I met Arty a couple of times in Galway. I was playing in a session in the Crane. Jackie Daly was there. Later in walked Arty. He was just in to listen to the tunes and few pints. He didn't have his guitar with him. Arty was my trad guitar hero, I'd learned a few off tunes off McGlynn's Fancy. Later that night I played them badly for him and then gave him my guitar. He played a few tunes and showed me his triplet method. It was such a privilege to watch his hands close up (long before the days of RUclips) and get a master class. One of the nicest people I ever met.

I was drawn to Irish music as a guitarist and wannabe fiddler for jigs...!! What a discovery...esp minor key jigs...and, not too fast...!! Cheers all from Texas!!

amazing sound of these 2 Yamahas. I just bought the same model (a 1974 make). They were equally good to Martins in the mid 70s! Never forget the musicians party in Connamara where I had the pleasure to meet Arty in the late 90s!

Agree that Brady's guitar is overwhelming the sound. Not his fault, he's a very loud powerful player and they should have turned his mic down. Having said that I can still hear how amazing Arty's guitar is. What a feel.

when you're playing traditional acoustic folk then balancing the volume in the sound board doesn't make much sense, this is how guitarists playing melodies typically sound at sessions

Both play Yamaha fg180's,stunning sound from a cheap laminate guitar made in Japan in the late 60's.I bought one after seeing this, and it sounds superb, shame I can't play it like these guys!

OK for Artie Mc Glynn , but I don't think Brady's guitar is a Yamaha. The shape of the protection plate is very different from the Yamaha brand.

This is a moment of musical genius - just think, one day, music like this may fade away as these people grow old and pass. I just pray there are enough young ones coming along behind to pick up the torch and carry it forward.

When I hear the wonderful sound of the FG 180 it really brings me back. I had one 40 years ago but it was stolen from the boot of a friend's car. It had only cost me £10 second hand but I believe you would have to pay €1,000 for one now if you could find one.
