Ironically, on the very first Cherish The Ladies album, _Irish Women Musicians in America_ (1980?), there’s actually a solo fiddle track with these first two reels, “Lads of Laois”/“The First Month of Summer”. Not sure if it’s played by a young Eileen Ivers or who the fiddler is…
It's Rose Conway apparently - but I wonder if Arty learnt the set from his wife (and long term Cherish the Ladies member) Nollaig Casey? Although actually she wasn't in the band by 1990, rather blowing my theory out of the water!
Cathal Hayden never ceases to amaze me. What an amazing player he is. This is masterful. Honourable mention to Arty McGlynn too, RIP.
I love cathal that’s some serious bowing right there such a modest player, no improving that kinda player. 1koolkat
Wow!
Breathtaking!
The best of best. 🙏🏼
Fantastic set!
The 2nd tune is; 'The First Month Of Summer' ....I think
Correct. The first one is The Lads Of Laois and I know the third is a Charlie Lennon composition that Cathal recorded as Charlie Lennon's No 2.
