Baby Elephant Khanyisa Tackles Timisa as Jealousy Strikes!

  • Meisiekind is struck by the green eyed monster as jealousy raises its ugly head and causes Khanyisa to fight with Timisa, usually her good friend and playmate. Khanyisa has been showing more and more jealousy towards Timisa in the presence of Adine especially, worried that she is no longer the apple of Adine’s eye perhaps. She wants to hold onto her spot as the baby and therefore most cared for elephant in the herd.
We have seen this jealousy with Pisa especially in the early days, towards both Timisa and Khanyisa. Pisa struggled to accept that she was no longer the baby of the herd and would fight with Timisa and Khanyisa as the two moved in and took more attention away from her. This is a natural part of growing up for both elephants and humans and quite fascinating to observe in the herd.
Khanyisa is protective over her food too and refuses to share with Timisa on this morning. Timisa keeps trying to get her trunk on a snack as Khanyisa eats her breakfast but Khanyisa is not having it! She seems to forget her smaller size and boisterously goes after Timisa to show her who’s boss!
Bulls Jabulani and Zindoga both move in to break it up and inspect the fight between the youngest elephants in the herd. When it’s time to head into the bush, Khanyisa is still at it, trying to head butt her poor friend…

Two sweet DETERMINED ellies! Khanyisa loves Adine so very much!--She is determined and doesn't let her "smallness" get in the way at all! --And timisa seems to not give in much at all. Very determined ellies! When Zindoga shows up Khaynisa is like, "I'm just getting a bite of grass here! I'm not being bad!" I love how the elder elephants come to make sure everything is okay! Love them all so much! Thanks for sharing and not being jealous with your time with them!

Yes poor Timisa! K is way too spoiled and this fight shouldn't have been let go so long! Adine spoils k so much it's sad. Yes k had a bad start but so did the others! Adine should have taken this to heart for timi! This is total bull! I understand that k needs extra but timi wants treats and attention from adine too but gets like a quick hi then is ignored. It's sad that adine won't give any of the other elephant's any attention like she does k. Very upsetting to see timi get one tiny little treat I guess so k can have more while out in the reserve

@@keyappaloosa7989 this may be a late comment, but we share the same sentiments. It's difficult to play favorites among these ellies, but I love Timi's personality more than Khanyisa in this video and in others where she bullied her older sister. I am glad though Khanyisa is showing more maturity now being Baby Phabeni's older sister. This may have just been a part of growing up.🙏🐘❤

🐘❣I thought the baby pandas holding & drinking their bottles was the cutest thing ever, but Khanyisa may just be more adorable! Then she rests the sweet potato on her trunk while wagging her tail & crossing her legs- help I am having an adorableness overload! So sweet❣🐘...whoa, Khanyisa is being a cheeky toddler today. Sweet little Timisa just wanted a snack. Khanyisa has shown aggression towards Timisa a few times. I remember when timisa was eating the bark from a tree and Khanyisa came and tried to take it right out of her mouth. That went on for awhile and Timisa remained calm and retrained. Khanyisa is a little fighter and maybe a bit spoiled, but she's learning and growing. Love all these elephants and watching the behaviors of these gentle giants is such a learning curve for all of us.

A regular viewer of HERD, I now have a interest in elephants. I very much like the carers and appreciate the workings of the elephants mind and body. I love seeing the carers with the elephants, even Khanyisa can shade her carer now. Reading about elephants does not compare with the videos towards bringing understanding, admiration, and wanting to hear more about the society of elephants plus I loved the dung beetle lesson. I have posted some excepts that help me look at the herd with an even more admiring mind, these are a few characteristics, among many--elephants being complex:
Elephants purr just like cats! Not only do they communicate through trumpet sounds, snorts, roars, cries and purring, elephants pick up sounds of rumbles with their feet and they can hear communications over long distances though the vibrations that come up through their feet and into their ears.
Elephants have deep family bonds. The herd is led by the matriarch (the female head of a family.) Calves are raised by the entire herd. When males are about 12 years old, they leave the herd to live on their own while the females stay with family herd. Females will often stay with their mothers their whole lives so elephants often become great-grandmothers.
Elephants are highly sensitive and caring animals, much like humans. If a baby elephant cries, the herd will touch and caress the baby with their trunks to soothe it. They are highly intelligent animals with complex emotions, feelings, compassion and self-awareness (elephants are one of very few species to recognize themselves in a mirror!).
Like humans, elephants mourn the death of their love ones. They gently touch and caress the skull of deceased loved ones with their trunks, and they will pause for several minutes of silence in the place where their loved one dies, even several years after their death. An elephant never forgets.
Playing in the water isn't just fun for elephants, it's good for them inside and out! When they're able to float, the buoyancy provides their leg joints a much needed break. Mud acts as a sunscreen, bug repellent and moisturizer, which is helpful because elephants have extremely sensitive skin.
Elephants aren't actually scared of mice, they're scared of bees! African farmers raise bees to keep the elephants away from their crops, the all-natural elephant repellent.

If I recall correctly, Khanyisa, being ensnared in a trap, nearly starved her to death. I'm sensing that she treats every meal as if it could be her last. Losing her mother, being caught in a snare, and feeling the pain of hunger to the brink of starvation, is not something she wants to ever experience again. Hopefully, she will eventually grow out of it, but the traumatic experience has left its mark that hasn't moved to the back end of her memory bank. She's still healing.

I always felt sorry for Timisa & her sweet, humble attitude. This time we could notice both girls temporal glands secreting, not a good sign in this situation. Timisa was backing up but K kept trying to spar with her. 😔

One can never tire of these delightful and precious
Elephants. They are SO INCREDIBLE and their personalities are absolutely extraordinary! It amazes me and delights me at the same time. I don't wish to condone little Miss K's behavior but, I am speechless that they have these depths of emotions. It touches me and makes me that much angrier of people whom mean them harm. They are exhibiting human emotions and how horrifying to know they suffer evil treatment by poachers, etc. It is heartbreaking for me to know not only Elephants but, so many helpless animals suffer at the hands of mankind. Animals are a gift from God Our Creator.
I thank you Adine and all the wonderful and compassionate Carers that not only LOVE the Elephants but, the ELEPHANTS LOVE the Carers.
The jealousy Khanyisa shows is no different than children fighting for attention in a human family. To know the Adult Elephants are keen in watching the youngsters and will come and break up any hostilities is again breathtaking. I so wish I had Bigger Aspirations when I was a young woman and the maturity and education to be a part of something like this. Being an American in the 60's women were taught strongly to follow in their Mothers footsteps and get married and have children. So sad that was our main direction and even sadder that I didn't have the unction to pursue other more worldly goals!
My deepest appreciation to those that dedicate their lives to this ambition and lifestyle. I Truly believe working with animals on this level humbles you and makes you a better human being. Love to All!! To Adine and the Organization, the Carers and The Herd! God Bless you all.❤🙏❤🙏❤

That was so cool. Princess is jealous, became a mean Ellie. Naughty but cool😂. Good job Timi for understanding but still wanted some snacks and attention. Khanyisa seems not to be a sharer. I hope as she grows up she will gr,ow out of that stage. Family shouldn’t be jealous. Share the love if not your snacks Miss Princess Khanyisa. Timi loves you and Adine. Share Khanyisa there’s enough love for you both

Timi is also. It's the excitement of the two that's causing it. The pretty pink Princess is spoiled and used to getting her way. She will cut up until her herd teaches her better. She is jealous of Timi being near Adine and she doesn't want to share. Her mother Lundi will set her straight and Tokwe will too.

After having viewed the newest "Mambo's reunion with his HERD" for a gazillion times, I am watching this video about the 2 "Lief vir Kinders, K & T." For the record, I have loved sweet and beautiful Timisa.💞since first getting to know her. Everything about her bespeaks love, tolerance, patience, gentleness, kindness, etc. I'm sure I saw her being given a marula by Adine, That was a good move! I believe that Khanyisa is very fond of Timi and vice-versa. This was a typical sibling rivalry coupled with jealousy--more about Adine than the food, but through it all you can see the playful love and sparring. Khanyisa is still too young to fathom the error of her ways, but her HERD will direct her as they see fit. You can't spank an elephant--the reprimands must come verbally and by example from human carers. Adine and Carers know just how to speak to each of them. Behavorial psychologists say that if you wait until the scuffle blows over, then let the 2 of them see each other receiving the same snack to emphasize sharing. Elephants never ever forget--but as we saw with Lundi, no matter what Mambo did, they all welcomed him back to the fold. Thank you Adine, Jabulani and Zindoga! ❤❤❤

I didn’t read it purely as jealousy or aggression- negative traits...I saw Khanyisa becoming confident enough to protect her food-a survival instinct. I wonder how she learned that?🥰
