Stop Singing from Your THROAT! Vocal Coach DEBUNKS 5 Singing Myths

  • There are TONS of singing myths out there.
I like to say that for every vocal coach, there’s a different vocal technique.
That’s because everyone learns to sing differently. And while there are some actual scientific things we can study about the voice, learning to sing has a lot more to do with the relationship between the singer and the teacher.
Now that you're taking singing lessons with me, I want to help debunk some of the most popular and harmful singing myths out there.
Myth #1: You sing from the diaphragm
Myth #2: You can't learn to sing if you're over 18
Myth #3: Belting is just yelling on pitch
Myth #4: Falsetto is bad for your voice
Myth #5: Singing is a talent you're born with or you're not

It always annoys when people say, that person is talented, or, I am bad at guitar.
Most people are good at something because they work at it.
Hendrix didn't pick up a guitar and spit out little wing first try.
    Thanks for the video.

My comment being about me not being able to really sing in falsetto. I still find it hard to do so as when I try to lighten up my head voice it seems to shut off completely my vocal cords so I cannot sing. If that makes any sense

@@mradaChris just release the tension and don’t deliberately try to do falsetto, it’s actually really simple

@@adsonxo I guess my issue is that I really don't like the sound of falsetto

@@mradaChris not liking falsetto has actually nothing to do with not being able to perform falsetto, you see hypothetically speaking if a pop singer does not like country, it doesn’t mean he cannot sing it….he just doesn’t want to sing…I suggest if u don’t like falsetto then there is nothing wrong but falsetto is an integral part of singing and you can damage your voice without falsetto/head voice….if you could perform falsetto and control it and then you would be saying you don’t like falsetto is a diff thing….but yeah..take my opinions as a grain of salt cus am no expert :)

@@adsonxo first off falsetto and head voice are not the same. I sing in head voice all the time. My issues that I cannot disconnect it enough to make it sound like falsetto. And also I've heard people sing falsetto in their lower tones as well

My issue is I breathe through my nose when I sing, because it’s the only way I can match tones with higher keys, and I’m an alto. So it’s hard to match the music I listen to bc most of the songs are in higher keys. Ik that sounds weird as hell, but I push the hair out of my nose constantly and don’t know how to speak or especially sing with my mouth air or however you’d word it.

It not so easy to tell. Its not all about range what matters more is tone of voice. It sounds like your either a baritone or something else but I'm not too sure.

If you are completely untrained I would say you are a Baritone. Without knowing more, and more training, your lower register is most often considered your baseline. Granted your overall range and comfort range sit one note above a generic baritone, you're most likely A Lyric Baritone or a "Baritenor" which tend to sit somewhere in between.
