Hi All. I am the owner of this Mk3. Just wanted to give an update. Unfortunately my 1JZ gave out on me.. Thanks to my guys at Victory Motorsports, It was replaced with a fully built 1.5JZ. She now pushes 575 whp and 469 tq on pump and 800 whp with 796 tq on e85. Really enjoying the extra power. Maybe we can do an update video ...
Call me crazy, but id rather have a mk3 than a mk4. Edit-Three reasons why. Cheaper, I prefer the 80's, um, a e s t h e t i c look and I'd feel less guilty if it got a little beat up.
Even though Japanese cars aren't my scene, I can really appreciate the level of respect with which this car was put together. I particularly like the original interior and straight body!
I've had a MK3 Supra since 2001. The community is still VERY strong for these cars (Supraforums,Supramania, etc.) 520HP is actually fairly easy to obtain.
ya. that's kinda weird, in my 7M powered MK3 I literally have to do the boost lean whenever i lean into it. 20psi, td06 20G turbo :) nothing fancy but holy crap that car hauls.
You can get 500 on a 7m pretty easily if you know what you are doing. I have 400 running through a w58 right now no issues. I know it won't handle much more so am planning a cd009 conversion since r154 have gone crazy. The car I have with a 154 is over 500 now but not pushing it as it's always had a second gear shift issue even before the build. May pull it and do a rebuild but the parts aren't much better than stock do may convert it to cd009 as well. Toyota has s problem building tough trannies for sr ome reason.
@@manilove2pwn I agree. I’m running 23psi on my mk3 1j with the same turbo, big front mount intercooler, 850cc injectors, 255walbro pump and other little things but im only making about 380whp. Gonna go with water meth next month and hope I can squeeze out around 420whp. 23psi is my cap because of my intake manifold or cam. Not sure which but those are the next things to come
Criminally underrated cars - even with the 7M-GTE. I know they aren't too reliable with the 7M, but dammit... they're just friggin' cool. Cooler than the MK4, IMO, simply because F&F fanboys don't know what to make of the MK3.
Actually the 2 problems with 7m are easily repaired. The headgasket issue was handled by Toyota by increasing the head Torque and redesigning the head gasket. Adding studs you can increase the torque even more. The low oil pressure isn't a problem until you start increasing performance so replacing the pump and increasing the bypass spring will fix that. As well replacing the hard line from the pump with a steel braided line increases volume. The banjo fitting Japanese cars love so much is very restrictive so upgrading it is a must when the oil pan is removed. I have 3 of these Supra and only 1 had bottom end issue when I got it but that could have been a lack of oil as well since no hole in the block but not much oil in it either. Like any factory engine you can upgrade and make it much better. I'm running forged internals with a ported and polished head intake and exhaust. I'm playing with a modified ct26 right now for a friend who needed data. He increased the cold side and it's a beast for a quarter the cost of a quality new Turbo. It will make 30 psi easily on his but I'm still on a fresh rebuild so I run 10 sometimes a bit more but usually 10. After I do my second oil change after the rebuild and all looks good I'm going to turn it up. Do far I'm running the Japsnese injectors but have a set of larger for if needed. Still on stock maf but have a couple options sitting. Al sr o have a cop conversion for the future but I wanted to start stock and really see what each upgrade does positive and negative. As I said I have 3 so I'm using this build as as street build for info of a full on wild build in the future on one of the others. Have s targa and two hard tops. If I use the targa I need a full cage (which is planned on the current anyway)
You get more respect building these. They dont come blistering fast from the factory n with bolt ons. Although if you overcome some small factory flaws with the 7m you have a good platform to build a very effective and enjoyable car. I have owned the mk3 and mk4 as well as a couple sc's and i still gravitate to the mk3 ,they just have soul and something about pulling iff the targa the look n layout of the car and cruising the strip at the beach just brings back memories that make me happy in places it shouldn't 🤪👍,but just my .02. The mk3 was my first turbo car and the car i drove to high school an it did its job quite well.

Does anybody know what may be wrong when my 1jz has no signal to injectors 1,2 and 3? The engine has been out.. and wire loom refitted..

8:41 isnt that turbo flutter? That's not good
what's the biggest component that makes this car so "smooth" is it the power band? when the turbo kicks in? or because of the linear inline 6?
i LOVE the seats!! i want them in mine!
