    I remember Andy from Inner Bark Outdoors doing a review on that knife years ago, however Aaron, you knocked it out of the park with this one. Ive been eye balling that knife since it came out, but didnt like the serrations so I never bought one. Glad they offer a fine edge, definitely something to consider when I get a new toy, lol.

      I think it was always a option? Anyways, I have the serrations, and they're a partial 1.5 inch section of really nice serrations. They are not too small, and they alternate convex/concave. I'd highly recommend this knife, I've had mine for over 10 years! I just need a better (ie kydex or maybe leather) sheath, as I'm on my second codura style one and it's in need of replacement. Although, TOPS did switch out the previous one for free! They're really top class, pun intended.

      Between my SXB and Operator 7, I pretty much forgotten about this knife. I agree, definitely need something more than the cordura sheath, I can imagine a nice leather sheath for it.

    I LOVE my Szabo Combat Knife! TOPS rocks, I've had this knife over 10 years, and the only thing is some scratching on the coating and the micarta handle slabs are a dark, dark gray, with lighter gray in the grip channels. This is from oil, and wiping it all down when cleaning the knife. I really love the way it looks, and of course, how it performs.
    I've had the unsharpened swedge sharpened into a false-edge and it still batons like a champ.
    Now if I'd only had pulled the trigger on the Szabo Folder by Spyderco....

  • @TheHallofTyr
    @TheHallofTyr 6 лет назад +5

    Apparently you forgot that Kabar answered themselves with the BK7 aka . I'd take the $135msrp ($80 street) BK7 over the $255msrp ($160 street) Tops made from a lesser steel (BK7 is 1095 CroVan compared to just generic 1095 with the Tops). Both come with similar sheaths and the BK7 can sport micarta scales as well and still come in cheaper. Also the BK7 has a lanyard hole and is 4oz lighter because it doesn't have an extra 0.06" of unnecessary blade material. Tops tried but Kabar still did it better.

    • @bzebarth
      @bzebarth 6 лет назад +1

      I agree. Everytime I look at Tops knives I can't get past the price. It always seems I can get a comparable knife for way less. This being twice the price of a bk7 makes no sense and for $160 it ought to at least come with a decent sheath.

    • @frozenturtlefarts1025
      @frozenturtlefarts1025 6 лет назад +2

      I held the Bk7 and it was nice. But out of ESEE, Tops, and KABAR I would take TOPS anyday. I have a ESEE 6, KABAR USMC, and a TOPS Apache falcon. You won't notice anything between 1095 and 1095 cro-van. Trust me I looked for it. Also there are so many Tops out there that you can buy them on the secondary market for a good price. Plus the micarta handles are an extra 40+ bucks and $67 dollars for G10 scales. Why not just pay a little more and have the whole package. The kabar sheath is still cheap too. The stock handles for the bk7 are so awful in my opinion, they feel slippery and Kraton is even worse. My friends dog chewed up his kraton handle and hair sticks to it. Had a snapping turtle bite my ESEE 6 micarta handle and it didn't even scratch it.

      @@frozenturtlefarts1025 I hand sharpen all my blades and have normal 1095 and multiple CroVan blades and can attest to the fact that CroVan is harder to sharpen AND holds an edge longer. It's also stronger with less material

      @frozenturtlefarts1025 6 лет назад

      @@TheHallofTyr Edge retention sure, but stronger and/or tougher? Idk about that I have had both the tips of my KABAR and TOPS hit concrete. The Tops did better and was easier to fix. The TOPS chipped a little, but the KABAR bent/ had tiny little chip. I also sharpen both and the difference is still small. Sorry, but I have yet to see real world difference. When I can bend the KABAR at the tang and guard area with my hands. The BK7 would be a better comparison

    Love the review but i will say the kabar knife here is the ulitmate fighting knife due to its quick weight and less weight in the blade and a very slight handle weight balance in ratio to blade weight. its quick and severe and the tip penetrates flesh brutally. it has very quick snap cuts and over all combat relation. the tops looks great but its too bulldozer to be a feel good knife for fighting. it seems more like a survival knife. its big heavy and thick. in the marines the tops looks reliable but a bit heavy. though the tops looks like fun!

      True, but if one breaks then you have people saying it is shit and wont last. I think companies over build things because people treat their knives like crowbars therefore they make them like crowbars. Like when people complain they break their PM2 tips. I mean just look at the blade, it is meant for slicing not prying paint cans.

    I have the Serrated version but would have preferred the straight edge, the serrations are the "ESEE" style so are still very useful and durable for chopping. I find it a little harder to sharpen than an ESEE in 1095 but that's whatever. I wear large size gloves and for me, if you wear gloves with padded palms its a little on the beefier side but that's not a deal breaker. Fits beautifully in a spec-ops large size sheath, the sheath it came from is a little less than meh. This is a WW3 knife and as a weapon, in my under qualified over opinionated internet big mouth opinion its pretty much a sharpened baton that you can stab with, I wouldn't over think it, I'd hate to be on the other end of it. Thanks for the review Gideon, love this knife.

    That knife that you showed in the nylon sheath is a completely different knife than the Tops US combat knife. Yet you're comparing the two sheaths.

      The nylon sheath is the regular sheath that comes with the US combat knife

    KA-BAR hands down. Impossible to improve. Or in other words the Ka-Bar is the refinement of the expensive pry bar.

    Wow... the “large sized gloves” assurance, reduced to a grey area... What next? The links in the description not helping the channel?

    Dont think there is record in last 50 years of military combat anyone using a knife to stab a bad guy because of last resort or other. By time anyone armed gets to fight with a knife is probably better of digging his own grave with it.
