  • In this video we build and review a 2022 Poseidon X Gravel Bike from Poseidon Bikes. Instead of just another amatuer sharing thoughts, I decided to bring in a close friend and industry pro to do the build and share is thoughts on the bike. This is a fair, realistic and honest look at this bike.
More videos to come for sure on this bike.

This is the review I was looking for. I bought the bike for myself back in December and haven't had a chance to run it through its paces yet. I've upgraded a few things already (tires and saddle). Poseidon customer service is phenomenal as I had an issue with a cross threaded screw in the fork impacting the front brake caliper. Poseidon, no questions asked, at no cost to me, sent me a new fork and I had my local LBS install it and tune up the bike. It's ready to go now and I can't wait to get it dirty.

yea, if you wanted wider tires i think that is what the redwood is for. The x was designed to ride more on the road than gravel and the redwood leans more towards gravel. Either way, good inside detaios from your buddy! it helped!

Thanks for the review. Researching bikes for a bit now for my first gravel bike, and I'm feeling like this is the bike to start out on and upgrade in the future. With the tires, I've seen it has clearance for slightly wider tires, looking at WTB 40mm specifically for an upgrade that I've seen others post. I guess if I was going on rougher trails I would look towards the redwood. For my use roads and packed gravel/dirt, I think this bike looks good! Thanks for the thorough review and showing the bike in action.

The one thing I have noticed while researching this bike is basically everyone that gets one keeps it and upgrades it. That says a lot. and it seems the 2 upgrades you want to do quickly is compression less brake cables and changing the crank. Then from there your good until you fine tune it to your taste. If it wasn't currently sold out I'd be riding one now.

For $1500 it comes with grx 810, hydraulic brakes, carbon fork, dropper post, and a lifetime warranty. Luckily, I purchased my Poseidon X when they were considerably less expensive and I too was very impressed. I did my research and for the money, there was nothing I found close. I agree with your pro friend. The crank is heavy and the wheelset is a weak link. I've since addressed those with a different crank and a second wheelset and tire setup. All in all, I love mine and it's my favorite bike.

I’ve rode many many QR bikes including mountain road and cyclocross and have never had a problem. Ever.
I am a bike snob and all my bikes have been pro quality xt/xtr and boutique brands all with QR wheels. Only this year I picked a new Titanium hardtail and it has thru axle axles. To me it is no different to my other MTBs of the past in stiffness is that area. It does make a difference with a long travel front suspension, for sure but for most people thru axels are not necessary.
I would definitely change those pedals for a good quality set.
Love direct marketing bike brands their are many out there now and always are a bette4 deal.

I suppose you can't go wrong with either but I would definitely end up with a Poseidon if that were my decision to make. Slightly better spec and in my opinion the look of the Poseidon is a little bit better as well as the frame geometry. Regardless I'm sure you'll be happy either way.

My dad is a road biker but has shifted into more mountain bikes and gravel bikes over the years. The state also seems like a great bike though so I don't think you can go wrong.

I ordered one myself yesterday, your review was very helpful. I like fast twitch agile frames are difficult to find that can take 43mm tires which this frame is able to handle according to a few folks who own them. I recently moved to an area with scenic country roads with ranches or farms but the road are not in the best condition with erosion, hence the reason I like being able to ride 40mm tires, instead of being stuck with 25 mm tires or 28mm on most road frames, even some cyclocross frames are limited in sizes above 28 or 30mm. Thanks for your in depth review when compared to other reviews I seen on this bike. Really looking forward to it. 👍

About to order my second Poseidon X, I was robbed for New Years. I rode my bike from mid-December 2019 through mid-December 2021 in Chicago ( approximately 300 miles total ). I was going to upgrade the wheels but if I could have opened up the wheels and serviced the bearings with new grease then the stock wheels would have been fine for my non-pro recreational riding. I serviced the bearings in the pedals but that did not improve the spin. The shifter broke and the brake cables rusted. I replaced the shifter ( only the silver one was available on Amazon) about 5 months ago and it was a great ride. I was looking forward to riding throughout the cold Chicago winter. I have been itching to get out and ride for weeks now and thanks to insurance I will be replacing my bike. Thank You for the great review.

I thought I was going to spend at least $1200+ for a gravel bike. I kept seeing this Poseidon company popping up with these prices. I couldn't find any bad reviews on it and went for an interstellar blue X. The packaging was impressive. I threw it together and had it tuned up at the local bike shop and I have zero regrets about buying this bike. Been riding it 7 months now. The tires are a little narrower than you'd expect for a 'gravel' bike. I was getting sick of popping road tires on lousy country roads in rural TN and these offer a little more insurance against rougher road conditions. Been great on wooded trails in KY. Loose gravel is another story. I replaced the saddle, put a 44t chainring on the crank (comes with a 36t), slightly longer stem, and clipless pedals. I'm really happy with the brakes, the shifting, general handling. I'll be riding this bike for a long time.
