  • @oldskool235
    @oldskool235 Месяц назад +9

    I had a 1994 escort GT 5 spd with N2o on it.
    I used a 1991 escort GT transmission due to it's gearing, milled the head, took the cams from a GT automatic wagon, kicked the intake cam forward a tooth, re-clocked the distributor, added a 10k rpm Mallory ignition system, 8mm msd wires with bosch platinum plugs, took out the variable intake butterflies, modified a 1989 escort GT exhaust manifold to fit a custom steel flange to fit the 94 head and took the chip and spring from the 1.8 vane/vaf meter and put it inside of a 2.2l probe turbo vane/vaf housing that had about 40% more cross sectional area to it. I then threw on a custom direct port N2O system. I used an Aeromotive A1000 for fuel delivery with a Mallory adjustable fuel regulator.
    215/45 17’s put the power to the ground.
    It ran 12.20's in the quarter.
    This was back in 2002 when there were no tuning parts for these engines, and no stand alone systems for tuning like today.

    Detroit born and raised…we don’t have emissions or inspections on vehicles. You wouldn’t believe the crazy stuff on the roads here (first gen US ford focus hatchbacks with mustang V8’s converted to RWD, look stock as day besides the wheels, etc). Still to this day one of the fastest cars I’ve ever seen was a grandma pearl green ford escort just like the one in this video. Only car I ever saw it lose to in a street race was a big block drag chevy Camaro, even then it only lost by half a hood. Come
    To find out what was in it…a fully converted escort cosworth swap with major boost, AWD drivetrain, etc. It looked stock as day but sounded nefarious.

    Love it. My daily back in the mid nineties was a white ‘88 Escort GT I acquired for $500. Super fun car to drive. Parts were cheap and it kept my fox body mustang out of the weather while I built the crap out of it. I always wanted to turbo the Escort but a las I moved onto a second gen Probe GT and nearly ended up turboing it - bought the kit but talked some sense into myself. Sold it and got into AWD euros. Many years later still have fox bodies and some pretty cool Audis… and in true form none of them are even remotely stock. The car bug bites hard.

    I've always had a love affair with these. My big brother had the gt model for his first car. I learned how to REALLY drive in that car. We grew up in Inglewood, CA aka South Central L.A. Dads Dutch, Mommas Sicilian. So, two white brothers growing up in South Central in the late 90s but mostly early 2000s wasn't easy. But we had that car. It was black, on lowering springs, had some really cool mesh style wheels we spent hours polishing by hand with brasso, had a quick release before they were a thing, and we also put one of the first semi affordable in dash dvd player/stereo head units AND a PS2 with `2 controllers. We kept one game in they're I don't think we ever took it out....Need for speed underground baby. My brother is only 20 months older than me so, we were in school together all growing up. We were the SHIT in that car. I remember countless times making out with a girl in the back while big bro, who's name is David btw, in the front doing the same thing, parking at in n out and playing underground for HOURS then having to call dad for a jump because the battery was flat. So many good memories man. Anyway, why not wrong wheel drive delete this thing and go rear wheel drive? The wheelbase is no shorter than a miata, I know for a fact the engine bay is long enough, cut a tunnel from a junk Miata, rear subframe, diff, trans etc and bobs your uncle. Yeah a bit of measuring and welding aside for sure. I think it would be sick AF.

    1.8L Mazda Dohc BP motor similar if not the same engine found in the Mazda 323 Gtx/Gtr awd turbo, except with slightly different compression and same engine in the 1st Gen Protege familia family; they came with a forged crank shaft. So it can handle a lot of HP.

    In new zealand that escort is known as a Ford laser tx3, and the gearboxes break very easily, the ultimate conversion is the 4g63 from the Mitsubishi Evolution/eclipse which has been done here in nz

    We had one in the family. Bought new in '94, taken care of, had it until around 2019. Rear shock towers rusting did it in. Great little car.
    Edit: I wouldn't call this one a sleeper!

    Tell ya boi with the escort he should probably do a nut and bolt check on the passenger seat and rails, every time you floored the gas that seat was a rockin'!

      @@baltazard133T It's been some months since this was filmed, I've gone through the car, I think I was missing a bolt on the front left side. No one had ever rode in the car at this point and I think it was one of those, oh I don't have a bolt , I'll get one later kinda of deals , and I just forgot.

    Fun fact about the Ford Escort: me and a group of friends have an acting theory that the car driven by Father John Ward in the game Faith: The Unholy Trinity is an incredibly pixelated rendition of a 1986 Ford Escort. Originally, I thought it was an '86 mustang, because of how similarly the little details lined up. Tiny spoiler, triangular rear window, the B-Pillar placement, and the little tiny bump out for the front bumper. But that didn't make any sense because why would a former priest be driving a performance car in 1987? That's when we realized that the Escort from the same year has almost all the same details and makes a lot more sense for him to be driving. Just something I think of whenever I see an Escort.
