THIS is the Atlantic 75 review I’ve been waiting for. I was bracing myself for this one to have a lackluster review. This will be my next purchase for sure. Thanks, Dave!
I've had it for a few weeks, excellent pressing, I've always liked this album because besides the great music, there is space around all the instruments, and this opens it up even more!
I got it also and it sounds incredible. I will have to get the other Bad Company releases. Getting all the Yes also. Glad you mentioned Inxs because I will have to get it.
The one thing about buying from whole sale record store versus direct is your copy does not get a number assigned to it even on the limited runs which I found out by doing so preordering the STP Purple if that stuff is important to you ? You have to buy direct from Analog Productions
Enjoyed the video, thanks. BtW Swangsong's 1st release was not Bad Company, but the Pretty Things "Silk Torpedo". An album you really need to investigate. 🙂
The new AP is sensational. But a big shout out to the Uk Og TML in the deadwax. The Uk is unbelievable a very close run thing . Respect to Chad in taking this on 👌
Hey Dave D. Great video. Instant new sub here. Heck the 3 story, 2 armed bandit of a turn table, was enough for me. And those speakers- Holy smokes! Thanks for the tip on these Atlantic releases. I heard about MoFi from Melinda Murphy’s channel. Amazing what you can learn from the YT community. Funny, I’ve been trying to tame a little pair of Klipsch beasts, that Santa brought me. 45’s were the 1st thing I got sounding decent. (Had to use the 5 band EQ and everything 😮. Don’t think those knobs have ever been turned)…🍻
Agree - this pressing is great. Original was always kind of flat. Rodgers voice is much clearer in AP re-issue. Love Bad Co. will purchase all of the new releases especially their best Straight Shooter! thanks for great work!
I have the Rhino reissue of this by Kevin Gray and it is very good. I wonder how they compare though I don’t think I’ll go for this release as it’s not an album I play often. I bought Selling England from the series and is phenomenal, though it is a favourite album. Beats the Classic 33 I have. Great series.
I was undecided on Bad Company but your review has pushed me to order a copy. I received Selling England by the Pound recently and the sound quality is just fantastic. I was waivering over Foxtrot because of the split in the track Supper's Ready but decided like you that it was a good cut-off point. Still undecided on Close to the Edge because of the same issue. I have bought direct from Acoustic Sounds, and the postage and 'Fedex' charges are eye watering, although I have bundled several LPs together to reduce the overall cost. Their service is fast and well packaged. I will check out The Vinyl Adventure.
Mine was delivered over a week ago but I only played it last night and with the same reaction as yourself. So I was interested to see if we aligned on this (we usually do) and of course we did. Thanks for your postage deep dive too, I’ve often “done the math” between MRCU (VA), Michael45 and AP and found it much of a muchness. Wondered if I’d got it wrong but it seems I hadn’t so good to know. Keep up the good work, had I not already bought this your review would have (quite rightly) had me running, hammer in hand, to the piggy bank. BTW for the record David does charge shipping however you don’t have the hassle of the 3rd party bill for duty as VA/MCRU handle this.
The Vinyl Adventure is £80 a pop plus £6 for tracked postage. Many retailers are charging £90 plus postage so can't complain about VA but I think I will go direct.
Thanks for the video, Dave...a hearty recommendation for this pressing it is then. BTW is that a spider's web I saw on one of your driver units?🙂 And if I dare be even more cheeky...When I saw the screen grab photo of your system, my heart skipped a beat. I thought for a brief moment, you were going to spoil us with a snippet of a vinyl rip. How about doing this sometime in 2024? Would love to hear your system...
Hi Venus_Isle, OK, I'll 'fess up. That was a spider's web; I didn't notice it until I was editing the video. I can assure you that it's not there anymore. I'm often asked about including music clips but have previously tried this. It was less than one minutes music (OK it was The Beatles) but the video was blocked. I know that some RUclipsrs manage to do this and have no idea how they get away with it, but having been bitten once, I simply can't be bothered. It's actually quite a lot of time and effort putting a video together and to have it blocked would be soul-destroying. On top of that, I only have my iPhone camera / microphone so the best you'll be hearing is dependant on my iPhone microphone etc. I really don't see the point.
Totally understand Dave, thanks for the explanation. You're pretty good with words, so I guess that will have to suffice. No complaints from this end...🙂
Hey DAVE ,,,I had no idea they were making a Bad Co. R I ,,,nice one. ..Free yes now that would be good for Analogue Productions R I also ,,, I was gonna get the Joe Wash Smoker You Drink Player You Get album 45 or the 33 but AP never came around to making it after Music Direct had it for pre order for a long time . A Production's must have too much on their plate I reckon
I've just ordered Lamb with the new option. It's about 3/4 days once AP send it (2 days from ordering). Waiting to see if I get a VAT bill as this is under £135 total.
This whole series is likely my standout to date, they’re UHQR quality just without the virgin wax, but the vinyl compound is so good anyway I’m not certain there’s much room for improvement, certainly not for the substantial increase in cost. I haven’t ordered bad company, so far just Face Value, and now have Ray Charles and Otis Reading on the way. I hear the ray charles is the standout one to date which really excites me as I thought Face Value was an absolute knockout. Incredible series. Where previously I would have put Impex on a par with AP, this series has firmly secured them in top spot. BTW, with the new shipping charges, if the combined price of shipping and product is under £135, you don’t pay any import duty, so it’s actually sometimes worth buying single items. And absolutely agree about Ryan K Smith, he’s really elevated to a new level this last 6 month period.
I only have a handful of Impex records, one of which is the Brabra Streisand LP I mention in my record cleaning series. I'd certainly not considered it an 'audiophile' issue. It sounds OK, but that about it. Having said that I'm due delivery today of the Saturday Night in San Francisco, as I have just got the Horch House tape of the same and feel I really need to compare to the Impex.... Watch this space, probably the next video... Thanks for the info about duty: 'not payable if the product is under £135'... I didn't know that.
@@DaveDenyer I’d be really keen to see what you think of the Saturday night, I have that and the Friday night 45s and they’re wonderful but your system is substantially better than mine, be interested to see how it is in your experience
Interesting and thanks. My reticence is the sheer quality of the UK Island label first pressing, I’m sure the fact that this AP pressing is at 45rpm adds something but I can barely list 10 rock records that are sonically better than a first Uk press of this. So has RKS simply not messed up the massive sound that Bad Company originally captured at Headley Grange or really incrementally improved upon it? BTW I’m not on an anti audiophile rant. I bought the Mingus Blues & Roots Atlantic 75 and agree that’s fantastic! Keep em coming Dave…good series.
Like you Dave, I’m much more of a Free fan. I don’t own any Bad Company on vinyl, but that may well change. I’m not aware of the audiophile Free albums you mentioned, though I did manage to get hold of a copy of the 2016 Free box set. Remastered from the original tapes by Greg Moore and not a bad job he has done.
I had to check, actually most of my Free are UK originals, and they sound incredible (in a ‘turned up to 11’ kind of way which I think is a hallmark of early Islands). I’ve a Japanese Fire and Water. I think that’s what I was thinking of.
@@DaveDenyer Unfortunately I don’t have any original pressings, apart from The Free Story which I don’t really rate that much for sound. Could well be a different production process compared to the studio albums?
Hi Dave! Just an FYI, there is a high pitch ringing or beeping on this video starting around 10:08. It was on part of the Selling England video too, but it ends at 11:14 on that one. It’s possible some viewers may not be hearing it because of high frequency loss, but just wanted to let you know. Might be something in the environment when you are recording. Love your content! ❤
Thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure what that is, I’m thinking either a light in the kitchen or the refrigerator… Sometimes I ‘hear’ it, sometimes I just think it’s in my head. I’m working on it.
So what do you think of this LP set Dave? 🤣 Really enjoyed your review. Coincidentally, I watched a video of Paul Rodgers talking about his latest solo LP release and also about his life threatening health issues, truly inspiring, and I didn't know he was in such bad health. FWIW, he owns a Rega P6. I also watched several old, old Utube videos of "Free" TV appearances, absolutely brilliant band Free was. I own all of their UK LP's too Dave. Keep up the good work, I always enjoy your videos!

Glad you enjoyed it Nick!
Agree @pnichols6500 : one of the stand out aspects is the huge space & ambiance around the instruments and voice. And those drums!!!
I got it also and it sounds incredible. I will have to get the other Bad Company releases. Getting all the Yes also. Glad you mentioned Inxs because I will have to get it.
INXS - Kick, is perhaps the one I look forward to most. Not that I play it that often but when I do, what an album!
The one thing about buying from whole sale record store versus direct is your copy does not get a number assigned to it even on the limited runs which I found out by doing so preordering the STP Purple if that stuff is important to you ? You have to buy direct from Analog Productions
Good point, I tend to buy direct from Acoustic Sounds on limited, numbered issues.
Enjoyed the video, thanks. BtW Swangsong's 1st release was not Bad Company, but the Pretty Things "Silk Torpedo". An album you really need to investigate. 🙂
Thanks for correcting me there Russell. Not sure where that info came from... I will look up 'Silk Torpedo'.
I thought Bad Co was 1st swan song release also!@@DaveDenyer
I ended up ordering all the Bad Company that's going to be part of this series. Can't wait. Desolation Angels will be amazing.
I'm ordering mine in batches, as the release dates are announced, but I've no doubt I'll be getting them all.
The new AP is sensational.
But a big shout out to the Uk Og TML in the deadwax.

Nice. I need to get this one. Waiting for Burnin Sky…that I have a feeling is going to sound amazing

Good luck with it. My first order with the new shopping rates is for 4 albums, so I guess I’ll be getting a Fed x bill.

Uk original Islands are very special things. I’d love more of them but first you’ve got to find them, and then being able to afford them if you do…

Thanks so much @67Pepper, thanks for the feedback.
Immense album rock and soul at ist best! Another R&S great album is Born to die from Grand Funk with another great vocalist : Mark Farner.
Thanks for the feedback. I don’t know Born to die. Will have to look it up.
Wilsonaudio kit speakers nice what do they sound like?
They’re not kit speakers. They are Kerr K100 and sound utterly incredible! www.kerracoustic.com/k100
Right they look exactly the same as the kit model, I don't know what the difference is if any I check the link thanks!@@DaveDenyer
Quick question about the kit, are you using PMC speakers or DIY speakers?
Good question. Neither, they’re Kerr Acoustic K100 MkII
So clean and glossy compared to my OG pressing!
LOL, the one thing that mildly bugs me is the high gloss cover - as soon as you look at it it gets finger prints all over it.
