I have become a believer of this ‘tackeling’ thing. I really like the way it looks, and the way the double-ender feels in your hand. A small trick I’ve been using that you may like too: I wet the line right before attaching it to the double ender. This makes the line easier to wrap as it does not slip, and then it tightens up once it dries. I burn the ends once it has had a time to dry out.
I've been an avid user of cable ties for 15 years in my diving. Looks like it's time for a chance. Excellent concise vid. Keep up the good work.
Great videos! I’m learning a lot. Grateful for your generosity to share your skills and insights.
Very good ideas you have. I've throwed a lot of zip strapes to garbage. Thanks for those videos!
Always learning. I've lost gear, adopted your practice, thank you, Ontario, Canada
Just found this one. Used tackling extensively while commercial fishing back in the 1980’s. Thanks for expanding my thoughts on this, especially in terms of mouthpiece retention. I’ll use my braided fishing line for sure, and see how it works to keep my necklace and mouthpiece in place!
As always GREAT TIPS! I'm using a lot of them and learning a lot of others. Love your details can implement them easily! You are a wealth of diving knowkedge! Thank you.
Great idea, I now use this on a double ender as my tag on a drifting deco station to identify me. Very neat.
Always good suggestions from you. Thanks Achim.
Thanks for sharing i use this node all the time ...
Thanks this saved a dive for me while diving in Jordan
Nice video channel and nice t shirt! ;) Thank you for the tips!
This is really great! I’ve been watching a few of your videos, I wished we lived closer together so I could bug you to dive with me lol. Thank you for showing this.
Best T-shirt EVER.
Very cool and thank you.
Another great video :)
Good idea. thank you.
I use this on all second stage mouthpieces. I observed that after first dip in a little warm water the tie gets even stronger.
Thanks for the video, I used your videos to tie all my bolt snaps to my torches, camera and marked my SMB snap. What would you recommend people do to mark other kit like SMBs, masks, wetsuits etc? I know you should be able to look and tell if it's yours but you never know...
your pirate t-shirt looks like Lemmy from Motorhead 🤘🏼
“How to burn a rebreather” 😆 I hate tie straps. They’ve made so much trouble for me in my aviation career from chewing through hydraulic lines and wires to sticking the $h!t out of me when the last guy didn’t trim the tail off flush. I don’t want em in my gear. Got any more detailed info on the fishing line method?
Just wondering if a constrictor knot would be a better option on the mouth piece, could be slightly easier to tie
Thanks for your videos - very informative. Btw, could you use fishing line instead of string for these tackels and to tie boltsnaps (since that can also be easily cut if needed and also has good load bearing security)? Or is that a stupid idea?
Hi, well of course you can but fishing line is a bit "stubborn" and pretty slippery compared to caveline and that is why I would not use it for any application where you need to be able to grap it. For simple marking purpose you could use it of course.
Speargun rubber clench knot works for mouth piece as well.
Hey, eine zwei Fragen zur Angelschnur, geflochtene ? Und welche Stärke am besten ? Super video vielen Dank für die Tips.
I am an older guy , new to diving. Really interesting video's. What thickness is this ? Is it dacron or nylon ?
Súper 🍀
Nice video, thanks. So the yellow line around the double-ended is just marking?
Hi Claude, yes in the first place it is a marking (and a nice object to show the knot :-) In fact it also enhanced he grip on the snap a bit but that I figured by unsing it myself and it was not the primary intention
Thanks, last time I saw this in another video, 'D rings and Boltsnaps'. I thought that is for skid-proof. I see.
👍
check out any youtube vid on basic seamanship & knots - this is called "whipping"....
Lemmy!
Achim,
What type of fishing line do you use on mouthpiece? Mono or braided?
Line diameter/Average breaking strain?
Thanks for the well reasoned, (and presented), information in your videos!

constrictor knot - self tightening knot ; named by snake ;-)
BTW, this is known as a "Common Whipping Knot",
it is call simple whipping not tackeling
Why not just carry spare cable ties?
