Great review. I am enjoying the Redwood. I had to shim out the rear rotor by two millimeters. The frame mount just did not allow enough adjustment of the caliper. Oddly, I spoke with another who also purchased a Redwood and they had to shim it out as well. Hope they fix this, or at least include a shim in the future, just in case.
Great video, I am gonna buy this bike as the price is super low. I like the changes you did. I did road biking for 12 years and stopped about two years ago I live in AZ and tons of dirt and gravel to ride in. Nver heard of tubeless tires on a bike. I will have to research in the future
Great bike. Have initial flatbar redwood. Tires and seat/dropper change all ive done. Hlaf the week, my go to for when im not sure if rain or gloom. Use it for single track, road, and gravel. Perfect for any...no. but works welk for all. Never caught off guard by late shift txt invite to trail ride..ready to go.
I just picked up last years model from Poseidon for 550 with tax. It was part of their last chance section, with an additional 100 off using the lastchance code
I just picked up a Redwood drop on their New Years sale for $749. I should have it by the end of the week!! I actually found much of the X more appealing, with the carbon fork and less aggressive tires but the Redwood seemed more stout, and offered better components in the thru axles and two piston brakes. For the hundred more seems like the Redwood was a better buy. I may opt for a thinner, less aggressive tire as I will probably use it more on road, dirt road versus trails. The Polygon Path X4 was another I considered.
Shipped a Redwood dropbar to the Caribbean to use during my vacation in Feb 2024.. The only problem, which I have never experienced before and which really bothers me is that when I tighten in and lockdown the front wheel, the wheel is not centered. I tried moving the caliper hoping to get some space to work with , even took off the caliper altogether, still when I lock down the wheel it defaults to one side. Should have stuck with the tried and true REI Co Op brand. The deal breaker for me was the $169.00 shipping whereas Poseidon shipped for free. Any input? Great video BTW
Sorry about the late response, but I have not experienced that issue. If you haven't yet, I would contact Poseidon directly about the issue with the front wheel.
Sweet bikes I got the previous year, swap that heavy steel cassette out for the half aluminum one from microshift. That helps with the tear end weight quite a bit before buying new wheels.
@@mtbct may I ask what size frame you chose on this redwood? And your height, and inseam length or pants length. I am right on the max height for a Large, and on the lower end of XL frame.
Looking at their website, all frames are covered with a lifetime warranty. Also, there is a Facebook group dedicated to Poseidon purchases. There, you can directly post and speak with a representative of the company. Other than that, normal forms of email communication are available.
Thanks for making this review. It was very helpful. As someone who rides 50% on road, would you recommend any upgrades that could make this bike better for riding on the road?
@@mtbct Thanks! I haven’t seen anyone name specifically the BB they’re using in upgrades. The Ambition X has my eye. I’m looking forward to seeing some reviews on that.
Dam , this review changed my mind about the bike , I have hunt wheels & wtb pure saddle for max comfort, flat bar version is 679 $ free shipping, my only question would be if a carbon fork would make a difference or not for rough gravel ? Was looking at the hudski but yours weighs in about the same , also what tires are you using for the hunts , great review, made a difference in possibly pulling the trigger
Thanks for the questions. I was looking into Carbon fork options but I didn't go down that rabbit hole. With the upgrades it was a fantastic bike. Make sure you change the brake housings too.
Hey, great video! I'm new to gravel biking and Im looking to upgrade my BB and crankset. Can you share a link to the Deore 6000 crank set you installed? The hollowtech one you linked is something different? Also, did you need any spacers with the new BB? Thank so much, really appreciate it.
Search for this Shimano Deore M6000-2 Crankset (Black) (2 x 10 Speed) (170mm) (38/28T). You will have to remove both chainrings and purchase a larger chainring off Amazon
Great review! I just bought the same bike. The Deore 6000 crank, was that a double and you just removed the inner chairing? Can you give me more details so I know exactly what to buy. Thx, dude.
I ended up selling the bike after the review. The bike was fantastic for gravel but I couldn't stay out of the woods! Spent a lot of my time on my other bikes instead.
@@The442ndThe added cost and labor for the upgrades. I would have either left it as it was for a great sub $1000 bike or get a bike with the next level of components for just over 11-1200 bucks. Nice bike either way.
@@TUONOv4 I understand. I got a looming college tuition bill coming towards me like a runaway freight train. Since I'm not looking to compete at an any level, just looking to get the ticker back in shape, as long as it rolls and stops when I need it to, I'm happy

I am pretty much out of the womb when it comes to bikes. Can you explain basically everything you said please?

Great deal 👌
Have you jumped this or rode really rough stuff with gear? How is it holding up still? Thanks again
I have not technically jumped this bike, I have done a few 1-2 foot drops and it was held up fine.
@@mtbct well that's more than I plan on doing thank you again for answering questions.

Yes, the Redwood is pretty versatile and it has the wheel clearance to run basically whatever you want. Road or gravel!

Oh I see you already swapped the wheels, I went with the cassette first, be looking into wheels soon though, do you have the carbon fork or not?
I do not have a carbon fork, but that maybe the next upgrade!
@@mtbct heck yeah why not, that wheelset is sweet that you got I may be looking into something like that next.

Hi, which free hub option did you choose for the hunt wheels.. they don't list a microshift option. Thanks
I used HG hub splines
Thanks for the video. I am more interested in their customer service if you do have an issue with the frame. Thanks again

Cool review! I just got a Redwood. Quick question about your new wheels: why keep the 27.5? Why not switch to 29ers?
Just wanted to keep the wheel size correct, and you can also run a wider tire due to the clearance.
Thanks for making this review. It was very helpful. As someone who rides 50% on road, would you recommend any upgrades that could make this bike better for riding on the road?
Thanks for the comment! Definitely some less aggressive tires. That's really all I can think of.
Awesome video! I have the exact bike on the way. Did the bottle cages come with the bike?
Thank you! The bottle cages did not come with the bike.
Did you change the handlebars and/or tape? I found the stock bar tape to be very thin, especially on dirt roads/gravel.
I did change the bar tape, world of difference after!
how do you feel about the XL? i am also 6'1, and concerned that i bought the L
I feel like the XL fits me pretty good at 6'1". You should be fine on a L I would think. The sizing shouldn't be that drastic between the two.
@@mtbct thanks. yeah, they're surprisingly very similar
Great review. What BB did you put in there?
Shimano
XT BB-MT800 Bottom Bracket

Great review. Good price but the upgrades blew the deal. A better equipped bike to start with would have been a better option.
Again, you don't have to upgrade the bike. As is, it is a fantastic build and price point.
"blew the deal"? The bikes under $1000.00 and capable.

Once you changed the wheelset crankset and tires you're around 1700 total cost 🤔
You don't have to change the wheelset but that's where all the weight is coming from. So the choice is yours 🤷♂️
too bad they don't sell them in Poland
