You missed the point of Reiner's description of the "devils". The way he described a group of undisciplined cadets, who stole food and acted like fools, while simultaneously calling them "devils", was a thinly veiled satire on Marleyan propaganda. He wanted Gabi to have a moment of doubt thinking "these just sound like regular people". At this point, Reiner doesn't believe in the Marleyan cause anymore. He's only pretending to fit in for the sake of Falco and Gabi, hoping his presence would help them avoid repeating his mistakes.
I don't think he did that continuously, more so, that was the "worst" thing he could come up with but it was just... Human, no devils on the island
@@adriannabaranowska7039 He was just telling the truth as he saw it, yes, but he probably wouldn't have said anything to begin with if Gabi wasn't there. At this point, he wasn't do it consciously, but you can tell that's what he's subconsciously doing. The show develops more on that in later episodes.
18:20 Falco was lucky he said that to Reiner and not to someone else. Reiner was just trying to get Falco to realise he needs to be more careful about what he says to whom… these poor kids, man.
I think what makes Reiner's monologue powerful is not that he lied. It's that every word he said was true. Including "My days there were pure hell." It was pure hell because there were "all sorts of different people there" and not just the evil devils he expected. Just normal people.
I agree with you here my friend Rinier and he care for them they are his friends
32:23 Thanks to that one line of Zeke’s (“not in this room”), Reiner knew the room was bugged. Galliard didn’t realise that and was about to complain about the leaders, which could land them in hot water.
Reiner stepped in and basically saved his butt by spewing propaganda (like he did with Falco).
I agree with you here my boy Rinier and zeke are smart
I think the reason Reiner's family was shocked by what he said is because the actions he described were very normal and not at all devilish.. and yes Sasha did offer the smaller piece to the commander 😁
I agree with you here my friend ❤
For that scene at 28:15, I remember reading a comment somewhere that said the stunned look on Reiner's family's faces was due to the fact that the things Reiner was describing were pretty ordinary no matter how he packaged it. It is understandable though why he labelled them "evil" -- he is in a place where everyone staunchly believes that Paradis Eldians are savages and to say otherwise is quite risky and is just the overall easy thing to do since nobody else who is now in Marley has gotten to know them up close but him. But, funnily enough, the worst, most evil picture he could conjure up about the Paradis Eldians is of someone having little self-control with food, being selfish, caring too much about others' opinions, and forgetting why they went to the toilet. This also reveals what he truly thinks and feels about the Paradis Eldians if that's the worst he could think of. Reiner's family thought this was odd too; that's why Gabi, out of confusion, asked "They're bad people, right?", and then towards the end of the episode says to Reiner that Reiner's mom thinks he's lying about the Paradis Eldians not being so evil after all.
There is a little detail when Gabi is excitedly telling her war story, there is a moment where she gets a bit quieter as she realizes she could have died. It's easy to miss, but I love that they put that in there.
I think she was gonna say Falco ran and tried to save me but she skipped that part. at least that's what I've always thought to myself
@@kiarashtaheri7478l agree with you here l fell şad for gabi and her family have nice day my friend
As others have pointed out, Reiner's monologue was to show that these terrible "devils" weren't that bad, and were just doing normal silly things that any other person would do, which would dispel the idea of them actually being that horrendous in everyone's mind. To describe Sasha eating a potato and not sharing half the potato and then to follow up and say "it was pure hell" or to call them devils for that would tick anyone off who wants to conclude that they are evil no matter what.
Actually what rheiner said at the dinner table was all correct, but think about it, all the terrible things he said the eldians did, someone was a jerk, someone was narcissist, someone liked potatoes, of all the things he could have said, he said the horrible eldians had human traits, and humanized them with those, which is why his mother got upset and didnt want to hear more. He could have said "they disregard human lives and throw people at us to die" (erwins charge), or "they torture marleyans" (what armin told him about marley), but he didnt, he chose to say those minor things everyone has
Yeah, she got mad cause Reiner almost seemed sarcastic there. That remark about Sasha "and it wasn't even close to half!" is like something you'd end a joke with, and when he describes Eren, that's basically what they praised Gabi for earlier.
Imagine talking about the "painter people" like that. "This kid didn't wanna go to the youth group just cause, and it took all of us going to his house to convince him, what a selfish, lazy bum!" You'd think someone was messing with you.
Have you noticed that Colt praises Gabi in order to protect his little brother (Falco) from inheriting the armored titan so that falco can live a long life?
It's a great detail
Is amzing l agree with you here my friend ❤
24:58 It’s important to remember that to everyone on the mainland, Paradis is where the most tyrannical empire in history fled to before walling itself off from the rest of the world for a century.
But even more importantly, they don’t know that the people of Paradis had their memories wiped, let alone that the king made a vow renouncing war, so as far as anyone is concerned, their violent culture hasn’t changed.
Of course, that’s a well-guarded secret that, if you recall, only people like the royal family on the mainland know about.
"If Eren’s not going to do that then I’m going to eat a broom"
LMAO MALTI 🤣🤣🤣
reiner's story at the table was meant to demonstrate how his two personalities are converging. he tried to tell a story supporting the narrative that island eldians are devils but chose mundane examples that showcased their humanity instead.
Reiner opened the window to the truth of the people on Paradis, but Karina literally shut it and kept their mind closed. She started spilling propaganda, as in to make sure that anyone listening form the outside would not pick up what's going on with Reiner.
This episode reminds us that Levi and Mikasa can give nightmares to people who can turn into giant monsters :)
Not a single thing Reiner tells was devilish lmao. it felt like he was talking about a summer camp stories 💀
20:23 well she isnt the one sending them to the frontlines as she also is just a pawn. Its Magath and the Marleyan government
Yea, you read Reiner wrong there at first, you actually do that a lot, like commenting before the scene or the speaker ends their reasoning, but I guess the viewers enjoy that, cuz then you react more often.
😂Agree, a lot of times he instantly jump to an idea without hear/read the whole thing.
Just started watching this channel
I really enjoy the sincerity of your reactions
Haven't seen many reactors who go line-by-line the way you do
But I do appreciate the amount of time and detail you're putting in
I do like the detail that Pieck has to get use to walking on 2 legs after spending a long period of time on all 4 as the Cart over extended periods of time.
They really laying it thick with the Reiner character bonding arc. Mate def had it tough.
Man, I can’t wait for the re-watch, it’s going to be EPIC.
8:53 In season 3 when Historia received Ymir's letter and saw some memories by touching it you can see a frame of Ymir. It's nice to re-watch it.
next episodes can't come sooon enough!! so EXCITED!!
Woah Your interpretation of Reiner is so spot on even though you did not see his backstory in this episode.
You should know that Marley doesn't know that Zeke has royal blood Kruger was stopping Grisha from talking about it.
19:12 naming an open prison "liberty" is one of the most f*ed up ironies in this show
You’re right about Marcelle being the leader
I think during one of the flashbacks Annie says something like “without Marcelle to lead us this mission is doomed”
What’s funny is she actually hasn’t said that in a flashback yet. Prior to this episode, there was nothing to infer that Marcel was the leader other than how disorganized their trio seemed to be and how devastating his death was portrayed as. Which makes his prediction quite impressive.
@@purpleemerald5299 oh really? I could have sworn that already happened
@@Wildcard-Jack-47 In fairness, that flashback happens in the episode right after this one, so I can see why.
I can’t wait! Though I kinda hope it would premiere at 22:00, midnight is really late :’)
Yeah, I might change it soon! =)
@@storieswithstyle that would be very nice. I would appreciate it a lot.
"I'll eat a broom!" - gotta love germans ♥
I’m ready to cry about Reiner with you, haha… ha…
I'm not hating but, try to pause and talk just a few seconds later, a lot of times you are talking 'nonsense' because you didn't hear the rest of what the character was saying and end up doing a 180°, still I don't hate it, it just feels a bit 'dumb' in the moment!? Sorry, really not trying to be mean. Really enjoyed the video!
What Reiner said to Falco means he doesn’t want Gabi to inherit the titan and get killed young due to the Titan-13-years span. He’s not blinded by Marleyan honor thing. He might be a little selfish to ask Falco to takeover the responsibility protecting his cousin Galbi, but definitely not as brain-washed as the other warriors.
Really love your reactions❤
Still waiting for the next episode😢😢
You should wait for a scene to end or at the very least wait for a character to finish speaking before you pause and analyze. I feel like you got Reiners character completely wrong and missed a lot of subtle details that betray his inner struggles and make the writing in this episode so genius. I really love your commentary, which is why I watch, I just think you’re missing the forest for the trees by not seeing a whole scene or hearing a whole line.
I look forward to your next reactions. I really think it will be the best reaction, knowing what is to come.
i need next
today! =)
Sasha did give the instructor less than half the potato, so Reiner did not lie, he just interpreted a normal selfish act as being evil. He could also have said "those people used to eat and sh*t, how devilish of them!"..
The way I see it, Eldians in Marley don't believe the propaganda (except for kids), they just have to go along with it cuz otherwise they'll be sent to their "paradise".. And they never know when they are being spied on so they have to keep the act at all times even among themselves.. If that makes sense. Some of them do hate the island Eldians since they left them behind, which is completely justifiable imo.
Reiner best developed character this season, change my mind.
Reiner is insanely conflicted at this point. You can see from most of Reiner/Gabi's family, they have drunk the coolaid. They fully believe the propoganda, genuinely so. You see that very much with Gabi. Reiner used to be Gabi. He was fully on board. But after his time in Paradis, he is fucking scarred. He doesn't know what to believe anymore. His no longer snapping between characters as he was back on the island, but his conflicted.
I think that last scene with Reiner is a mixture of not wanting to tell his family the truth, but is also him trying to convince himself.
I think the idiot is Connie. The Jerk is Jean. The Uptight Oaf is Marco. The Single Minded Fool is Eren as you identified.
Funnily enough, the battle in season 3 in the manga, the cart Titan was supposed to be a middle aged man and even had a different face on his Titan. Be very thankful we have pieck because that was not a good look
Yes, Marcel was the leader of the group and Reiner tried to be in his place, it was his own decision while trying to convince Annie and Berthold, he was like "then I'm gonna be Marcel if he is not here anymore" and stuff like that. If you recap the scene you will remember :)
❤
The characterization of the warriors and candidates is much more subtle than you seem to think, to survive in this enviroment Eldians have to act submissive and watch what they say constantly.
Kind of tiring that you jump to conclusions so much, i do wish you would wait until a scene is done to talk about it.
lol you read reiner so wrong
It is a bit weird how some people don't get more uncomfortable the fact that these are 12 year olds in war because its animation. The behaviors and mentality presented are not far from reality and to me is more of a warning of the war machines of the past and currebt.
“Pieck looks weird” you just lost every black viewer 😂😂
"Being hated for the situation of your birth."
Me sitting here, a straight white male with blonde hair and blue eyes in a city which has recently become mostly ethnic minorities...☹
There isn't a character i hate more than Gabi in all of manga and anime.
