Miss him,the ole lift home from Asda, I never took ,coz I always thought I was putting out off his way. Aw bless him, a true gentleman and absolute genius on the guitar❤️
I discovered this video when someone shared it to the Guitarist Ireland Facebook page. I consider this to be very near to the top of the mountain as far as what is possible on the guitar.
Arty Mc'Glynn is the master of the guitar, traditional style. This is a great selection. There are not many people who can actually "play" a guitar like him. If I am wrong and there are, then they have yet to be heard.
@@jungleninja8415 brought up from 7 to 18 in the same town (Omagh) as Arty - between Omagh and Killyclogher in fact - but I'm not so pretentious as to call it "trad". I don't know any Irish people who call it "trad" - "traditional" or "folk" maybe. Some (disparagingly) call it "fiddle-dee-dee" music however.
Yes, I do wonder - would there be more footage around somewhere from these so called 'RTÉ Dublin studio in December 1980' sessions? Maybe some of these were during his recording of "McGlynn's Fancy"? People would probably pay for copies but of course sharing via youtube would ensure maximum accessibility!
Dia dhaoibh!Would anyone be award of any DUO album of guitars?1 flatpicking + 1 backing, of Irish or Celtic music.I cannot find any.Go raibh maith agaibh!;)
...and the melodion ... you can't even see him playing it. Joking aside, it's still awesome even though it's against a backing track because the chord selection is so subtle.
Was he 100% alone then? Cause I have an impression there is a drone... He played in Drop-D also. It might be the reason. Sorry he died so young. What happened? RIP Máistéir na Giotáir Cheilteach go deo! Amen.
Others have pointed out that there is a backing track. As I chase the sounds of this through master I choose to act as if there is no backing track and to attempt to recreate this sound all on one guitar
+kvelstad No, it's standard tuning. Arty may have his "E" string tuned to Dropped "D" on this piece, ( as he does on most of his recorded music ) but the 6th string is never played on these two tunes.
@@LeeMcDaidDonegal ? sounds like the drop D string is being played virtually all the time..... not sure what u are hearing (or not hearing) You know you dont have to put ur fingers on the string to play the string right? If that string wasnt being played this would have like 10 views.
Aye not sure but a fantastic handmade guitar sound...that was around the time my Dad was making some great guitars in County Tyrone... Louden was about the only other guitar maker at the time. Cheers. RIP Arty. Keep music live.
Brian Crehan Don't get me wrong, Andy is one of the masters and I wish I could play half as well as him. I just mean that it sounds suspiciously like the exact audio on his album, complete with a very nicely overdubbed rhythm guitar. My guess is the vid is a made-for-tv top-of-the-popsy-type thing. It's impressive to watch a master at work though, and great that it's captured for posterity. I just wish I could see it live!
bassplayinggoalie ach I dunno arty doesn't seem the type I don't think. And if it's about the sound being out of sync with his finger movements apparently that's to do with old recordings Being uploaded to youtube, somthing about sound delay on the old recordings but I dunno haha
ah sure those guitar players don't know how easy they have it...us piper's with the state of the reliability of our instrument no two recordings sound the same haha
He passed away this evening . He'll be sorely missed
Hi Brian,we grew up near eachother.Your cousin was a huge talent.I only shared a video of him with my nephew in Denmark last week to show his talent.
Miss him. Wile. Great man❤️

This guy was a master of his craft.
At last, here is a video of Arty, that we can hear his wonderful guitar playin', up front.
Only just discovered him! what an amazing guitarist..
Just great playing , very tight, clean and musical ...wonderful
So AMAZING ! Arty McGlynn is the Best. This is perfection.
One word BRILLIANT.👌👌👌
It was ground-breaking at the time to be able to play trad dance music on a guitar.
A legend passes this evening... Had the pleasure of his company for a few hours once... what a character also...
amazing how he keeps the bass going in background
only two and a half thousand hits?!? this peice should be a global success. i love it!!
Just brilliant.... no other words
Fantastic playing!
Be was amazing!!!
#1 on my playlist this week.

Ali farke toure is a prime example for re arranging trad on a guitar juat it's malian trad not irish
Tony McManus is also a fine flatpicker. Jon Hicks as well, John Doyle as well.
Fuckin hell his timing for phrase is insane for such complex arrangement.
Thanks Arty, RIP
The first bit of Irish folk music playing I have been really, really impressed with - and from a man who comes from my home town
No town in Ireland is you're hometown if you call trad .. "irish folk music" sorry you're American brother just own it

I'm here because Ed Boyd of Lúnasa, a fine guitarist himself, turned me on to Arty. Awesome stuff!
GREAT!!
RIP Arty

Dochreidte! Arty mcGlynn ceoltoir den scoth!
Thanks for posting. Is there more footage of Arty playing tunes? Is this available elsewhere?

True, but there's no mention of it being live in the first place.
Amazing music! I don't think Zeppelin have stolen it yet either!
I need tabs for that riff so badly x)
@Geoff Longford DADGAD?
@@casperado666 drop D I think
he plays a takamine now for all trad music
Is this open tuning!?
Drop D
I think he plays a Takamine now
Where is a decent tab for this ?
@Geoff Longford not that hard? Try it..

It might be the reason.

Looks and sounds a bit like one of Roberts guitars

Amazing live sound...no loop pedals or digital trickery needed. Just magical playing. RIP Arty.
A bummer that it's 'mimed', but still excellent to watch a master at work.
bassplayinggoalie what do you mean haha?

Yes, yes, I know it says 'RTE Studio Dublin' an' all... :) I've mimed for TV in a studio before too
