Love these kind of research and test videos. Putting numbers on the table discards assumptions we have on stuff. Thanks for putting time and efforts into understanding and sharing these things. Keep it going!

Hi Rob, thanks for the How to Series. Any chance you could show us how you rig your new Vecta2 belt reel with the wishbone bead and plastic sleeve at the end? Is it using an arbor, figure 8 or EBSB knot? Thanks in advance

I never thought anyone would want to know how to do that, I will do it and, the reason why we do a loop and not a clip.

What about using dynema for the shooting line and getting rid of the mono?

Personal preference, some do. We still have a loop at the end of the shooting line and the quick release knot to enabling you to pull the spear through the fish.

I've always used the figure 8 style with a noose instead of the fishing knot

Slip knots for Breakaways instead of crimping direct from float line to shooting line?

    Hey Rob!
I just upgraded my 90cm tuna rail gun into a roller. As it is going to be a smaller roller gun I am thinking of rigging it with a double wrap of dyneema. Is the shooting line dyneema going to be same as the reel line dyneema or is it recommended to have a smaller ( 1.6mm) dyneema shooting line paired with a 2mm dyneema reel line?
Appreciate the help and huge fan.
    Luka

You can use the 1,5mm but most use the same diameter that is on the reel.

why would you not just use the reel line as the shooting line? can you do that ? if so what size dyneema would you use.

Hi John, no problem tying the reel line straight to the spear but you would then not be able to disconnect the spear and pull the shooting line through the fish if you have an issue getting the spear out. No problem using Dyneema shooting line and making a loop to tie the reel line into in stead of using mono. Most still prefer using mono as the shooting line but no problem using Dyneema at all.
