my view on music is it’s an issue of conscience. if you feel the Spirit’s conviction because of something you’re listening to, that means you shouldn’t be listening to it. it might be different for different Christians
That's true. My views on love songs were the most significantly altered after I've met Jesus. I now avoid those that talk about sappy, heartbroken, desperate, or obsessive love, and listen to those whose lyrics can apply to God and His love, such as Rick Astley's NGGYU.
I'm not even a Christian, but I like watching this kinda thing so i can better understand my Christian friends. You never want to make them uncomfortable. Thank you for creating this educational video.
As a Christian I thank you so much for this. I always feel so stressed whenever I hang out with other people that are not Christian and I feel like they will lead me into sin, I always pray for them but I just wished I had more friends that agree with my beliefs and/or respected them. God bless you! ❤️
Hey friend! I used to say the exact same thing. Now I’m a christian. Someone’s knocking at yoour door 🥹🙌🙏🏾 May God bless you and may He reveal Himself to you. I had a christian friend who I asked questions like these to respect her and never make her uncomfortable and it was only a matter of time. 🙌❤️
I'm from iran and i recently converted to christianity Thank ya all guys for your guides and help I'll do my best to improve my christian knowledge With ur help ofc. Peace ❤✝️☦️
@@KathySalmeronVO that is absolutely not true ladies, while yes most rap music is garbage today I believe there are a handful of artists such as 2pac, 50 Cent, Eminem, DMX and MANY others who speak their Truths! And speak what the hardships of being a Man in a corrupted world can be like and they speak from their own experiences in life, you are not to judge others at that itself is a sin and understand you alone will never know what someone else went through or is going through, if you do more research on some of the artist the world calls “bad” music, you will see a decent amount of those artist have good hearts which only the lord himself has the right to truly judge. Wake up ladies just because something is Bad doesn’t mean it’s not Real or true. “The Truth hurts, but the Truth will set you free”
I wish that more people, especially teens and young adults (25 and under) whether they are Christian or non christians, would see this and understand how influential music is in their lives.
Non-Christians don’t care about your bullsh*t. I listen to Bad Religion, Corperate Avenger and Choking Victim. These songs absolute disparage religion. If I go to hell for listening to them, I literally couldn’t care less, their music is too good.
Ikr. I'm 16, and I always pay attention to the lyrics in a song. There was this one song that I heard, it sounded pretty nice, but the lyrics said, "I walk through the valley of death, but my gun comforts me. And I know I'll kill my enemies." A bit later it said, "I met someone who claimed to be the Saviour of the Earth, but I asked 'How can you save the Earth from itself?'" The song sounded realllyy nice, like some beautiful country music, and I tried to convince myself that it didn't mean what I thought it did. But I knew deep down that I shouldn't listen to it, so I never added it to my playlist, and never listened to it after that
@@Sushie55 So it raises as a valid point against the validity of religious claims and you’re too scared to even listen to the song? Maybe it’s because you’re faith isn’t as unshakable as you make out. You know the truth, but you’re still in denial
@@ProsecutorZekrom Huh? When did I ever say I was scared? I just said that it’s not something I should listen to. Why are you coming after my faith just bc I chose not to listen to a certain song?
I fought with satanic music for 3 years. Its like an addiction. It changed the way i perceived myself an others. I even started worshipping satan in public to my Christian family. I ignored Gods words and hated him openly. I knew it was wrong and I felt guilty but the music was my life. I needed it. I finally got out of it a few months ago after God gave me a horrifying dream. I saw how it affected my mom and myself. especially how it mocked the church. So i begged God to forgive me and that I needed his strength to get out of this hole I was in. I turned away from it fully and I can feel the change. People can see the change. I'm just happy that God helped me after I hated him for so long.
That's good that you no longer worship Satan and while not all satanic music is metal I will say as a metal head the metal music that is actually satanic sounds terrible compared to regular metal music idk how people can enjoy it when it sounds so crappy
I also want to add that there’s music which “got me through” times of hardship and loneliness that God revealed were actually doing me harm. I memorized and bought merchandise for bands that are talented, unique, and creative, but outright professed and evil and contrary things. I turned a blind eye to it because it was fictional, a story element. But you know what? Falling in love with that band coincided with my biggest distance from God. Likewise, thank you so much Lord, that my being drawn into his presence again and being rescued by Jesus coincided with conviction to feel that band was selling me poison and I was eating it.
For me it was the song Shepherd of Fire, by Avenged Sevenfold. I used to jam out to that song all the time, and then I recently found out that the point of the song was to portray Satan as, not really a "good guy," but as a protagonist. TBH, the stuff they said about him, while buried under enough metaphor to hide it, were pretty glorifying. Turns out that album was one of their albums that I can't really listen to much of, there were other songs I had to remove for similar reasons. Planets was about nothing else but senseless destruction and the end of humanity. Requiem was about a prayer to God, asking him to smite his enemies, but it portrays him as a sort of evil, dark lord. Acid Rain was a follow up to Planets, about two lovers floating through space waiting to suffocate to death.
I feel like I might know the band you're talking about, but then again a ton of bands now have been professing these kind of things which are lies and tempts us to go farther away from God. I know cause I used to be a fan as well until it did my spritiual life wrong. We really are in the evil times and we have to be careful.
I am a teenager who is starting to know god and this video helped me alot especially because i have been struggling with this type of things, thank you :)
Hello my fellow Christian family. I'm new. I'm reading the Bible from the beginning. I'm a musician. I was a death / black metal kinda guy. It's been hard. I threw it all away. My musical word shrunk to a pin hole. The way I write music on my instruments has drastically changed. God took my anger. My hate. My fears. My anxiety. My blackened heart and soul and blew a new life inside me. Now my musical writing is brighter. I try to play for the lord. As for bands to listen to. I only like 1 single song anymore. 1. Just 1. Amazing Grace. I was so lost. Praise jesus.
It's okay to like metal! There are Chrstian Rock/Metal artists like Demon Hunter, Red, Skillet, etc. Same goes for rap, there's Christian Rappers like Bryson Gray, Tyson James, Mesus, Isaiah Robin, etc.
@@gregkareem9824 it's alright man, God knows what's in your heart and knows exactly what you're struggling with, before you go into your prayer just imagine God standing right in front of you and ask him for clarity and help with expressing yourself and it will happen. i was the same way, God bless you and don't ever give up ❤️
As long as it doesn’t encourage or make you sin with conviction of the holy spirit, anything goes for the believer in respect to their relationship with the Lord
@@Fatnihaodude Depends. Harry Potter is a perfect example. It’s literally about spells and which craft. If you think it’s sinful to watch for yourself, don’t watch it. If it does not affect you in any way negatively, should be fine. Stuff like that falls in the grey area Paul talks about in Romans. There are obvious shows you most likely shluldn’t watch. Any that encourage the demonic things. The one show that comes to mind personally is one called Black Clover where a kid befriends a demon for power and that demon has human origin. Sounds familiar considering fallen angels bred with women before the flood many years ago.
I found this video at the most perfect time! I was praying Last night Because I have been told and have even been scolded about listening to secular music, I got really scared because music is a big part of my life especially growing up so I didn’t just want to give it up if I didn’t actually have to. I prayed and prayed asking God to give me the answer and this morning I found it through this video ❤ thank you!!!
This video comes to my life (or is placed in it by God) at just the right moment. And I have this key takeaway “Surrender everything you listen to, so it doesn’t take you away from your relationship with God”. I will take this beautiful, precious nugget of wisdom to every part of my life. So, thank you, thank you for sharing this.
I grew up in the church, so i was raised to not listen to any music with swearing. For a while this was fine but just this summer at Bible camp i realized. Sometimes, even if its not swearing or being explicit, the theme of the song is still depressing or wrong or it doesn't bring glory to God. So i ended up removing all secular music except for instrumental songs like jazz. and wow. My relationship with Jesus has been stronger than ever, and my mind and faithfulness has been stronger than ever. Its hard to cut it out, especially the really good or nostalgic songs. But you wont regret it. Glory to God ❤
Same here all I listened to was juice wrld and other popular artist and I had like over 1000 songs I had to delete now I listen to caleb gordan and hulvey. Even Skillet I really love there songs there's hope still for good Christian music.
@@Umtam3d762 W! So proud of you. Caleb and Hulvey definitely opened my eyes to Christian hip hop 👍 I also found ELEVATION RHYTHM and they are a big source of my hype music.
As a Christian, I've always struggled with thus thought, especially now. My dad hates the fact that I listen to secular music sometimes, and is always giving me recommendations on good worship music. It's not that I don't like worship music (in fact i actually love it!), it's just that I kinda want the freedom to listen to other things too. Obviously not so etching worshiping Satan, but none the less, there are other good music's out there too. When I saw thus notification, I immediately clicked on the video. Tysm, ily, and thanks for making be a better Christian. ❤ Edit: what the heck tysm for the like guys it's literally been just a couple hours 😭
There are a lot of things that we are permitted to do, but have no benefit. I also listen to secular music, but more than often I listen to Christian rap, pop, and indie. When I do listen to secular music I pay close attention to what I'm singing and what the lyrics are, I don't listen to Cardi B because nothing she sings about is good for me to have in my mind. But I listen to Adele, I like her song Go Easy on Me. No matter what protect your walk with Christ and seek his opinion on all things, just make sure you're open and ready to listen to his answer.
Discernment is important in what content we consume and welcome into our lives, and I think that's true of things like music, movies, TV and video games. If something is saturated in sinfulness, we should avoid it when it causes us to stumble. I've personally enjoyed secular music that explores themes of redemption, perseverance and hardship because they encourage me to be a better person.
Does music without lyrics have anything bad in them? Like video game osts or movie osts? I have only seen a single comment talking about it, so in my mind, it's either not bad (unless you put more time into it than God), or people just don't consider that type of stuff "real music"
after i fully gave my life to Christ, i made the choice to repent and turn away from listening to worldly music, because i often listened to songs and bands that sang about stuff that only dragged me down and made me drift from God. now, i recently got an urge to re-listen to an old worldly song that used to absolutely love, and i noticed that while i was listening, i didn’t get that old burst of excitement or joy of listening to the song that i used to. it stirred up nothing, and that’s when i knew that God had truly gotten His hold on me. i felt grateful that i didn’t have that old love for those songs or those bands anymore, and i thank God for giving me the strength to get through that temptation when i first made that choice, because satan wasn’t going to let me go so easily. i’m proud and thankful to say that guy has no power over me anymore. i pray that God gives whoever is struggling with the same things i did the strength, determination, and courage to get through those trials. God loves you all! ❤
I think for me I just try to listen to music without swearing or bad messages. This has led me to listening to Christian music more and realizing how powerful music is. I mean one good Gospel song can get stuck in my head for hours or even days. So what if I was listening to secular music it would mean that a worldly message is being constantly circulating my head.
Yes dear Out of the Abundance of the heart the mouth would speak. You say what is inside you. So if you are one that feed in godly content, you will speak clean and godly Words. And if you take in filth you will speak dirty and filthy words. Prov 4:23 GUARD your heart with all diligence for out of it flows the issues of life
Thank you so so much for this video. This is the most in depth, Christian way that i’ve ever seen someone tackle this topic. And to add to the verse at 6:25 , 1 Corinthians 6:12 says the same thing and also states “but I will not be mastered by anything” which I believe is very important. Any music that allows lust, malice etc to dwell on your mind should definitely be a no.
This is such an important thing to talk about I feel. For me personally, I just graduated with a music degree but my taste in music has always been... not normal. I'm a gamer and so most of the music I listen to is either music form video games or worship music. And within the scope of game music I discern whether or not I should listen to a song (most video game music is instrumental but some have words or other, potentially negative meanings - those I'll avoid) This was a blessing. Thank you
I’m an aspiring composer and plan graduate in 2026 with a degree in music composition and I get what you mean, both video game and film music is so cool to listen to, definitely my favorite kind as well
Love from India, Thank you, brother... This channel is a great blessing to young believers like me. I had initially made music an idol (as a younger believer) so for quite some time with GOD's help I stopped listening to secular music at all. Now I follow a general rule - listen to more worship songs than secular music.. And avoid all music with bad/abusive language.. GOD bless you
@@zteir yes exactly.. Bad includes everything which leads me away from GOD.. It could be violence, substance abuse, threats, immorality, racial abuse, hate, resentment, bitterness etc...
Spiritual discernment is key! Everything permissible but not everything is beneficial. There a reason why God tells us to not lean on our own understanding instead to renew our minds daily in His Word and be transformed by it.
Thank you for this video! It has help me come to realize that I need to listen to music that don’t lead to depression, wanting to commit suicidal thoughts, and bad words. So I decided to find music that actually helps me feel more happy, motivated, and productive rather than something to make me feel sad, mad, or depressed. But thank you ❤
I’m from brazil, and I want to back to god. I feel so much miss about his presence. So, this channel will help me to go back to god as soon as possible. Let us begin trought music! ❤
Remember the wise man is the one that hears the word and does them. Mat 7 Have you been translating the things you have been hearing to actions? This is how you will get back to Him and grow your relationship. Put yourself in places where you are hearing what God is saying and practice them. What have you done about this one you just heard?
For me, I had to stop listening to bands like Linkin Park and other secular bands I loved (I won't name) and I remember after I stopped listening to that band, the doors closed. It was due to the negative themes and the passing of the late Chester Bennington. I couldn't feel bad about myself. Meanwhile music has led me to sin especially in my thoughts. It has led me to be burnt out. I'm not saying secular music is bad but be careful my brother's and sister's. Don't let it lead you to sin. Don't hurt yourself because of the music. Music has to have truth even if it's Christian or Secular otherwise we wouldn't be learning from how people live by truth. Let Christ lead you to listen to good music. Christian music can be a danger as well too depending on who you listen to. Be wise with the music you listen to!
Same. I used to love listening to MCR and Greenday, but after I became a Christian I realized that that type of music made me apathetic towards people and the world. Though it was hard, I had to give it up.
@balala4641 No but you can listen to love songs and no songs with bad words, rock love songs too ..I live in a strict Christian home but taking everything out is too much ..
When I was in high school, I met a guy who is a Satanist. He sang evil songs he wrote himself. I don't want to go into some of the lyrics because they are inappropriate for the forum. But it is best to take the advice of this video. The sort of music you are into really does say the sort of heart and soul you have inside of you. God bless you and remember Jesus loves you.
So what does EDM say about my spirit cause I’m not sure? I mainly listen to The Nights and Sunset Jesus both by Avicii. They are great songs I would recommend. The nights is about living life to the fullest because you never know when it’ll all end. Sunset Jesus is about finding Jesus during a sinful time.
At 16 I've listened to Deathcore bands, about murder, rape, combine the two but add a kid into the equation... Yeah terrible, oh terrible stuff... I suddenly got saved and switched to Christian Country (I'm not kidding)
It is better to be on the extreme safer side than be unsafe in the middle. Through music demons are sang in and sang out. David would play the Harp and the demon in Saul would lift. If that can happen, then, demons can be played in through music too. In all that we do let's be careful
Thanks for this video. I’m a pretty young Christian who’s struggling with a lot of things in the my faith right now. The music I listen to is one of them, and I was nervous about having to give up all of the music I listen to. I’m glad I don’t have to make such huge sacrifices. that being said, there are certainly songs I could do much better without. It may be a slow process, but it will be worth it in the end!
Yes! What you put in your ears is important to your soul! Before my dad was Christian, he listened to some very inappropriate songs that he still knows (and wishes to forget). Im also in the middle, i think if its not talking about things that go against the Bible, then yeah! Listen to it! If it's positive and uplifting or helpful for your soul, then sure! Just make sure it's not pulling you away from God (yes, that means no cusswords)! Im very pleased with this video. As a teenager, it can be hard to resist listening to bad music. Thanfully there are many artists who make actually really good catchy music, that is also christian! Thank you for this video ❤😊
Your references are always so powerful in these videos. Watching them along with these easy to follow drawings and i always take joy in writing things i learn from them. Glory to God!
I found 100's of Scripture music here on RUclips. A great way to memorize the Word for everyday need and to use it for Worship and to build up one's faith. I am Afrikaans speaking, so I am making sure I do understand the verses in the songs in my Afrikaans Bible. It is the only music I have in my house and what I am listening too.
I love that you support each tip with scripture. This proves that what you recommend to us is something we should apply to our lives because it’s surrounded by the truth. Praise God
Jesus loves you too... and may He bless you and your entire team. I was looking around ur RUclips page to see if you've done anything about music, a few days ago and found none. Only to see this when I browsed for a video. I saw the video I browsed for, but clicked on yours, and this seriously helped me. My music wasn't demonic neither did it say profane things. It simply said positive, happy, and encouraging stuff, no "toxic whatever" in it. And it didn't draw me away from God. But I started being unsure of myself until I watched this video. So thank you and I will keep an open eye and conscience to what I listen to; whether the beats or lyrics. Because two of these, either single handedly or together, can lead to sin so, ... God bless you all😊❤ Stay close to Christ, and may we hold on firmly to the truth, our faith in the Lord... Jesus loves you!! ❤❤
I listen to music A LOT and I can honestly tell you, what he's saying here is true. Music can affect your mood and it can definitely make its way into your heart in one way or another. For me personally, ask God what is okay and what's not okay to listen to. If you're asking Him with the purpose of growing close to Him, He will answer your prayers and will tell you whichever song you need to stay away from. Hope you have a good day and may the Lord bless you 🩵
You’re always on point with your videos and topics. I’ve been clearing my playlists from a lot of secular music, but a lot of the time there are songs that I just can’t part from. I try to replace those secular songs with worship songs, but those songs keep popping up out of nowhere, and it’s like a weed that keeps on growing and won’t go away. It’s difficult because I’m a teenager, and my friends are always listening to secular music. But I’ll continue trying to renew my playlists and the music I listen to.
im a Christian and I usually focus on 80s-90s r&b that doesn’t have swearing mainly because it’s the only decent music i can find nowadays that’s clean.
God has used secular music in the past before to speak to me. One day I was laying outside and I heard a motorcycle cycle approaching with music playing from his radio but I couldn't tell what it was. The Holy Spirit said to me "That's going to be a song you really like." When he stopped by the stop sign I could make out the song. It was Mr. Blue Sky by ELO. Which is the song that kick-started my love for music. I think that was an example of God showing me how He can speak to me. But yes, be careful what you listen to. I try to keep things clean and upbeat.
I relate with your message and guess what, it's one of my favourite songs, that one and others I believe I've been spoken to through, but yes, your conviction is correct, try to keep things clean and upbeat. Take it easy fellow brother/sister/other, may you have a great day from South Africa. :)
I personally don't think it really matters what music you listen to so long as you don't let it seep into your daily life. Music is just an artform, a way for people to express themselves. It's not brainwashing. It's sort of like back when people believed video games led to real life violence. I'm not against Christian music, of course, but I think people should be free to listen to whatever they want so long as it doesn't affect their life negatively. Edit: ... I should watch the full video next time before commenting... Had literally the same take as this guy. (Great video btw)
@@LRI1994he has a point there, I play grand theft auto and call of duty all the time but not once have I ever saw a gun and thought hey lets shoot someone. Blaming that sort of stuff on video games is like blaming car crashes on bumper cars
The issue is the spiritual aspect of these songs. We know the enemy is in the music industry like crazy and secular music has the youths wrapped around its fingers. I see it in my country and High-school for example where dancehall has turned this cultist porn music. The youths look up to this artists and dress and behave like them. Some examples are the messy long hair (this is coily hair btw we are black) , the extremely tight pants that they can barely move in,the worshipping of shoes which have landed other teens in the hospital because “they stepped on their Clark’s” and right now are fighting for his life. The music also promotes things like promiscuity and violence which these teens are following straight up
@aliciasam5239 Exactly what I'm saying. Had a festival that had a talent show just earlier at my school and some dude performed some rather inappropriate dances wearing very revealing clothing. What I'm saying is, if that the music you're listening to doesn't negatively impact your life, you should be free to listen to it. What i think one should do is truthfully reflect every now and then if the media you consume is making you a benefitting you or doing the opposite.
Praise be to God, I was convicted by the holy Spirit to stop liking kpop, i was obsessed with it. Dancing, humming and thinking about it more than I thought of God. My parents realized and immediately told me that it's wrong. Now I can see the truth and what God really wants me to do in my daily life. I've never thought that I'd be blasting worship music everyday but here I am. ❤
Thankyou for the work you do, I'm a new believer that is still working out his way in the Christian world. Haven't even been born again yet but your videos have been so valuable to me
I'm a huge fan of heavy metal, and lately, I've been trying to grow in my faith. I like a lot of rock bands like Shinedown, Metallica, Nirvana, and Avenged Sevenfold, but this year, I have found so many new Christian bands, like Disciple (my current favorite band), Manafest, Flyleaf, and this one that I'm not too sure about but I think they're Christian, called Demon Hunter. Now most of the stuff I listen to is Christian. I figure any song is safe to listen to as long as it doesn't glorify anything sinful.
Hey brother, I also recommend “wolves at the gate”. Obviously pray before you listen, and listen intently to the lyrics to see what does and does not align with God’s word. But I just thought I’d recommend. I also create Christian rock and metal, if you are interested you can check out my RUclips channel. I hope it can be a blessing to you. God bless!
@ItsKatsu That sounds cool. Where is this list? Also, thank you for confirming that Demon Hunter is a Christian band, because I wasn't sure. The first song that I discovered them from was The Last One Alive
@@Ironica82 Dude! I can't remember if it was Hero or Monster, but my earliest memory was listening to one of those songs in our old family van! You could say I've literally been a lifelong fan!
My mom likes christians Music And I also like these music. Sometimes they make me cry And thank you for this ❤ (All of them are spanish because we live on argentina)
I am learning on how to be a Christian. This is helpful, I was already baptized as a baby, but I feel that I should do something to have God help me in my life.
music can definitely be an addition, when you feel like you can't stop listening to that artist or that group, the song stays stuck in your head & won't leave like an attachment but it's unhealthy cuz it was pulling me away from God. it affected my mood & thoughts not in a good way. thankfully Jesus freed me from this & not only has this helped me in having less destructive thoughts & sin addiction, but my relationship with God has literally changed so drastically. music is such a huge part of my life using even that time to spend with Him has changed me for the better. also He's given so many great Christian alternatives to the point i don't even miss or think about those artists i used to idolize ♡ also if anyone needs recs for Christian music or ur fasting from secular music lmk i have playlists!!
I agree with you. For me, I listen to metal music. Now there will be obviously some extremes of metal music that does not glorify God but at the same time. There is beauty in metal music for example: Stryper is a heavy metal Christian band. I highly recommend them. I listen to metallica and there is a song that explains what happened in the book of exodus on the 10th plague which h is the passover, killing first born sons in Egypt which is biblical. I used to listen to bands like slayer and slipknot. Bands that write highly satanic lyrics, I praise God that I don't anymore cos I just can't listen to that stuff
Yes stryper is dope. I also love metallica too. Another song you should give a listen is after forever by Black Sabbath. It's pretty much one of the first ever christian metal songs.
Great video and message. I know for myself that listening to Christian music has a great impact on my mood when I start my day listening to it. My go to bands/artists when I need uplifting and faith-based inspiration is Switch, I love their songs "Symphony" and "Close", Francesca Battistelli "He knows my name", and Danny Gokey "Haven't seen it yet".
thanks for this video, as a worship leader in church that also generally follows the same rules as you (no cursing in music), it's still hard choosing "good" music to listen to, as often times it bleeds into how i sing or play my instruments i listen to a lot of anime openings because i dont understand half of the lyrics, and i couldnt tell you how many times ive played one piece or evangelion quietly on the piano during prayer time😅it really is about self control and making sure that the music doesnt cause discord between you and God
I would be careful with that too. One Google search and you will be devastated on what they were actually saying the whole time. A lot of women who were anime fans listened to the YBC opening, which glorifies r*pe.
Secular art is a subject that I have researched (I think a lot) under a biblical perspective, because it has conflicted me a lot. Not only the fact of consuming art, but creating it. And honestly, I think it is a complex subject because it is on a very thin line. Art does not belong to the devil. Nothing belongs to him and it seems to me a mistake that many Christian sectors tend to demonize modern music, secular books and movies, etc, when God is the creator of art. He himself is an artist as such. I think it all depends on the intention with which you create or consume art. There is art that I believe glorifies the Creator. At the moment I can think of some works by Dostoyevsky or some pieces by Bach. However, there is definitely music, books, etc, that we Christians should not be partakers of. It is not that we are going to hell for that, it is simply love and respect for God. I cannot rejoice in a piece or a book that praises adultery, Satanism, etc. Likewise, I believe that art has an enormous power to influence people's spirit. A song has the power to bring you closer to God or take you away from God. And I think that's a very big responsibility. Christianity is about dying to ourselves, carrying our cross and following Christ. And that implies many times to leave those things that we like so much but that do not glorify God. I hope I am not placing too heavy a burden that even I cannot carry and, truly, if I am wrong and I am being legalistic or religious, I ask God to show me the truth and correct me of my error. God bless you all.
I listen to Owl City/Adam Young who is a devoted Christian like I am too and he is the purest artist I've ever seen. His music might not necessarily be considered worship music but he does have Christian songs. His music also strengthened my faith in God over time. So I think it really depends on what kind of music you listen to.
we always want to leave room for a discussion! we're not perfect and we can definitely learn from others, so feel free to leave your refutations if you ever have any :)
i tend to avoid secular music, not because i think that i cant listen to it, but because every time that i do i fall back into my old ways, so instead i try to listen christian music because it reminds me of who i am now and not of who i used to be and it keeps me closer to God then if i was listening to secular music.
It's funny because this video popped up in my feed while I was creating a late-night drive playlist with a lot of artists who are considered "secular." Personally, I also don't like music with cursing and I find myself listening to "secular" songs but their non-explicit versions. I feel like everyone gets convicted by the Holy Spirit because of different things. I may not be convicted of listening to certain songs while someone else might. Everyone should pray and use discernment, and most importantly bring any questions they have to the Lord.
I honestly think it depends on the individual, for example I love metal music but that doesn't mean I'm going to deny God or eat baby skin or anything like that, for me it's always just music and I'm very careful to keep it that way, but if someone thinks that music has any effect on him, he should be very careful
i do my best to select the themes i listen to, i love a lot of genres but i will say one of my favorite artists is michael jackson, that stemmed even as a small kid. i learned to dance like him and i love disneyland so when i was growing up they had the 4D movie captain eo which he starred in. i still love his music and my family always tells me you should dance like him when you were little and i would love too just because it would seem fun, ive been listening to his music non stop lately it literally is the only music that makes me move and i found that he quotes a lot of scripture in his music (which was surprising but i heard he was a JW growing up) but i feel like it might become an idol and i dont want that to happen. definitely gonna pray about it. the lord has my heart and if he sends me a sign to stop i will. this video was definitely informative.
@Cornelius989 He's my favorite too. His music is clean, nothing to worry about. He even credited God every time he received an award. In the documentary with Bashir, he was asked the inspiration behind his songwriting and he claimed "From Above" referring to the Almighty!!
Honestly even as a Christian, I still play games like "METAL: Hellsinger" and other games like that, even Sniper Elite's "Zombie Army Trilogy", and that had the pentagram borderline everywhere, yet you didn't play as the evil side, you merely fought against it. For me personally, I understand that we as Christians should not listen to music that outright shuns God, and I normally try to avoid that... However, my tastes in music varies heavily, and I go from listening to something like Lamb Of God, to Five Finger Death Punch, to Mushroomhead, to Bach and Beethoven, to Linkin Park, to Electronic Dance music, to even Country... BUT that all depends on my mood. One of things I struggle with most with music for me is that most worship music I can't put my soul into and sing it like I mean it, especially when it's the exact opposite of not only what I'm used to, but also has zero consistency in tone control. Now, singing Blues like you see in some our fellow brother and sisters of darker skin pigmentation, THAT I feel like has soul, but I just don't know the songs. Go figure for me, I'm predominantly a "Metal-head" when it comes my tastes in music, and for me to listen to the exact opposite of that combined with what I've already mentioned... It makes it hard to not only WANT to sing, but also to to have any willingness to learn the song at all. However, there is ONE song I like that is a "Metal Version" of a Christian song called "Our God", and THAT I can say I like, but the rest by the same people are just... "meh" to say the least.
It's worship. It shouldn't need your preference. You should just try to open your mind up to it. Coming from a former rock head 🥲 I still love rock, but I prioritize gospel music above all else. I don't listen to gospel based on my mood, instead, I let it change my mood- from whatever I was feeling, to absolute reverence for God.❤ I hope you can find this too.
A band that has really helped me is Disturbed, yes they are heavy, but their music touches your soul so deeply, I like Christan Music, but, i Ithink all and all prayer to God is better
@@isaacee2117 Not necessarily. Worship is worship. But music doesn't necessarily = worship. Therefore, people will have taste in music. You don't hear ppl rap christian lyrics in church for worship do you? It's all preference. It's okay to have preference in music. But it shouldn't draw you away from what is holy. Meaning you shouldn't be listening to songs that draw you away from God just because you like the music.

Secular music had a bad impact on my life as it was linked to depression. The effects of music do not seem to have external effects, but it still affects the interior. In fact, I didn't realize that when I listened, because for me, music was still music. And I often used music to escape reality. But after I ended up having an encounter with God, I started paying more attention to the lyrics of the songs, and I could see that they had spiritual action. I didn't want it to be true, but every time I heard it, I realized it had demonic action. There are songs that you end up listening to and not even paying attention to, but they say things like "I am eternally condemned to hell", in addition to sexual languages, exaltation of sin, and even a great affinity with hell. My departure from secular music was because of my closer relationship with God, and I realized that this was not what he wanted for me. I started getting closer to gospel songs, and boom, now it's my favorite type of music, because they are songs that never end, and they always talk about good things like "life", "healing", "restoration" and so on. Like, gospel music has everything you need in difficult times, and also in the best moments of your life. In gospel songs you can sing, and find joy in them, whereas in many secular songs you become more depressed. There are different styles of gospel music, and I like most of them, and the more they talk about Jesus, the better the music is. You know, hearing how much God loves you, and how much hope you have in him, and having peace, breaking curses, all of this in gospel music comes from heaven. When you realize that what you see, hear or say impacts your life; you will change the way you see the world, and you will realize that Ephesians 6:12 NAA [12] For our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual forces. If you would like to know some gospel songs, you can open my profile in the part where there are my playlists, and you will see a list of more than a thousand gospel songs to listen to, I'm sure you something good there. God wants to speak to us, and see us well, and he wants to help us in these difficult moments in life. Nothing better than hearing from God what he wants to tell us. God bless you.

Yeah for me I listen carefully to the lyrics if they have a heavy amount of curse words and if they glorify any kind of din like sexual immorality murder drugs and also what message the song is pushing is it a message of just loving your lived one or yiur significant other is it a song with meaning like is it talking about emotions for me as long as they don't glorify sins and curse words or curses ALOT then I don't listen to them if they curse a little to for example explain whatever emotion the artist is trying to portray I may listen to it but depends if the message of the song is good or not I listen to eden or the eden project or other songs that are very underrated I have a Playlist on my youtube maybe yall can choose I have many songs there that are or atleats I consider them meh they talk about different stuff of course like he said it's sort of up to you and like he said if you notice the music is affecting you and making you think sinfully ir curse alot then like he said avoid them.

Thanks for replying my comment! It´s a big blessing! May the Lord bless you!! And thanks!! Agaiin... Sorry if my comment have mistakes. I´m still learning english x) Hope It´s understandable :D
I would add by saying the devil makes chant or melodies too. Sometimes we need to look at the source. Who produced the lyrics because it is impossible to separate a man from his word. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak. The point is A person with a filthy heart cannot release a clean or holy sound. They can't give what they don't have even if they try faking it. Dear, I would advice you discern by also looking at the source.
I think you can listen to any kinds of music, but just don’t let it get in the way of your relationship with God, NEVER. Like the songs that promote sin.
my view on music is it’s an issue of conscience. if you feel the Spirit’s conviction because of something you’re listening to, that means you shouldn’t be listening to it. it might be different for different Christians
That's true. My views on love songs were the most significantly altered after I've met Jesus. I now avoid those that talk about sappy, heartbroken, desperate, or obsessive love, and listen to those whose lyrics can apply to God and His love, such as Rick Astley's NGGYU.
I see it as, well when I listen to music I listen to lyrics so if it has anything sinful in the lyrics I’m gone

Ikr. I'm 16, and I always pay attention to the lyrics in a song. There was this one song that I heard, it sounded pretty nice, but the lyrics said, "I walk through the valley of death, but my gun comforts me. And I know I'll kill my enemies." A bit later it said, "I met someone who claimed to be the Saviour of the Earth, but I asked 'How can you save the Earth from itself?'"
The song sounded realllyy nice, like some beautiful country music, and I tried to convince myself that it didn't mean what I thought it did.

Love your testimony brother in Christ Jesus our Lord ❤❤❤✝️🕊
Amazing testimony! Glad you went back to God❤️
What music? Like Ghost?
@@Cindersnashes2What about Nine Inch Nails or Motionless In White as well? They're very satanic imo.
Let me guess; Ghost?
I feel like I might know the band you're talking about, but then again a ton of bands now have been professing these kind of things which are lies and tempts us to go farther away from God. I know cause I used to be a fan as well until it did my spritiual life wrong. We really are in the evil times and we have to be careful.

Do have any songs within those themes that you recommend
It was due to the negative themes and the passing of the late Chester Bennington. I couldn't feel bad about myself. Meanwhile music has led me to sin especially in my thoughts. Music has to have truth even if it's Christian or Secular otherwise we wouldn't be learning from how people live by truth. Let Christ lead you to listen to good music. Christian music can be a danger as well too depending on who you listen to. Be wise with the music you listen to!
Good thing I have a general aversion to lyrical music
Same. I used to love listening to MCR and Greenday, but after I became a Christian I realized that that type of music made me apathetic towards people and the world.
Though it was hard, I had to give it up.
Well guess I can’t play grand theft auto on my Xbox or call of duty because it promotes violence…
@@purplelemons6277 What, are we supposed to listen to heavy metal songs with negative themes thrown all over the place?
@balala4641 No but you can listen to love songs and no songs with bad words, rock love songs too ..I live in a strict Christian home but taking everything out is too much ..
Basically be conscious of what enters your mind and check if its an issue in day to day life.
Dear teacher, you're always on the ball with every video you make. Every topic is relatable! Love you and God bless you, keep up the good work!
thank you so much. that means a lot :)
Hope you have a good day and may the Lord bless you 🩵
My opinion is, if you like that song and listen to it a lot, do NOT let it negatively effect your relationship with God.
Wow! This was really smart. Ive never heard this explained so well. Thank you!

I know I'm not shutting up in other parts of this comment section. But Twenty øne piløts was like that for me.

God bless!

music can definitely be an addition, when you feel like you can't stop listening to that artist or that group, the song stays stuck in your head & won't leave like an attachment but it's unhealthy cuz it was pulling me away from God. it affected my mood & thoughts not in a good way. thankfully Jesus freed me from this & not only has this helped me in having less destructive thoughts & sin addiction, but my relationship with God has literally changed so drastically. music is such a huge part of my life using even that time to spend with Him has changed me for the better. also He's given so many great Christian alternatives to the point i don't even miss or think about those artists i used to idolize ♡ also if anyone needs recs for Christian music or ur fasting from secular music lmk i have playlists!!
I agree with you. For me, I listen to metal music. Now there will be obviously some extremes of metal music that does not glorify God but at the same time. There is beauty in metal music for example:
Stryper is a heavy metal Christian band.
For an instant, I thought you typed Slayer. Yes, I listen to older Slayer - Seasons of the Abyss era.

No music will hurt you if you know where your heart is. Hey, ho, let's go!!!
Thank you.
I'm so glad I enjoy most types of music so when I had to give up listening to certain songs and artists, I didn't miss them at all.
My Music wake up. Jesus take the wheel. Thank you father. Amen.. ❤❤❤
I honestly think it depends on the individual, for example I love metal music but that doesn't mean I'm going to deny God or eat baby skin or anything like that, for me it's always just music and I'm very careful to keep it that way, but if someone thinks that music has any effect on him, he should be very careful
REAL im ni christian but in my opinion as long as music/anything dosent effect ur belief and morals it should be fine
i do my best to select the themes i listen to, i love a lot of genres but i will say one of my favorite artists is michael jackson, that stemmed even as a small kid. i learned to dance like him and i love disneyland so when i was growing up they had the 4D movie captain eo which he starred in. i still love his music and my family always tells me you should dance like him when you were little and i would love too just because it would seem fun, ive been listening to his music non stop lately it literally is the only music that makes me move and i found that he quotes a lot of scripture in his music (which was surprising but i heard he was a JW growing up) but i feel like it might become an idol and i dont want that to happen. definitely gonna pray about it. the lord has my heart and if he sends me a sign to stop i will. this video was definitely informative.
@Cornelius989 He's my favorite too. His music is clean, nothing to worry about. He even credited God every time he received an award. In the documentary with Bashir, he was asked the inspiration behind his songwriting and he claimed "From Above" referring to the Almighty!!
He's my favorite too. His music is serene and pure, nothing evil about it. Don't worry

When you realize that what you see, hear or say impacts your life; you will change the way you see the world, and you will realize that Ephesians 6:12 NAA
