Jaguar E-Type: Gwendoline

  • Kenny Lombino grew up loving cars, and owes his early interest to his father, an enthusiast in his own right. Growing up outside of New York, Kenny remembers visiting the NY Auto Show with his father each year, but 1961 proved to be a particularly special edition as it marked the first time Kenny saw a Jaguar E-Type. As an eight-year-old, he vowed to grow up and own one, and as you can see in today’s film, he kept his promise.
Following a trip across Europe that culminated in watching E-Types duking it out on the track at the Silverstone Classic, Kenny decided to have his E-Type coupe modified comprehensively, from weight reduction to powertrain to suspension and brakes. The result is an E-Type that’s perfect for spirited drives in the mountains-a car that lives up to a lifetime of ongoing hype.

This is truly a passion that no electric cars will ever get. I respect the electric cars and their purpose, but there’s nothing like an internal combustion engine roaring to life, the sound at each revs , the gears change, the sound of every mechanical parts in harmony... it’s just perfect and makes you feel good and one with your car. i’m glad to live in a world where we still have those cars around to give us that passion ! My ultimate dream car is the last exclusive manual supercar of Ferrari , the F50 and just thinking about it i hear the sound of the amazing 4.7L , 60 valves V12 revving all the way to 8500rpm 😍. This E-Type is truly amazing and i know why he feels like that for his car , he achieved his dream.

Wow wow you reminded me of myself my father rest in peace Morgan owned 1967 series one 4.2 roadster with a factory, hard top original old English white me growing up as youngster used to play in it when it was parked up in the garage. Sometimes the key was in it when I turn ignition key and pushed the button. I remember what I loved about it. What’s the triple Wipes, i’ve never seen a car with free wipers and I knew it was special. It was a racing car made for the road, the dashboard the push button start. I remember I used to rev it up at a 10-11 I knew it was a beast It wasn’t meant condition, but it was a nice road Car I really miss it I wish I never sold it. Would you believe I sold it because my mum wanted it gone out the garage it was sitting in there for years and years. Would you believe it it was a series 1 roadster so much regret I think about every day or every other two days if I had it now and the thing is the bodywork was unbelievable. It wasn’t a rotten car. It was solid as hell with the money I’ve got today I’ll have to spend £70,000 make it mint never mind it’s gone now. The only thing I have left of it is the original glass that goes over the bonnet and the crime surround and original steering wheel hanging up in the loft. I also have the original heritage certificate.
I will own another Etype one day 😂

While I do appreciate what it look like for the time it came out and the racing pedigree I just think the car is a little bit overhyped. When I was working my way thru college in the late 60's I used to pick up money tuning other college kids cars plus working two part time jobs. One of the cars I got to tune was an XKE Jag. To this day I do not know of a car that has the lines and beauty of an XKE. Even Enzo Ferrari has said that the XKE was, in his estimation, a design that will never be surpassed. I would agree and put only the Cobra on par with its' beauty. Nice to see the Weber DCOE carbs; I had a Cosworth Vega #54 with the Bendix fuel injection....a miserable set up...and I replaced it with a pair of 42 DCOE's.....until you experience the moan of Webers whacked open, you've never lived.

For me, it would have to be the 1953 Studebaker coupe (Champion/Commander). That was THE CAR that convinced the American public that tall, boxy, and laden with chrome wasn't necessarily the best way to make a car. It was the Forward Look four years before the fact and it STILL gets no respect. Studebakers in general seem to be the Rodney Dangerfield of collector cars, but come on! I do agree that the E-Type is a pretty nice design as far as cars though.

@@jakekaywell5972 I'd forgotten about the Studebakers....My uncle had a Golden Hawk back in the day and I remember as a boy, thinking that I'd never seen anything so beautiful. Also, the Avanti, later on, had a mystique all of it's own and has really never been surpassed.....copied, yes. The dentist I went to in college had a supercharged Avanti that he gave me a ride in one the interstate....that made a lasting impression on me. I used to be driven to school in a Stude Champion....they were so innovative in their design parts, large and small. I wish Studebaker would have survived as their quality was exceptional......except for the cardboard/plastic cam gear that used to eat itself. A friend of mine droppen a 501 Caddy engine into an old Studebaker pickup...if it had wings it would fly...... To be honest, my old, black Cosworth Vega was a very beautiful car....especially when you wound it up and looked down that long hood....why did I sell?

@@tomnekuda3818 Ouch! I do hope you had fond memories with that Cosworth before you decided to sell it. It is also good that all those Studebaker memories were Stude-baked into your brain! In other news,
I would LOVE to have my 1962 GT Hawk featured on here, and there is a great story behind it (my being a teenager who got it as his first car), but I'm not sure if Petrolicious would go for it.
