Well said. Me as a ex secular rocker since 1981 and received Jesus 1988 I learn this through the years is not easy now with my teenagers to teach this specialty today 2023 but the word of God is clear in this we have do it wisely to please God. the more we are close to God and his word this is not a big problem. We need to mature to be wise in this world and to preach and teach the word of God. God bless you all 🎶🎵♥️🙂👍

2:50 - yes, I've been shocked to hear a song that I get excited about, for enjoying it years ago, and then listen to what it says! "This is disgusting," I've said out loud. The pretty music no longer seemed pretty at all.

Some of the best worship music that has brought me closer to God has been Contemporary Christian Music. At one time, the music of the Salvation Army was considered non-Christian but, over time proved itself. Don't be so narrow minded.

I like your opinions that you’ve expressed in your video. I agree with you. I’ve heard some rather wack opinions on this topic by other professed “authorities” on this subject in so-called “Christian” circles on RUclips. This is a highly subjective topic, I think. My personal take here. I am a “Cold War” baby-boomer who grew up during the 1960s, and I love the music of that era and I have a decent sized collection of secular pop/rock music from that era. I came to Christ in the 1970s. I’ll take the lyrics idea even a step further. I won’t listen to music that is an obvious offense to my conscience, but that said, I never listened to or placed any importance on lyrics anyway. Paul alluded to him not paying any mind to his eating meat that was sacrificed to idols. It was just good tasting meat to him. His exception was unless it offended his brother or if the seller told him so. A matter of offending someone else’s conscience. We should work these things out for ourselves with the freedom we have in Christ. Thanks for your insightful thoughts.

Very well written. I'm a Christian guitarist and as well as playing in the praise and worship group in our church I also play jazz, blues, rock, classical and various styles to entertain people and to teach people how to play the guitar. To be honest it is the creativity of the music that I am interested in rather than the lyrics. You could say I prefer the lyrics of the christian songs (to worship) more than the music and prefer the music of secular music rather than the lyrics - that's just in general. I played in a Christian rock band and it was the music that attracted people to our gigs and it was then that they were prepared to ask what we were all about. If we played Christian choruses only then those same people would have never attended our gigs. Music is neutral and it is how you live your life for Christ that is important. Thank you Lord, all glory to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

It's not the style, but the content. While the most famous religious compositions like the St. Matthew Passion by J.S Bach, Messiah by G.F Händel or Stabat Mater by Karol Szymanowski or Requiem by Mozart are all written by classical composers using different styles, there are other classical operas and ballets with explicit violent and/or sexual references.

    What is secular?
If Christ is all in all ?
I think it’s a big mistake to think “Christian good; Rest bad “
As Christians, we should remember our history, that some of the greatest crimes in history have been committed by Christians (supporting slavery, for example).
Some music written by Christians is not edifying (in my opinion). Much music written and played bye people who do not profess to be Christians is wonderful.
The good news is that the holy spirit is at work in the world!

There are songs that literally are quite simply put-down songs. They are played in supermarkets etc, everywhere radio is. It is so baffling as to why anybody would be joyful listening to such negativity. The only explanation is that the devil does indeed influence everything of the world.

Listen to an ex rock musician’s testimony. One actually said that there was a certain note he stopped playing on his guitar because it was “dark”. If you have discernment, the Holy Spirit will let you know. How can certain music help us connect with God, Who is Holy, in worship, if it’s intended more for the flesh to enjoy and was probably invented by nonbelievers. Just think of the secular music industry!
I think it’s a matter of taste, mostly. But we shouldn’t justify ANYTHING simply because it’s what WE like. God/Jesus Christ is preeminent. And we must die to our desires - to our flesh. Satan uses music as mantras and many kids/people may even become demon possessed by listening. Witch doctors and voodoo priests use the drums to conjure up “stuff”. Should we assume that God is in that? Let’s pray for discernment. We have His Spirit. He will never lead us in the wrong direction. He WILL deliver us from the evil one. If it doesn’t edify our inner man, if it doesn’t glorify God… We have such a “whatever” attitude towards the things of God, but He is HOLY, HOLY, HOLY. Isaiah 6:3, Revelation 4:8
    God bless you all.

Can a bad tree bear good fruit? Using our discernment sometimes is not enough. We are faulty so we can get it wrong and we can be deceived by the subtleness of a very sneaky enermy. God wants us to separate totally from the song and those responsible for these songs

Stop with the man made rules. (No R rated movies, no anime, no pizza, no vacations).
Rules are made to condemn(hence why we have the old testament law). A person condemned needs a savior.
Jesus came to save not to condemn. As He said he had come to give us life and have it to the full. As Paul said He called us to be free!
However we're not to use our freedom to gratify our sinful flesh. And we're not to exercise our freedom if it cause others to stumble and yes we're free to do everything but not everything is beneficial. Eternal life starts now not after we die(physically)
How to be free? Follow Jesus! Trust in His process! Deny your sinful selves then take up your cross. And when His perfect timing comes crucify it and you will no longer walk in the sinful flesh but in the Spirit(9 Biblical fruits of the spirit)! Read the Bible by yourself!
Stop thinking that your religion; Catholic, Protestant,Evangelic, Mormon, etc. is the narrow way. No! How many of their members know why Jesus came for? Jesus is the narrow way! He's the way, the truth and the life!
    God bless us all!❤️🕊️

Not all secular music is bad. For example: George Strait sings some great songs, like “I Saw God Today.” The song is about his daughter being born, and he sees God in the gift of life. It's a beautiful song. But that doesn't mean I approve of all of Mr. Strait's music, such as his bad song, “Overnight Male” or his adulterous song “Seashores Of Old Mexico.” These songs promote sexual immorality. These are worldly songs. These are very different than George's song “I Saw God Today.” Do you see the difference? So, yes, I do think it is acceptable for a Christian to listen to secular music, but should abstain from worldly music.
James Taylor's music is beautiful. I think it is acceptable to hear songs like “How Sweet It Is” and “You've Got A Friend.” I like Don William's song “I Believe In You.” Examples of worldly music would be Rod Stewart's “Do You Think I'm Sexy” and Madonna's “Like A Virgin,” which openly promote sexual immorality.
Let me ask you a question? Is it sinful to eat in a restaurant that sells liquor? Be careful before you answer, because if you shop at K-mart you are supporting the sale of booze. If you buy gas at the local fuel station, you are helping keep a business open that sells cigarettes to ruin people's health. Fuel stations also sell lottery tickets, which support sinful gambling schemes. The whole concept of gambling to get rich is sinful. Fuel stations sell condoms, to help fornicators and adulterers. When we really get down to the nitty-gritty, we are all hypocrites to some degree, who all help support evil in one form or another. How could we not do so, when we are a part of a degenerate American culture? So be careful before you condemn a fellow believer for listening to secular music.
