    Rob, thanks for a great explanation video on wishbones. I was set to use a stainless nut, but you convinced me otherwise! Not familiar with the 2x4 but looks like it is a winner. Thanks from DE, u.s.

    nice knot, I've been using a double-figure 8 so you end up with two wish bone sections in case one breaks.

    Rob, I am a big fan of 303 Protectant for my auto tires, windshield wipers, window molding rubbers, and basically anything made from rubber that I want to last and last and last! Do you think the 303 Protectant can be used on speargun rubbers, too, to make them NOT dry-rot (as that is 303’s main feature!)?? Thanks for all your informative videos, too!

      Hi Bri Ha, sorry I don't know the product. As long as it is silicon based and no petroleum products it should be good.

    Just a quick question sorry if it is dummb, I recently bought a Rob Allen Sparid 800 Rail gun and the spear on it has a overhang of 40 cm (the spear is 130 cm), it just doesn't look right, any suggestions on what to do, thanks for any help, keep up the good work.

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  4 года назад

      Not a dumb question at all. The spear needed should be 40cm longer than the barrel, not the whole gun. So, an 800 gun should have a 120cm spear. The mechanism and muzzle will add about 15cm so only about 25cm of the spear should protrude from the muzzle.

    I decided to test out this knot, definitely a great one but it’s too wide to fit into small ID rubbers (specifically attempt failed on 16mm small ID Primeline bands) I ended up figuring out that instead of 2 loops and 4 pass throughs, the 2x4 as he called it, a 2x2 works well for small ID bands

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  11 месяцев назад

      No problem going with what works for you. We have not tested the smaller ID rubbers 👍

    In your other video you said not to use pliers. Are the knots an exception to the need for a special tool, in your opinion?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  3 года назад

      It's not a good idea to use a long nose pliers on a wishbone bead but fine in a knot as it is much smaller, less likely to slip.

    Hello Mr Rob.. I have couples of rob allen guns.. Latest one i bought tuna aluminum 90s.. I have old one but i want to renew.. I used it.. The issue after shooting the gun sinking not floating :( how to fix it?? Rob allen reel attached only nothing else still new.. Any advice??

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  4 года назад +1

      The buoyancy on the shorter aluminum guns are always a problem. All the components are the same as a bigger gun but the volume/space for air in the barrel is less. We do make carbon barrels which are much lighter but also become a problem when made as 80's and 70's. to help we are in the process of making floats to fit on the side of the barrels but these will still be a while.

    Try doubling the line up, figure 8 knot, trim the ends. A bit fatter. Headhunter use that in their pole spears but that is 12mm rubber not sure on the hole size.

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks I will test that. I now use a modified button knot that is simple to do and has no slip.

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  3 месяца назад

      Yes but I have since come up with a better knot. Basically a button knot with out the last tuck. It is hard to explain, I will do a video one day.

    Will a single wishbone be ok on a roller gun?

  • @tonyy6436
    @tonyy6436 4 года назад

    Rob, could you please repeat the test using a loop of 1.8/1.9mm wishbone dyneema tied with a simple overhand knot in the doubled line? This is a popular way to provide a loop at each end of the rubber, so that a replaceable length of wishbone line can be quickly tied in in with sheet-bends.
    Also, how about repeating the test with: a simple, single overhand knot (Florida Freedivers suggest this in their RUclips video) and another test with the double overhand knot that RA use with your beads but without the bead!
    BTW I like the "2x4" name for the knot shown. :)

      @@tonyy6436 Ok, we will do the looped attachment type next. Not sure what you are referring to re the single overhand knot?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  4 года назад +2

      @@tonyy6436 I tested the knot shown in Florida Freedivers Channel, the one they recommend on the spear line. When testing it against the knot we use, it fails between 50kg and 60kg. It does not break but it slips. This test was done with Dyneema. Dyneema is slightly waxy, might be fine on other type lines.

      @@RobAllenSpearfishing Some call the overhand knot a thumb knot. I've also heard it called a Granny knot but for us a Granny knot is different, it is the bad variant of a reef knot (/square knot). The over hand knot is the first half of a reef knot. The simplest knot possible perhaps.
