    It surprised me to see the winner having such design, I must admit! It is refreshing to see something different. Looks heavy duty. Great surrounding, like a working area, it just asks for bushcraft. Thanks for sharing.

    I had purchased th8s knife some yeara ago and while I'm not a bushcraft survivalist, I keep it under the rear seat compartment in my truck as an emergency knife along with a folding shovel, tomahawk, a kukri machete, space blanket, glow sticks, etc. I have several Tops knives and they are beasts. Tops, Benchmade, and Sly steel are the 3 brands I buy.

    In the last month this commenter and reviewer just broke two OKC knives performing some very basic bushcraft tasks i.e. batoning. Wow. These were both knives that would have been relied on in the backcountry setting. Never again. Thanks to this review, and a few others, and following much salivating, a Steel Eagle Delta has been ordered. Many thanks for this fine review!

    Great video and content! I have the exact same model and not only is that saw back great for notching but it is really effective for hunting and fishing as it tears and does a lot of internal organ damage as well as holds fish well when spearing them. this knife is a massive intimidator and most human threats will be deterred just seeing this knife. I own a lot of expensive knives but my eagle is my favourite go-to and if the SHTF then it is my number one reliable true survival knife.

Gets harder and harder to justify purchases now especially when she gets that bark river crusader in the mail while I'm at work this week😂

    First off, TOPs makes an amazingly tough knife that gets the job done and then some. However, as a defensive blade this one comes up a bit short. Let me explain, the saw back when thrusting gets hung up on clothing and/or thick hairy skin on the withdrawal which can be very dangerous for the user. I also can't help but wonder if it wouldn't be even better without the saw or the choil, another inch of cutting edge and bringing the edge closer to the handle would have the same effect as a choil.
    However, as you display, other than being super thick the saw does work. I actually don't mind saw back blades, they just are not my first choice for a defensive blade.

    I've been going back and forth on the Steel Eagle for a general purpose survival/bugout knife. Looks like a great knife. Thanks for sharing this video. Also, what knife do you have strapped on your right side? Looks like something larger, like a BK9, Armageddon, Junglas?

    • @ochocobushcraft1742
      @ochocobushcraft1742  3 года назад

      Armageddon was on my side.

    My initial thought was that your runner-up, the bk10 was a much better value. However, after factoring in the cost of a good sheath (bc the stock sheath is terrible) and some better scales, the bk10 ends up about $220. That's about the same as the steel eagle, so now I have some thinking to do. Did you test the Esee 6 with tkc scales? Curious to hear your thoughts. Great videos. Keep up the good work.

  • @centralwashingtonmodernbus9456
    @centralwashingtonmodernbus9456 4 года назад

    OK, Dan, maybe dumb question, but one to think on. A knife usually has an edge for slicing light chopping etc. An axe or hatchet is best for chopping. If I build the knife I am planning on, it will have a 1/4 in thick blade, 12 inches long made of A1 steel hardened to about 56-58 RC. I mainly want it to do what I really don't want to do with a knife! My plan is to make a combo edge, a flat grind that is left thicker on the edge and make a convex final edge like a very sharp hatchet. A slight chance that it will have a std type flat grind right at the first inch and a half to two inch, next to the handle for fine work, but that's usually a job for my customized BK16. What are your thoughts on this type of an edge after you have used this knife and others primarily as a chopping blade. It will have a basic BK type handle made from a linen or canvas micarta. If we ever meetup, I'll let you play with it! I make leather and mainly now use Kydex!
