In a different life, someone defined for me what a Combat knife was. "It' s just a knife, what matters is what you use it for, gutting a pig or gutting a man. When I was in the belgian military, my go-to knife was a Gerber Prodigy. It did really well in any tasks: survival courses, trenching exercises and I even won a knife throwing contest (after a long drinking session with my unit). I find it quite handy, not too large, pretty light and the sheath was very good (silent and tough). I carried it on my right side at mid thigh level and I'm one of those lucky lefties who uses their left hand for precision (p.e. handgun) and their right hand for power (punching, stabbing, etc). Thanks for your video, I finally decided to subscribe even if I don't always agree. And sorry for the broken english.
I had a prodigy as well and I absolutely loved that thing. Really miss that knife. It got more use and time than any other knife I ever carried. Definitely one of those diamond in the rough knives.

But my favorite knifes in this video would probably be the Schrade hollow handle survival knife, the Gerber LHR Combat knife and your Dbad War Machine. I love those designs.
After several deployments i can simply say it is a knife that you feel comfortable with out in the field. It can hold up, hold and edge, be used in different applications and hold an edge. It’s been a great companion for me since i got it in 2019 and now is retired locked up in my Grandpas WWII USMC foot locker with my armor and some other gear from Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, take a look at halfbreed, they are from Australia, expensive and a bit heavy plus shipping takes a bit, but they are awesome if your camping or need a good fixed blade to carry, most are D2 steel, some are super steel, but they look mean and are incredibly durable, Rambo would be proud to carry one loll. @Donnie B All Day Thanks for your answer to my question, Donnie! But how would blade strikes on a fairly sturdy dual edged blade like the CS Shanghai Shadow damage the blade as compared to a a single edged bowie knife (with a sturdy spine)? I have seen the Cold Steel Shanghai Shadow get used in RUclips videos for bushcraft activities like chopping wood and the edge still remained functional and sharp after all that continuous abuse. Also, would the ostensibly superior thrusting capability of a dual-edged dagger over a single-edged bowie through an enemy wearing 4 layers of denim clothing (as used in FBI bullet vs ballistic gelatin testing) mitigate this weakness? It seems like a lot of real life knife fights seen from surveillance videos are mostly oriented to thrusting as opposed to striking or slashing with the blade.
I did a video where I clashed the edges of two great blades. Both suffered damage. I then did a video where I used the spine of a Bowie to snap another knife completely in half. No damage to the Bowie spine. The thinner the steel, the more damage it could take. Samurai in movies show drawn out sword fights clashing steel for 10 minutes. In real life, they would try and end a fight in seconds and not clash blades to preserves their edges.
Combat Knife and Army 🪖 knife Are BOTH a same Knife .. ?? And TACTICAL Knife for Jungle uses ( wild survival ). " Combat Knife VS Tactical Knife " Which is Better ? And More useful ??
You know what i do you would be surprised how good a knife it makes file the serrations off with a flat mill bastard and sharpen that spot kinda looks like a tracker knife but better and looks awesome
Can anyone tell me the specific definitions and differentiating characteristics between a tactical knife, fighting knife, combat knife, field knife, and utility knife? Are they all in their own separate categories or is it like an "all fighting knives are combat knives but not all combat knives are fighting knives" kind of thing? The knife industry uses the buzzwords fighting, combat, field, utility, and tactical interchangeably which makes each word seem meaningless. Side question: Where would you say small daggers or karambits like the Benchmade SOCP Combo fit in to the whole "tactical knives" spectrum? I occasionally hear them called PDW (personal defense weapon I assume) knives.
That would be one long answer. Some fighting knives are built purely as offensive tools. Therefore all fighting knives aren't combat knives. Companies try and sway buyers through wording and defending their stances by saying all fighting is "combat". Bullshit. Its not "combat' to shiv someone in the back, yet some blades are made for that purpose. Half of it is just money making schemes
I carried the issued Benchmade nimravus in Iraq. What are your thoughts on that knife? It was light, nimble and good for utility. Never used it in combat.
Is a naive teenager, when I first joined the Infantry, I embarked on a quest to find the single, most perfect, all-around, be all, do all military field knife. It took my young, dumb ass about 2 years to figure out that there's simply no such fuckin thing! I came to the realization that it's all about having the right tool for the specific job. After a shitload of field tests, I finally whittled my collection down and, for my last three combat deployments, my kit always included four specific knives... Buckmaster 184- used for pounding, chopping and sawing. Hell, I even used the primary cutting edge to cut the metal bands off our ammo crates on a couple of occasions. I ditched the bulky plastic sheath and used a Blackhawk nylon Molle-compatible jump sheath and had it strapped to the left torso of my body armor. CKRT M16-10KS folder- 7 inches overall with a partially serrated tanto tipped blade for smaller cutting duties carried in a nylon sheath with velcro closure that was a securely strapped onto the front of my jump sheath. Gerber multiplier- basically a mini tool box with a cap-crimper that was always attached to my rigger's belt in it's company-provided nylon sheath worn next to the rear belt loop at the small of my back. Cold steel recon tanto- I carried this in case my operational world ever went to shit and I found myself actually having to knifefight somebody. That razor sharp cutting edge could really piece somebody up and, if the occasion called for it, that thick-ass tanto tip would be capable of penatrating skull bone. Thankfully, I never had to take that one out of its sheath except to wipe it down occasionally. I carried that one in its' kydex sheath secured to the leg strap right in front of my sidearms' blackhawk drop-holster. Everyone has their own personal favorites and preferences but those four items were the ones that I personally came to appreciate and, through three deployments, they never let me down. Its great seeing videos from a fellow knife enthusiast. Rock on,brother!
If there was an investigation into the fight, the bodies could be checked for wound types, but honestly, that pretty much doesn't happen. Many of us dont even report if we got into a scrap because Obama screwed us when he changed the rules of engagement. Guys don't want to go to prison for defending themselves.
A knife you should check out is by italian knife company BLACK FOX the knife is called AMADORI it's a best of a knife spear point you wont be disappointed.
A good combat knife: non slip handle; good cross guard; a seven to nine inch blade; holds an edge; full tang. On the other hand a good two inch push dagger will destroy a grappler.
Cool vid. Will there be a fighting knife component to this? I'd be curious to see the differences there, considering "fighting knife" gets tossed around a lot.

Very good. 1. the skill is in the person, not the tool. You mentioned more people are killed with shovels in combat than with knives. Ok. I have had training in folder, fixed blade, khukri, entrenching tool, sword fighting and fighting from the ground with a tool with the opponent standing. The strike movements are essentially the same and limited by human ergonomics. So, you can learn the basic movements (ignoring the addition of concepts like jujitsu added in) very easily. 2. A trained person can be dangerously with a 4 inch fixed blade as well as a movie Rambo type knife. In your life, a combat knife is going to be the one you deploy when you are in a fight. So, you had better start working on situational awareness to avoid an encounter and take some basic classes over and over again in escrima to learn how to deliver blows with a stick or a knife.
I left fighting with a 14-0 record and a belt to call my own. There's one thing I know about fighting, a guy with no training can still whoop up on a blackbelt. It doesn't come down to training as much as it does the sheer will to not lose. I was lucky enough to have trained with some of the best, but I've seen guys get there hands raised whose only fight training was at a bar. And most deaths come from blunt objects from guys who never even played little league. Sometimes the lucky shot wins
Donnie, what about the Gerber Mark I versus the Gerber Mark II? You probably know the story, but during the Vietnam conflict, GIs bought the Mark I in the BX, PX, Naval Exchange whatever. Then the exchanges quit selling the Mark I because they looked too scary, and they were obviously meant for one purpose only. Then Gerber re-designed them with serrations so they didn't look so scary so that the exchanges would continue to sale them. Funny, but I guess the exchanges were happy selling knives that were against the "laws of warfare".
Q? I realize when you are talking "fighting/combat " you are referencing MODERN combat vs say 19th century combat which brings me to my question, would you carry a bowie into combat? For instance a cold steel trailmaster? I hooked up my san mai trailmaster with a Cleveland kydex Molly compatible sheath, sharpened swedge, and edc it all the time to the point i forget its there. But i don't walk around with combat gear on either.. In my mind, the Dbad war machine would be considered a bowie blade.
I wouldn't carry one in 'my' combat because I was an MRAP operator. Being big is hard enough when getting in and out. Having large attachments makes it worse. I did though carry a Bowie in my pocket every now and then. The Cold Steel XL Espada
they did. Thats why I have a separate video, combat vs fighting knives. "Combat" knife is a general term. Combat fighting knife, describes a singular form of combat knife, the same as combat utility.
@@jurianj6048 All Bowies are fighting knives first. They are generally weighted towards the front and offer great swing weight. They are too big and bulky for combat applications but great out in the open
every knife is defensive. They aren't made to attack, but to defend. Shoes and bricks are defensive when needed. Get into a fight and you'll see whats good for defense.

Hey brother, how does LMF II fill the hand?

I carried the issued Benchmade nimravus in Iraq. What are your thoughts on that knife? It was light, nimble and good for utility. Never used it in combat.
I never got a chance to use that one
Absolutely brother. Finding the perfect knife is the same day you find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Hi, I have a question if u don’t Mind. I appreciate the Geneva conversation but how would they actually know what was used to end a foe?
If there was an investigation into the fight, the bodies could be checked for wound types, but honestly, that pretty much doesn't happen. Many of us dont even report if we got into a scrap because Obama screwed us when he changed the rules of engagement. Guys don't want to go to prison for defending themselves.

A good combat knife: non slip handle; good cross guard; a seven to nine inch blade; holds an edge; full tang. On the other hand a good two inch push dagger will destroy a grappler.

Hy bro! What knives are most used by soldiers?
There isn't a single one. There's no regular issue, like with firearms. Most military personnel will never be issued a blade, so it comes down to special operations within the units. When I was in Afghanistan, only 9 of us were issued a blade

A better knife than the KA-BAR. I have no idea why a "combat" knife has such a long thin tip though. More of a 'fighting" than 'combat in every way. I love the scales, hat the sheath and not crazy about the pointy edges on the exposed pommel. The only other thing is the top guard. Either make it smaller or do away with it.
@@DonnieBAllDay, gotcha, yeah I don't like sheath, getting someone to make me one,I do love the scales, the guard isn't a issue for me,I Believe they could have left the pommel tang shorter for lanyard, not everyone is gonna use it like a skull crusher, thanks Donnie, also yeah I had wished they didn't make tip too thin, for like prying an what not

Donnie, I understand weight is always an issue, but why not carry more than one knife?
You can. I kept a fixing and a pocket, but if you only have one, it better be the right one
Very good. 1. the skill is in the person, not the tool.
I wish I had both here

Who makes that paratrooper knife?
If you mean the EK, EK
Different knifes had different uses from the fighting knifes to the bayonets to trench knives in ww1 .
