It felt like we were actively lied to about Ruby too, Maestro saying that theres a "secret song" in her and calling ruby a creature which then ultimately lead to her mum being regular? And the snow appearing is never explained, its just weird
I think the problem Russell has when he writes finales is his two partners always have a great strong first part and then the second part most of the time is a let down on how they resolve the threats because it was obvious it was gonna be what I like to call a Russell Ex Machina that stopped it all. I wish we got more of that moment of sutekh torturing the doctor as a harken back to pyramids of mars.
The reaction the 100s of cinema goers at my screening had at the end would shock The BBC, Bad Wolf & RTD to their core. Utter silence as we left & only negative reactions & expletives at the explanation for Ruby & the snow ❄️ The Atmosphere on leaving was that of a wake compared to the excitement at the interval. I'm still trying to comprehend that explanation for Ruby & the lack of explanation for the snow, a 15 year old girl wearing a hooded cloak & pointing at a street sign in front of no one in the vicinity in 2004 to name her child 🤯 Im still in shock and it's 3am
Wonder how many of you guys kept banging on the writing not being bad and then realising at this point lol. Anyway great reaction you are the one reactor who isnt stuck in praising this show just because its this show. This season has been absolutely terrible
You’re commentary is so brutal at times, its BRILLIANT 😂😂 one thing that really annoys me about modern who is they never have the balls to actually kill someone off. So many big dramatic ‘death’ moments that just get reversed.
That's why all the Moffat Stans piss me off sm. They all have brilliant and meaningful death scenes that get completely undone and rendered meaningless. It's SO frustrating.
@@HamzaReactz i would rather watch classic who in general anyways. Still loved the new who reactions tho. Cant wait to see you continue with the 2nd doctor's era
@@thetimeshadow6769 Russell does the exact samething. It annoys me when Moffat haters act like he is the only one who undoes every death. When he isn't at all
@@HamzaReactz me too, after this episode i literally lost any interest in trying to make all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, i think not even RTD knows the answers we seek, he just makes up as he goes along
I don't understand why RTD would hype up Sutekh as this massove threat and bring him back after all this time just to get rid of him in one episode. There was no pay off to me for anything. Felt like a lot of noise and high stakes but it was all for nothing (which tbh is classic RTD)
So I basically had the exact same reaction to you! I saw this in the cinema (regretting that £6 Tango Ice Blast now...!) and there was basically no audience reaction apart from that "don't make the tea" joke! It's such a shame, feels like such an anticlimax for the series as a whole. I also found it hilarious that this series was advertised as a great jumping on point, but the finale had so many references and even literal clips of The Pyramids of Mars! Here's hoping series 2 and the whole Mrs Flood mystery has more to offer!
Oh, and 100% agree with the stakes situation - as soon as I saw Kate, Mrs Flood and basically every character turn to dust, I knew there was no way this wasn't all going to be reset by the end, so there was absolutely no stakes and tension for me throughout the whole thing!
It was just anticlimactic. It lacked punch. The past 4 RTD finale’s have been amazing and they really make you feel something whether that be fear, danger, sadness, loss, joy. They really made you feel something. This was just lacking that extra bit of oomph to make it work.
I have no idea what the purpose of that woman was either. I thought maybe they were hinting she was Ruby's Mother and that the baby was Ruby...? Nope. Make the Doctor travel to a random planet, conveniently find a random woman who happens to have a spoon, take it, and she vanishes 😂
Well, that was super anticlimactic. It was ok... but Sutekh was wasted. Every time the Doctor showed emotion in the episode, I felt nothing. When you make the Doctor cry in every single episode except the one they're not in, it just becomes empty and meaningless. I can't take it seriously at all.
The way I look at it. This Doctor is so much different to the last ones. He more open about his feelings. That why he showing emotion all the time but he has show his serious side a bit. I do hope RTD step it up a bit in the next series by showing his serious side alot in series 15.
@@rtaylor7384I get where you're coming from, but because of how often he's crumbling with those emotions, all the serious moments later on get severely watered down and have less impact. It defeats the point of his Doctor. He's supposed to be the one who 'finished rehab' and is free of the emotional baggage that 14 had when he retired.
@@darkwolf7740 I agree. I love having a new personality, even really like this one. But when you have a character have the same emotion every time... it takes away thay impact. You need variety, balance. You can't have people constantly die in tragedies, or heroes constantly win yknow?
You miss the whole point of his character - emotional people are emotional a lot of the time. That is who the doctor is this time. Can't please all the people all the time.
I mean when it comes to answering "but what would make Doctor Who popular again?" Look at Pertwee's first season. Look at how popular Stranger things became. Maybe we need to pull back on colour and camp. Give a more grounded and surrealist doctor who series. And if well told, you'll probably have more non who fans be like "man, did you see Doctor Who? That was so creepy and cool" and it will grow out in a Stranger Things like fashon. I don't think it's a very hard equation to crack.
@@HamzaReactz right? It's why I get annoyed when people say "Doctor Who has run out of steam" or "cancel Doctor Who already". I'm like why? How to do it well is there. Reminds me of how people thought Batman was silly after Batman and Robin, but then low and behold Batman Begins and Dark Knight came out. I think how to do successful Doctor Who is very obvious. Russell has done this in 2005. Maybe pressure is what is needed at the minute. That 2005 series had loads of pressure when making it.
I completely agree with you this was absolute crap, for me this felt like the whole story was all about Ruby and her mother i did not care for that i'm so sick and tired with companions and their family dramas i just want to see the Doctor and his assistant travel in time and space fighting monsters with lots of death and none of this get out of jail free card which happens alot with this era Chibnall was the only showrunner that kept characters consistently dead i'm sorry but it's getting to that point where i think bringing back RTD was a mistake he's becoming a hack also what was the point of Sutekh? My favourite villain ruined I knew they would muck with that character.
I've been saying the same thing. People can hate Chibnall but he was consistent, his seasons weren’t centered around "special" companions. He introduced regular people and except for a bit of growth and courage, they came out of the Tardis, exactly as they came in, with most of their problems and issues still there, lurking in the background. That was important to me, because the Doctor can't fix your problems like that. And finally, when Chibnall brought a character or especially, a monster back, he knew how to use them in a satisfying way, even injecting some much more needed fear back into those monsters. People can say whatever they want about him, but he might be actually my favorite show runner of the three.
So she can make it snow but she’s just an ordinary woman? Maestro said there was something wrong with Ruby so that didn’t add up. Is her father something not of this earth? How does Mrs Flood know the Doctor, even if she made it snow she was dust wheat snow in the future… I think the writers edited parts out that give explanation
After all that trouble and suspense, she's just a normal person, no, that's disappointing I thought it was gonna be the trickster and he was going to use ruby to dethrone sutekh, like the gift of life versus the god of death, but no she had the power of memories or something like that that's why she couldn't be seen, total bull but I did enjoy the beginning like you my friend, I was overall disappointed with this ending Also why was a god of death taken for walkies through the time vortex 😂😂😂
It says something when the most entertaining parts of a story are all the pieces of Classic footage. I'm very glad I decided not to stay up and watch this episide as soon as it was released.
I absolutely loved this episode. I personally don’t feel like much was all that confusing but of course what everyone wants / enjoys seeing is different
Ya, I think his birthday was few days ago. I remember he mentioned his birthday during the first episode (I think) and It's kinda close to the finale episode. Edit: Oh I remember now, he has the same birthday with Millie Gibson (Ruby) which is 19 June 2004
This was the one episode I stayed up to watch because I was so excited. tbh I have some of the same thoughts as you on this episode, there were some good bits but in terms of the overall story it was just really uninteresting. It’s evident that Doctor Who can do well bringing back old characters (such as with The Toymaker) but I really think they need to look to the future, maybe even doing an entire series where everything is new, or more experimenting with unique concepts. imo when they did that this season (Boom, 73 Yards, Dot and Bubble) it really worked quite well. Higher rated episodes of this show seem to always contain new concepts (blink, silence in the library, heaven sent, family of blood etc.) although it’s important to remember those episodes would’ve been among other episodes where it was just daleks and cybermen returning - people like to see new things. I also think pitting the doctor against godlike beings in such a short space of time (The Toymaker, Maestro and Sutekh) kinda exhausts the show’s potential. The threat of the Toymaker was very clear in The Giggle, because we hadn’t had an episode like that in ages. Sutekh genuinely didn’t seem like a threat, even tho he’s supposedly like the most powerful one in the pantheon of discord. Each time the doctor faced off with one of these gods it just got less interesting or fun to watch. Anyways, pretty long comment so idk if anyone’ll read it, but just thought I’d get my thoughts out about the episode here. In short, it was underwhelming.
I have found in the past that the final episode - which is usually the second part of a two-parter- is underwhelming in comparison to the build up in the first part(s). The first part has all the intrigue and the build up, and positioning characters in certain places (literally and figuratively) and the end is just 'Big Battle / Defeating TheThreat'. I agree with the bits you enjoyed, and the Defeat the Monster Act was.....inevitable. I like the fact that Ruby's Mum turned out to be just an ordinary girl with an odrdinary story. I'm assuming that Mrs Flood won't be explained at Christmas, but will be an ongoing arc in Season 2.
Honestly, S11E10 might have actually been better than this. Performances are great but it's always been the story, for me and it just wasn’t there. Which seems to be the curse of RTD: it's either really great or really bad, there's no in-between. I get the messaging with the mother but then why center the entire season around it then? Just feels like a wasted opportunity.
Right about now, I miss the Chibs😂 I predicted this would happen. Now people are going to start cursing Russell again, like they were doing towards the end of his first run.
I have a feeling that this episode, on rewatch in a couple of years, will have a better reception. I think it’s one part in a greater arc coming over the seasons.
thought the visuals for sutekh's destruction was awsome but made no sense lol glad you also liked the ending with ruby and her mum but just felt like it fell flat look I adore sutekh my fav classic who villian but in this I also just found myself not caring really, oh btw cuz of the mrs flood costume I recon she might be romana If u look at the costume romana wore in the ribos operation it's a tom baker story as both costumes are like exact but ye not the best finnally ever the set up was awsome but the ending was I'd say mid cuz the visuals were at least cool.
man, i`m disapointed too, i expected much more after first epic part. i am disapointed about almost everything in this episode, how easy they solved the end of universe, also the fact that ruby`s mom is absolutely no one after all this, and i dont think the "i love you" from end was necessary, i really dont wanted love drama for this season. also, whats with mister flood, is she the santa claus wife or something ?
@@HamzaReactz but let be fair. In Moffats era most mysteries were set up in his very first episode with Matt Smith but they didn’t get answered until Matt left so this is like that.
@@HamzaReactz i´m so done with this show bro, i don´t even care if they keep screwing the canon or retconning stuff that i love about the lore, my personal canon stops at the Giggle, and it sure doesn´t include 13´s era either
Yeah RTD just hasn’t got it anymore. Safe to say with all the controversies he’s had in the last few months and now this mediocre writing this season, I’m done to be honest. Just don’t care enough about the show anymore. I haven’t been wowed since Twice Upon a Time. It’s such a shame, I feel Ncuti has been wasted and the writing has surprisingly let him down.
So just my thoughts. Long post. I LOVED the first half Mel being a badass, unit going down. The scene with Mrs Flood Anita nailed it I honestly wouldn’t mind if she was the next missy. The scene with the spoon and the woman was brilliant her actress nailed it too. That being said. The second half really felt hollow. Sutekh shouldn’t have been on the tardis since pyramids of mars. He should’ve been on the tardis when it absorbed the flux. He could’ve been cast outside the universe when 4 defeated him. When division engineered the flux as a force of death in their base outside the universe he would’ve been able to ride it back in like the toy maker could because of the salt being cast where the walls were thin. The doctor threw his tardis in front as soon as it was released remember. That would have made it much more personal for 15 as it was HIS specific adventures that gave sutekh power and why twist only just started appearing. When 15 split the tardis in the giggle that really let him into her and allowed him to start his plan. His defeat could also have fixed the death caused by the flux too as he was linked. Rubys mum and the hooded figure should have been revealed to be two different people. A 15 year old in 2004 dressed in a Charles Dickens cloak pointing at a sign ? Still doesn’t explain her snow powers and why her memories are stronger than anyone else’s or maestros comments. The hooded figure could’ve been another osiran left on earth as a fail safe if sutekh returned. That’s why sutekh couldn’t read her or identify her. Ruby was actually left at a hospital or the hooded figure took her to do whatever it did and put her back and trying to be kind it chose what it thought was s random unwanted baby to use in the fight. When the doctor went back in time in the Xmas special to the church it sensed sutekh and sutekh sensed it which led to ruby being left at the church in the first place, a paradox. The eye of Horus that kept sutekh prisoner in the pyramids of mars was a ruby, ruby has the powers of a new eye hence her name and her strange abilities, she’s still a normal human and once sutekh is defeated she’s totally normal. She could’ve still had the scene with her mum AND a payoff to the mystery. I could go on overall the parts were there but it was a bit anticlimactic. Rant over lol
I thought the 14th doctor had therapy so the 15th doctor could open up more so why couldn't he say he loved Ruby back. IMO the closest the doctor has ever said I love you is the 12th doctor. "Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference " yet twelve is perceived to be the most emotionally distant of the new who doctors. That's all forgotten about because it's easier just to write the character as nice, cuddly doctor rather than show actual character progression.
Very touching scene with Ruby and her mother, i cried. The episode has some great moments, but this is the weakest RTD finale in my opinion. I know that's my fault that i had high expectations after previous episode, but still... Also i tired a bit of another "destruction of the universe", again... I want just more adventures 😭 6/10
I was expecting some kind of big reveal, but Ruby's mother is just a nobody just so RTD can plug in a message about young teens getting pregnant or something. Fell as flat as a can of coke left on the side all day lol
I hated the ending it wasnt Dr. Who at all it was more like Coronation Street they build all this hype no no it turned out Ruby was just abandoned by a normal person how boring and uncreative is that RTD is better than this i think he is deliberately trying to piss classic fans off..
RTD = Rotten Twists Dissolve So if your Gran dies killing her death brings her back (if you drag her through the vortex). I know season 2 has been done but RTD is a shit writer and couldn't write THE CAT SAT ON THE MAT
Yeeeeeeah - I wish I'd gotten an early night, too. It looked nice. And Ncuti and Millie are great as per. And I enjoyed the coffee shop scene (even though it was a disappointing reveal of who Ruby's mother was, considering all the build-up). That's about it for the positives. Everything else was pretty dire. Did anyone else get S5 and S7 vibes at times during this finale? Like RTD was trying to have a go at doing his own cracks in the skin of the universe and Impossible Girl type story, just executed worse in every conceivable way?
So Ruby could have a quick chat with her mother and return to the TARDIS. But the sudden appearance of her father meant she couldn't? Lazy writing RTD.
I think I disagree here. Ruby was saying that she was going to have a quick chat with her mum, and then take off again in the TARDIS, but The Doctor knew it was never going to be that easy - you could see him going "Yeah, right...." But the finding of her Dad made her realise that this was a seismic time in her 'normal' life, and she needed to focus on that for now. She can't have it all right now. Like a lot of RTD's 'people stuff' writing, he showed the reality of the situation. She wanted to keep travelling, and wanted for it to be possible to do both, but ultimately realised she couldn't. Real people behave exactly like that - often.
Yeah - you literally have a Time Machine, you can be back in time to see your family whenever - such a lame excuse for a companion ‘exit’ (I mean we know she’s back in S2) - and anyway 9 episodes with a companion is too soon to try and have them leave and expect us to care. Fair play to Ncuti, Millie (and Murray G) for quiality performances in that scene
Most lame, anticlimactic ending I have ever seen in my entire life. How did Sutekh go from blowing the universe to death with a bit of dust to getting beaten with a rope around his neck?? I didn’t like how they resolved Ruby’s mother either, I feel like it has to be a little more interesting than just “she was just a 15 year old who’s still chilling living a normal life” after all that build up. She should’ve been extremely easy to find in that case.
You know it's bad when Hamza doesn't end the video with "Can't wait to watch the next season of Doctor Who." The Legend of Ruby Sunday was a fantastic episode & it did it's job of being a cliffhanger well. Too bad it handed it over to Empire of Death. As a finale, it didn't do a good job. Now the episode isn't bad from start to end, there are some good parts imo such as starting the episode immediately where we left off, which you mentioned (Might be wrong, but I feel like that's something Moffat would never do), the panic the world is in which I have praised RTD multiple times in your past videos, the scene with the Doctor in space where he blames himself (Totally agree that the shot with the TARDIS open is beautiful), Colonel Ibrahim's joke and... no that's pretty much it. And with that out of the way, I'll just go through the episode based on the order its shown. Some are criticisms, some are things I would have rather preferred, others are maybe just jokes.
1:33 I'm not gonna lie, I kinda thought the green in the TARDIS was a green screen for a sec 1:41 No no, Hamza. You must remember (though maybe I'm misremembering). The Doctor will always go, "This is the greatest villain I've ever faced. There's no way I can stop it." Then at the end of the episode bada bing bada boom, super easy, barely an inconvenience, the Doctor defeats the villain in the most "wtf that's it?" way possible. 1:55 It's funny when you rethink back to past Doctor Who episodes realising Sutekh was there (E.g. Utopia when Captain Jack was clinging on to the TARDIS, Flatline when the TARDIS shrank, every crossover with other Doctors after Pyramid of Mars that showed the TARDIS (Shoutout to Sutekh for helping the Doctor stop the Time War in The Day of the Doctor), etc.) "And I find that good." That line reminded me a lot of Saxon Master in Sound of the Drums when he said, "And so it came to pass that the human race fell, and the Earth was no more. And I looked down upon my new dominion as Master of all, and I thought it good." "And I swear to you, with both the hearts of the last of the Time Lords, I will stop you!" Ruby: "Why's he saying that when there's a chance his granddaughter is alive?" Mel: "No idea. Probably just being a drama queen. Not to mention he also knows his best frenemy the Master is still alive, though now a gold tooth." Ruby: "The who is a what now?" "I'll tell you a secret, Sutes. This feeling.... that you have now... this doubt.... have you ever felt so alive?" And after having this new feeling, Sutekh realises the beauty of life & becomes a good dog. The end. Yeah we never really see this being explored again. Well, the Doctor did end up being wrong on why Sutekh hasn't killed them yet. 2:32 Oh my gosh! It's the TARDIS from Tales of the TARDIS! Quick! Everyone go rewatch the episode 15th & Ruby are in to play "Where's Mel?" "Ruby Roo! Ruby Roo!" Scooby dooby doo! 2:48 "I learned math in school. Why do you sound so surprise?" 3:02 What do you think she did Ruby? What do you think the angel of *DEATH*, a minion of Sutekh who is the god of *DEATH* who kept saying lines like "I bring Sutekh's gift of *DEATH*" do? Huh? What do you think she did Ruby?
3:24 Even though I love this scene, I do wish instead of focusing on the Doctor, they showed scenes of people dying. Some are running for their lives, some are cowering in fear with their loved ones, some are praying, some are rejoicing, some have accepted their fate. Heck, imagine if it's characters we know & love, seeing them turn into sand. We did see that with UNIT & Ruby's family, but I'm talking about characters from past episodes, characters from other planets like those the Doctor listed. The Cybermen, the Sisterhood of Karn, the Oods, the Daleks, any civilisation, unable to escape Sutekh's gift of death. 3:47 I love scenes where the Doctor is screaming in pain & sadness like how 14th was screaming, punching, & kicking in Wild Blue Yonder, because it shows a more vulnerable & relatable side to the Doctor but something about it felt off. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Doctor shouldn't be screaming. I'm saying that I felt like it could have been done better. I'm not sure exactly why I feel this way, but currently upon rewatching the scene, I think my issue is with how his first scream ended, felt weird, though the 2nd scream was a lot better. Might also be him taking a step back to scream again. Would have preferred if during his first scream, he drops to his squatting stance used in the 2nd scream in a way that feels as if he lost all energy to his legs. He pauses for a while and the camera zooms in on 15th doing what he does best, crying but not bawling out, & then he lets out his 2nd scream which can still be heard after the screen fades to black. The clip duration would have to be made shorter to match the duration of Ncuti's scream, I don't think having Ncuti's scream match the clip duration would be better. Basically, the focus is on Ncuti's scream rather than the scenery. The difference between this & how it's actually done is that the way it was done felt like the Doctor stood up, took a step back to regain his voice so he can scream again. What I'm trying to go for, which I believe is what RTD wanted to as well, is the pause is for the Doctor to process everything, internally blaming himself, and trying to contain the anger, pain, & sorrow he's feeling but being unable to & so lets it all out in his 2nd scream, even if he doesn't have the voice to because what he's feeling surpasses what his voice is capable of.
The scene with the Doctor & the mother, didn't hate it but nothing special about it to me. I did feel a bit weirded out seeing another person alive. Kinda thought apart from the Doctor, Ruby, Mel, Ruby's birth mother, Sutekh & his minions, the entire Universe is desolate. Especially since Sutekh literally says, "The universe stands silent, in death. Yet one thing persists. One thing keeps living, despite me." Apparently, Sutekh is wrong & there are multiple survivors out there. 4:15 Personally, I would have just said "I'm sorry." Saying "I think she did." To a mother realising her daughter is dead is kinda like going, "Yep. Your daughter's dead all right." Like, it's one of those things where you don't have to explicitly confirm. "They say it travels, the death wave, down the family line. Except that this man, he said it's... it's... it's perverse, that's what he said, that it's so determined to kill that it can travel backwards... from child to mother." Apparently, Sutekh's gift of death is now hereditary? You don't really have to get caught in the duststorm, you just turn into dust any moment? Damn... Wonder if we'll ever see it again? Nope. Also, why does this whole scene feel like a side quest? You know those kinds of quest where you listen to some NPC & they go, "Thank you for listening to me, now I can finally pass on in peace."? Feels a lot like that! To be honest, because I couldn't really care much about this whole scene, I wouldn't mind if it got replaced with a scene of the Doctor, Ruby, & Mel on an apocalyptic planet scavenging for metal, with Ruby asking the Doctor, "Doctor, this has been the X planet we've visited, what are we here for again?" That way, not only can we see more of what Sutekh's gift did to the Universe & having his line of the universe standing silent in death be true where it seems like there are no survivors, Ruby's line indicates they've been searching for a long time & it wasn't just a lucky planet on their first try, that they've been actively searching for metal.
"Cultural appropriation" It feels like the Doctor is saying the Osirans culturally appropriated Egypt but, correct me if I'm wrong, aren't they the gods the ancient Egyptians worshipped? According to the Doctor Who wiki, "The Osirans, ... were worshipped by many cultures across the universe, including on Earth in ancient Egypt." So, in that case wouldn't it be the Egyptians that culturally appropriated the Osirans? But even then it's not cultural appropriation. The Egyptians worship the Osirans as their gods, of course they're going to adapt to the ways of their gods. This line from the Doctor makes no sense at all. 4:51 Damn... Ruby, the Doctor said your mama was so ugly even a god got clueless on what to do. 4:58 I knew it from the moment I saw 2:51. Mel's high af. She was taking a few puffs when no one was looking. Kinda disappointed Sutekh didn't say, "Peekaboo" before "I see you". 5:26 I like how the 2 decided to take off their overwear... for some reason. Like, "Oh wait before we go out, I'mma leave my overwear here. Don't want to get it dirty" "Oh yeah, good call!" 6:09 Where tf did Mel get that black cloak from?!
Now, let's talk about Sutekh's defeat. It's... underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, Sutekh being eviscerated in the vortex is cool & death to death brings life does make sense but... it's just how it's done. Firstly, it feels as if it's done too fast. It was like what? 2-3 scenes ago since we last saw Sutekh & the Doctor? Secondly, Sutekh has been hyped throughout the whole season as someone even the Toymaker didn't dare challenge, the greatest monster the Doctor has ever faced that can kill anyone with a breath, a being where even the Doctor himself said there's nothing he can do. Yet, here he is being treated like a dog. His defeat feels a bit too easy. Thirdly, death to death. Again, this makes sense, but, why would simply bringing Sutekh to places where his dust of death had hit bring back life? Sure he's the god of death but one doesn't die just because they're in the same room as him. It's his dust of death that kills you. If simply bringing Sutekh to places where his dust of death claimed lives is all it takes, then shouldn't the victims in UNIT be revived? I mean the god of death is there, in a place filled with deaths, why didn't Kate & the others get revived? Is this simply because Sutekh is in the time vortex? Can a god not control his own power? I just wish we saw Sutekh outsmarting the Doctor because everything just went according to the Doctor's plan without a problem. I can't be the only one who, after the Toymaker claims he dare not face Sutekh, thought Sutekh is way smarter than the Toymaker, yet we don't really see it. While the way the gods have been defeated so far are kinda lame, it's not as bad as Sutekh's. With the Toymaker, they had to opt for a simple game that opted more for luck since going against the Toymaker in an actual fight or a more strategic game might have put the Doctor at a disadvantage. With Maestro, the Doctor had to figure out the right combination of notes to banish Maestro, which isn't an easy feat due to the tremendous number of possible combinations. But Sutekh? A leash. What the absolute hell. Also, how exactly did the Doctor know when to stop lmao? Like how did he know "Alright! Everyone's alive again! Time to get rid of Sutekh!"? I do wonder if the show is going to use this as a way to bring back a villain that was once dead. Like I don't mean Mrs Flood who potentially might be a villain, I mean like maybe a villain in Classic Who or a being never heard of before.
Yeah this episode wasnt that great to me even though I like Ncuit and Millie I think it could've been developed more and just wrapped up better here's hoping it can only go up from here
Once again Bonnie Langford shone throughout this episode for me over everyone else. I liked it when Ruby met her birth mother, it was really emotional and wholesome, but I wanted more to the mystery. This finale was such an anti-climax, and it breaks my heart to say this, but a lot of this series has felt kind of diluted in my opinion. Also, why did Morris have guns? The character is a literal child and he was positioned right in front of a soldier's head, that scene just took me out of it.
Bonnie was actually the only thing I was smiling about, throughout. She’s capable of a whole lot more. She was brilliant. Wouldn’t mind seeing her at the wheel of some kind of spin-off. I waited decades for her vindication, and we've been getting it, bit by bit since Power of The Doctor.
She was pretty good in the episode. The only thing was, I started to notice she was getting bored in the episode when she said 'I'm tired' in the memory Tardis and almost fell asleep 😂
we all told you 5 weeks ago the show is finito separate to this and moreover sutekh destroyed the universe. he is the most powerful ever villain would we rank him above daleks or cybermen or master or davros or even sontarans nah, but he is beyond iconic and he is THE most powerful. hold dat
Why exactly? I thought it was quite beautiful, even a simple ordinary human can be the most extraordinary for a moment in time. If you think thats stupid, I suggest you watch Classic Who, for you'd be getting a lot of that talk.
@@sorenfarley because the whole arc of the season was built around who Ruby’s mother was and the payoff was really disappointing, and nothing made sense, why was it snowing all the time (admittedly I might have missed the explanation going for a pee ) if sutekh destroyed every planet the dr went to surely he would have heard about it, and if he destroyed earth in the past how could he destroy earth in the future, I’ll have to give it another watch I guess damn my bladder
@@kevinjones3908 Well for one Ms. Flood said a storm is coming in and she's returning obviously, so maybe we're not quite done with the snow. It could also be that that moment in time was so powerful that it leaked into the Doctor's present, ie the snow. And Sutekh didn't destroy every planet in the future until he appeared in Unit HQ and revealed the Susan(s) as puppets. Time has had many explanations in DW, but currently it seems that every action you take sends you into a new timeline, so when they witnessed Sutekh at HQ, then the effects of his power across all time happened, and it couldn't have happened before. He destroyed Earth in the past and the future because the Doctor had landed on Earth in the past and the future when he was clinging on to the TARDIS and was able to make a Susan. As for the mother, I thought the mystery behind Susan was a bit more in my mind than Ruby's mother, so it kinda took up the season long mystery spot for me. But I think it's sweet. The pointing at the sign thing is a little dumb, and feels cheap, but otherwise I enjoyed it. Ruby and 15 have been fantastic on screen together, and I hope she pops up later on. Hope that answers some questions!
I think you're pretty much summed up the way I feel about it. A bit disappointed that after the build-up Ruby's origin turned out to be "normal". Right because anybody can make it snow if your mother is a scared teenage girl leaving you at a church on Christmas. I did like Ruby reuniting with her parents. Still trying to figure out how dragging Sutekh through the time corridor was any different than what tThe Doctor did in Pyramids of Mars. Then we have the end with Mrs Flood breaking the fourth wall while dressed like Mary Poppins doing a production of Frozen. Thanks RTD for lying when you said we would get all the answers. Anyway take care and looking forward to your next video and hoping you enjoy the next story you watch..
I enjoyed the series as a whole but hot damn part 2 was doo doo, too much nonsensical nonsense. like that was what the Toymaker was afraid of ...... the dog was overpowered by fcin rope and the whole reason of the mother pointing was laughably ridiculously dumb just.... SO MUCH MADE NO SENSE!!! what was the writer smoking??
Utterly pointless episode. Sutekh was the biggest threat the doctor had ever faced? (Yeah right) So why was the doctor able to defeat him in one episode? The whole explanation of the mystery of Ruby's mother... pointless. Mrs Flood standing on the rooftop like Mary Poppins.... laughable. And let's not forget the doctor crying. Again. Multiple times. The only good thing about this episode was being inside the memory TARDIS and getting little glimpses of just how good the show used to be. But even that was a double edge sword when you look at how bad it currently is.
I enjoy this final episode. I don’t know about everyone else but I was disappointed with Ruby mum just being ordinary because I was expecting something big out it but I just glad Ruby got her happy ending. I cannot believe he was on the Tardis all that time since I started watching Doctor Who since 2005. I don’t care what other people say. I thought Ncuti was good as The 15th Doctor and this series was good. I do think they need to step Ncuti Doctor up bit by showing his dark side a lot more not that I am say he didn’t in this series because he did but I want to see more of it and I want RTD to focus on The Doctor a bit more in the next series, not the companion.
Had pretty much the complete opposite reaction. As far as Ruby's mom goes, I watched the commentary for the episode afterwards and Russell t. Davies said in a lot of ways it was his answer to the Star wars sequel trilogy where in the second movie they say that Rey's parents are nobody and she's just a normal person able to use the force and do extraordinary things and how he hated it when they went and undid that in the third movie to make her palpatine's daughter and So he wanted to do the opposite with Ruby. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode, but I thought it was cool that they brought back Sutekh and I know you didn't care for the original episode when you watched it so I can understand the difference in opinion there too. Hopefully the next series continues to get better and is something that we can all enjoy together.
Yeah, can’t deny. Hated it. Just really unsatisfying, the answers literally make no sense. Ruby’s mum being nobody makes everything she did at the church seem so unnecessarily dramatic and funny. Wasn’t worth the cinema experience. The only reaction we got was the tea joke.
I'm sorry you feel that way. I personally love it. I always will. I've been watching it since I was a little girl in the 70s. I will always stay true, even though they've had a few rough bumps
I don't think life on Gallifrey was restored because it was the master who killed them all. Not sutekh. I think only people who sutekh directly killed came back to life? I don't know? I don't even know if I care anymore? 😅
@@kevinburke3573that's it, nothing else. I don’t know where people got that Gallifrey was back, especially when RTD was the one who, originally, never wanted it to be back

I did enjoy this episode personally and thought 15 was great. I am also so so happy that for the first time in nu who we got no daleks in a entire series no cameo, no teaser just one tiny mention and that it perfect. Now when they do appear it will feel special again! My only nitpick with this episode is that the reveal of Rubys mother it was hyped up massively but to be just a normal person i cant tell if i like it or dislike it. Im excited to see what mrs flood means by her ending message.
I liked first part , second part was just stupid, the reveals were silly and they ruined what could of been a very evil and action filled fight with sutekh Season 2 better have better fights with the gods since it looks like it's carrying on
Gosh. I have to stop watching your reactions. I loved this episode. As I said previously we are all entitled to our opinions but I feel like we are crossing into expecting SO much from our tv instead of just enjoying the ride. It’s been fun but I can’t watch someone who just doesn’t like the programme anymore. X
I thought this episode was great, first series usually suck because there’s no lore to build off, this is establishing lore and I think it was an amazing end to ncutis first series. People are so easily displeased nowadays bro😭
Huh, no lore, this might be a reboot but it’s still Doctor Who with 60 years of lore - which they relied on heavily in this episode. Plus RTD’s 2005 series 1 absolutely destroyed this new season in every aspect
i knew watching you reacting would be better then the episode... ^^ it takes a lot if the best line is "Dont make tea"... ok yeah the ending with them parting away(oh no, for one episode, christmas ) was ok too but the rest was just ... ahh stupid
Does anyone else feel Ruby is disrespectful to her foster mother, the way she constantly obsesses over her birth mother? To me, it cheapens the Ruby character a bit.
Yeah like she says in last weeks episode you’re not helping and goodbye a foster mothers duty in this case is also to help look for rubys actual mother but…. For me compared to this season RTD1 is better than RTD2 that’s all ENOUGH!!!
@@joesmith8600 doesn’t mean they were very good either but i get where you’re coming from and I respect that. I found myself wanting to go back while watching this latest season too.
@@joesmith8600 I didn't feel that Chibs gave me anything nearly as good as 73 Yards, Dot & Bubble, Boom or The Devil's Chord... I even thought Space Babies was fun. In my view, if any of those had appeared in any Chibnall series, they'd have been considered stand-out episodes.
His stories were grounded and he is the only to take the Doctor on an actual character journey that I actually liked. Hate him if you want, but he wasn't a bad writer and he had good arcs for his characters. It's ok if you disagree, don't really care.
Sometimes RTD is almost too good that for simple and unimaginative folk it just goes over their head. If it did those people need to watch again and see if they can do better.
I don’t think there’s anything simple or unimaginative about people who were disappointed by the ‘greatest villain the doctor has faced’ being defeated by some rope and a magic fucking glove… Literally looked like the Doctor was taking his reluctant and badly trained dog for a walk
Even as someone who doesn’t care for Sutekh, that whole rope thing was embarrassing to watch. I expect a lot more for someone who is the greatest foe the doctor had faced :)
"I wish I went to sleep instead."
The comedic timing was perfect.
😂😂
I BURST OUT LAUGHING IT WAS THE PERFECT MOMENT FOR IT 😭
"It's so dumb"
"It's so dumb it's brilliant!"
"NO! It's just dumb."
It felt like we were actively lied to about Ruby too, Maestro saying that theres a "secret song" in her and calling ruby a creature which then ultimately lead to her mum being regular? And the snow appearing is never explained, its just weird
The way Sutekh was hyped, he should of been a threat throughout the whole season like Azure and Swarm in the Flux 6-parter
I agree :)
I've often said that about RTD's finales not quite living up to the usually fantastic First Acts.
The reaction the 100s of cinema goers at my screening had at the end would shock The BBC, Bad Wolf & RTD to their core. Utter silence as we left & only negative reactions & expletives at the explanation for Ruby & the snow ❄️
The Atmosphere on leaving was that of a wake compared to the excitement at the interval. I'm still trying to comprehend that explanation for Ruby & the lack of explanation for the snow, a 15 year old girl wearing a hooded cloak & pointing at a street sign in front of no one in the vicinity in 2004 to name her child 🤯 Im still in shock and it's 3am
The whole pointing at a sign to name her was stupid.
Nah, she was pointing towards the popcorn stall. The cinema has to make some money in these difficult times.

You’re commentary is so brutal at times, its BRILLIANT 😂😂 one thing that really annoys me about modern who is they never have the balls to actually kill someone off. So many big dramatic ‘death’ moments that just get reversed.
Yeah it’s starting to piss me off now, a lot of the recurring new who stuff is starting to piss me off 😂

My cinema died laughing at that and I got annoyed bc they were so loud 😂
I asume ther is more to ruby but Russellset that up for like the end of this era simukare to bad Wolf.
This episode had so much potential to be better
One of the worst finales ever, no excuse, piss poor writing and the cartoon way they portrayed suetekh was embarrassing and insulting
A season without Daleks
Just wait for Christmas special 😂
It was just anticlimactic. It lacked punch. The past 4 RTD finale’s have been amazing and they really make you feel something whether that be fear, danger, sadness, loss, joy. They really made you feel something. This was just lacking that extra bit of oomph to make it work.
What was the drawn out thing with the spoon? I think it was just an excuse to introduce a character on another planet who died and then comes back.
2:33 That neck tie and coat and coat that Mel looks were belonged to the Sixth Doctor.
Yeah I know, but thanks for telling me :)
@@HamzaReactz Oh I forgot you watched a Sixth Doctor story.
Also liked that before she starts turning she's holding/leaning on the 7th Doctor's jumper
@@captainkirk4519So he's a nervous wreck? I wouldn't put my trust in him lol
Completely agree :)
So she can make it snow but she’s just an ordinary woman? Maestro said there was something wrong with Ruby so that didn’t add up. Is her father something not of this earth? How does Mrs Flood know the Doctor, even if she made it snow she was dust wheat snow in the future… I think the writers edited parts out that give explanation
After all that trouble and suspense, she's just a normal person, no, that's disappointing I thought it was gonna be the trickster and he was going to use ruby to dethrone sutekh, like the gift of life versus the god of death, but no she had the power of memories or something like that that's why she couldn't be seen, total bull but I did enjoy the beginning like you my friend, I was overall disappointed with this ending

So im thinking sutek was not actually the Big bad were waiting for and that ms.flood is (or she mighnt be susan )
I think flood is the god of stories- a neutral spectator
Honestly, S11E10 might have actually been better than this. Performances are great but it's always been the story, for me and it just wasn’t there. Which seems to be the curse of RTD: it's either really great or really bad, there's no in-between. I get the messaging with the mother but then why center the entire season around it then? Just feels like a wasted opportunity.
Right about now, I miss the Chibs😂 I predicted this would happen. Now people are going to start cursing Russell again, like they were doing towards the end of his first run.
I’m gonna be honest. I’m forcing myself to finish this series and I’m only here to support your reacts! Here’s hoping season 2 drastically improves

Hey, I have the same doctor who poster as you.
man, i`m disapointed too, i expected much more after first epic part. i am disapointed about almost everything in this episode, how easy they solved the end of universe, also the fact that ruby`s mom is absolutely no one after all this, and i dont think the "i love you" from end was necessary, i really dont wanted love drama for this season. also, whats with mister flood, is she the santa claus wife or something ?

@@HamzaReactz but let be fair. In Moffats era most mysteries were set up in his very first episode with Matt Smith but they didn’t get answered until Matt left so this is like that.

That was a shocker of a finale…
Textbook RTD finale - big build up and hype, high stakes - too high - so the resolution is rushed and kinda lame
People are slowly noticing that rtd is in fact a okay showrunner and a mid writter
I want just more adventures 😭

It was good enough that she would stay for her mom, after all she was looking for her the whole season
Should've been a 3 parter
Most lame, anticlimactic ending I have ever seen in my entire life. How did Sutekh go from blowing the universe to death with a bit of dust to getting beaten with a rope around his neck?? I didn’t like how they resolved Ruby’s mother either, I feel like it has to be a little more interesting than just “she was just a 15 year old who’s still chilling living a normal life” after all that build up. She should’ve been extremely easy to find in that case.
You know it's bad when Hamza doesn't end the video with "Can't wait to watch the next season of Doctor Who."
The Legend of Ruby Sunday was a fantastic episode & it did it's job of being a cliffhanger well.
1:33 I'm not gonna lie, I kinda thought the green in the TARDIS was a green screen for a sec
1:41 No no, Hamza.
Utopia when Captain Jack was clinging on to the TARDIS, Flatline when the TARDIS shrank, every crossover with other Doctors after Pyramid of Mars that showed the TARDIS (Shoutout to Sutekh for helping the Doctor stop the Time War in The Day of the Doctor), etc.)
"And I find that good." That line reminded me a lot of Saxon Master in Sound of the Drums when he said, "And so it came to pass that the human race fell, and the Earth was no more. And I looked down upon my new dominion as Master of all, and I thought it good."
"And I swear to you, with both the hearts of the last of the Time Lords, I will stop you!"
Ruby: "Why's he saying that when there's a chance his granddaughter is alive?"
Mel: "No idea. Probably just being a drama queen. Not to mention he also knows his best frenemy the Master is still alive, though now a gold tooth."
Ruby: "The who is a what now?"
"I'll tell you a secret, Sutes. This feeling.... that you have now... this doubt.... have you ever felt so alive?"
And after having this new feeling, Sutekh realises the beauty of life & becomes a good dog. The end. Yeah we never really see this being explored again. Well, the Doctor did end up being wrong on why Sutekh hasn't killed them yet.
2:32 Oh my gosh! It's the TARDIS from Tales of the TARDIS! Quick! Everyone go rewatch the episode 15th & Ruby are in to play "Where's Mel?"
"Ruby Roo! Ruby Roo!"
Scooby dooby doo!
2:48 "I learned math in school. Why do you sound so surprise?"
3:02 What do you think she did Ruby?
Except that this man, he said it's... it's... it's perverse, that's what he said, that it's so determined to kill that it can travel backwards... from child to mother."
Apparently, Sutekh's gift of death is now hereditary?
"Cultural appropriation"
It feels like the Doctor is saying the Osirans culturally appropriated Egypt but, correct me if I'm wrong, aren't they the gods the ancient Egyptians worshipped?
Don't want to get it dirty" "Oh yeah, good call!"
6:09 Where tf did Mel get that black cloak from?!
I’d like to see her in a UNIT spin off or just randomly keep appearing in DW episodes :)
She was pretty good in the episode. The only thing was, I started to notice she was getting bored in the episode when she said 'I'm tired' in the memory Tardis and almost fell asleep 😂
we all told you 5 weeks ago the show is finito
separate to this and moreover sutekh destroyed the universe. he is the most powerful ever villain
would we rank him above daleks or cybermen or master or davros or even sontarans nah, but he is beyond iconic and he is THE most powerful. hold dat
Nothing made sense in this episode, it was a huge let down after last weeks, and don’t get me started on Ruby’s mother reveal yawn yawn.
@@sorenfarley hopefully you are right but I won’t hold my breath
Sutekh is the greatest enemy he has faced. This episode proves what is capable of doing
I think mrs flood is Hecuba who is god of time
Queen of time sorry
I shoulda kept my 15 dollars. 😕.
I’d be bashing my head against the wall if I spent money for that 😂
This is why you don't go to the cinema to watch a TV show lol
@@darkwolf7740 no it was for Disney plus. That’s how much it costs me each month. I only got it for doctor who.
Best way to make up for it is just enjoy other things on there :)
I enjoyed the series as a whole but hot damn part 2 was doo doo, too much nonsensical nonsense. like that was what the Toymaker was afraid of ...... the dog was overpowered by fcin rope
and the whole reason of the mother pointing was laughably ridiculously dumb
just....
Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
.....the only thing to come out of this episode, life on Gallifrey was restored!
Where was that said?
I don't think life on Gallifrey was restored because it was the master who killed them all. Not sutekh. I think only people who sutekh directly killed came back to life? I don't know? I don't even know if I care anymore? 😅
@@kevinburke3573that's it, nothing else. I don’t know where people got that Gallifrey was back, especially when RTD was the one who, originally, never wanted it to be back
Imagine how much better it would have been if Ruby's mother was Rose Tyler.
No more Rose Tyler 😳
Yeah I don’t ever want to see Rose again. Great character, just don’t need to keep seeing her pop up :)
@@HamzaReactz yeah. we don't need old characters :) this is a reboot, as they say
(but actually no. they just changed the numbering😂)
@@HamzaReactzEach to their own but I'd love to see Rose come back. And if Ruby was brought in from the parallel universe that could have given a more satisfying plot device for the destruction of Sutekh.
Dr who is a show i hope goes on forever but that i think is a Show you watch for a few eras and then stop.
Like if you get bored you can jump off now..its what i might do
I'm really disappointed with this season finale episode.
I did really like this, but it was so anti climactic...
Over emotional domestic crying game
Weak weak sauce, what a let down Russell!
Just finished the episode. What a shite ending 😅
Agreed, complete trash, RTD you're better than this...
Wasn't the best, wasn't the worst. Not sure what all the drama is about these days.
I love this episode I've seen it twice now and I think it is a good episode.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
I liked first part , second part was just stupid, the reveals were silly and they ruined what could of been a very evil and action filled fight with sutekh
Season 2 better have better fights with the gods since it looks like it's carrying on
Gosh. I have to stop watching your reactions. I loved this episode. As I said previously we are all entitled to our opinions but I feel like we are crossing into expecting SO much from our tv instead of just enjoying the ride. It’s been fun but I can’t watch someone who just doesn’t like the programme anymore. X
What a mess.
I loved it maybe it's because I'm 55 and enjoyed the fact that Sutek came back. Final word LOVED IT ❤
Glad to hear you love it :)
Well did you know that we nearly had no Doctor Who at all.
So? It's still a viewer's right to complain when they don't like something.
Well did you know I don’t give a fuck :)
@@xzempty_8387Can't be doing that with this fandom. Praise be or be quiet!
Absolute rubbish
i knew watching you reacting would be better then the episode... ^^ it takes a lot if the best line is "Dont make tea"... ok yeah the ending with them parting away(oh no, for one episode, christmas ) was ok too but the rest was just ... ahh stupid
🙄
If a tea joke is the peak comedy Doctor Who can muster now, it doesn't give me much hope for the future 😬
In a subtle way, yes. Her foster Mom isn't treated in the best way by Ruby. Maybe things might change now that Ruby's found her real Mother.
I miss Chibs 🙃
ehhhhhhh nah lmao
@@gabe5918 after finale like this he definitely deserved one more series. S11 and s12 finales weren't worse.
RTD is a hack, plain and simple.
Completely disagree with what you’re saying.
@@HamzaReactz well that's alright then ;)
I don’t think there’s anything simple or unimaginative about people who were disappointed by the ‘greatest villain the doctor has faced’ being defeated by some rope and a magic fucking glove…
Literally looked like the Doctor was taking his reluctant and badly trained dog for a walk
Even as someone who doesn’t care for Sutekh, that whole rope thing was embarrassing to watch. I expect a lot more for someone who is the greatest foe the doctor had faced :)
