Like the only times he was able to talk down to Ivar was when he didn’t have some sort of weapon on him yet basically right after battle he decided “yep this seems like a good time to go on one of my classic rants even though Ivar is still wearing his armour and has his weapons on him”. Sigurd constantly throws shade at Ivar for they’re mother paying more attention to Ivar but honestly like what does Sigurd have to bitch about ? He’s not a cripple,he’s not treated any differently from any of the boys yet consistently shits on Ivar for no apparent reason. Yes Ivar has a temper but I’m sure you would lose your cool if one of your family members treated you like absolute shit for literally just being born.

I think it's interesting to watch Ubbe's reaction to this. He's mostly quiet. He tries to be reasonable. He steps up when Bjorn decides he's over the squabbling. When Ivar starts to get pissed at Sigurd, you can tell Ubbe knows what happens when Ivar gets like this.
Ubbe is honestly the most interesting character besides Bjorn and Alfred. He, more than anyone, embodied Ragnar's spirit. Ragnar valued family above all else. Ironically, so much that it destroyed his family, he refused to give up his unborn child with Aslaug. All Ragnar did, he did for his family and people. Ubbe does the same.

This entire conversation is very good body language lesson im not saying what Ivar did was right but Sigurd should have kept his mouth shut he said too much and in medieval times insulting someone's manhood leads to death it appears that Sigurd isn't very smart.When someone is acting dumb either ignore them or pretend your on their side call them out only when they go too far.

Everybody here are bitching about Sigurd. I'm not - he was brave and honest enough to face Ivar. He was right about him and Aslaug from the very beginning. Sure, he constantly made fun of Ivar, but he had every reason for it: even though Ivar was cripple and really needed more attention, Aslaug neglected other children including Siggy and Sigurd himself and focused on Ivar too much
Also cuddled him after he killed that boy as a child. Ivar is a spoiled brat. I hated his character

This show isn’t accurate lmao. Shoulda had the memo when they had Ragnar the legendary Norse hero. Rollo the first Duke of Normandy and founder of the Norman dynasty. And Floki the first man to sail to Iceland as people who knew each other during the same time period in the same place in Scandinavia
We have to seperate historical accuracy from historical fiction. So stop whining and just be entertained.

It's scenes like this that I wonder if Vikings was intentionally supposed to be a subtle kind of alternate history. Since in the sagas, a lot of characters that died early were supposed to do some accomplishments that were - in the show - credited to other people.
In this case, the sagas say Sigurd became a king. Didn't happen in this series.
It’s historical FICTION, it’s twisted history to become a more entertaining drama series. It’s not supposed to be historically accurate or at least 100% accurate all the time

I know that Ubbe & Hvitserk immediately went to Sigurd’s aide but it was already too late. Did you notice how Sigurd looked right at Ubbe just after he pulled Ivar’s ax out of his chest? The look Sigurd gave Ubbe was like a look of “what just happened?”

The only time i remember Sigurd starting with Ivar was in the forest when he threw the axe at him, and the dinner scene with the rest of the family apart from that every disagreement they had it was Ivar who initiated the conflict. And since then Ivar has gone onto fight the rest of his brothers but they are the problem lol, to make it worse now i am hearing he will probably kill Bjorn in the season 6 finale. That's two sons of Ragnar this guy would've killed, the true heir to Ragnars legacy was always Ubbe all Ivar is good for is killing his kin and to be fair has a good strategic mind in warfare.

My original point was people portraying Ivar as a victim like you when it came to Sigurd, Sigurd didn't bully Ivar they both provoked one another, go watch the show again, they had a few disagreements in Kattegart and as soon as they landed in England Ivar kept provoking Sigurd . My second comment was a reply to someone else trying to justify Ivars actions which you can't justify, he killed Sigurd because he threw a tantrum and couldn't take criticism when he started the argument and the scene is above watch it, who started the argument?
I like Ivar but he can't take verbal confrontation, he was even gonna kill Hvitserk last season, Hirst has made Ivar the forefront of the show along with his brothers, which is OK Ivar is a brilliant strategist, him being a cripple and having a physical disadvantage relates to so many people and makes the show interesting but please don't come with your bias explanations trying to tell me its alright for Ivar to kill his siblings just because everyone else in the show does it, two wrongs don't make a right.

Seriously, Rollo get into a lot of shit for just trying to kill Ragnar, yet Ivar was able to crawl free after killing his Sigurd in front of hundreds of witnesess.
I always hated this moment because it didn't have real consequences for him.
It would be creepy and sad if Sigurd's eyes became blue when fell to the ground and red blood came out as tears.
Sigurd got what was coming, how long did he think Ivar was just gonna keep his anger in check. That’s just my opinion though

He is because Auslaug said the prophecy about the snake in the eye and clearly said that the son was Ragnar's. Since Sigurd really had something like that in his eye, we can take Auslaug prophecy as the truth, and have to acknowledge every part of it as real, even the part when she says that is actually Ragnar son.

I do have a lot of sympathy for Sigourd, and any of the other children Aslaug neglected, Ivar I’m sure needed attention and it’s good that both his parents absolutely loved him, but he’s too crazy to see where his brother is coming from, I do think Ivar felt guilty for what he did cuz that’s still his brother, I also think after a while Sigourd should’ve really stopped teasing him, it’s fine to standup to him cuz Ivar really just gets worse and worse, but he always resorted to teasing and he should’ve stopped that cuz honestly even if I didn’t fear my baby brother I would leave him alone a bit cuz this isn’t even the first time Ivar has a attempted to kill him, this is just the first time no one was able to stop him in time

what held the show back was random, weird moments like these. "lets have Ivar kill Sigurd and nothing to come from it", "lets have a series regular randomly drown for no real reason" "lets have Ivar and Hvitserk join the Russians in some weird massive attack that historically never took place"

The fact they killed of Sigurd here is just futher testament to how much of disgrace the show became. Bjorn giving his best Ragnar impression is pure cringe too, it's unbearable.
Everybody worried about historical accuracy surely knows this was a fictional account. Enjoy it for what it is, there’s plenty of dry books about the true story.
Guy was literally one of the epic kings of the great heathen invasion that went on to live a long life. But for some reason killed in the show. It was this exact moment the show sold its soul.

this isn't a documentary, it's a dramatised show inspired by real history, Rollo isn't even Ragnars brother, there are many innacurate things in this show.

Sigurd bullied Ivar his whole life, always remarking on his disability, and using as a weapon to hurt him, Ivar's anger towards Sigurd likely built itself up every single time they got into an argument. This was the last straw, not only did he insult Ivar's manhood, he once again brought up his disability which Ivar was very insecure about in front of an entire army. Ivar's anger, and need for retribution overtook his sense here, and I don't blame him, Sigurd was stupid, and should've seen this coming.
And let me guess, all women should wear chastity belts and iron trousers to ensure no man who cannot control his anger and his instincts forces himself on them?
Afterall that's what you're saying. We're just mindless animals and it's okay to murder our own siblings in cold blood over an argument, because of course we would, not being in any control of our emotions at all. Right? :^)

It's for the viewers that aren't well educated in history like in season 1 when earl heraldson said they would raid Russia but Russia didn't exist it was Rus. Or something else I believe. It's to let people know where it has happened or give them a general idea of what they are talking about
Northumbria, where Ragnar dies, along with Mercia and East Anglia, were founded by Angles, not Saxons. England of course means 'Land of the Angles', but here, for simplicity's sake, they use it in the post tenth century sense to refer to all the Germanic ruled land south of Scotland.

Historically sigurd has a bigger role and accomplished way more than Ivar than what the show is showing us. He becomes the king of Denmark and Bjorn become the king of Sweden. Harold becomes king of Norway. The other brothers are famous raiders and warlords but pretty much die as exactly that.
Yes but in the show it's pretty clear that he has no role , if they wanted to keep it real they should have told the real story of Sigurd , but they didn't . They could have omitted this " snake eyes " thing too , and use it to empower Ivar's character .

@@ChadHuey79 Ivar was historically the oldest. He lead the Great Heathen Army, ruled Dublin, and is known as one of, if not the most famous Viking in history besides Ragnar and Bjorn.
Sigurd has the snake in the eye because the real Sigurd killed a dragon. Ivar being the snake (dragon) It makes sense they don't get along. They are natural rivals.
