- Last Weekend I was lucky enough to fly to Sydney, Australia to photograph the Ace Hotel. Whilst there I did a lot of street photography and I am starting to really get the bug for it. Join me as i document the whole journey and the pros and cons of travel photography on film.

Lucy, this is next level! Beautiful video! Music and the whole production! It’s like a movie 😊 You can tell how much effort was put into it… Keep going with the street photography! 🤩
Ohhhhh thank you so much matt! Glad to hear it and appreciate you noticing the effort. Can’t wait to do some street stuff again!
Great video! Looks like you had a fun and productive time. At around 8:08 - Lucy Lumen blending in. I love that shot.
Great video as always! Can’t wait to see more Street photography. What you’ve shared so far looks amazing!
Thank you my lovely Molly. Excited to keep shooting street stuff. Just need to make an effort to go to more city type places I think.
Loving these photographs! I'm excited to see the street photography journey you seem to be going on.
This is great, Lucy!! It’s so good
Thanks Jason

The dream camera for vertical compositions!
So true
Great video Lucy and so many cool and exciting things you are making happen!!! Keep inspiring!!!
This is such a cool concept! Also, mad props for the video work on this one, it looks like a Wong Kar Wai film
Thank you so much! Wow 😯 that is hands down the best comparison anyone has ever made. His films are amazing and a total inspiration to us! Thank you 😊
@@LucyLumen No worries! Keep it up
Very fun video, love the vibes of the hotel
Glad you enjoyed it Alex!
Really digging the video and the music. It felt like a movie 😀 Kudos to Mr Lumen :) Great one as always
Wow thank you! This is the best comment and yes how god is Mr lumen I am so very lucky to have him and his talent in my life!
Loved this a lot! Hotel shots were very cool and brought out the vibe very well.
Agree that flying with all the gear is very painful. Even for me problem was not film but so many things and the weight of and keeping track of everything is stressful. I forgot my iPad at security and just remembered it before getting on the airplane. Makes me want just take one digital camera when flying.
Also the digicam video footage was very cool
So glad you got to go on a trip out of Qld. Been a while since I have been to Sydney. I need to get back to ol' Sydney town :)
Great video, Lucy. Your aesthetic really shined through. Sorry the PEN F is being weird - I got mine CLA'd and it sorted out the one issue I was having real quick. Also like your mentioning the downsides of these big projects and can relate on the kiddo front. i love the first 24 hours without my daughter and then I just want her back with us, lol.
Thank you so much! Yes I need to send it away to that OM analog guy! Glad to hear you feel the same about being away from the kids too haha first 24 hours is soooooo nice and then it takes a dark turn haha
Your video production is looking great Lucy!
All down to my partner Lux! He is amazing 🤩 I’m very lucky. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
I am interested to see your street photography efforts as I suspect you will find interesting and different perspectives to the normal stuff we see on social media. Good luck and blow us away!
Thank you Gavin! I hope I can find something different to share with you all. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Love this
Thank you! Love you! I told the staff I had a friend staying in the Toronto one and how I wished I was there. They told me that the Toronto one looks similar to the Sydney location actually. Xx
@@LucyLumen it's like we went on work vacations together, but on opposite sides of the world, though my director with me is Australian and headed home after the shoot so the force is real! :P
I'll be doing street photography with my new Zorki 4
Very nice shots. Sounds like a congratulations is in order here for you getting to do this.
Traveling with camera gear, my best advice is to travel with one camera brand and lens mount. Being able to use the same lenses on both film and digital cameras seriously cuts down on how much gear you need to bring with you.
If there was a micro4/3 film camera, that's what I would pick myself these days, because of how compact and light micro4/3 lenses and cameras can be. But, that's obviously not an option. The last time I went travelling, I thought I was going to use Nikon gear until I compared the weight to a similar Canon kit... I brought Canon gear for that trip - and a small pocketable point & shoot camera.
So cool! Loved hearing about your experience with this project. I'm curious did you find it easy to mesh into the night crowds, like were people super open to you taking photos since it was an event?
Amazing! A hard case from say Vanguard is great for air travel.
Have you considered the Olympus Pen EED or the likes in stead of the Canon?
I myself have zero experience with the camera line, but I know a few people who wouldn't like another.
Looks like the place and your photographic style really vibe together. They got a good deal out of this - you should have asked for more than a room. ;) But maybe you did, being the smart girl you are. :)
11:39 Hey, about your Pen FT issues. The spacing issues between frames might be a common issue with the film advance spools in the camera - they tend to break because Olympus went cheap on the material to make these - they're plastic. They're impossible to repair - most places still servicing Olympus cameras won't do that (anymore). If you can prove me wrong, please leave a comment somewhere for me to find - I have a Pen FV with a broken film advance wheel that is otherwise in mint condition but it just does not advance film at all (even though the advance turns the wheel, but it cannot exert enough force to transport with film in the camera).
On the topic of street photography - if you like the look of the half-frame images, I would say the Pen FT is a really good street photography camera. It's fairly easy to zone focus given the smaller frame size and hence shorter focal lengths. And you have infinite shots on a roll. If you can get your Pen FT fixes, roll with it on the street.
Look into a media pass when traveling. It gets you better rates when flying with gear. Also in the states they are all self authorized.😂
:0 I don’t think I’ve shot 9 rolls in the past year
It was a lot to shoot haha 😆 I wouldn’t shoot that much if I wasn’t doing it for work/somewhere travelling!
I missed these types of videos. The other videos have been boring.
Lol 😂 thanks
Love everything about this. well done guys 🫡
Thanks my friend!
Love your work Lucy! Welcome to Sydney. The Ace Hotel certainly has a vibe. You are correct to plan what gear to take based on outcomes to achieve and baggage limitations placed upon you. Appreciate your efforts always.
Thank you lovely! Appreciate your kind words and thank you for watching the video too. We had so much fun 🤩 definitely keen to come back to the ace!
