Edgar is a National treasure. Ive rarely experienced such an expression of complete musicianship from any musician. And yea this is just a blade of grass in his forest. I always feel honoured to hear something he does. No disappointments here that’s for sure. He’s speaking trad with a trad accent. Radio na Gaeltachta plays a lot of trad music at night and I have it on when I’m driving home sometimes. This takes me there.
One of my favorite musicians ever. His sound is feels at home to me.
Spot on.
Can we just talk about how gorgeous and rustic that double bass looks?!
And it's from 1796 too!
I have come a long way to this point and right from the very beginning you my fans have been solidly behind me
It’s been a landslide but we always pull through together, your love and support are amazing.
Believe in your self you can always achieve your dreams I have an upcoming project and your support and love is the drive
I love love love you all ❤️❤️❤️
^ not the real Edgar Meyer
Don’t forget the superb treatment he gives these Irish tunes.
Thats what all the great musicians do. They create their own music, tailored for them. Superb!!
One of my favorit doublebass players...clear intonation great rhytmicality...simply great music...go on👍👍👍
why am I crying? mastery at its finest...
😭
This duo of instruments sounded amazing! The bass and piano sounded so good together!!
Stunning, lovely..
Three dislikes. I think if you are going to dislike playing of this caliber you might want to leave a comment and explain yourself. Sound production. Intonation. Rhythmic drive. Concept. Edgar is a one of a kind musician.
And his tone 😍😍😍 as a double bassist myself.. his tone, not just the old bass, but his left hand touch and his dynamics with the bow are second to none.. his dynamics are incredible..
As soon as I thought to myself, hey, that camera-person is on it, they cut to Ed's bow during the double stops! His stick-work is unbeatable, but I'd love to see that left hand during the hardest part of the piece: 5:05ff. I think I know what is going on there, but I'd love a peak to confirm it. Now, if we could just pin down Froglike...
How can any person ever dislike this gift from heaven?
Love watching the pianist's face!
best that I ever heard
The absolute control; it's like if Starker were a bass player.
This piece of music is so soothing to listen to.
Would have never thought that would come from a bass. Sounds beautiful
Seriously - his talent is beyond the grasp of mortals
What a beautiful sound
such amazing and effortless intonation!
Tom Burns perfect balance!
Yeas of effort to find it and keep it (tone)
absolutely brilliant performance :)
Wonderful music, sensitively and beautifully played.
Outstanding!
Bravo! Just wonderful
the best ever
Thank you for sharing
Wild!
I have been a fan of Edgar Meyer since Strength in Numbers days. This is just a morsel of what he produces, pleasurable though.
Woaow!
1:02-1:22 sounds so beautiful!
This was a beauty! The intro tune is from his "Short Trip Home" album, but that segment is not on the album. Very different instrument arrangement too.
In the Nick of Time is the name of the tune. Bass, violin, guitar, mandolin with Edgar, Joshua Bell, Mike Marshall, and Sam Bush.
@@mandoluva Thanks! :D
One note and you know it's him
Is there anything Edgar Meyer can’t play!!
Is that the 1769 Gabrielli?
One of my favorite musicians of all time. Imagine and Jacob Collier together!!
I thought he was going to play GAME OF THRONES theme.. Hahaha
Why no vibrato? The style doesn’t use it?
it has to do with the style. it's kinda a mix with classical and irish
If your intonation is spot on you don’t need vibrato...
Irish trad only vibratos on an air, if at all.
@@jan-paulvanderhoeven1639 well no that’s not true. One of vibrato’s purposes is to provide a wide variety of different tones and sounds. In this case, no vibrato just fits the style well.
Edgar Meyer is known to use vibrato very sparingly. Check out Your Coffee is a Disaster for him using vibrato to great effect 🤗
How tall is he?! I've never seen a bass pin extended so long. I can't tell if he's small and has to play a half size on a large endpin, or if he's so large that he infantilizes a 3-quarters size
Edgar's bass is more like a 5/8th size instrument
It’s a 3/4 bass with a very small body.
