactical" bs means nothing to me. I pay mind to it shape, weight, size, material, features, etc. Thats how you buy a knife.
id have to disagree the coating has alot to do with calling something tactical the same way if something is green its called a "zombie" blade there are plenty of better coatings and tops offers a couple of them on different knives but honestly if you have a high polish on your knife like him and you dry it off after use like you should even if there is coating then rust shouldnt be a problem unless you live somewhere where it is damp a lot
I have the Schrade bolo. Used it on blackberry vines. Didn't hate its performance ... wasn't super impressed either. It was going to be my mainstay SHTF blade, til I got my CS Chaos Kukri. Now this Schrade is no longer on the starting line-up.
i collect knives and since i dont have a steady paying job i dont have a regular income to purchase knives so i have been buying cheapie knives like smith and wesson or frost cutlery and i just recently bought the cold steel ti-lite from amazon and it is by far worth the price soo i have been wondering what a few good budget knives are
what knife would you recommend for someone on a tighter budget who can't afford $150+ on a blade to start learning some bushcraft skills? I now cheap is exactly that but on a tighter budget for the next little bit but still looking to grow the collection. thanks for any tips, just found the channel recently enjoying it thanks
Weren't knives more fun before ya became the PM101 guy... ? Seems like it, I love watching the oldies and my taste have come full circle I like BIG KNIVES like the BK7 they are perfect IMHO. Yes we all need a little blade but if ya really think about it the big ones just work .
Have you tried polishing clay? You can get 1 lb of extra fine off amazon for $10. Put it on a felt wheel or cotton strop wheel it's super easy and probably takes off less steel makes blades look like a mirror better than case knives! Food for thought
Awesome man I think you'll enjoy it! You can also touch up the edges of your knives with it and get it super sharp after some use instead of re sharpening.
How to make the perfect Knife tester: take two phone books and shuffle the pages together like on mythbusters, then wrap the shuffled books in a layer of duct tape lengthwise, and a second layer across the width, with the whole unit enclosed in tape, you may now test your knife against the block
I don't know. I wheel and deal. Some I get from companies. I bought a CRKT RMJ tactical tomahawk that I didn't like ($100) and traded it for that brand new Steel Eagle ($170). But lifetime? I'm sure I've spent $2000 easy. Especially since getting into better knives like TOPS.
Tom A if you decide you want a knife in that style please don't go and buy the Camillus carnivore it barely has a tang and what is has isn't even worthy of being called a rat tail that thing is junk don't know anything about the BK3 but the carnivore is the same style but junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael Mixson appreciate the advice,I have the bk3,I keep it my car kit..I think it is perfect for the vehicle..I'm sure someone has done a review on it.
Man, I love that TOPS Steel Eagle alot. I would trade in my custom Bk 2 & bk 7, and a few other things for it. Any ways I have to ask a question that you may not be able to answer. And I know this might be like an apples vs. oranges question. How would Becky compair to the TOPS Steel eagle. You can't not have a 9. But i think the TOPS S.E. Just might put Becky in her place. Or is the difference nominal especially when compaired to the price point? And don't worry mums the word. Because I know how some of those knuckle heads at the place we write are. They are a little supressive of even clear flaws. It should be called PR forums i swear lol.
It's not a waste if it wasn't a "good" coating to begin with. Also it is totally possible for him to change his mind down the road and recoat them with Duracoat or Saracoat if he wishes.
Key word here: "Durable". 99% of factory coatings are not durable. They are there to shortcut production. Polishing takes time. Black stuff is only worth having if you don't put your blades through wood. If you do, it'll rub and scrape off and look like shit. That Discord Machete actually had splinters embedded in the black coating. I do not see the point in it. It's just faster and easier for companies to coat a knife then finish the job.
PREPAREDMIND101 And consumers in the know and who have a little skill can buy some really inexpensive tools that they can modify into really good tools for very little money. This is one of the reasons that I like Condor very much.
Nice blade. So sick of every knife on Earth having the black finish. There are so many Tops knives I want, Armageddon, Steel Eagle, etc. that only come in the black finish. Other than using a sander, do you think taking a dremel to their blades can take the black off without damaging the blade?

Great vid! I'm really liking the channel. Good work man.I remember that knife from Predators. I looked it up after I saw that movie and was shocked to find it was 7". I thought it was 12"-15" long(blade length). Does that make Adrien Brody hobbit sized or what?
he uses 2 knives in the movie one while giving his hunting armed men speech and the large Machete/knife that was in the first predators movie that knife is a very large knife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So 10$ for the knife, and 10$ for the sheath. There are SO MANY other awesome bushcraft knives you could spend slightly more on and have last a lifetime!
The knife at like 14:00 where u did the burn marks on the handle. I feel like that handle us just begging to have a hand slip right over the blade. The blade begins almost the same width too. Shudder...
1. What does " Sharpened by Bryce mean ??? " 2. What would be be your #1 choice in a hand held sharpener to take out into the Bush to touch up a Scandinavia edge ?? Like the video !!
I took my old hick and rounded the handle made a finger grove not a choil lol and made it a drop point it's a nice cheap knife to have some fun with "KNIFEJUNKIE13"
Personally I think the old hick is more of a clip point or modified clip point not a drop point not mine looks like a tops scandi trekker "KNIFEJUNKIE13"
PREDATORS!! The video gets a thumbs up just for the predators comment. I've been a Predator fan boy sense I was about 8 years old. Fuck the knives I'm off to re watch the franchise.
I like your video's but it seems you are making too many video's on just knives. I would like to see more survival gear and surviving out in the woods, mountains ETC.
That's because it's primarily a gear review channel. The other stuff comes when it's convenient. Not going to be much field stuff in June as I'm preparing to move. LOTS in July/August.
Plus, people need to let go of the "RUclips as Survivorman" fantasy. No matter how it was done, it wouldn't be believed. And I've detailed many times why it is way harder to do then people think. The only real way to do it is to have a completely independent film crew, and how many youtubers can pull that off? I can barely manage camp if I'm trying to set up videos. As for knives.... knives have the most varied options of any survival gear category. Knives are the #1 most important item in said kit, and knives get more video views then any other part. There are filters, hammocks, and other stuff coming up. I do what's easiest in the limited time I have this month and I'm sitting on a pile of knives and flashlights and stuff that have to be reviewed.
This guy must be a pm101 noob ,Chris does gear reviews all the time this is BBOB 2 !!! And we been wanting it ! Just go into his playlist and see all the gear reviews you want and leave our BBOB alone !
I do not know if that tree is dead but I know that you have a lot of toys and you just beat a dead tree!!!!!!!!! .............. when some action??? ???
being me, im leary of trusting anyone doing bushcraft tasks or reviews of outdoor equipment that wears oaklys, underarmor and flashy t-shirts. Not only that but I haven't seen you max testing huge blades or brands you seem to prefer to any test my mora black can't do. plus you don't seem to field test. make a shelter, fire, anything. who cares what you know if you can't combine them to survive. my thoughts: your tests are very weak. prove me wrong.
This guy chops wood like a school girl and wants us to believe his capable to survive outside his back yard??? I knew a girl once that also had a fetish for knifes but didn´t made her a "blade expert" even after she bought a Go Pro also.. LOL. Lots of beautiful good knifes and bullshit talk from a Bear Grills wannabe weekend warrior. LOL. I´m so mean. I know. I just can´t help to comment what i think and I wasn´t the inventor of the commentary section...
Awesome cutting tools!

yep.. Steel Eagle was one of the blades that got me hooked... bought one in 2003... miss it..
Just had a marathon day of watching BBOB, thanks for all the videos you put up it's appreciated.
Enjoyed your Big Blade series, always fun to watch your videos brother.
Steel eagle...If that doesn't shout 'Murica, I have no idea what does. That knife is a beast of beauty, I'm gonna need to get my hands on it some time soon.

I want to see a destruction test for the old hickory butcher knife
Great review, just unbelievable how many part your making on this BBOB2. There not to long and easy to whatch. Nice going.
I've been looking at this knife for a little while. You've sold me on it. Definitely badass.
Dont remove the black finish. It's to keep the knife from rusting.
Squirrel window. Lol Dude your channel is my favorite.
I have the version of the Steel Eagle with the saw on the spine, the 107C. While I do like having the saw, because it actually does work, the 107E is so much prettier!

What type of oil do you suggest on high carbon blades? Do you clean them after every outing?

Hello! Is the spine on the steel eagle sharp enough to strike a ferro rod? Have you ever tried the model with the sawback? Cheers!!
Hoping for lots of videos over this summer
i liked the squirrel facts in the video they were really helpful
And that steal eagle is the bomb.
I have a steel eagle 107e and was wondering if it might fit in that kbar leather sheath that you bought for the old hickory. I dont wanna spend alot of money on a custom one for it.

CIV EDM you can prevent rust pretty easily if you know what your doing and i believe he lives in an area where its not a huge issue
trey olson Well i dont see a point in removing the coating merely for looks. Its there for a reason.
a lot of people dislike that every knife made now days is a "tactical" whatever the fuck
trey olson True but the coating has nothing to do with the tactical mumbo jumbo. Have you used the 107E anymore after that? Any update to what you think of it?
ive split 4-5 in. logs with my old hickory np ! so it will do the job its a tough blade.
Your bringing back the Becker brute lol as u said... I heard of it before and supposedly it's a beast!
Which butane torch did you use? Keep up the good work.
Yo Chris, you ever consider servicing knives? We ship it to you, you strip, etch, and sharpen it? Any thoughts?
I have the Schrade bolo. Used it on blackberry vines. Didn't hate its performance ... wasn't super impressed either. It was going to be my mainstay SHTF blade, til I got my CS Chaos Kukri. Now this Schrade is no longer on the starting line-up.

thanks
a schrade schf 26, condor bushlore, or condor kephart, and the mora bushcraft black are all well under 50$ an are great knives
I just ordered the steel eagle 107e and I haven't gotten it yet, I was just wondering what is the angle of the blade?
Weren't knives more fun before ya became the PM101 guy... ? Seems like it, I love watching the oldies and my taste have come full circle I like BIG KNIVES like the BK7 they are perfect IMHO. Yes we all need a little blade but if ya really think about it the big ones just work .
Haha I love these vids. Good job Chris. I really like how you always polish Your knifes. Have a good day
Have you tried polishing clay? You can get 1 lb of extra fine off amazon for $10. Put it on a felt wheel or cotton strop wheel it's super easy and probably takes off less steel makes blades look like a mirror better than case knives! Food for thought
No, but maybe I'll get some and try it. When we move in two weeks I want to get a bench grinder so I can get a polishing wheel. No room here.
Do you still have that steel Eagle? Interested in selling it?
You still have any of these
Chris, great videos, how about reviewing the Ontario gen II sp 51? Just got one and they batton like crazy...and chop like a meat grinder.
I want that Steel Eagle. thanks for the vid!
At about 5 minutes through, I think there is a snake in the background to his right by the tree
What's the blade length on that machete?
CHRIS YOU ARE FUNNY LOL WATCHING YOU SPLIT WOOD WITH THAT BIG KNIFE FUNNY BIG BAG OF BLADES
Hey Chris, I have notice that you have not, that I know of did a review on Kar Bar marine corp knives, I could be wrong, but I would like to see that
In movie "Predators" Adrien Brody use TOPS Steel Eagle 107C not Steel Eagle 107E.
How many knives do you have?????
On the second knife you shown, what was the model number and where to buy ?
Don't know the model number. The knife and the sheath are on page 9 of the fixed blade section of www.preparedmind101.com
I know its been long but the first blade how much
I love how you modified the sheath on the Steel Eagle.
Do you, or would you do that for a fee?
Did someone say Brute or Brutus Maximus!!!! Come, unite all ye BeckerHeads brute is coming !!!! I love the smell of brute in the morning!
just wondering what that handle is from that you've been using to baton wood with
rifelmans hawk that he broke on purpose to test a repair kit
Michael Mixson hey thank's man I've been wondering what it was for a while now
chris I just want to know how much do you have invested in knifes i guess you have at least $2000-2,500 invested?
you can spend that on knives easy so more than likely much much more
way more then that. If you buy quality blades that price range wont even get you a large collection.
I don't know. I wheel and deal. Some I get from companies. I bought a CRKT RMJ tactical tomahawk that I didn't like ($100) and traded it for that brand new Steel Eagle ($170).
But lifetime? I'm sure I've spent $2000 easy. Especially since getting into better knives like TOPS.
hey chris i was wondering what knife should i buy i have a $150 limit
astore.amazon.com/preparedmind1-20/detail/B005MKQICW
I'd go TOPS B.O.B.
Another awesome video...what are your thoughts on the BK3?
Don't see the need for it.
Michael Mixson appreciate the advice,I have the bk3,I keep it my car kit..I think it is perfect for the vehicle..I'm sure someone has done a review on it.
ok cool I just know times are tight right now and didn't want you to be in a store see the carnivore and think you could save yourself 20 or 30 bucks
I personally like a nice durable coating on my blades it just a waste of good coating if you strip them
It's not a waste if it wasn't a "good" coating to begin with. Also it is totally possible for him to change his mind down the road and recoat them with Duracoat or Saracoat if he wishes.

tops mx4 punisher please
wow, what a beast!
whats the name of the Secound knive in your vid pls ?
Nice blade. So sick of every knife on Earth having the black finish. There are so many Tops knives I want, Armageddon, Steel Eagle, etc. that only come in the black finish. Other than using a sander, do you think taking a dremel to their blades can take the black off without damaging the blade?
Use Jasco paint and epoxy remover, it wont dmg the blade
The black finish is to keep the knives from rusting! There is a reason why every knife on earth has a black finish. If you want a knife without a black finish, buy a stainless steel knife. This is a 1095 high carbon steel blade. It will rust to shit out in the sticks without the finish.
Paint stripper will do the trick. They are much improved when stripped of that nasty coarse coating.
Great vid! I'm really liking the channel. Good work man.I remember that knife from Predators. I looked it up after I saw that movie and was shocked to find it was 7". I thought it was 12"-15" long(blade length). Does that make Adrien Brody hobbit sized or what?
he uses 2 knives in the movie one while giving his hunting armed men speech and the large Machete/knife that was in the first predators movie that knife is a very large knife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cool big knife, nice pimping btw :)
quick thing, what schrade calls a bolo is actually barong style. just saying.
"I am fresh out of animals to test this knife"
Sweet
i'm thinking tops could do the same knife for half the price easy !
I think you just sold me a tops steel eagle. My wife is going to be up set with you
Why would i want to baton if i got an axe??
So 10$ for the knife, and 10$ for the sheath.
There are SO MANY other awesome bushcraft knives you could spend slightly more on and have last a lifetime!
I agree. I did it because it's popular for some reason. Still haven't figured out why.
I learned that squirrels tend to get stinky
Good vid... but id take that dead tree down before it takes your shed down!
Steel Eagle 107e...or the Becker BK7???
Steel eagle, destruction test I watched on bk7 didn't go do well
The knife at like 14:00 where u did the burn marks on the handle. I feel like that handle us just begging to have a hand slip right over the blade. The blade begins almost the same width too. Shudder...
Nowhere near as dicey as the Mora SL2 which everyone is so fond of.
i'm gonna pick up one of those butcher knives sometime next week and i think i may wrap the handle to avoid this
ive had mine for years and never had a hand slip ! i dont think it is an issue.
1. What does " Sharpened by Bryce mean ??? "
2. What would be be your #1 choice in a hand held sharpener to take out into the Bush to touch up a
Scandinavia edge ??
Like the video !!
I took my old hick and rounded the handle made a finger grove not a choil lol and made it a drop point it's a nice cheap knife to have some fun with
"KNIFEJUNKIE13"
what do you mean made it a drop point ? it was already a drop point!
Personally I think the old hick is more of a clip point or modified clip point not a drop point not mine looks like a tops scandi trekker
"KNIFEJUNKIE13"
1st knife name
when I removed the black coating it immediately start to rush personal experience
PREDATORS!! The video gets a thumbs up just for the predators comment. I've been a Predator fan boy sense I was about 8 years old. Fuck the knives I'm off to re watch the franchise.
the butcher sounds akward while carving

Not only that but I haven't seen you max testing huge blades or brands you seem to prefer to any test my mora black can't do. plus you don't seem to field test. make a shelter, fire, anything. who cares what you know if you can't combine them to survive. my thoughts: your tests are very weak. prove me wrong.
Please, Chris. Less about you, more about product thanks - yawn...
That thing is garbage!
Oh and ur a an expert
FYI he actually is a knife expert cause he is a knife designer
