Wake Up at the Homestead with Baby Elephant, Khanyisa & the Herd! 🐘

  • The first of many new mornings! We catch up with Khanyisa after her first night at the homestead, as she starts the day with Limpopo and Kumbura and bonds with the females in her section of the homestead, as well as sweet Fishan. We are discovering what new routine suits Khanyisa best but it appears that she is doing well receiving her supplementary food and morning milk bottles out in the field, outside the homestead, before she and the herd head out into the bush together. Khanyisa’s little body is blending so well into this new scene and she certainly appears to be very confident, handling the new chapter with great courage and positivity, as she has always approached everything!

I've come to admire Fishan so much! He has stepped into the role of helping the allomothers protect Khaniysa which I find so interesting given he is a bull. In spite of everything he has been through, he has not allowed his trauma to change his disposition. He has a huge heart and is always such a gentlemen and so trustworthy! He is one of my favorite elephants now.

The things I love most about this video,
    1) Khanyisa starting to hand her bottles back instead of dropping them
    2) the way Adine talks to Tokwe, mother to mother, matriarch to matriarch.
    3) how Stavros knows exactly what Khanyisa was doing all night, (because even though he'll say he got some sleep, we all know he probably stayed up all night to make sure his darling little friend was alright) 🤗😊❤️

She's an orphan with no access to the milk she should be drinking -- though HERD does its best to match the nutrition that helps sustain her. A few extra pieces of potatoes to give her a boost is not unfair. If equality is important to you, please do donate to HERD so that every elephant can get extra treats in the evening.

Anyone else get the feeling this a bit of a new adaption to the morning routine, as if the Elephants currently most in charge of raising Khanyisa, are there to let you know they know she needs her breakfast milk before they head out for the day, as she has always been given that meal before being allowed to catch up with the herd. Definately feels like they are at the milk drive up with an order for 4 bottles, but baby is staying in the car with them.
Felt like Fishan arrived and joined the females with Khanyisa and placed himself between them and the carers and stared very intently as if he wanted to make sure you knew how well Khanyisa had been taken care of all night and you did not have to be concerned and there was no reason to consider this anything but a success and to know she was staying with them now and not going back to the nursery. It's going to be interesting how they will deal with something that takes her back to the nursery even for a short time such as a weight check or a vet check.

    • @hb4196
      @hb4196 Год назад +2

If they take her back to the nursery at all- she is reaching the maximum weight for the scale; Adine mentioned it not too long ago. She will be too big to fit in the stall. Vet can check in her in the homestead, just as he would any of the other eles. I think Khanyisa is finished with the nursery. Just my thoughts.

    • @cherylpeevy5010

Yes, I loved the group standing at the fence waiting. They knew Khanyisa needed her milk and your "drive thru" comparison is perfect! I also noticed that the carers and Adine brought her milk and bucket of food farther out into the bush away from the nursery and the homestead perhaps to avoid a confusion or another commotion like we saw in the earlier video. Oh and seeing Lammie and Nungu was a nice touch!

She is a Khanyisa Braveheart adapting as best she can. I'm sure there was a little shock her first night, not understanding why she wasn't going back to the nursery. But all her old friends, elephant and human, are still around. I feel sure she will be fine, especially with all the warmhearted care she receives from everyone.
Thank you so much for the daily updates. I know we all eagerly await every bit of news as she enters her next chapter. Yay, Baby K!❤🐘

Adine I commented you, and the Cares, integrating Khanyisa into the Jabulani Elephant herd, while dealing first with Khanyisa severe injuries. And the Jabulani Elephant Herd has welcomed Khanyisa into their family, and have been reach by her how to be n Elephant. And yesterday I saw the Elephants take her into their Herd completely and like you indicated Adine, The Jabulani Herd will continue to raise Khanyisa. Well 👍 done.

All is up and rolling for little miss Sunshine in the Homestead but she is still granted with "special Baby K breakfast" It is so amazing that all the Ellies from Tokwe and Fishan's group are in alert as soon as somebody approaches the Homestead and all the ellies from the group are mobilzed to surround our Pink Baby so sweet ! 💖

I love them all. Looks as though K has settled in well and great that she has used the mound in the night. Great shot of those on the mound, must be so helpful for them not having to get up from a horizontal position. That is why my heart bleeds when I see elephants in India and the like where they are forced to sleep horizontal on concrete. Thank you for being there for all of these precious elephants.

Elephant #2: She was a little worried not having you guys out there with her, but after some trunk rubs and kisses she settled right in.
Elephant 1: We appreciate all that you have done for her and us as well as what you have done for our troop, it makes us happy and makes us feel wanted instead of hunted.

One gets a bit sleepy oneself while watching the morning atmosphere…how tenderly they treat each other 🥰 She will always remember her time in the nursery and her human allomother and fathers - 'elephants nerver forget' as the saying goes. And how she is digging for those pellets 😉

It is interesting how she has begun on her own to hand her bottles back, a very grown up attitude. Another thing I've noticed is that despite how it might appear at times the herd are not pets or detained by force. The day they decide to move out there isn't much can be done to stop them. They are smart enough to know they don't want to join the wild herds and have accepted being part of a kind of blended family with Adine and the carers and the rarely seen Rangers who patrol the area and the various animals such as the Rhinos and deer and water buffalo and the occasional predators that sniff around. This is a much larger place than most of us realize. Those who have been lucky to visit must be amazed at all that goes on around the sanctuary as well as local people living nearby and the very posh hotel. If I ever win that lottery I'll be visiting one day lol

A very calming start to a new day. Khanyisa is doing exactly what any new baby Homestead dweller would do: sniffing out her new digs and getting a lay of the land. Gazing at the others sleeping on the mound, perhaps made her ponder gee, I better learn to do this cause I gotta get some zzzzz's in. Limpopo and Pisa I believe were commissioned by their mom to be deputy Tokwes to keep an eye on K. Limpopo is a very proud elephant and is taking this new role seriously. I was thinking about Lundi and Bubi, whom I feel are keeping somewhat of a distance in deference to Tokwe. They have a long history with Khanyisa and she loves them. Adine/ Carers were right on about the initial group Khanyisa would be with. Kumbura, Pisa, Limpopo & Timisa are ideal mates for Meisiekind. I bet in no time she finds her way in the ♥♥♥of all the bulls, but ain't no one gonna come between Setombe and Klaserie hahaha😄 Can't wait to hear how Khanyisa slept on night # 2.
