I've known Xavior Foley since he was 14 and have seen him grow into the "Bass God" that he is now. I really believe he will be studied for generations to come in the future. He puts the bass on the map and makes you pay attention!
@@dogbiscuit1171 It is called a C extension. On a standard string bass the lowest note is E. This extension lowers the range to a C below that, putting them a full octave below the cello.

I will watch this specific RUclips ever so often and even get teary because I can hear and see how these instruments have a very lively communication going between the three of them ( don't miss the pianists!). Bravo! Bravo!! Mooi!! Wunderbaar!!
The three musicians are all amazing. The way Mr Hadelich bends his knees....you know something amazing is gonna happen on the violin part. I love the bassist, so expressive and amazing in playing BRAVO!
@@JD-hh9io I think the more educated commentator meant the full piece, this is just the finale, there are about 10 more minutes of delightful music to this Gran Duo and would be very nice to hear them do it.
I hate seeing people get impressed when they learn that the bass can use the upper half of their fingerboard but I also love it because it’s educational
@@gordonwu6828 well as a violinist i wouldnt expect it since it seems less practical since you have to reach your arm so farm down to reach those notes. it seems llike it would be really hard and abnormal to do constantly
@@nitelite4340 same ? I play both violin and cello , I just don’t get it ? Just because it’s abnormal and hard to do it , doesn’t mean the bass can’t get that high
I'm so obsessed with this piece and listened/watched so many different interpretations recently. Really love these two. Would love to hear the entire performance.
i had no idea a bass could do that. he is really good musician! accompanists never get enough credit. she is just there supporting the tones of the music and doing it so well! oh jeez, they are so perfect together ~ tone for tone. 🎻🌷
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that is absolutely blown away by the way the bass is played I must say, the ensemble is just beautifully aligned to compliment each other I saw another comment but I can't find it now, but I too, can now be mistaken for smoking while walking my dog while listening to this
The is the second video of Maestro Foley's that I have watched and I just watching him play! What a great virtuoso, and what clear pleasure he takes in performance. Bravo to this whole ensemble!
I have watched many versions of this Bottesini concert in YT. But this is the BEST AMONG ALL!. Because the way Mr.Xavier plays the bass is SIMPLY PHENOMENAL!!! The clarity of notes and the way bass is 'singing' is somewhat missing in other versions. Hatsoff and Bravo
This is just delightful beyond belief. Musicianship of the very highest caliber. The best part is the attitude brought to the music-making and to the connection between human beings that is possible when it's done right. Joy!!
Wow! This is piece is so much fun to listen to! I saw Augustin Hadelich's name and knew I had to listen. But, truly, amazing musicians, all of them! Phenomenal! Incredible ensemble!
It started to play automatically and I was like - what is this funny instrument besides violin. I was ready to see anything but double bass. What a legend this Xavier Foley!
No I’m not stunned, because it’s really really awesome and Augustin and Xavier are amazing and stunning too. I really really love ❤️ this, because there’s so much enjoyment between these artist’s, and it comes across in their playing too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags

This was an immense joy to watch and listen to. The bass is such an undervalued instrument. What the three of you did here was a perfect masterpiece of precision and communication. Thank you very, very much!
Anyone else who is ABSOLUTELY STUNNED by how good this is?
Yeah, my face is literally a puddle on the floor, this is so wild
Yes, absolutely 😲🤗
What a double bass player !!!
I had no idea a double bass could be played like that!
I certainly am.
Right here ✌🏻
I've never heard a bass played so lightly. What magic is this?

Ooof, they should record this. This is one of the tightest performances of this piece I've ever heard. That bass player is amazing! (Xavier Foley)

Isn't the bass a 6th below the violin?
Um ye exactly, the violin was like way higher than the double bass for like the whole video
Look at their faces right then - it opens my heart to see how they enjoy playing together!

The literal gods of juicy harmonics and saucy chamber music, how did this happen 🔥🔥😭😭
The music is perfection. The interactions between the two soloists with their own instruments and with each other is as good as a ballet.
