This was interesting, David! I purposely held off on watching this video til today. I wanted to complete my thoughts on it without any influence and it seems we are in agreement pretty much across the board. I'm a stickler for quiet surfaces and though these are very similar tonally, I give the edge to the AP.
Great comparison. I am getting all of the Acoustic Sounds Atlantic 75th Anniversary titles. Some I have OGs of some I don't. This is one I do not have the OG on so it is great to see a detailed comparison. I am overall pretty happy with the new series so far. I am always interested on how they measure up to the OG. Of course if the jacket is important to people then the new series can't be beat. Thanks for the comparison.
Hi David, Thanks for a great review. I have a near mint Japan 1st pressing of Bad Company. As I recall, it sounds very good. I'm a little on the fence if I want to spring for the AP 45 version. I think I'll listen to mine again and make the decision after that. I enjoy your reviews very much!
Wow they are so close. I guess they were perfect for their time back in the mid 70's. I may get this one too. Every time I watch your reviews I end up buying it.
I think the record jacket (cover) is an important aspect that needs to be mentioned as these AP 45 have high quality laminated jackets that are truly impressive....well done AP!
The quality of these 75h Anniversary reissues is generally very good from what I have seen in the VC videos. I have not personally heard them. However, I don't know anyone that is buying them and especially in Canada, a $5-$10 used VG+ or Excellent condition Bad Company album like the one your reviewing is a hard sell at over $260 CAD shipped to my door. The range of Atlantic titles is great and for example, they are releasing Les McCann and Bill Harris Swiss Movement. This is a great record I have that's and OG and is a well recorded live album the way Bill Evans was so well recorded at the Village Vanguard. Anyone that has seen the movie Casino has heard a clip of this live album, Swiss Movement. Titles like that are interesting but mainstream albums that can be bought for $10 used and are not difficult to find, ie Phil Collins, are a hard sell to most vinyl collectors I know. There's other alternatives for albums like that one. The original first issue Warner target CD made in Germany of Face Value, sounds way better X 3 than you think it could. It rivals the domestic vinyl pressing is more than good enough for me. You can find this disc prob for $20 USD-
Well said mate the 45-RPM cost has become increasingly out relevance due to costing sky-rocketing 5x the cost of Atlantic 10x the cist of ckean OG is notable it's just making no sense whatsoever to purchase Chad's vinyl... Not here in Australia cost prohibited I'm sure me not purchasing is nit hurting Chads bottom line 😂😂
How do you normalize the volume level? I know you're able to switch instantly but surely there's a volume difference between the different cuts? I have both UK and US first pressings but I've never compared SQ. Appreciate the time you put into your reviews.
I’m always suspicious of comparisons between records without wearing blindfolds The reviewer always thinks the new expensive record will sound better 99 percent of the time You’re review convinced me that there isn’t enough of a difference to justify spending money on the 45 rpm I have a original
Excellent review. I have both versions and always thought original pressing was kind of flat sounding. AP gives sound a clearer tone especially on high end. Paul’s voice really jumps out on Rock Steady.
I don't think I'm spending all that money for a pressing that edges out the original by only .05 across the board. My first pressing vinyl is pretty damn quiet especially for its age which is now 50 yrs old. Also, original pressings are the way we heard these lps for decades ,therefore they are the benchmark. Only certain lps like Iggy and The Stooges Raw Power and Sly and the Family Stone's There's a RIOT Going On truly needed an upgrade in remastering as there was hardly any decent bass on Raw Power and RIOT was a low fi source mix from cassettes Sly built his tracks from which resulted in a noticeable hiss overall. I'm sure this new pressing sounds wonderful, but lately it seems more like another cash grab that's taking advantage of the vinyl collecting market which surprisingly has reached a fever pitch in the last 10 yrs. Paying top dollar for,and finding mint original pressings are the best investments now. And Bad Co's debut lp is not all that rare and pricey. Do your homework and your math here.
I own UHQR Mofi on e steps ect .. Ap are not for the working class any more @$285.00 aud 🇦🇺 Yet $120 Usd cost to me is more than double for Audiophiles in Australia 🇦🇺 get Rapped 100%. 4 years back in same record delivered @ $185 non Audiophile version $40 please explain how Chad's 45-RPM has risen $100 usd btw is $135 aud yet the Atlantic version can be bought for $47 delivered the AP costing just simply dose not add up even with inflationary measuresi n place? Chad's vinyl is magnificent no argument here but living in Australia working man can't justify 5x the cost! David I like your videos man they're informative on point glad you're hooked up with Chad's reviews at least you get some ripper Audiophile version to play mate I will get stuck spinning the Atlantic merry Christmas guys God bless 🙌
I just got a copy of this album from Amazon it was pressed at RTI. It sounded like crap. So compressed and just flat. My wife even made the comment about the album. I sent it write back. I guess i will look for an OG
@@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion No, it was not the AP version. It was I believe the 2015 pressing from RTI. To my ears it was not what i was expected. Sounded very compressed. Is this just normal to the recording or was it that particular mixing? Anyways I appreciate your follow-up. Great video and a killer album.
Sorry but don’t need a shootout video to tell me that In no universe is this record worth an audiophile pressing for $60. Find your CD copy of it and you’re good to go.

Hi David, great job on this! Enjoyed watching as always, No one does these comparisons better.
Thanks Royce! Happy new year my friend…
Same to you David!@@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion
Thanks, David. I’m looking forward to hearing those quieter songs when my AP copy arrives.

Thanks Randy! Spending $ wisely is always a challenge when there is some much temptation!
it's a wonder that the latest 45 rpm version is so close to the original 33 rpm. Great review! thanks
Manythnx for a very thorough review 🤘

Its hard to beat the original flat out. Thank you for all your hard work on these titles.

I agree and got to take them for granted. Thanks for the reminder!

Yes it’s always about dollars and “Sense” :)

The clear Rocktober Atlantic 75 sounds fantastic. Wonder how it compares to the AP45
Me too! Didn’t acquire one… we know the AP was mastered at Sterling by Ryan K. Smith but have no idea on the credits for those 33RPM releases…
Surprised how close they rated. I’m happy with my Rhino 33rpm reissues I picked up at retail when they came out.
How do you normalize the volume level? I know you're able to switch instantly but surely there's a volume difference between the different cuts? I have both UK and US first pressings but I've never compared SQ. Appreciate the time you put into your reviews.
I have line input switches with volume pots
Cool. Do you think the AP45 should be dinged .50 for the having to flip 4 times? 😏
Convenience isn’t a criteria (yet)! But then +.5 offset for increased exercise and more body movement :)

Would have like to see how the current Bad Co. 33rpm compares.
Having a limited budget, I have to make compromises but I certainly get why that would be important to know.
Boz Burrell was the bass player--not the drummer. Robert Fripp taught him how to play.
I dont know a bad Bad Co album presing at all, they all sound good to me. Original UK and Scandinavian pressings sound amazing.

The original is just as good and 1/8th the price of an AP so it’s a no brainer to stick with a nice OG
This is the first I've seen that had it close. Interesting. I thought AP blew away my og. We all have different ears.
…and systems. Plus the pressing quality can vary.
@@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion I'd about guarantee your setup makes mine look like a hobo setup. Ha.

Just to be clear, was yours an Analogue Productions 2x45RPM pressed at RTI? There was a single LP at 33RPM on Rhino from 2015 pressed at RTI...
