    Hello everyone that have some questions! In my experience I just got the trackpad for my triple boot T480. The first OS I tried was Windows and unfortunately (for my experience at least) it was not plug and play for me. Although I did get it to work after following a reddit guide (title: "T480 Trackpad Replacement Guide - Windows Driver Hell Edition" for anyone trying to find it) it worked just fine. Haven't booted with Linux or macOS yet though. Will keep updated!
    Update: Linux and macOS were simple plug and play! When I booted to either OS the trackpad worked just as normally than before swapping it. Looks like Windows was the only real hassle if it doesn't work with it.

      Thanks for keeping everyone posted. I saw that reddit thread before deciding to go with this mod. I think it points out the part number that tends to cause problems, too.

      Sharp eye! That was an upgrade. I'll probably do a video on it down the road.

    Hey I just done it everything works perfect but noticed a little fingernail gap at the very bottom, does your have that or should I realign it ?

    • @ChezDoesStuff
      @ChezDoesStuff  7 месяцев назад +1

      There shouldn't be any gap on it, if your clips are still intact. You can try removing the panel and clipping that side in first.

    Hello, I can't find the 36008C trackpad anywhere and the DZ-World aliexpress listing is no longer up. Do you know if the 36020C1 P/N trackpad works? This one is readily available.

    • @robertroberts7137
      @robertroberts7137 Год назад +1

      Alternatively, If you know where to buy a 36008C trackpad, please share.

    • @ChezDoesStuff
      @ChezDoesStuff  Год назад +1

      I did buy my T580's SM10P36008C from DZWorld before. I found another seller, Youp Store, that still offers the 36008. I suggest making sure they commit to ship the exact 36008 model in writing before making the purchase.
      As for 36020C1 - regretfully, I am not aware if it will or will not work, since the 36008C has historically been the model that different online communities recommend for the glass trackpad upgrade.

      @@ChezDoesStuff the thing that matters are the first letters. It must be SM10P, as it is for 1st gen X1 extreme. The SM10R is for 2nd gen X1 Extreme and it still does work but requires a lot of hassle messing around and modifying X1E drivers. I've had experience with both of them and getting the 8SSM10P variant is so much easier as it is plug and play.
      The correct FRU part numbers are 01LX660 01LX661 and 01LX662

      @ChezDoesStuff Unfortunately, I got a SM10R version from DZ-World. You mentioned that there is a way to make it work. Any further - more precise instructions? Thx in advance.

    The guide is very straightforward and helpful to exchange the touchpad. One big problem though: after installing the exact same model (SM10P36008) the touchpad begann to not work properly anymore after waking up from sleep on Linux. I cannot recommend this mod.

    • @ChezDoesStuff
      @ChezDoesStuff  Год назад +1

      Sorry it didn't work out for you. I use Windows, so it was a plug and play affair. Do scour the Thinkpad subreddit for info though, since this is popular among Linux users as well. The issue you encountered may have been discussed and solved in the past.

    You don't need to disable the internal battery just disconnect the battery
