The Dramatic Moment the Rescued Elephants React to the Scent of Wild Elephants 🐘

- While out walking through the bush, the rescued herd encounter a strange scent that causes them great alarm. Matriarch Tokwe is the first to react, followed by Lundi, Fishan and eventually Zindoga and then Jabulani. In these cases, elephants typically react to a threat by coming together, shaking their heads from side to side, ears outstretched, temporal lobe glands secreting, accompanied by some rumbling, urinating and defecating. Lundi shows this clearly in her reaction as the herd try to decipher how severe the threat is, if it is close, etc.
Adine and the team believe it must be the scent of the wild elephants that they're reacting to as the herd were seen passing through this area very recently. The rescued herd and wild herd don't get on and will try to avoid one another - especially if there are calves in the herd.
Since the Jabulani herd roam the reserve during the daylight hours each day, foraging, walking, swimming and bonding, they do on occasion come across the wild elephants.

Watch the continued walk as little Khanyisa walks between her great gentle giant family and pushes past Limpopo to get closer to Timisa up front.
Thank you for explaining their Alerts and reactions. So cute finally spotting baby's pretty pink ears. Blessings...
Most powerful. Most majestic.
Precious Mighty gentle beautiful elephants ❤️
Wonderful to see them receiving a second chance and as close to a natural one as possible
Tokwe, Lundi and Fishan make such a great team; Lundi and Fishan always there to back up Tokwe. It’s a beautiful relationship. Then, the next priority after accessing the situation, protecting the baby of the herd. Gotta love these dynamics!❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
Seeing them gather to protect and care for the wee ones never ceases to move my soul.
As loving and motherly as Tokwe is, NEVER forget her willingness to fight anything that might threaten her herd. She is one tough cookie.
They're so brave n protective n loving. They work together so easily. Little Khanyisa is one tough baby girl n she knows she's protected. TYSM HERD, for explaining, commenting n showing us another lovely n pensive moment in the herd. WE LUV ALL OF U.
A beautiful proud animal, elegant giants with so much intelligence.
These Gentle Giants are a force to be reckoned with when they feel threatened. AMAZING! I absolutely LOVE them all!🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤🐘❤
Thanks for sharing this majestic and beautiful animals God Bless You
IT'S TRULY AMAZING TO WATCH THE ELEPHANTS JUST MOVING AND SHAKING UP THE WILD BUSH‼ AND BEHAVING AS ONLY THEY KNOW HOW TO!!!…AWESOME FOOTAGE!!!😃😍🐘🐘🐘🌳🙋👍🇺🇸
então Bush 😮 certo.#💵🧙
Why are you yelling!? You're hurting my eyes! Lol 👀😣😄
The sight of these incredible gentle giants moving through the reserve is one that never fails to take my breath away their intelligence and sense of protection for each other is incredible and immediate after coming across the scent of the wild ones. As soon as they realize all is well it’s back to foraging(love the shot of Jabu reaching his trunk skyward for tasty branches)and the daily adventures resume of course with Khanyisa Braveheart right up front in the middle of the protected wall of big gray bodies as safe as can be. Thank you as always for these special insights into the herd dynamics/behavior I’m constantly learning something new about these iconic creatures I love soaking up as much pachyderm knowledge as I can it never gets boring.🐘🐘❤️❤️🌈🌈
Shannon Dominguez 🌷I totally agree with your beautiful comment! ❤They are incredibly majestic and I love them so much❤🐘🌿
Si a tutto Shannon.👍👋
Shannon, wow you said this beautifully and so on point. I love and agree with every word you wrote. ✌🏻
@@annsmarpat9500 Aww thank you so much Im not sure why but whenever I write about the herd the words just flow so easily I’ve always used writing as an outlet but these beautiful elephants really do inspire me to write in a way I never realized they would they’re the perfect subjects and incredible teachers.❤️❤️
@@fabienneroure9995 They truly are amazing it’s like they have this magical hold on us once they’ve drawn you in it’s forever.❤️❤️
I am so proud of you all! Thank you!❤❤❤
I love how Zindoga was not only aware and ready for any battle, but he went behind his Mom and protected her back. We can never take for granted the gallantry of Fishan, who after all has a disadvantage in his injured leg. Yet he will fight for and beside Tokwe and Lundi. I was relieved to see Jabu and Zindoga back up not only the ladies, but Fishan. I think they took their cues from Fishan on what to do. Fishan is the man. The thing about Fishan is he never causes disturbances or stresses out the females. He is mellow but more than able to defend his Herd at all times. Bubi, Tokwe and Lundi know this about our gallant Fishan.
I always feel so good each and every time I view your videos about elephants. They truly magnificent creatures that NEED to be protected and preserved. THANK YOU for your efforts to inform others of the importance of your Nobel work. 👍🤩🍀👌
I love seeing the elephant's reactions when they pick up scents & their protective instincts are amazing. It would be fascinating to see the herd & the wild herd when they are in close proximity. ❤️🐘
I recently watched a doco on how elephants use the feet vibrations to hear and that if there is a threat that they pick up by their feet that they know that the threat is further away as this communication is the longer distance than scent and hearing . Wild elephants use it to time their different times at watering holes so not to come across each other. Extraordinary when you think about it. They actually know that if they are picking up vibrations through their feet that it’s a greater distance than their trunk or ears can decipher. Smart animals.
I knew some about the feet, but not that herds used it to avoid running into each other. That's amazing.
Sometimes I think we must look very stupid to them. There are worlds of communication that we completely miss ...
@@melodiefrances3898 lol. True I’m sure we are stupid for the things we do to one another and nature.
Fishan is one of my favorite adult elephants. I do admire what was done for him and his resilience. A brave, strong elephant.🥰😍
Thankyou so much for showing us these wonderful animals.
I love seeing their reactions when they pick up scents and threats and show their protective instincts gathering together. They’re so interesting.
Great video as always.
Have a great day, Herd friends. 🐘🧡🐘💜🐘❤️🐘
Wow, this is awesome 🐘🐘🐘
Just love elephant's....they have such good memory... they are so special,
loving animals to be with.😍♥️♥️
Such majestic animals. Thank you
Love these beings(The Herd), they are such a strong unit together 😃❤💪🙏full of love.
I love how most of them are not blood related yet they protect and include each other as one big family. We need to take notice and treat each other this way. Beautiful animals.
@@bari2883 same here!...the ties that bind sometimes can be stronger than even blood!
@@davidnierzwick2775 absolutely. I’ll try and make this short. I’m so much closer to my best friend than my brother and only sibling. My mother had a break down from staying in an abusive marriage for 26 yrs to keep the stigma off her kids as divorce back then was taboo. My brother felt embarrassed as we come from a small country town and he didn’t want his mother associated with mental illness. When she got out of hospital I had to quit my job and move interstate to care for her as he who lived 5 min from her disowned her. One time we were at the shopping centre with bags full of food and it was poring rain I saw my brother and asked if he could drive us home which was maybe 7 min from there. He replied” I’ve got to get to work” and sat in his car for another 10 mins as his Mother and only sibling his younger sister I was 19 stood in the rain waiting for a taxi. I was so shook I was shaking it was like looking at a stranger.
Awwwww!!! Little Pink Ear popping up like an antenna!! @3:54
Bless you Adine! I really love watching this herd!! I am learning so much about Elephants!! Thank you!! 🐘🐘🐘❤💝💖
Thank you for watching Jodi so glad to hear our videos are informative and that you enjoy them so much 😊🐘🐘💕
@@herdelephantorphanage I absolutely love your channel!! Yours is the best on RUclips!!! 🐘🐘🐘❤💝💖🐘🐘🐘
They are so incredibly beautiful! Other peoples’ comments are saying this better than I can. It’s just amazing to watch these creatures. It’s also wonderful to know they are being watched out for every single day and , at least for now, no hunter will ever hurt or “harvest” them.
C Casey, your comment is just fine. Couldn’t have said it better myself
Ditto, Casey! Ditto, Lisa!
#BanIvoryTrade #SAVEtheElephant
You said it beautiful because it came right from your heart ♥️♥️♥️
@@NowIAmAwake Well, thank you.
I think you expressed how we feel quite beautifully. 🐘💙🙏🌍
It was fascinating to see the line of defense form and the stepping up to fill in gaps in the line. I think they’re actually incredibly quite brave, especially considering the “originals” grew up under the care of humans. Even though they’re terrified, they get on the ready. Fishan, coming up although his injury makes him so vulnerable. Lundi, as nervous as she gets, crossing the path to the front. They are really something.
True = Together Strong Jabu Herd! 💞🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘💞
Look at those lovely warrior ears...just beautiful!
Absolutely loved it! It was too short. I could watch them all day, that heavy, sure, calm presence. What magnificent and intelligent life forms. The early morning light and the brush - I could almost smell that wilderness. When it rains, the smell of the dry earth must be glorious. What great work you are doing, Adine. Identifying the elephants was great - like family members now. Its was sad to know this is like a group of parentless foster children, but at least they have each other. Khanyisa has been well integrated into the herd now and has her bodyguards. How protective they are of her. A very endearing sight, this herd.
All i can say is, Magnificent! 🥰
I love watching Khanyisa confidently push her way through the herd. She knows she's loved and protected. 🥰
Thank you, Keepers.
💕🇺🇲
What a beautiful ellie family. Khanyisa knows, she is loved and cared that is why she naps without any worries. I can’t wait for baby Phabeni to feel the same way, hopefully he will soon discover what an amazing family the universe has gifted him!!!🥰🐘🌟🍀🙏🏻
Lovely presentation about these beautiful and clever animals, thanks 👍
We are so blessed to be on this planet, everything on it matters, respect life!
Family/Team always together for any threat, Baby Sunshine push her way toward the front. "Blessing to all"
🥰 Bless you on the sneeze. I love their maternal and their protecting instincts! We need a lot more humans like them.
Stay healthy and safe out there! ☮️ Peace Always~
Always fascinating to see the Herd react to their surroundings and I always appreciate the extra information in the description box 🙏 Didn't realise the Herd and the wild herds don't get on. The early morning light is, indeed, beautiful out there as we enjoy another virtual walk with this special family ❤🐘❤
Hi khanyisa ❤️ hi all of you 🍀 🍀 🍀 they are formidable. Intelligent.
That was amazing... The herd truly takes no chances! And given their pre-HERD histories, I can't blame them🌞 thanks so much ❤️🇺🇲
It’s an honor to see one of the last megafauna left on earth. It’s humbling.
This herd instinctively group together to keep everyone safe. Once the danger has passed they continue to forge on. Jabulani grabs a branch and moves on. Khaynisa is safely in the middle. Thank you for this great video.❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️
Breathtaking ....
Believe me in saying, that I’ve never seen a elephant
In real life ..
Breathtaking
🐘💕💕🐘
That was quite exciting when they thought there was another herd around. I love when I see our little sunshine in the middle of the herd being protected by her family. Great video Nadine, thanks 🙏
Most awesome beautiful creatures 💕!
Hi! What A Beautiful Sighting , they keep you smile smiling!😄😄🐘🐘i love the herd and care takers too. Thanks for sharing and showing so much love hor this herd. Hugs and Prayers God Bless You All! Keep It Up ! Khanyisa suppose to be in front .🐘🐘
I just love watching them. It is so comforting and beautiful. I love when an elephant picks up the scent of danger and every elephant in their own way steps up to protect the herd. Tokwe and khanyisa together are cute beyond measure. It’s like having your grandmother at your side. All the allomothers are. Its so sweet.
Beautiful team work as always! Thank you HERD
Cxxx
Does Fishan have pain in his leg???? It was incredible how there was total silence when the threat was observed, wonderful thank you. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia (71 yrs)
It's ok, Tok. You've got your humans along to be sure that you all are safe. 🙂💕🐘
Adine = Elephant Mama 8^))
I learned something today. Amazing! Thank you
Elephants are so amazing!
Nothing emphasized the sensitivity of scent of the elephants that Adine's leg injury and the response. I am always amazed at how quietly elephants and other animals move over the land. For me these video represent not just learning but seeing the protection of a country's resources from being drained and then left exhausted for short term economic gain. Eco tourism is a growing interest from what I read. Can anything compare with being in the presence of the fullness we see with HERD.
Thanks!
So beautiful to see again. I lost track of the herd. But I'm back to catch up❤️. I can't believe how Big Khanyisa has grown. I'm so glad the herd is doing so well. Adine you truly are the doting mother. Greetings from the 🇺🇲.
Amazing how they protect each other ...love them !!!
brilliant ad a good alert - and then still remained cautious
Another beautiful morning with the beautiful herd gracing the landscape. How wonderful to be able to share in this even though I’m thousands of miles away!😘❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️
este away falso aí está debaixo de Weapons Nuclear. tá na minha Mira.#
Adine have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. You're a Mother to many.....🐘💅❤️🌹🌹💐
This family is incredible, the elephant part, and the human part that help them out!
Thank you so much 🙂🐘
By far my favorite RUclips channel and favorite elephant channel. Partly because I can recognize individual elephants or you tell me who is who, and partly because of the tremendous amount of education you provide about elephants! Keep up such great work!
I also support Sheldrick’s Wildlife Trust. They are doing amazingly work in Kenya along with another less well know elephant orphanage in Northern Kenya called r.e.s.c.u.e. I think. They have made rescuing baby elephants a community project and train the women in the community to do the careers jobs. They operate similar to Sheldrick’s raising the babies until they are able to return to the wild at their own pace. So many people doing such good work. Here in the US I will never be able to do this kind of work but I can donate to help them all do the best job they can.
Il manque des mots pour exprimer toute cette grandeur, et ça vaut pour l'ensemble des créations sur terre. Que de beauté.
They are so majestic.🐘
Always so startling when these abrupt "sightings" occur. Glad everything was resolved quickly.
💛🇺🇦💙
To me this shows an elephant's high intelligence in avoiding rather than fighting the wild elephant herd.
It's fascinating to me that your herd of orphans and misfits are integrated so well, yet they don't get on with wild (presumably closely familial related?) herds. This must be a testament to how successful you are in introducing new members to the Jabulani herd.
The Herd elephants aren't related to the wild elephants if that's what you mean. The Herd elephants come from various different places, including different cpuntries, qand ended together.
And it is amazing, and a testament to what sensitive and intelligent beings they are that they have all bonded so well and have welcomed so many orphans into their family ❤️❤️❤️
Watching little Khanyisa’s tail move as she walks is too cute!
All senses up! and ‘up is the wall’ of amazing ellies protecting the little ones. 💖🐘
How they have bonded to become a herd and welcome new elephants into it is truly remarkable. I cant get enough of it!
Elephants are amazing
Love them ❤️
just so beautiful please send more 😍😎🤗🙂
Certainly no running UNDER the adults got protection any longer! She has grown so much! Thanks for all you do!
Love them amazing 👏
There was probably a ton of rumbling going on during that period of "silence" - but at frequencies our limited human ears cannot detect.
Their bonding and love is incredible
SUCH BIG MAGNIFICENT ANIMALS.
I love the way you include information in your videos to tell us what's going on and you include important information about the elephants that we wouldn't normally know..like the fact that they only have sweat glands above their toenails and they flap their ears to cool down the hot blood that is flowing to the rest of their body in order to stay cooler. I think it's awesome and I wish you would include even more fun facts in your videos! Bless you all for the truly amazing work you do for all of these elephants. You are all amazing people!
🚶🏿♂️🐘🐘🚶🏼♀️🌳🌞💚
💞✨Thank you for another fabulous video. 🌿It is so interesting to view their defence impulses.
There’s no mistaking their spacial distribution from the herd, in readiness for protecting their own. 🌾
Sweet baby Khanyisa.💕🥰💕
2:48 Always amazing how easily a huge elephant can “disappear” amongst the bush - and it’s not really dense bush, either!
Fish ambles stoically onward. So proud of his bravery in life.
I send my love to my African elephant friends,I hope they enjoyed they're walk,in the beautiful African safari.❤️❤️❤️❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🌏
Their bottoms are so cute..
I have learned so much from this site. Snow Leopards have always been my favorite but I must admit these elli s are beginning to overtake them.❤
Well it could be that the power lines set them off as well. They did look to the left.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFAL THING TO WATCH.
What a beautiful morning. Thanks for the video. Their reactions were so quick! Khanyisa looks great. She's so funny when she decides to move on up. Take care.
You are so kind❤️
Just beautiful. Love what you all do!
Even with his weaker leg, Fishan still performs guard duty. I must say his size is a formidable sight.
My heart feels full every time I see him. There is just something quite special about him and his story.
Kindly feature each elephant and their story how they arrived at the herd orphange . Thank u for sharing this wonderful family of elephants. We can learn their behaviour and how they live .
Bless you.
Bless you!😊❤
That is exactly how I respond when my mother-in-law drop-ins.
Love Zindoga and Jabulani stepping up as protectors and I marvel at how tall Khanyisa is now.
Yes quite beautiful 😊
This is so beautiful to watch - Now imagine great herds of Imperial Mammoths who were double the size of today's Elephants!
Le petit bout de chou est bien protégé 🐘❣
I love Khanyisa being like: you guys are too slow, I’m coming through
Such a beautiful 😍 sight to see. This herd of majestic gentle giants marching through the bush. What a privilege it is to walk amongst them on their daily walkabout for food. You’re part of their family. 🐘🙏🏽⭕️❌🐾😇
