It is important that the short ends be secured if using a square knot (cross knot in the video) to join the line. This knot can be capsized and undone if a short end and long end on the same side are pulled at the same time, causing the leash to come apart (there are videos on youtube that give a good visual).
Hi, great video's for which many thanks. Just a question about making this leash. Why don't you use a fishermans knot or double fishermans knot to close the loop instead of a flat knot with small rope to secure it?
Hi, thanks. They are sold here as "shop table mat" it is like a very heavy neopren. I bought it in a shop specialized in professional tools and machinery.
Ok just a question as I am kind of relearning a lot around tech diving. Why clip the leash off to the (already/usually occupied) hip D-ring and not to the D-ring close to the back plate on the crotch strap?
Just out of curiosity, why not use a double fisherman for the knot? That's the proven knot in the climbing world for joining two lines (where your life depends on it holding) and they will never untie once cinched. Do those not work well?
Hi Nic, thanks for that. Yes, that works, but is slightly bigger which is the reason I go for the other one. Nut of course it will do the job perfectly.
Although I am not a technical diver I find so many interesting tips here that benefit normal scuba. Thank you Achim.

Great video. Regarding the line you used for the whipping, what did you use? Thanks.
6mm braided for the main line and then regular spool line for tackling
Thanks man.
Achim, great detailed video. I redo some of my clips after watching this. Where did you get the table mat? Looking to get something similar.

Hello,
Wouldnt it be easier to handle the leash and clip stages on it if the line was thicker? For example a line of 8mm thickness?
Thanks
A great video keep it up !
